Abstract: In this modern era of automation, most of the academic
exams and competitive exams are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ).
The responses of these MCQ based exams are recorded in the
Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheet. Evaluation of the OMR sheet
requires separate specialized machines for scanning and marking.
The sheets used by these machines are special and costs more than a
normal sheet. Available process is non-economical and dependent on
paper thickness, scanning quality, paper orientation, special hardware
and customized software. This study tries to tackle the problem of
evaluating the OMR sheet without any special hardware and making
the whole process economical. We propose an image processing
based algorithm which can be used to read and evaluate the scanned
OMR sheets with no special hardware required. It will eliminate the
use of special OMR sheet. Responses recorded in normal sheet is
enough for evaluation. The proposed system takes care of color,
brightness, rotation, little imperfections in the OMR sheet images.
Abstract: Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation exercises are a series of stretching techniques that are commonly used in rehabilitation and exercise therapy. Assessment of these exercises for true maneuvering requires extensive experience in this field and could not be down with patients themselves. In this paper, we developed software that uses Microsoft Kinect sensor, a spherical color marker, and real-time image processing methods to evaluate patient’s performance in generating true patterns of movements. The software also provides the patient with a visual feedback by showing his/her avatar in a Virtual Reality environment along with the correct path of moving hand, wrist and marker. Primary results during PNF exercise therapy of a patient in a room environment shows the ability of the system to identify any deviation of maneuvering path and direction of the hand from the one that has been performed by an expert physician.
Abstract: In this paper, we validate crater detection in moon surface image using FLDA. This proposal assumes that it is applied to SLIM (Smart Lander for Investigating Moon) project aiming at the pin-point landing to the moon surface. The point where the lander should land is judged by the position relations of the craters obtained via camera, so the real-time image processing becomes important element. Besides, in the SLIM project, 400kg-class lander is assumed, therefore, high-performance computers for image processing cannot be equipped. We are studying various crater detection methods such as Haar-Like features, LBP, and PCA. And we think these methods are appropriate to the project, however, to identify the unlearned images obtained by actual is insufficient. In this paper, we examine the crater detection using FLDA, and compare with the conventional methods.
Abstract: This paper presents a real-time defect detection
algorithm for high-speed steel bar in coil. Because the target speed is
very high, proposed algorithm should process quickly the large
volumes of image for real-time processing. Therefore, defect detection
algorithm should satisfy two conflicting requirements of reducing the
processing time and improving the efficiency of defect detection. To
enhance performance of detection, edge preserving method is
suggested for noise reduction of target image. Finally, experiment
results show that the proposed algorithm guarantees the condition of
the real-time processing and accuracy of detection.
Abstract: The development of many measurement and inspection systems of products based on real-time image processing can not be carried out totally in a laboratory due to the size or the temperature of the manufactured products. Those systems must be developed in successive phases. Firstly, the system is installed in the production line with only an operational service to acquire images of the products and other complementary signals. Next, a recording service of the image and signals must be developed and integrated in the system. Only after a large set of images of products is available, the development of the real-time image processing algorithms for measurement or inspection of the products can be accomplished under realistic conditions. Finally, the recording service is turned off or eliminated and the system operates only with the real-time services for the acquisition and processing of the images. This article presents a systematic performance evaluation of the image compression algorithms currently available to implement a real-time recording service. The results allow establishing a trade off between the reduction or compression of the image size and the CPU time required to get that compression level.
