Abstract: In recent years many finite elements have been
developed for plate bending analysis. The formulated elements are
based on the strain based approach. This approach leads to the
representation of the displacements by higher order polynomial terms
without the need for the introduction of additional internal and
unnecessary degrees of freedom. Good convergence can also be
obtained when the results are compared with those obtained from the
corresponding displacement based elements, having the same total
number of degrees of freedom. Furthermore, the plate bending
elements are free from any shear locking since they converge to the
Kirchhoff solution for thin plates contrarily for the corresponding
displacement based elements. In this paper the efficiency of the strain
based approach compared to well known displacement formulation is
presented. The results obtained by a new formulated plate bending
element based on the strain approach and Kirchhoff theory are
compared with some others elements. The good convergence of the
new formulated element is confirmed.
Abstract: In this article our research focused on study of basic physical and mechanical parameters of polymer-cement repair materials is presented. Namely the influence of applied aggregates in combination with active admixture is specially considered. New formulas which were exposed in ambient with temperature even to 1000°C were suggested. Subsequently densities and strength characteristics including their changes were evaluated. Selected samples were analyzed using electron microscope. The positive influence of porous aggregates based on sintered ash was definitely demonstrated. Further it was found than in terms of thermal resistance the effective micro silica amount represents 5% to 7.5% of cement weight.
Abstract: In this work, the main problem considered is the
detection and the isolation of the actuator fault. A new formulation of
the linear system is generated to obtain the conditions of the actuator
fault diagnosis. The proposed method is based on the representation
of the actuator as a subsystem connected with the process system in
cascade manner. The designed formulation is generated to obtain the
conditions of the actuator fault detection and isolation. Detectability
conditions are expressed in terms of the invertibility notions. An
example and a comparative analysis with the classic formulation
illustrate the performances of such approach for simple actuator fault
diagnosis by using the linear model of nuclear reactor.
Abstract: Ultimate shear resistance (USR) of slender plate girders can be predicted theoretically using Cardiff theory or Höglund theory. This paper will be concerned with predicting the USR using Höglund theory and EC3. Two main factors can affect the USR, the panel width “b” and the web depth “d”, consequently, the panel aspect ratio (b/d) has to be identified by limits. In most of the previous study, there is no limit for panel aspect ratio indicated. In this paper theoretical analysis has been conducted to study the effect of (b/d) on the USR. The analysis based on ninety six test results of steel plate girders subjected to shear executed and collected by others. New formula proposed to predict the percentage of the distance between the plastic hinges form in the flanges “c” to panel width “b”. Conservative limits of (c/b) have been suggested to get a consistent value of USR.
Abstract: Object identification and segmentation application requires extraction of object in foreground from the background. In this paper the Bhattacharya distance based probabilistic approach is utilized with an active contour model (ACM) to segment an object from the background. In the proposed approach, the Bhattacharya histogram is calculated on non-linear structure tensor space. Based on the histogram, new formulation of active contour model is proposed to segment images. The results are tested on both color and gray images from the Berkeley image database. The experimental results show that the proposed model is applicable to both color and gray images as well as both texture images and natural images. Again in comparing to the Bhattacharya based ACM in ICA space, the proposed model is able to segment multiple object too.
Abstract: In biomedical implant field, a new formula is given
for the study of Radio Frequency power attenuation by simultaneous
effects of side and angular misalignment of the supply/data transfer
coils. A confrontation with the practical measurements done into a
Faraday cage, allowed a checking of the obtained theoretical results.
The DC supply systems without material connection and the data
transmitters used in the case of biomedical implants, can be well
dimensioned by taking into account the possibility of power
attenuation by misalignment of transfer coils

Abstract: Intrusion detection is a mechanism used to protect a
system and analyse and predict the behaviours of system users. An
ideal intrusion detection system is hard to achieve due to
nonlinearity, and irrelevant or redundant features. This study
introduces a new anomaly-based intrusion detection model. The
suggested model is based on particle swarm optimisation and
nonlinear, multi-class and multi-kernel support vector machines.
Particle swarm optimisation is used for feature selection by applying
a new formula to update the position and the velocity of a particle;
the support vector machine is used as a classifier. The proposed
model is tested and compared with the other methods using the KDD
CUP 1999 dataset. The results indicate that this new method achieves
better accuracy rates than previous methods.
Abstract: In a transcutanious inductive coupling of a biomedical
implant, a new formula is given for the study of the Radio Frequency
power attenuation by the biological tissue. The loss of the signal
power is related to its interaction with the biological tissue and the
composition of this one. A confrontation with the practical
measurements done with a synthetic muscle into a Faraday cage,
allowed a checking of the obtained theoretical results. The
supply/data transfer systems used in the case of biomedical implants,
can be well dimensioned by taking in account this type of power
attenuation.
Abstract: The calculation of buckling length factor (K) for steel
frames columns is a major and governing processes to determine the
dimensions steel frame columns cross sections during design. The
buckling length of steel frames columns has a direct effect on the cost
(weight) of using cross section. A new formula is required to
determine buckling length factor (K) by simplified way. In this
research a new formula for buckling length factor (K) was established
to determine by accurate method for a limited interval of columns
ends rigidity (GA, GB). The new formula can be used ease to
evaluate the buckling length factor without needing to complicated
equations or difficult charts.
Abstract: In text categorization problem the most used method
for documents representation is based on words frequency vectors
called VSM (Vector Space Model). This representation is based only
on words from documents and in this case loses any “word context"
information found in the document. In this article we make a
comparison between the classical method of document representation
and a method called Suffix Tree Document Model (STDM) that is
based on representing documents in the Suffix Tree format. For the
STDM model we proposed a new approach for documents
representation and a new formula for computing the similarity
between two documents. Thus we propose to build the suffix tree
only for any two documents at a time. This approach is faster, it has
lower memory consumption and use entire document representation
without using methods for disposing nodes. Also for this method is
proposed a formula for computing the similarity between documents,
which improves substantially the clustering quality. This
representation method was validated using HAC - Hierarchical
Agglomerative Clustering. In this context we experiment also the
stemming influence in the document preprocessing step and highlight
the difference between similarity or dissimilarity measures to find
“closer" documents.
Abstract: In comparison to the original SVM, which involves a
quadratic programming task; LS–SVM simplifies the required
computation, but unfortunately the sparseness of standard SVM is
lost. Another problem is that LS-SVM is only optimal if the training
samples are corrupted by Gaussian noise. In Least Squares SVM
(LS–SVM), the nonlinear solution is obtained, by first mapping the
input vector to a high dimensional kernel space in a nonlinear
fashion, where the solution is calculated from a linear equation set. In
this paper a geometric view of the kernel space is introduced, which
enables us to develop a new formulation to achieve a sparse and
robust estimate.
Abstract: Recently, fast neural networks for object/face
detection were presented in [1-3]. The speed up factor of these
networks relies on performing cross correlation in the frequency
domain between the input image and the weights of the hidden
layer. But, these equations given in [1-3] for conventional and fast
neural networks are not valid for many reasons presented here. In
this paper, correct equations for cross correlation in the spatial and
frequency domains are presented. Furthermore, correct formulas for
the number of computation steps required by conventional and fast
neural networks given in [1-3] are introduced. A new formula for
the speed up ratio is established. Also, corrections for the equations
of fast multi scale object/face detection are given. Moreover,
commutative cross correlation is achieved. Simulation results show
that sub-image detection based on cross correlation in the frequency
domain is faster than classical neural networks.
Abstract: In this paper, a new formulation for acoustics coupled with linear elasticity is presented. The primary objective of the work is to develop a three dimensional hp adaptive finite element method code destinated for modeling of acoustics of human head. The code will have numerous applications e.g. in designing hearing protection devices for individuals working in high noise environments. The presented work is in the preliminary stage. The variational formulation has been implemented and tested on a sequence of meshes with concentric multi-layer spheres, with material data representing the tissue (the brain), skull and the air. Thus, an efficient solver for coupled elasticity/acoustics problems has been developed, and tested on high contrast material data representing the human head.
