Abstract: Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) is an emerging and very promising technology that has great demand on the access capability of the existing wireless technology. VANETs help improve traffic safety and efficiency. Each vehicle can exchange their information to inform the other vehicles about the current status of the traffic flow or a dangerous situation such as an accident. To achieve these, a reliable and efficient Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol with minimal transmission collisions is required. High speed nodes, absence of infrastructure, variations in topology and their QoS requirements makes it difficult for designing a MAC protocol in vehicular networks. There are several MAC protocols proposed for VANETs to ensure that all the vehicles could send safety messages without collisions by reducing the end-to-end delay and packet loss ratio. This paper gives an overview of the several proposed MAC protocols for VANETs along with their benefits and limitations and presents an overall classification based on their characteristics.
Abstract: The field of wireless sensor networks (WSN) engages a lot of associates in the research community as an interdisciplinary field of interest. This type of network is inexpensive, multifunctionally attributable to advances in micro-electromechanical systems and conjointly the explosion and expansion of wireless communications. A mobile ad hoc network is a wireless network without fastened infrastructure or federal management. Due to the infrastructure-less mode of operation, mobile ad-hoc networks are gaining quality. During this work, we have performed an efficient performance study of the two major routing protocols: Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector Routing (AODV) and Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocols. We have used an accurate simulation model supported NS2 for this purpose. Our simulation results showed that AODV mitigates the drawbacks of the DSDV and provides better performance as compared to DSDV.
Abstract: In this paper, we perform the investigation of some routing protocols in Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET) context. Indeed, we study the efficiency of protocols like Dynamic Source Routing (DSR), Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector Routing (AODV), Destination Sequenced Distance Vector (DSDV), Optimized Link State Routing convention (OLSR) and Vehicular Multi-hop algorithm for Stable Clustering (VMASC) in terms of packet delivery ratio (PDR) and throughput. The performance evaluation and comparison between the studied protocols shows that the VMASC is the best protocols regarding fast data transmission and link stability in VANETs. The validation of all results is done by the NS3 simulator.
Abstract: Hybrid Sensors and Vehicular Networks (HSVN), represent a hybrid network, which uses several generations of Ad-Hoc networks. It is used especially in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). The HSVN allows making collaboration between the Wireless Sensors Network (WSN) deployed on the border of the road and the Vehicular Network (VANET). This collaboration is defined by messages exchanged between the two networks for the purpose to inform the drivers about the state of the road, provide road safety information and more information about traffic on the road. Moreover, this collaboration created by HSVN, also allows the use of a network and the advantage of improving another network. For example, the dissemination of information between the sensors quickly decreases its energy, and therefore, we can use vehicles that do not have energy constraint to disseminate the information between sensors. On the other hand, to solve the disconnection problem in VANET, the sensors can be used as gateways that allow sending the messages received by one vehicle to another. However, because of the short communication range of the sensor and its low capacity of storage and processing of data, it is difficult to ensure the exchange of road messages between it and the vehicle, which can be moving at high speed at the time of exchange. This represents the time where the vehicle is in communication range with the sensor. This work is the proposition of a communication protocol between the sensors and the vehicle used in HSVN. The latter has as the purpose to ensure the exchange of road messages in the available time of exchange.
Abstract: Small-size and low-power sensors with sensing, signal
processing and wireless communication capabilities is suitable for the
wireless sensor networks. Due to the limited resources and battery
constraints, complex routing algorithms used for the ad-hoc networks
cannot be employed in sensor networks. In this paper, we propose
node-disjoint multi-path hexagon-based routing algorithms in wireless
sensor networks. We suggest the details of the algorithm and compare
it with other works. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme
achieves better performance in terms of efficiency and message
delivery ratio.
Abstract: Most of the existing video streaming protocols
provide video services without considering security aspects in
decentralized mobile ad-hoc networks. The security policies adapted
to the currently existing non-streaming protocols, do not comply with
the live video streaming protocols resulting in considerable
vulnerability, high bandwidth consumption and unreliability which
cause severe security threats, low bandwidth and error prone
transmission respectively in video streaming applications. Therefore
a synergized methodology is required to reduce vulnerability and
bandwidth consumption, and enhance reliability in the video
streaming applications in MANET. To ensure the security measures
with reduced bandwidth consumption and improve reliability of the
video streaming applications, a Secure Low-bandwidth Video
Streaming through Reliable Multipath Propagation (SLVRMP)
protocol architecture has been proposed by incorporating the two
algorithms namely Secure Low-bandwidth Video Streaming
Algorithm and Reliable Secure Multipath Propagation Algorithm
using Layered Video Coding in non-overlapping zone routing
network topology. The performances of the proposed system are
compared to those of the other existing secure multipath protocols
Sec-MR, SPREAD using NS 2.34 and the simulation results show
that the performances of the proposed system get considerably
improved.
Abstract: The ad hoc networks are the future of wireless
technology as everyone wants fast and accurate error free information
so keeping this in mind Bit Error Rate (BER) and power is optimized
in this research paper by using the Genetic Algorithm (GA). The
digital modulation techniques used for this paper are Binary Phase
Shift Keying (BPSK), M-ary Phase Shift Keying (M-ary PSK), and
Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM). This work is
implemented on Wireless Ad Hoc Networks (WLAN). Then it is
analyze which modulation technique is performing well to optimize
the BER and power of WLAN.
Abstract: Mobile ad hoc network is a collection of mobile
nodes communicating through wireless channels without any existing
network infrastructure or centralized administration. Because of the
limited transmission range of wireless network interfaces, multiple
"hops" may be needed to exchange data across the network. In order
to facilitate communication within the network, a routing protocol is
used to discover routes between nodes. The primary goal of such an
ad hoc network routing protocol is correct and efficient route
establishment between a pair of nodes so that messages may be
delivered in a timely manner. Route construction should be done
with a minimum of overhead and bandwidth consumption. This paper
examines two routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks– the
Destination Sequenced Distance Vector (DSDV), the table- driven
protocol and the Ad hoc On- Demand Distance Vector routing
(AODV), an On –Demand protocol and evaluates both protocols
based on packet delivery fraction, normalized routing load, average
delay and throughput while varying number of nodes, speed and
pause time.

Abstract: Mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) are a form of
wireless networks which do not require a base station for providing
network connectivity. Mobile ad-hoc networks have many
characteristics which distinguish them from other wireless networks
which make routing in such networks a challenging task. Cluster
based routing is one of the routing schemes for MANETs in which
various clusters of mobile nodes are formed with each cluster having
its own clusterhead which is responsible for routing among clusters.
In this paper we have proposed and implemented a distributed
weighted clustering algorithm for MANETs. This approach is based
on combined weight metric that takes into account several system
parameters like the node degree, transmission range, energy and
mobility of the nodes. We have evaluated the performance of
proposed scheme through simulation in various network situations.
Simulation results show that proposed scheme outperforms the
original distributed weighted clustering algorithm (DWCA).
Abstract: The communication networks development and
advancement during two last decades has been toward a single goal
and that is gradual change from circuit-switched networks to packed
switched ones. Today a lot of networks operates are trying to
transform the public telephone networks to multipurpose packed
switch. This new achievement is generally called "next generation
networks". In fact, the next generation networks enable the operators
to transfer every kind of services (sound, data and video) on a
network. First, in this report the definition, characteristics and next
generation networks services and then ad-hoc networks role in the
next generation networks are studied.
Abstract: Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANET) can provide
communications between vehicles or infrastructures. It provides the
convenience of driving and the secure driving to reduce accidents. In
VANET, the security is more important because it is closely related to
accidents. Additionally, VANET raises a privacy issue because it can
track the location of vehicles and users- identity when a security
mechanism is provided. In this paper, we analyze the problem of an
existing solution for security requirements required in VANET, and
resolve the problem of the existing method when a key management
mechanism is provided for the security operation in VANET.
Therefore, we show suitability of the Long Term Evolution (LTE) in
VANET for the solution of this problem.
Abstract: In this paper optimization of routing in ad-hoc
networks is surveyed and a new method for reducing the complexity
of routing algorithms is suggested. Using binary matrices for each
node in the network and updating it once the routing is done, helps
nodes to stop repeating the routing protocols in each data transfer.
The algorithm suggested can reduce the complexity of routing to the
least amount possible.
Abstract: The advancement in wireless technology with the wide
use of mobile devices have drawn the attention of the research and
technological communities towards wireless environments, such as
Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), Wireless Wide Area
Networks (WWANs), and mobile systems and ad-hoc networks.
Unfortunately, wired and wireless networks are expressively different
in terms of link reliability, bandwidth, and time of propagation delay
and by adapting new solutions for these enhanced
telecommunications, superior quality, efficiency, and opportunities
will be provided where wireless communications were otherwise
unfeasible. Some researchers define 4G as a significant improvement
of 3G, where current cellular network’s issues will be solved and data
transfer will play a more significant role. For others, 4G unifies
cellular and wireless local area networks, and introduces new routing
techniques, efficient solutions for sharing dedicated frequency bands,
and an increased mobility and bandwidth capacity. This paper
discusses the possible solutions and enhancements probabilities that
proposed to improve the performance of Transmission Control
Protocol (TCP) over different wireless networks and also the paper
investigated each approach in term of advantages and disadvantages.
Abstract: It is expected that ubiquitous era will come soon. A ubiquitous environment has features like peer-to-peer and nomadic environments. Such features can be represented by peer-to-peer systems and mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs). The features of P2P systems and MANETs are similar, appealing for implementing P2P systems in MANET environment. It has been shown that, however, the performance of the P2P systems designed for wired networks do not perform satisfactorily in mobile ad-hoc environment. Subsequently, this paper proposes a method to improve P2P performance using cross-layer design and the goodness of a node as a peer. The proposed method uses routing metric as well as P2P metric to choose favorable peers to connect. It also utilizes proactive approach for distributing peer information. According to the simulation results, the proposed method provides higher query success rate, shorter query response time and less energy consumption by constructing an efficient overlay network.
Abstract: In this work a new platform for mobile-health systems is
presented. System target application is providing decision support to
rescue corps or military medical personnel in combat areas. Software
architecture relies on a distributed client-server system that manages a
wireless ad-hoc networks hierarchy in which several different types of
client operate. Each client is characterized for different hardware and
software requirements. Lower hierarchy levels rely in a network of
completely custom devices that store clinical information and patient
status and are designed to form an ad-hoc network operating in the
2.4 GHz ISM band and complying with the IEEE 802.15.4 standard
(ZigBee). Medical personnel may interact with such devices, that are
called MICs (Medical Information Carriers), by means of a PDA
(Personal Digital Assistant) or a MDA (Medical Digital Assistant),
and transmit the information stored in their local databases as well as
issue a service request to the upper hierarchy levels by using IEEE
802.11 a/b/g standard (WiFi). The server acts as a repository that
stores both medical evacuation forms and associated events (e.g., a
teleconsulting request). All the actors participating in the diagnostic
or evacuation process may access asynchronously to such repository
and update its content or generate new events. The designed system
pretends to optimise and improve information spreading and flow
among all the system components with the aim of improving both
diagnostic quality and evacuation process.
Abstract: In this paper, we proposed a new routing protocol for
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) that equipped with directional
antenna. We named this protocol Directional Optimized Link State
Routing Protocol (DOLSR). This protocol is based on the well
known protocol that is called Optimized Link State Routing Protocol
(OLSR). We focused in our protocol on the multipoint relay (MPR)
concept which is the most important feature of this protocol. We
developed a heuristic that allows DOLSR protocol to minimize
the number of the multipoint relays. With this new protocol the
number of overhead packets will be reduced and the End-to-End
delay of the network will also be minimized. We showed through
simulation that our protocol outperformed Optimized Link State
Routing Protocol, Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol and Ad-
Hoc On demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol in
reducing the End-to-End delay and enhancing the overall
throughput. Our evaluation of the previous protocols was based
on the OPNET network simulation tool.
Abstract: Ant colony based routing algorithms are known to
grantee the packet delivery, but they suffer from the huge overhead
of control messages which are needed to discover the route. In this
paper we utilize the network nodes positions to group the nodes
in connected clusters. We use clusters-heads only on forwarding
the route discovery control messages. Our simulations proved that
the new algorithm has decreased the overhead dramatically without
affecting the delivery rate.
Abstract: This paper presents a video transmission system using
layered multiple description (coding (MDC) and multi-path transport
for reliable video communications in wireless ad-hoc networks.
The proposed MDC extends a quality-scalable H.264/AVC video
coding algorithm to generate two independent descriptions. The two
descriptions are transmitted over different paths to a receiver in order
to alleviate the effect of unstable channel conditions of wireless adhoc
networks. If one description is lost due to transmission erros,
then the correctly received description is used to estimate the lost
information of the corrupted description. The proposed MD coder
maintains an adequate video quality as long as both description are
not simultaneously lost. Simulation results show that the proposed
MD coding combined with multi-path transport system is largely
immune to packet losses, and therefore, can be a promising solution
for robust video communications over wireless ad-hoc networks.
