Abstract: Micro power sources are required to be used in autonomous microelectromechanical system (MEMS). In this paper,
we designed and fabricated a three dimensional (3D) MEMS supercapacitor, which is consisting of conformal silicon
dioxide/titanium/polypyrrole (PPy) layers on silicon substrate. At first, ''through-structure'' was fabricated on the silicon substrate by high-aspect-ratio deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) method, which enlarges the available surface area significantly. Then the SiO2/Ti/PPy layers grew sequentially on the ³through-structure´. Finally, the supercapacitor was investigated by electrochemical methods.
Abstract: The paper shows how the CASMAS modeling language,
and its associated pervasive computing architecture, can be
used to facilitate continuity of care by providing members of patientcentered
communities of care with a support to cooperation and
knowledge sharing through the usage of electronic documents and
digital devices. We consider a scenario of clearly fragmented care to
show how proper mechanisms can be defined to facilitate a better
integration of practices and information across heterogeneous care
networks. The scenario is declined in terms of architectural components
and cooperation-oriented mechanisms that make the support
reactive to the evolution of the context where these communities
operate.
Abstract: New regulations and standards for noise emission increasingly compel the automotive firms to make some improvements about decreasing the engine noise. Nowadays, the perforated reactive mufflers which have an effective damping capability are specifically used for this purpose. New designs should be analyzed with respect to both acoustics and back pressure. In this study, a reactive perforated muffler is investigated numerically and experimentally. For an acoustical analysis, the transmission loss which is independent of sound source of the present cross flow, the perforated muffler was analyzed by COMSOL. To be able to validate the numerical results, transmission loss was measured experimentally. Back pressure was obtained based on the flow field analysis and was also compared with experimental results. Numerical results have an approximate error of 20% compared to experimental results.
Abstract: Improving the reactive power and voltage profile of a
distribution substation is investigated in this paper. The purpose is to
properly determination of the shunt capacitors on/off status and
suitable tap changer (TC) position of a substation transformer. In
addition, the limitation of secondary bus voltage, the maximum
allowable number of switching operation in a day for on load tap
changer and on/off status of capacitors are taken into account. To
achieve these goals, an artificial neural network (ANN) is designed to
provide preliminary scheduling. Input of ANN is active and reactive
powers of transformer and its primary and secondary bus voltages.
The output of ANN is capacitors on/off status and TC position. The
preliminary schedule is further refined by fuzzy dynamic
programming in order to reach the final schedule. The operation of
proposed method in Q/V improving is compared with the results
obtained by operator operation in a distribution substation.
Abstract: This paper proposes a direct power control for
doubly-fed induction machine for variable speed wind power
generation. It provides decoupled regulation of the primary side
active and reactive power and it is suitable for both electric energy
generation and drive applications. In order to control the power
flowing between the stator of the DFIG and the network, a decoupled
control of active and reactive power is synthesized using PI
controllers.The obtained simulation results show the feasibility
and the effectiveness of the suggested method
Abstract: We attempted investigate a boat model, based on the
conversion of energy of surface wave into a sequence of
unidirectional pulses of jet spurts, in other words - model of the boat,
which is thrusting by the waves field on water surface. These pulses
are forming some average reactive stream from the output nozzle on
the stern of boat. The suggested model provides the conversion of its
oscillatory motions (both pitching and rolling) into a jet flow. This
becomes possible due to special construction of the boat and due to
several details, sensitive to the local wave field. The boat model
presents the uniflow jet engine without slow conversions of
mechanical energy into intermediate forms and without any external
sources of energy (besides surface waves). Motion of boat is
characterized by fast jerks and average onward velocity, which
exceeds the velocities of liquid particles in the wave.
Abstract: In this paper, a novel method using Bees Algorithm is proposed to determine the optimal allocation of FACTS devices for maximizing the Available Transfer Capability (ATC) of power transactions between source and sink areas in the deregulated power system. The algorithm simultaneously searches the FACTS location, FACTS parameters and FACTS types. Two types of FACTS are simulated in this study namely Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) and Static Var Compensator (SVC). A Repeated Power Flow with FACTS devices including ATC is used to evaluate the feasible ATC value within real and reactive power generation limits, line thermal limits, voltage limits and FACTS operation limits. An IEEE30 bus system is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm as an optimization tool to enhance ATC. A Genetic Algorithm technique is used for validation purposes. The results clearly indicate that the introduction of FACTS devices in a right combination of location and parameters could enhance ATC and Bees Algorithm can be efficiently used for this kind of nonlinear integer optimization.
Abstract: This paper describes reactive neural control used to
generate phototaxis and obstacle avoidance behavior of walking
machines. It utilizes discrete-time neurodynamics and consists of
two main neural modules: neural preprocessing and modular neural
control. The neural preprocessing network acts as a sensory fusion
unit. It filters sensory noise and shapes sensory data to drive the
corresponding reactive behavior. On the other hand, modular neural
control based on a central pattern generator is applied for locomotion
of walking machines. It coordinates leg movements and can generate
omnidirectional walking. As a result, through a sensorimotor loop this
reactive neural controller enables the machines to explore a dynamic
environment by avoiding obstacles, turn toward a light source, and
then stop near to it.
Abstract: The Wind Turbine Modeling in Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) using Doubly-Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) PI Controller based design is presented. To study about the variable wind speed. The PI controller performs responding to the dynamic performance. The objective is to study the characteristic of wind turbine and finding the optimum wind speed suitable for wind turbine performance. This system will allow the specification setting (2.5MW). The output active power also corresponding same the input is given. And the reactive power produced by the wind turbine is regulated at 0 Mvar. Variable wind speed is optimum for drive train performance at 12.5 m/s (at maximum power coefficient point) from the simulation of DFIG by Simulink is described.
Abstract: Manufacturing companies are facing a broad variety
of challenges caused by a dynamic production environment. To
succeed in such an environment, it is crucial to minimize the loss of
time required to trigger the adaptation process of a company-s
production structures. This paper presents an approach for the
continuous monitoring of production structures by neurologic
principles. It enhances classical monitoring concepts, which are
principally focused on reactive strategies, and enables companies to
act proactively. Thereby, strategic aspects regarding the
harmonization of certain life cycles are integrated into the decision
making process for triggering the reconfiguration process of the
production structure.
Abstract: In this work a visual and reactive contour following
behaviour is learned by reinforcement. With artificial vision the
environment is perceived in 3D, and it is possible to avoid obstacles
that are invisible to other sensors that are more common in mobile
robotics. Reinforcement learning reduces the need for intervention in
behaviour design, and simplifies its adjustment to the environment,
the robot and the task. In order to facilitate its generalisation to other
behaviours and to reduce the role of the designer, we propose a
regular image-based codification of states. Even though this is much
more difficult, our implementation converges and is robust. Results
are presented with a Pioneer 2 AT on a Gazebo 3D simulator.
Abstract: Electricity market activities and a growing demand for electricity have led to heavily stressed power systems. This requires operation of the networks closer to their stability limits. Power system operation is affected by stability related problems, leading to unpredictable system behavior. Voltage stability refers to the ability of a power system to sustain appropriate voltage levels through large and small disturbances. Steady-state voltage stability is concerned with limits on the existence of steady-state operating points for the network. FACTS devices can be utilized to increase the transmission capacity, the stability margin and dynamic behavior or serve to ensure improved power quality. Their main capabilities are reactive power compensation, voltage control and power flow control. Among the FACTS controllers, Static Var Compensator (SVC) provides fast acting dynamic reactive compensation for voltage support during contingency events. In this paper, voltage stability assessment with appropriate representations of tap-changer transformers and SVC is investigated. Integrating both of these devices is the main topic of this paper. Effect of the presence of tap-changing transformers on static VAR compensator controller parameters and ratings necessary to stabilize load voltages at certain values are highlighted. The interrelation between transformer off nominal tap ratios and the SVC controller gains and droop slopes and the SVC rating are found. P-V curves are constructed to calculate loadability margins.
Abstract: Trust and Energy consumption is the most challenging
issue in routing protocol design for Mobile ad hoc networks
(MANETs), since mobile nodes are battery powered and nodes
behaviour are unpredictable. Furthermore replacing and recharging
batteries and making nodes co-operative is often impossible in
critical environments like military applications. In this paper, we
propose a trust based energy aware routing model in MANET.
During route discovery, node with more trust and maximum energy
capacity is selected as a router based on a parameter called
'Reliability'. Route request from the source is accepted by a node
only if its reliability is high. Otherwise, the route request is
discarded. This approach forms a reliable route from source to
destination thus increasing network life time, improving energy
utilization and decreasing number of packet loss during transmission.
Abstract: Due to memory leaks, often-valuable system memory
gets wasted and denied for other processes thereby affecting the
computational performance. If an application-s memory usage
exceeds virtual memory size, it can leads to system crash. Current
memory leak detection techniques for clusters are reactive and
display the memory leak information after the execution of the
process (they detect memory leak only after it occur).
This paper presents a Dynamic Memory Monitoring Agent
(DMMA) technique. DMMA framework is a dynamic memory leak
detection, that detects the memory leak while application is in
execution phase, when memory leak in any process in the cluster is
identified by DMMA it gives information to the end users to enable
them to take corrective actions and also DMMA submit the affected
process to healthy node in the system. Thus provides reliable service
to the user. DMMA maintains information about memory
consumption of executing processes and based on this information
and critical states, DMMA can improve reliability and
efficaciousness of cluster computing.
Abstract: In this paper present a sensorless maximum wind power extraction for variable speed constant frequency (VSCF) wind power generation systems with a doubly-fed induction generators (DFIG), to ensure stability and to impose the ideal feedback control solution despite of model uncertainties , using the principles of an active and reactive power controller (DPC) a robust sliding mode power control has been proposed to guarantees fast response times and precise control actions for control the active and reactive power independently. The simulation results in MATLAB/Simulink platform confirmed the good dynamic performance of power control approach for DFIGbased variable speed wind turbines.
Abstract: Hypersonic flows around spatial vehicles during their
reentry phase in planetary atmospheres are characterized by intense
aerothermal phenomena. The aim of this work is to analyze high
temperature flows around an axisymmetric blunt body taking into
account chemical and vibrational non-equilibrium for air mixture
species. For this purpose, a finite volume methodology is employed
to determine the supersonic flow parameters around the axisymmetric
blunt body, especially at the stagnation point and along the wall of
spacecraft for several altitudes. This allows the capture shock wave
before a blunt body placed in supersonic free stream. The numerical
technique uses the Flux Vector Splitting method of Van Leer. Here,
adequate time stepping parameter, along with CFL coefficient and
mesh size level are selected to ensure numerical convergence, sought
with an order of 10-8
Abstract: The polyfunctional and highly reactive bio-polymer,
the chitosan was first regioselectively converted into dialkylated
chitosan using dimsyl anionic solution(NaH in DMSO) and
bromodecane after protecting amino groups by phthalic anhydride.
The dibenzo-18-crown-6-ether, on the other hand, was converted into
its carbonyl derivatives via Duff reaction prior to incorporate into
chitosan by Schiff base formation. Thus formed diformylated
dibenzo-18-crown-6-ether was condensed with lipophilic chitosan to
prepare the novel solvent extraction reagent. The products were
characterized mainly by IR and 1H-NMR. Hence, the multidentate
crown ether-embedded polyfunctional bio-material was tested for
extraction of Pd(II) and Pt(IV) in aqueous solution.
Abstract: The proof of concept experiments were conducted to
determine the feasibility of using small amounts of Dissolved
Sulphur (DS) from the gaseous phase to precipitate platinum ions in
chloride media. Two sets of precipitation experiments were
performed in which the source of sulphur atoms was either a
thiosulphate solution (Na2S2O3) or a sulphur dioxide gas (SO2). In
liquid-liquid (L-L) system, complete precipitation of Pt was achieved
at small dosages of Na2S2O3 (0.01 – 1.0 M) in a time interval of 3-5
minutes. On the basis of this result, gas absorption tests were carried
out mainly to achieve sulphur solubility equivalent to 0.018 M. The
idea that huge amounts of precious metals could be recovered
selectively from their dilute solutions by utilizing the waste SO2
streams at low pressure seemed attractive from the economic and
environmental point of views. Therefore, mass transfer characteristics
of SO2 gas associated with reactive absorption across the gas-liquid
(G-L) interface were evaluated under different conditions of pressure
(0.5 – 2 bar), solution temperature ranges from 20 – 50 oC and acid
strength (1 – 4 M, HCl). This paper concludes with information about
selective precipitation of Pt in the presence of cations (Fe2+, Co2+,
and Cr3+) in a CSTR and recommendation to scale up laboratory data
to industrial pilot scale operations.
Abstract: This is a study on numerical simulation of the convection-diffusion transport of a chemical species in steady flow through a small-diameter tube, which is lined with a very thin layer made up of retentive and absorptive materials. The species may be subject to a first-order kinetic reversible phase exchange with the wall material and irreversible absorption into the tube wall. Owing to the velocity shear across the tube section, the chemical species may spread out axially along the tube at a rate much larger than that given by the molecular diffusion; this process is known as dispersion. While the long-time dispersion behavior, well described by the Taylor model, has been extensively studied in the literature, the early development of the dispersion process is by contrast much less investigated. By early development, that means a span of time, after the release of the chemical into the flow, that is shorter than or comparable to the diffusion time scale across the tube section. To understand the early development of the dispersion, the governing equations along with the reactive boundary conditions are solved numerically using the Flux Corrected Transport Algorithm (FCTA). The computation has enabled us to investigate the combined effects on the early development of the dispersion coefficient due to the reversible and irreversible wall reactions. One of the results is shown that the dispersion coefficient may approach its steady-state limit in a short time under the following conditions: (i) a high value of Damkohler number (say Da ≥ 10); (ii) a small but non-zero value of absorption rate (say Γ* ≤ 0.5).
Abstract: Reactive powder concretes (RPC) are characterized by
particle diameter not exceeding 600 μm and having very high
compressive and tensile strengths. This paper describes a new
generation of micro concrete, which has an initial, as well as a final,
high physicomechanical performance. To achieve this, we replaced
the Portland cement (15% by weight) by materials rich in Silica (Slag
and Dune Sand).
The results obtained from tests carried out on RPC show that
compressive and tensile strengths increase when adding the additions,
thus improving the compactness of mixtures via filler and pozzolanic
effect.
With a reduction of the aggregate phase in the RPC and the
abundance of dune sand (south Algeria) and slag (industrial byproduct
of blast furnace), the use of the RPC will allow Algeria to
fulfil economical as well as ecological requirements.
