Abstract: Securing the confidential data transferred via wireless
network remains a challenging problem. It is paramount to ensure
that data are accessible only by the legitimate users rather than by the
attackers. One of the most serious threats to organization is jamming,
which disrupts the communication between any two pairs of nodes.
Therefore, designing an attack-defending scheme without any packet
loss in data transmission is an important challenge. In this paper,
Dependence based Malicious Route Defending DMRD Scheme has
been proposed in multi path routing environment to prevent jamming
attack. The key idea is to defend the malicious route to ensure
perspicuous transmission. This scheme develops a two layered
architecture and it operates in two different steps. In the first step,
possible routes are captured and their agent dependence values are
marked using triple agents. In the second step, the dependence values
are compared by performing comparator filtering to detect malicious
route as well as to identify a reliable route for secured data
transmission. By simulation studies, it is observed that the proposed
scheme significantly identifies malicious route by attaining lower
delay time and route discovery time; it also achieves higher
throughput.
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to propose a novel technique
to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) in a highly dynamic
environment. The MANET changes its topology dynamically as the
nodes are moved frequently. This will cause link failure between
mobile nodes. MANET cannot ensure reliability without delay. The
relay node is selected based on achieving QoS in previous
transmission. It considers one more factor Connection Existence
Period (CEP) to ensure reliability. CEP is to find out the period
during that connection exists between the nodes. The node with
highest CEP becomes a next relay node. The relay node is selected
dynamically to avoid frequent failure. The bandwidth of each link
changed dynamically based on service rate and request rate. This
paper proposes Active bandwidth setting up algorithm to guarantee
the QoS. The series of results obtained by using the Network
Simulator (NS-2) demonstrate the viability of our proposed
techniques.
Abstract: Second line antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimen is
used when patients fail their first line regimen. There are many
factors such as non-adherence, drug resistance as well as virological
and immunological failure that lead to second line highly active
antiretroviral therapy (HAART) regimen treatment failure. This study
was aimed at determining predictor factors to treatment failure with
second line HAART and analyzing median survival time.
An observational, retrospective study was conducted in Sungai
Buloh Hospital (HSB) to assess current status of HIV patients treated
with second line HAART regimen. Convenience sampling was used
and 104 patients were included based on the study’s inclusion and
exclusion criteria. Data was collected for six months i.e. from July
until December 2013. Data was then analysed using SPSS version 18.
Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses were used to measure
median survival times and predictor factors for treatment failure.
The study population consisted mainly of male subjects, aged 30-
45 years, who were heterosexual, and had HIV infection for less than
6 years. The most common second line HAART regimen given was
lopinavir/ritonavir (LPV/r)-based combination. Kaplan-Meier
analysis showed that patients on LPV/r demonstrated longer median
survival times than patients on indinavir/ritonavir (IDV/r) based
combination (p
Abstract: This paper describes a node pair selection scheme
in relay-aided multiple source multiple destination communication
system based on stable marriage problem. A general case is assumed
in which all of source, relay and destination nodes are equipped
with multiantenna and carry out multistream transmission. Based
on several metrics introduced from inter-node channel condition,
the preference order is determined about all source-relay and
relay-destination relations, and then the node pairs are determined
using Gale-Shapley algorithm. The computer simulations show
that the effectiveness of node pair selection is larger in multihop
communication. Some additional aspects which are different from
relay-less case are also investigated.
Abstract: We present a method for dehazing images. A dark
envelope image is derived with the bilateral minimum filter and a
bright envelope is derived with the bilateral maximum filter. The
ambient light and transmission of the scene are estimated from these
two envelope images. An image without haze is reconstructed from
the estimated ambient light and transmission.
Abstract: Various fairness models and criteria proposed by academia and industries for wired networks can be applied for ad hoc wireless network. The end-to-end fairness in an ad hoc wireless network is a challenging task compared to wired networks, which has not been addressed effectively. Most of the traffic in an ad hoc network are transport layer flows and thus the fairness of transport layer flows has attracted the interest of the researchers. The factors such as MAC protocol, routing protocol, the length of a route, buffer size, active queue management algorithm and the congestion control algorithms affects the fairness of transport layer flows. In this paper, we have considered the rate of data transmission, the queue management and packet scheduling technique. The ad hoc network is dynamic in nature due to various parameters such as transmission of control packets, multihop nature of forwarding packets, changes in source and destination nodes, changes in the routing path influences determining throughput and fairness among the concurrent flows. In addition, the effect of interaction between the protocol in the data link and transport layers has also plays a role in determining the rate of the data transmission. We maintain queue for each flow and the delay information of each flow is maintained accordingly. The pre-processing of flow is done up to the network layer only. The source and destination address information is used for separating the flow and the transport layer information is not used. This minimizes the delay in the network. Each flow is attached to a timer and is updated dynamically. Finite State Machine (FSM) is proposed for queue and transmission control mechanism. The performance of the proposed approach is evaluated in ns-2 simulation environment. The throughput and fairness based on mobility for different flows used as performance metrics. We have compared the performance of the proposed approach with ATP and the transport layer information is used. This minimizes the delay in the network. Abstract: Many studies have been conducted on DC transmission. Of power apparatus for DC transmission, high voltage direct current (HVDC) cable systems are being evaluated because of the increase in power demand and transmission distance. Therefore, dc insulation characteristics of liquid silicone rubber (LSR), which has various advantages such as short curing time and the ease of maintenance, were investigated to assess its performance as a HVDC insulation material for cable joints. The electrical performance of LSR added to nano-aluminum trihydrate (ATH) were confirmed by measurements of the breakdown strength and electrical conductivity. In addition, field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) was used as a means of confirmation of nanofiller dispersion state. The LSR nanocomposite was prepared by compounding LSR filled nano-sized ATH filler. The dc insulation properties of LSR added to nano-sized ATH fillers were found to be superior to those of the LSR without a filler.
Abstract: The data transmission between mobile hosts and base stations (BSs) in Mobile networks are often vulnerable to failure. So, efficient link connectivity, in terms of the services of both base stations and communication channels of the network, is required in wireless mobile networks to achieve highly reliable data transmission. In addition, it is observed that the number of blocked hosts is increased due to insufficient number of channels during heavy load in the network. Under such scenario, the channels are allocated accordingly to offer a reliable communication at any given time. Therefore, a reliability-based channel allocation model with acceptable system performance is proposed as a MOO problem in this paper. Two conflicting parameters known as Resource Reuse factor (RRF) and the number of blocked calls are optimized under reliability constraint in this problem. The solution to such MOO problem is obtained through NSGA-II (Non dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm). The effectiveness of the proposed model in this work is shown with a set of experimental results.
Abstract: Performance of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system can be improved by adding channel coding (error correction code) to detect and correct errors that occur during data transmission. One can use the convolution code. This paper present performance of OFDM using Space Time Block Codes (STBC) diversity technique use QAM modulation with code rate ½. The evaluation is done by analyzing the value of Bit Error Rate (BER) vs. Energy per Bit to Noise Power Spectral Density Ratio (Eb/No). This scheme is conducted 256 subcarrier transmits Rayleigh multipath channel in OFDM system. To achieve a BER of 10-3 is required 10dB SNR in SISO-OFDM scheme. For 2x2 MIMO-OFDM scheme requires 10 dB to achieve a BER of 10-3. For 4x4 MIMO-OFDM scheme requires 5 dB while adding convolution in a 4x4 MIMO-OFDM can improve performance up to 0 dB to achieve the same BER. This proves the existence of saving power by 3 dB of 4x4 MIMO-OFDM system without coding, power saving 7dB of 2x2 MIMO-OFDM and significant power savings from SISO-OFDM system
Abstract: This paper proposes a single relay selection scheme in
cooperative communication. Decode-and-forward scheme is
considered when a source node wants to cooperate with a single relay
for data transmission. To use the proposed single relay selection
scheme, the source node makes a little different pattern signal which is
not complex pattern and broadcasts it. The proposed scheme does not
require the channel state information between the source node and
candidates of the relay during the relay selection. Therefore, it is able
to be used in many fields.
Abstract: Hepatitis C virus infection is a public health threat in Egypt. To control infection, efforts should be spent to encourage healthy behavior. This study aimed to assess the level of behavioral development in order to create a positive environment for the adoption of the recommended behaviors. The study was conducted over one year from Jan. 2011 till Jan. 2012.Knowledge, attitude and behavior of 540 HCV patients and 102 of their contacts were assessed and the level of behavioral development was determined. The study revealed that the majority of patients and contacts knew that HCV infection is dangerous with perceived concern for early diagnosis and treatment. More than 75% knew the correct modes of transmission. The assessment showed positive attitudes towards the recommended practices with intention to adopt those practices. Strategies of creating opportunities to continue the recommended behaviors should be adopted together with the reinforcement of social support.
Abstract: Medical care is vital for our life, health and well-being. But the waste generated from medical activities can be hazardous, toxic and even lethal because of their high potential for diseases transmission. The hazardous and toxic parts of waste from healthcare establishments comprising infectious, medical and radioactive material as well as sharps constitute a grave risks to mankind and the environment, if these are not properly treated / disposed or are allowed to be mixed with other municipal waste. In Nigeria, practical information on this aspect is inadequate and research on the public health implications of poor management of medical wastes is few and limited in scope. Findings drawn from Literature particularly in the third world countries highlights financial problems, lack of awareness of risks involved in MWM, lack of appropriate legislation and lack of specialized MWM staff. The paper recommends how MWM practices can be improved in medical facilities.
Abstract: Hepatitis B and hepatitis C are among the most
significant hepatic infections all around the world that may lead to
hepatocellular carcinoma. This study is first time performed at the
blood transfussion centre of Omar hospital, Lahore. It aims to
determine the sero-prevalence of these diseases by screening the
apparently healthy blood donors who might be the carriers of HBV or
HCV and pose a high risk in the transmission. It also aims the
comparison between the sensitivity of two diagnostic tests;
chromatographic immunoassay – one step test device and Enzyme
Linked Immuno Sorbant Assay (ELISA). Blood serum of 855
apparently healthy blood donors was screened for Hepatitis B surface
antigen (HBsAg) and for anti HCV antibodies. SPSS version 12.0
and X2 (Chi-square) test were used for statistical analysis. The seroprevalence
of HCV was 8.07% by the device method and by ELISA
9.12% and that of HBV was 5.6% by the device and 6.43% by
ELISA. The unavailability of vaccination against HCV makes it more
prevalent. Comparing the two diagnostic methods, ELISA proved to
be more sensitive.
Abstract: In deregulated operating regime power system security is an issue that needs due thoughtfulness from researchers in the horizon of unbundling of generation and transmission. Electric power systems are exposed to various contingencies. Network contingencies often contribute to overloading of branches, violation of voltages and also leading to problems of security/stability. To maintain the security of the systems, it is desirable to estimate the effect of contingencies and pertinent control measurement can be taken on to improve the system security. This paper presents the application of particle swarm optimization algorithm to find the optimal location of multi type FACTS devices in a power system in order to eliminate or alleviate the line over loads. The optimizations are performed on the parameters, namely the location of the devices, their types, their settings and installation cost of FACTS devices for single and multiple contingencies. TCSC, SVC and UPFC are considered and modeled for steady state analysis. The selection of UPFC and TCSC suitable location uses the criteria on the basis of improved system security. The effectiveness of the proposed method is tested for IEEE 6 bus and IEEE 30 bus test systems.
Abstract: Image compression plays a vital role in today-s
communication. The limitation in allocated bandwidth leads to
slower communication. To exchange the rate of transmission in the
limited bandwidth the Image data must be compressed before
transmission. Basically there are two types of compressions, 1)
LOSSY compression and 2) LOSSLESS compression. Lossy
compression though gives more compression compared to lossless
compression; the accuracy in retrievation is less in case of lossy
compression as compared to lossless compression. JPEG, JPEG2000
image compression system follows huffman coding for image
compression. JPEG 2000 coding system use wavelet transform,
which decompose the image into different levels, where the
coefficient in each sub band are uncorrelated from coefficient of
other sub bands. Embedded Zero tree wavelet (EZW) coding exploits
the multi-resolution properties of the wavelet transform to give a
computationally simple algorithm with better performance compared
to existing wavelet transforms. For further improvement of
compression applications other coding methods were recently been
suggested. An ANN base approach is one such method. Artificial
Neural Network has been applied to many problems in image
processing and has demonstrated their superiority over classical
methods when dealing with noisy or incomplete data for image
compression applications. The performance analysis of different
images is proposed with an analysis of EZW coding system with
Error Backpropagation algorithm. The implementation and analysis
shows approximately 30% more accuracy in retrieved image
compare to the existing EZW coding system.
Abstract: Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is one of the techniques for high speed data rate communication with main consideration for 4G and 5G systems. In OFDM, there are several mapping schemes which provide a way of parallel transmission. In this paper, comparisons of mapping schemes used by some standards have been made and also has been discussed about the performance of the non-conventional modulation technique. The Comparisons of Bit Error Rate (BER) performances for conventional and non-conventional modulation schemes have been done using MATLAB software. Mentioned schemes used in OFDM system can be selected on the basis of the requirement of power or spectrum efficiency and BER analysis.
Abstract: Nowadays, financial and economic crises are growing
more and reach more countries and sectors. These events have, as a
result, a considerable impact on the activities of the firms which think
unstable and in danger.
But besides this heavy uncertainty which weighs on the different
firms, the family firm, object of our research, is not only confronted
with these external difficulties but also with an internal challenge and
of size: that of transmission. Indeed, the transmission of an
organization from one generation to another can succeed as it can
fail; leaving considerable damage.
Our research registers as part of these problems since we tried to
understand relation between the behavior of two main actors of the
process of succession, predecessor and successor; and the success of
transmission.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the
influence of a number of variables on the conditional mean and
conditional variance of credit spread changes. The empirical analysis
in this paper is conducted within the context of bivariate GARCH-in-
Mean models, using the so-called BEKK parameterization. We show
that credit spread changes are determined by interest-rate and equityreturn
variables, which is in line with theory as provided by the
structural models of default. We also identify the credit spread
change volatility as an important determinant of credit spread
changes, and provide evidence on the transmission of volatility
between the variables under study.
Abstract: With the fast progression of data exchange in electronic way, information security is becoming more important in data storage and transmission. Because of widely using images in industrial process, it is important to protect the confidential image data from unauthorized access. In this paper, we analyzed current image encryption algorithms and compression is added for two of them (Mirror-like image encryption and Visual Cryptography). Implementations of these two algorithms have been realized for experimental purposes. The results of analysis are given in this paper.

The model is simulated using MATLAB in an effort to investigate the effects of multiple loading, multipath, and those as a result of load mismatching. The channel transfer function is obtained and investigated using different cable lengths, and different number of bridge taps under given loading conditions.
