Abstract: Environmental aspects plays a central role in environmental management system (EMS) because it is the basis for the identification of an organization-s environmental targets. The
existing methods for the assessment of environmental aspects are grouped into three categories: risk assessment-based (RA-based),
LCA-based and criterion-based methods. To combine the benefits of
these three categories of research, this study proposes an integrated framework, combining RA-, LCA- and criterion-based methods. The
integrated framework incorporates LCA techniques for the identification of the causal linkage for aspect, pathway, receptor and
impact, uses fuzzy logic to assess aspects, considers fuzzy conditions,
in likelihood assessment, and employs a new multi-criteria decision analysis method - multi-criteria and multi-connection comprehensive
assessment (MMCA) - to estimate significant aspects in EMS. The proposed model is verified, using a real case study and the results show
that this method successfully prioritizes the environmental aspects.
Abstract: The increasing competitiveness in manufacturing
industry is forcing manufacturers to seek effective processing
schedules. The paper presents an optimization manufacture
scheduling approach for dependent details processing with given
processing sequences and times on multiple machines. By defining
decision variables as start and end moments of details processing it is
possible to use straightforward variables restrictions to satisfy
different technological requirements and to formulate easy to
understand and solve optimization tasks for multiple numbers of
details and machines. A case study example is solved for seven base
moldings for CNC metalworking machines processed on five
different machines with given processing order among details and
machines and known processing time-s duration. As a result of linear
optimization task solution the optimal manufacturing schedule
minimizing the overall processing time is obtained. The
manufacturing schedule defines the moments of moldings delivery
thus minimizing storage costs and provides mounting due-time
satisfaction. The proposed optimization approach is based on real
manufacturing plant problem. Different processing schedules variants
for different technological restrictions were defined and implemented
in the practice of Bulgarian company RAIS Ltd. The proposed
approach could be generalized for other job shop scheduling
problems for different applications.
Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the strategic stochastic air traffic flow management problem which seeks to balance airspace capacity and demand under weather disruptions. The goal is to reduce the need for myopic tactical decisions that do not account for probabilistic knowledge about the NAS near-future states. We present and discuss a scenario-based modeling approach based on a time-space stochastic process to depict weather disruption occurrences in the NAS. A solution framework is also proposed along with a distributed implementation aimed at overcoming scalability problems. Issues related to this implementation are also discussed.
Abstract: Many foreign and Lithuanian scientists, analyzing the
evaluation of the tax system in respect of the burden of taxation,
agree that the latter, in principle, depends on how many individuals
and what units of the residents constitute a household. Therefore, the
aim of scientific research is to substantiate or to deny the significance
of a household, but not a resident, as a statistical unit, during the
evaluation of tax system, to be precise, determination of the value of
the burden of taxation. A performed scientific research revealed that
evaluation of the tax system in respect of a household, but not a
resident, as a statistical unit, allows not only to evaluate the
efficiency of the tax system more objectively, but also to forecast
practicably existing poverty line, burden of taxation, and to
capacitate the initiation of efficient decisions in social and tax fields
creating the environment of existence.
Abstract: In recent years, a number of works proposing the
combination of multiple classifiers to produce a single
classification have been reported in remote sensing literature. The
resulting classifier, referred to as an ensemble classifier, is
generally found to be more accurate than any of the individual
classifiers making up the ensemble. As accuracy is the primary
concern, much of the research in the field of land cover
classification is focused on improving classification accuracy. This
study compares the performance of four ensemble approaches
(boosting, bagging, DECORATE and random subspace) with a
univariate decision tree as base classifier. Two training datasets,
one without ant noise and other with 20 percent noise was used to
judge the performance of different ensemble approaches. Results
with noise free data set suggest an improvement of about 4% in
classification accuracy with all ensemble approaches in
comparison to the results provided by univariate decision tree
classifier. Highest classification accuracy of 87.43% was achieved
by boosted decision tree. A comparison of results with noisy data
set suggests that bagging, DECORATE and random subspace
approaches works well with this data whereas the performance of
boosted decision tree degrades and a classification accuracy of
79.7% is achieved which is even lower than that is achieved (i.e.
80.02%) by using unboosted decision tree classifier.
Abstract: Heart failure is the most common reason of death
nowadays, but if the medical help is given directly, the patient-s life
may be saved in many cases. Numerous heart diseases can be
detected by means of analyzing electrocardiograms (ECG). Artificial
Neural Networks (ANN) are computer-based expert systems that
have proved to be useful in pattern recognition tasks. ANN can be
used in different phases of the decision-making process, from
classification to diagnostic procedures. This work concentrates on a
review followed by a novel method.
The purpose of the review is to assess the evidence of healthcare
benefits involving the application of artificial neural networks to the
clinical functions of diagnosis, prognosis and survival analysis, in
ECG signals. The developed method is based on a compound neural
network (CNN), to classify ECGs as normal or carrying an
AtrioVentricular heart Block (AVB). This method uses three
different feed forward multilayer neural networks. A single output
unit encodes the probability of AVB occurrences. A value between 0
and 0.1 is the desired output for a normal ECG; a value between 0.1
and 1 would infer an occurrence of an AVB. The results show that
this compound network has a good performance in detecting AVBs,
with a sensitivity of 90.7% and a specificity of 86.05%. The accuracy
value is 87.9%.
Abstract: This paper is motivated by the aspect of uncertainty in
financial decision making, and how artificial intelligence and soft
computing, with its uncertainty reducing aspects can be used for
algorithmic trading applications that trade in high frequency.
This paper presents an optimized high frequency trading system that
has been combined with various moving averages to produce a hybrid
system that outperforms trading systems that rely solely on moving
averages. The paper optimizes an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference
system that takes both the price and its moving average as input,
learns to predict price movements from training data consisting of
intraday data, dynamically switches between the best performing
moving averages, and performs decision making of when to buy or
sell a certain currency in high frequency.

The merits of the new sequential test are: universality which consists in optimality (with given criteria) and uniformity of decision-making regions for any number of hypotheses; simplicity, convenience and uniformity of the algorithms of their realization; reliability of the obtained results and an opportunity of providing the errors probabilities of desirable values. There are given the Computation results of concrete examples which confirm the above-stated characteristics of the new method and characterize the considered methods in regard to each other.
Abstract: American public schools should be the place that reflects America-s diverse society. The recent Supreme Court decision to discontinue the use of race as a factor in school admission policies has caused major setbacks in America-s effort to repair its racial divide, to improve public schools, and to provide opportunities for all people, regardless of race or creed. However, educators should not allow such legal decision to hinder their ability to teach children tolerance of others in schools and classrooms in America.
Abstract: Property investment in the real estate industry has a
high risk due to the uncertainty factors that will affect the decisions
made and high cost. Analytic hierarchy process has existed for some
time in which referred to an expert-s opinion to measure the
uncertainty of the risk factors for the risk analysis. Therefore,
different level of experts- experiences will create different opinion
and lead to the conflict among the experts in the field. The objective
of this paper is to propose a new technique to measure the uncertainty
of the risk factors based on multidimensional data model and data
mining techniques as deterministic approach. The propose technique
consist of a basic framework which includes four modules: user,
technology, end-user access tools and applications. The property
investment risk analysis defines as a micro level analysis as the
features of the property will be considered in the analysis in this
paper.
Abstract: A catastrophic earthquake measuring 6.3 on the
Richter scale struck the Christchurch, New Zealand Central Business
District on February 22, 2012, abruptly disrupting the business of
teaching and learning at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of
Technology. This paper presents the findings from a study
undertaken about the complexity of delivering an educational
programme in the face of this traumatic natural event. Nine
interconnected themes emerged from this multiple method study:
communication, decision making, leader- and follower-ship,
balancing personal and professional responsibilities, taking action,
preparedness and thinking ahead, all within a disruptive and uncertain
context. Sustainable responses that maximise business continuity, and
provide solutions to practical challenges, are among the study-s
recommendations.
Abstract: Selection of the best possible set of suppliers has a
significant impact on the overall profitability and success of any
business. For this reason, it is usually necessary to optimize all
business processes and to make use of cost-effective alternatives for
additional savings. This paper proposes a new efficient context-aware
supplier selection model that takes into account possible changes of
the environment while significantly reducing selection costs. The
proposed model is based on data clustering techniques while
inspiring certain principles of online algorithms for an optimally
selection of suppliers. Unlike common selection models which re-run
the selection algorithm from the scratch-line for any decision-making
sub-period on the whole environment, our model considers the
changes only and superimposes it to the previously defined best set
of suppliers to obtain a new best set of suppliers. Therefore, any recomputation
of unchanged elements of the environment is avoided
and selection costs are consequently reduced significantly. A
numerical evaluation confirms applicability of this model and proves
that it is a more optimal solution compared with common static
selection models in this field.
Abstract: We present a new intuitionistic fuzzy aggregation
operator called the intuitionistic fuzzy ordered weighted
averaging-weighted average (IFOWAWA) operator. The main
advantage of the IFOWAWA operator is that it unifies the OWA
operator with the WA in the same formulation considering the degree
of importance that each concept has in the aggregation. Moreover, it is
able to deal with an uncertain environment that can be assessed with
intuitionistic fuzzy numbers. We study some of its main properties and
we see that it has a lot of particular cases such as the intuitionistic
fuzzy weighted average (IFWA) and the intuitionistic fuzzy OWA
(IFOWA) operator. Finally, we study the applicability of the new
approach on a financial decision making problem concerning the
selection of financial strategies.
Abstract: PPX(Pretty Printer for XML) is a query language that offers a concise description method of formatting the XML data into HTML. In this paper, we propose a simple specification of formatting method that is a combination description of automatic layout operators and variables in the layout expression of the GENERATE clause of PPX. This method can automatically format irregular XML data included in a part of XML with layout decision rule that is referred to DTD. In the experiment, a quick comparison shows that PPX requires far less description compared to XSLT or XQuery programs doing same tasks.
Abstract: The purpose of this study is i) to investigate the driving factors and barriers of the adoption of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Halal logistic and ii) to develop an ICT adoption framework for Halal logistic service provider. The Halal LSPs selected for the study currently used ICT service platforms, such as accounting and management system for Halal logistic business. The study categorizes the factors influencing the adoption decision and process by LSPs into four groups: technology related factors, organizational and environmental factors, Halal assurance related factors, and government related factors. The major contribution in this study is the discovery that technology related factors (ICT compatibility with Halal requirement) and Halal assurance related factors are the most crucial factors among the Halal LSPs applying ICT for Halal control in transportation-s operation. Among the government related factors, ICT requirement for monitoring Halal included in Halal Logistic Standard on Transportation (MS2400:2010) are the most influencing factors in the adoption of ICT with the support of the government. In addition, the government related factors are very important in the reducing the main barriers and the creation of the atmosphere of ICT adoption in Halal LSP sector.
Abstract: This paper presents a novel two-phase hybrid optimization algorithm with hybrid genetic operators to solve the optimal control problem of a single stage hybrid manufacturing system. The proposed hybrid real coded genetic algorithm (HRCGA) is developed in such a way that a simple real coded GA acts as a base level search, which makes a quick decision to direct the search towards the optimal region, and a local search method is next employed to do fine tuning. The hybrid genetic operators involved in the proposed algorithm improve both the quality of the solution and convergence speed. The phase–1 uses conventional real coded genetic algorithm (RCGA), while optimisation by direct search and systematic reduction of the size of search region is employed in the phase – 2. A typical numerical example of an optimal control problem with the number of jobs varying from 10 to 50 is included to illustrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm. Several statistical analyses are done to compare the validity of the proposed algorithm with the conventional RCGA and PSO techniques. Hypothesis t – test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) test are also carried out to validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The results clearly demonstrate that the proposed algorithm not only improves the quality but also is more efficient in converging to the optimal value faster. They can outperform the conventional real coded GA (RCGA) and the efficient particle swarm optimisation (PSO) algorithm in quality of the optimal solution and also in terms of convergence to the actual optimum value.
Abstract: E-Appointment Scheduling (EAS) has been developed
to handle appointment for UMP students, lecturers in Faculty of
Computer Systems & Software Engineering (FCSSE) and Student
Medical Center. The schedules are based on the timetable and
university activities. Constraints Logic Programming (CLP) has been
implemented to solve the scheduling problems by giving
recommendation to the users in part of determining any available
slots from the lecturers and doctors- timetable. By using this system,
we can avoid wasting time and cost because this application will set
an appointment by auto-generated. In addition, this system can be an
alternative to the lecturers and doctors to make decisions whether to
approve or reject the appointments.
Abstract: Financial literacy is one of the key factors needed in making informed financial decisions. As businesses continue to be more profit driven, more financial and economic intrigues arise that continue to put individuals at the risk of spending more and more without considering the short term and long term effects. We conducted a study to assess financial literacy and financial decision making among Emiratis. Our results show that financial literacy is lacking among Emiratis. Also, almost half of respondents owe loans to other peoples and 1/5 of them have bank loans. We expect that the outcome of this research will be useful for designing educational programs and policies to promote financial planning and security among Emiratis. We also posit that deeper and more informed understanding of this problem is a precursor for developing effective financial education programs with the aim of improving financial decision- making among Emiratis.
Abstract: Quantitative measurements of tumor in general and tumor volume in particular, become more realistic with the use of Magnetic Resonance imaging, especially when the tumor morphological changes become irregular and difficult to assess by clinical examination. However, tumor volume estimation strongly depends on the image segmentation, which is fuzzy by nature. In this paper a fuzzy approach is presented for tumor volume segmentation based on the fuzzy connectedness algorithm. The fuzzy affinity matrix resulting from segmentation is then used to estimate a fuzzy volume based on a certainty parameter, an Alpha Cut, defined by the user. The proposed method was shown to highly affect treatment decisions. A statistical analysis was performed in this study to validate the results based on a manual method for volume estimation and the importance of using the Alpha Cut is further explained.
