Abstract: In this paper, we propose a robust scheme to work face alignment and recognition under various influences. For face representation, illumination influence and variable expressions are the important factors, especially the accuracy of facial localization and face recognition. In order to solve those of factors, we propose a robust approach to overcome these problems. This approach consists of two phases. One phase is preprocessed for face images by means of the proposed illumination normalization method. The location of facial features can fit more efficient and fast based on the proposed image blending. On the other hand, based on template matching, we further improve the active shape models (called as IASM) to locate the face shape more precise which can gain the recognized rate in the next phase. The other phase is to process feature extraction by using principal component analysis and face recognition by using support vector machine classifiers. The results show that this proposed method can obtain good facial localization and face recognition with varied illumination and local distortion.
Abstract: In this paper we address the problem of musical style
classification, which has a number of applications like indexing in
musical databases or automatic composition systems. Starting from
MIDI files of real-world improvisations, we extract the melody track
and cut it into overlapping segments of equal length. From these
fragments, some numerical features are extracted as descriptors of
style samples. We show that a standard Bayesian classifier can be
conveniently employed to build an effective musical style classifier,
once this set of features has been extracted from musical data.
Preliminary experimental results show the effectiveness of the
developed classifier that represents the first component of a musical
audio retrieval system
Abstract: This study aims to identify the current situation and
problems of environmental statement for major four home appliances
(refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners and television
receivers) sold at online stores in Japan, and then to suggest how to
improve the situation, through a questionnaire survey conducted
among businesses that operate online stores and online malls with
multiple online stores. Results of the study boil down to:
(1) It is found out that environmental statement for the home
appliances at online stores have four problems; (i) less information
on “three Rs" and “chemical substances" than the one on “energy
conservation", (ii) cost for providing environmental statement, (iii)
issues associated with a label and mark placement, and (iv) issues
associated with energy conservation statement.
(2) Improvements are suggested for each of the four problems listed
above, and shown are (i) the effectiveness of, and need to promote, a
label and mark placement, (ii) cost burden on buyers, and (iii) need
of active efforts made by businesses and of dissemination of legal
regulations to businesses.
Abstract: Prior to 1975, women in Laos suffered from having
reduced levels of power over decision-making in their families and in
their communities. This has had a negative impact on their ability to
develop their own identities. Their roles were identified as being
responsible for household activities and making preparations for their
marriage. Many women lost opportunities to get educated and access
the outdoor work that might have empowered them to improve their
situations. So far, no accurate figures of either emigrants or return
migrants have been compiled but it appears that most of them were
women, and it was women who most and more frequently remitted
money home. However, very few recent studies have addressed the
relationship between remittances and the roles of women in Laos.
This study, therefore, aims at redressing to some extent the
deficiencies in knowledge. Qualitative techniques were used to gather
data, including individual in-depth interviews and direct observation
in combination with the content analysis method. Forty women in
Vientiane Municipality and Savannakhet province were individually
interviewed. It was found that the monetary remittance was typically
used for family security and well-being; on fungible activities; on
economic and business activities; and on community development,
especially concerning hospitality and providing daily household
necessities. Remittances played important roles in improving many
respondents- livelihoods and positively changed their identities in
families and communities. Women became empowered as they were
able to start commercial businesses, rather than taking care of (just)
housework, children and elders. Interviews indicated that 92.5% of
the respondents their quality of lives improved, 90% felt happier in
their families and 82.5% felt conflicts in their families were reduced.
Abstract: LES with mixed subgrid-scale model has been used to
simulate aerodynamic performance of hypersonic configuration. The
simulation was conducted to replicate conditions and geometry of a
model which has been previously tested. LES Model has been
successful in predict pressure coefficient with the max error 1.5%
besides afterbody. But in the high Mach number condition, it is poor in
predict ability and product 12.5% error. The calculation error are
mainly conducted by the distribution swirling. The fact of poor ability
in the high Mach number and afterbody region indicated that the
mixed subgrid-scale model should be improved in large eddied
especially in hypersonic separate region. In the condition of attach and
sideslip flight, the calculation results have waves. LES are successful
in the prediction the pressure wave in hypersonic flow.
Abstract: Heat pipes are used to control the thermal problem for
electronic cooling. It is especially difficult to dissipate heat to a heat
sink in an environment in space compared to earth. For solving this
problem, in this study, the Poiseuille (Po) number, which is the main
measure of the performance of a heat pipe, is studied by CFD; then, the
heat pipe performance is verified with experimental results. A heat
pipe is then fabricated for a spatial environment, and an in-house code
is developed. Further, a heat pipe subsystem, which consists of a heat
pipe, MLI (Multi Layer Insulator), SSM (Second Surface Mirror), and
radiator, is tested and correlated with the TMM (Thermal
Mathematical Model) through a commercial code. The correlation
results satisfy the 3K requirement, and the generated thermal model is
verified for application to a spatial environment.

Abstract: Bendability is constrained by maximum top roller
load imparting capacity of the machine. Maximum load is
encountered during the edge pre-bending stage of roller bending.
Capacity of 3-roller plate bending machine is specified by
maximum thickness and minimum shell diameter combinations that
can be pre-bend for given plate material of maximum width.
Commercially available plate width or width of the plate that can be
accommodated on machine decides the maximum rolling width.
Original equipment manufacturers (OEM) provide the machine
capacity chart based on reference material considering perfectly
plastic material model. Reported work shows the bendability analysis
of heavy duty 3-roller plate bending machine. The input variables for
the industry are plate thickness, shell diameter and material property
parameters, as it is fixed by the design. Analytical models of
equivalent thickness, equivalent width and maximum width based on
power law material model were derived to study the bendability.
Equation of maximum width provides bendability for designed
configuration i.e. material property, shell diameter and thickness
combinations within the machine limitations. Equivalent thicknesses
based on perfectly plastic and power law material model were
compared for four different materials grades of C-Mn steel in order
to predict the bend-ability. Effect of top roller offset on the
bendability at maximum top roller load imparting capacity is
reported.
Abstract: Many agricultural and especially greenhouse
applications like plant inspection, data gathering, spraying and
selective harvesting could be performed by robots. In this paper
multiple nonholonomic robots are used in order to create a desired
formation scheme for screening solar energy in a greenhouse through
data gathering. The formation consists from a leader and a team
member equipped with appropriate sensors. Each robot is dedicated
to its mission in the greenhouse that is predefined by the
requirements of the application. The feasibility of the proposed
application includes experimental results with three unmanned
ground vehicles (UGV).
Abstract: This paper presents the optimum design for a double
stator, cup rotor machine; a novel type of BLDC PM Machine. The optimization approach is divided into two stages: the first stage is
calculating the machine configuration using Matlab, and the second stage is the optimization of the machine using Finite Element
Modeling (FEM). Under the design specifications, the machine
model will be selected from three pole numbers, namely, 8, 10 and 12 with an appropriate slot number. A double stator brushless DC
permanent magnet machine is designed to achieve low cogging torque; high electromagnetic torque and low ripple torque.
Abstract: Using Turkish data, in this study it is investigated that
whether a firm’s ownership structure has an impact on its stock
prices after the crisis. A linear regression model is conducted on the
data of non-financial firms that are trading in Istanbul Stock
Exchange 100 Index (ISE 100) index. The findings show that, all
explanatory variables such as inside ownership, largest ownership,
concentrated ownership, foreign shareholders, family controlled and
dispersed ownership are not very important to explain stock prices
after the crisis. Family controlled firms and concentrated ownership
is positively related to stock price, dispersed ownership, largest
ownership, foreign shareholders, and inside ownership structures
have negative interaction between stock prices, but because of the p
value is not under the value of 0.05 this relation is not significant. In
addition, the analysis shows that, the shares of firms that have inside,
largest and dispersed ownership structure are outperform comparing
with the other firms. Furthermore, ownership concentrated firms
outperform to family controlled firms.
Abstract: The main objective of this study is to test the
relationship between numbers of variables representing the firm
characteristics (market-related variables) and the extent of voluntary
disclosure levels (forward-looking disclosure) in the annual reports of
Egyptian firms listed on the Egyptian Stock Exchange. The results
show that audit firm size is significantly positively correlated (in all
the three years) with the level of forward-looking disclosure.
However, industry type variable (which divided to: industries,
cement, construction, petrochemicals and services), is found being
insignificantly association with the level of forward-looking
information disclosed in the annual reports for all the three years.
Abstract: Nowadays, with the emerging of the new applications
like robot control in image processing, artificial vision for visual
servoing is a rapidly growing discipline and Human-machine
interaction plays a significant role for controlling the robot. This
paper presents a new algorithm based on spatio-temporal volumes for
visual servoing aims to control robots. In this algorithm, after
applying necessary pre-processing on video frames, a spatio-temporal
volume is constructed for each gesture and feature vector is extracted.
These volumes are then analyzed for matching in two consecutive
stages. For hand gesture recognition and classification we tested
different classifiers including k-Nearest neighbor, learning vector
quantization and back propagation neural networks. We tested the
proposed algorithm with the collected data set and results showed the
correct gesture recognition rate of 99.58 percent. We also tested the
algorithm with noisy images and algorithm showed the correct
recognition rate of 97.92 percent in noisy images.
Abstract: In this work, we present for the first time in our perception an efficient digital watermarking scheme for mpeg audio layer 3 files that operates directly in the compressed data domain, while manipulating the time and subband/channel domain. In addition, it does not need the original signal to detect the watermark. Our scheme was implemented taking special care for the efficient usage of the two limited resources of computer systems: time and space. It offers to the industrial user the capability of watermark embedding and detection in time immediately comparable to the real music time of the original audio file that depends on the mpeg compression, while the end user/audience does not face any artifacts or delays hearing the watermarked audio file. Furthermore, it overcomes the disadvantage of algorithms operating in the PCMData domain to be vulnerable to compression/recompression attacks, as it places the watermark in the scale factors domain and not in the digitized sound audio data. The strength of our scheme, that allows it to be used with success in both authentication and copyright protection, relies on the fact that it gives to the users the enhanced capability their ownership of the audio file not to be accomplished simply by detecting the bit pattern that comprises the watermark itself, but by showing that the legal owner knows a hard to compute property of the watermark.
Abstract: In this paper, five options of Iran’s gas flare recovery
have been compared via MCDM method. For developing the model,
the weighing factor of each indicator an AHP method is used via the
Expert-choice software. Several cases were considered in this
analysis. They are defined where the priorities were defined always
keeping one criterion in first position, while the priorities of the other
criteria were defined by ordinal information defining the mutual
relations of the criteria and the respective indicators. The results,
show that amongst these cases, priority is obtained for CHP usage
where availability indicator is highly weighted while the pipeline
usage is obtained where environmental indicator highly weighted and
the injection priority is obtained where economic indicator is highly
weighted and also when the weighing factor of all the criteria are the
same the Injection priority is obtained.
Abstract: Multi-dimensional principal component analysis
(PCA) is the extension of the PCA, which is used widely as the
dimensionality reduction technique in multivariate data analysis, to
handle multi-dimensional data. To calculate the PCA the singular
value decomposition (SVD) is commonly employed by the reason of
its numerical stability. The multi-dimensional PCA can be calculated
by using the higher-order SVD (HOSVD), which is proposed by
Lathauwer et al., similarly with the case of ordinary PCA. In this
paper, we apply the multi-dimensional PCA to the multi-dimensional
medical data including the functional independence measure (FIM)
score, and describe the results of experimental analysis.
Abstract: The statistical process control (SPC) is one of the most powerful tools developed to assist ineffective control of quality, involves collecting, organizing and interpreting data during production. This article aims to show how the use of CEP industries can control and continuously improve product quality through monitoring of production that can detect deviations of parameters representing the process by reducing the amount of off-specification products and thus the costs of production. This study aimed to conduct a technological forecasting in order to characterize the research being done related to the CEP. The survey was conducted in the databases Spacenet, WIPO and the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). Among the largest are the United States depositors and deposits via PCT, the classification section that was presented in greater abundance to F.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a novel frequency offset
estimation scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing
(OFDM) systems. By correlating the OFDM signals within the coherence
phase bandwidth and employing a threshold in the frequency
offset estimation process, the proposed scheme is not only robust to
the timing offset but also has a reduced complexity compared with
that of the conventional scheme. Moreover, a timing offset estimation
scheme is also proposed as the next stage of the proposed frequency
offset estimation. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme
can estimate frequency offset with lower computational complexity
and does not require additional memory while maintaining the same
level of estimation performance.
Abstract: This work represents the first review paper to explore the relationship between perfectionistic personality and borderline personality organization. The developmental origins, identity diffusion, interpersonal difficulties, and defense mechanisms that are common to both borderline personality and the interpersonal components of perfectionism are explored, and existing research on perfectionism and borderline personality is reviewed. The importance of the link between perfectionism and borderline features is discussed in terms of its contribution to the conceptual understanding of personality pathology as well as to applied clinical practices.
