Abstract: This paper presents a new sufficient condition for the
existence, uniqueness and global asymptotic stability of the equilibrium point for Cohen-Grossberg neural networks with multiple time delays. The results establish a relationship between the network parameters
of the neural system independently of the delay parameters. The results are also compared with the previously reported results in
the literature.
Abstract: This paper describes a novel monitoring scheme to
minimize total active power in digital circuits depend on the demand
frequency, by adjusting automatically both supply voltage and
threshold voltages based on circuit operating conditions such as
temperature, process variations, and desirable frequency. The delay
monitoring results, will be control and apply so as to be maintained at
the minimum value at which the chip is able to operate for a given
clock frequency. Design details of power monitor are examined using
simulation framework in 32nm BTPM model CMOS process.
Experimental results show the overhead of proposed circuit in terms
of its power consumption is about 40 μW for 32nm technology;
moreover the results show that our proposed circuit design is not far
sensitive to the temperature variations and also process variations.
Besides, uses the simple blocks which offer good sensitivity, high
speed, the continuously feedback loop. This design provides up to
40% reduction in power consumption in active mode.
Abstract: This paper is devoted to a delayed periodic predatorprey system with non-monotonic numerical response on time scales. With the help of a continuation theorem based on coincidence degree theory, we establish easily verifiable criteria for the existence of multiple periodic solutions. As corollaries, some applications are listed. In particular, our results improve and generalize some known ones.
Abstract: In this paper, some new nonlinear generalized
Gronwall-Bellman-Type integral inequalities with mixed time delays
are established. These inequalities can be used as handy tools
to research stability problems of delayed differential and integral
dynamic systems. As applications, based on these new established
inequalities, some p-stable results of a integro-differential equation
are also given. Two numerical examples are presented to illustrate
the validity of the main results.
Abstract: Real options theory suggests that managerial flexibility embedded within irreversible investments can account for a significant value in project valuation. Although the argument has become the dominant focus of capital investment theory over decades, yet recent survey literature in capital budgeting indicates that corporate practitioners still do not explicitly apply real options in investment decisions. In this paper, we explore how real options decision criteria can be transformed into equivalent capital budgeting criteria under the consideration of uncertainty, assuming that underlying stochastic process follows a geometric Brownian motion (GBM), a mixed diffusion-jump (MX), or a mean-reverting process (MR). These equivalent valuation techniques can be readily decomposed into conventional investment rules and “option impacts", the latter of which describe the impacts on optimal investment rules with the option value considered. Based on numerical analysis and Monte Carlo simulation, three major findings are derived. First, it is shown that real options could be successfully integrated into the mindset of conventional capital budgeting. Second, the inclusion of option impacts tends to delay investment. It is indicated that the delay effect is the most significant under a GBM process and the least significant under a MR process. Third, it is optimal to adopt the new capital budgeting criteria in investment decision-making and adopting a suboptimal investment rule without considering real options could lead to a substantial loss in value.
Abstract: In this paper the authors propose and verify an approach to control heat flow in machine tool components. Thermal deformations are a main aspect that affects the accuracy of machining. Due to goals of energy efficiency, thermal basic loads should be reduced. This leads to inhomogeneous and time variant temperature profiles. To counteract these negative consequences, material with high melting enthalpy is used as a method for thermal stabilization. The increased thermal capacity slows down the transient thermal behavior. To account for the delayed thermal equilibrium, a control mechanism for thermal flow is introduced. By varying a gap in a heat flow path the thermal resistance of an assembly can be controlled. This mechanism is evaluated in two experimental setups. First to validate the ability to control the thermal resistance and second to prove the possibility of a self-sufficient option based on the selfsensing abilities of thermal shape memory alloys.
Abstract: Here, a new idea to speed up the operation of
complex valued time delay neural networks is presented. The whole
data are collected together in a long vector and then tested as a one
input pattern. The proposed fast complex valued time delay neural
networks uses cross correlation in the frequency domain between the
tested data and the input weights of neural networks. It is proved
mathematically that the number of computation steps required for
the presented fast complex valued time delay neural networks is less
than that needed by classical time delay neural networks. Simulation
results using MATLAB confirm the theoretical computations.
Abstract: In this paper, a delayed predator-prey system with Hassell-Varley-Holling type functional response is studied. A sufficient criterion for the permanence of the system is presented, and further some sufficient conditions for the global attractivity and exponential stability of the system are established. And an example is to show the feasibility of the results by simulation.
Abstract: The paper compares different channel models used for
modeling Broadband Power-Line Communication (BPLC) system.
The models compared are Zimmermann and Dostert, Philipps,
Anatory et al and Anatory et al generalized Transmission Line (TL)
model. The validity of each model was compared in time domain
with ATP-EMTP software which uses transmission line approach. It
is found that for a power-line network with minimum number of
branches all the models give similar signal/pulse time responses
compared with ATP-EMTP software; however, Zimmermann and
Dostert model indicates the same amplitude but different time delay.
It is observed that when the numbers of branches are increased only
generalized TL theory approach results are comparable with ATPEMTP
results. Also the Multi-Carrier Spread Spectrum (MC-SS)
system was applied to check the implication of such behavior on the
modulation schemes. It is observed that using Philipps on the
underground cable can predict the performance up to 25dB better
than other channel models which can misread the actual performance
of the system. Also modified Zimmermann and Dostert under
multipath can predict a better performance of about 5dB better than
the actual predicted by Generalized TL theory. It is therefore
suggested for a realistic BPLC system design and analyses the model
based on generalized TL theory be used.
Abstract: This paper presents a Particle Swarm Optimization
(PSO) method for determining the optimal parameters of a first-order
controller for TCP/AQM system. The model TCP/AQM is described
by a second-order system with time delay. First, the analytical
approach, based on the D-decomposition method and Lemma of
Kharitonov, is used to determine the stabilizing regions of a firstorder
controller. Second, the optimal parameters of the controller are
obtained by the PSO algorithm. Finally, the proposed method is
implemented in the Network Simulator NS-2 and compared with the
PI controller.
Abstract: This paper is concerned with the delay-distributiondependent
stability criteria for bidirectional associative memory
(BAM) neural networks with time-varying delays. Based on the
Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and stochastic analysis approach,
a delay-probability-distribution-dependent sufficient condition is derived
to achieve the globally asymptotically mean square stable of
the considered BAM neural networks. The criteria are formulated in
terms of a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which can be
checked efficiently by use of some standard numerical packages. Finally,
a numerical example and its simulation is given to demonstrate
the usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed results.
Abstract: In this paper, based on the estimation of the Cauchy matrix of linear impulsive differential equations, by using Banach fixed point theorem and Gronwall-Bellman-s inequality, some sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence and exponential stability of almost periodic solution for Cohen-Grossberg shunting inhibitory cellular neural networks (SICNNs) with continuously distributed delays and impulses. An example is given to illustrate the main results.
Abstract: Airport capacity has always been perceived in the
traditional sense as the number of aircraft operations during a
specified time corresponding to a tolerable level of average delay and
it mostly depends on the airside characteristics, on the fleet mix
variability and on the ATM. The adoption of the Directive
2002/30/EC in the EU countries drives the stakeholders to conceive
airport capacity in a different way though. Airport capacity in this
sense is fundamentally driven by environmental criteria, and since
acoustical externalities represent the most important factors, those are
the ones that could pose a serious threat to the growth of airports and
to aviation market itself in the short-medium term. The importance of
the regional airports in the deregulated market grew fast during the
last decade since they represent spokes for network carriers and a
preferential destination for low-fares carriers. Not only regional
airports have witnessed a fast and unexpected growth in traffic but
also a fast growth in the complaints for the nuisance by the people
living near those airports. In this paper the results of a study
conducted in cooperation with the airport of Bologna G. Marconi are
presented in order to investigate airport acoustical capacity as a defacto
constraint of airport growth.
Abstract: Bluetooth is a personal wireless communication
technology and is being applied in many scenarios. It is an emerging
standard for short range, low cost, low power wireless access
technology. Current existing MAC (Medium Access Control)
scheduling schemes only provide best-effort service for all masterslave
connections. It is very challenging to provide QoS (Quality of
Service) support for different connections due to the feature of
Master Driven TDD (Time Division Duplex). However, there is no
solution available to support both delay and bandwidth guarantees
required by real time applications. This paper addresses the issue of
how to enhance QoS support in a Bluetooth piconet. The Bluetooth
specification proposes a Round Robin scheduler as possible solution
for scheduling the transmissions in a Bluetooth Piconet. We propose
an algorithm which will reduce the bandwidth waste and enhance the
efficiency of network. We define token counters to estimate traffic of
real-time slaves. To increase bandwidth utilization, a back-off
mechanism is then presented for best-effort slaves to decrease the
frequency of polling idle slaves. Simulation results demonstrate that
our scheme achieves better performance over the Round Robin
scheduling.
Abstract: Wireless ad hoc nodes are freely and dynamically
self-organize in communicating with others. Each node can act as
host or router. However it actually depends on the capability of
nodes in terms of its current power level, signal strength, number
of hops, routing protocol, interference and others. In this research,
a study was conducted to observe the effect of hops count over
different network topologies that contribute to TCP Congestion
Control performance degradation. To achieve this objective, a
simulation using NS-2 with different topologies have been
evaluated. The comparative analysis has been discussed based on
standard observation metrics: throughput, delay and packet loss
ratio. As a result, there is a relationship between types of topology
and hops counts towards the performance of ad hoc network. In
future, the extension study will be carried out to investigate the
effect of different error rate and background traffic over same
topologies.
Abstract: Delayed wound healing in diabetes is primarily
associated with hyperglycemia, over-expression of inflammatory
marker, oxidative stress and delayed collagen synthesis. This
unmanaged wound is producing high economic burden on the
society. Thus research is required to develop new and effective
treatment strategies to deal with this emerging issue. Our present
study incorporates the evaluation of wound healing effects of 50%
ethanol extract of Ocimum sanctum (OSE) in streptozotocin
(45mg/kg)-induced diabetic rats with concurrent wound ulcer. The

Abstract: In this paper we present two novel 1-bit full adder
cells in dynamic logic style. NP-CMOS (Zipper) and Multi-Output
structures are used to design the adder blocks. Characteristic of
dynamic logic leads to higher speeds than the other standard static
full adder cells. Using HSpice and 0.18┬Ám CMOS technology
exhibits a significant decrease in the cell delay which can result in a
considerable reduction in the power-delay product (PDP). The PDP
of Multi-Output design at 1.8v power supply is around 0.15 femto
joule that is 5% lower than conventional dynamic full adder cell and
at least 21% lower than other static full adders.
Abstract: This paper presents the review of past studies
concerning mathematical models for rescheduling passenger railway
services, as part of delay management in the occurrence of railway
disruption. Many past mathematical models highlighted were aimed
at minimizing the service delays experienced by passengers during
service disruptions. Integer programming (IP) and mixed-integer
programming (MIP) models are critically discussed, focusing on the
model approach, decision variables, sets and parameters. Some of
them have been tested on real-life data of railway companies
worldwide, while a few have been validated on fictive data. Based
on selected literatures on train rescheduling, this paper is able to
assist researchers in the model formulation by providing
comprehensive analyses towards the model building. These analyses
would be able to help in the development of new approaches in
rescheduling strategies or perhaps to enhance the existing
rescheduling models and make them more powerful or more
applicable with shorter computing time.
Abstract: The recent developments in computing and
communication technology permit to users to access multimedia
documents with variety of devices (PCs, PDAs, mobile phones...)
having heterogeneous capabilities. This diversification of supports
has trained the need to adapt multimedia documents according to
their execution contexts. A semantic framework for multimedia
document adaptation based on the conceptual neighborhood graphs
was proposed. In this framework, adapting consists on finding
another specification that satisfies the target constraints and which is
as close as possible from the initial document. In this paper, we
propose a new way of building the conceptual neighborhood graphs
to best preserve the proximity between the adapted and the original
documents and to deal with more elaborated relations models by
integrating the relations relaxation graphs that permit to handle the
delays and the distances defined within the relations.
Abstract: It is known that an analog Hopfield neural network
with time delay can generate the outputs which are similar to the
human electroencephalogram. To gain deeper insights into the
mechanisms of rhythm generation by the Hopfield neural networks
and to study the effects of noise on their activities, we investigated
the behaviors of the networks with symmetric and asymmetric
interneuron connections. The neural network under the study consists
of 10 identical neurons. For symmetric (fully connected) networks all
interneuron connections aij = +1; the interneuron connections for
asymmetric networks form an upper triangular matrix with non-zero
entries aij = +1. The behavior of the network is described by 10
differential equations, which are solved numerically. The results of
simulations demonstrate some remarkable properties of a Hopfield
neural network, such as linear growth of outputs, dependence of
synchronization properties on the connection type, huge
amplification of oscillation by the external uniform noise, and the
capability of the neural network to transform one type of noise to
another.
