Abstract: this paper gives a novel approach towards real-time speed estimation of multiple traffic vehicles using fuzzy logic and image processing techniques with proper arrangement of camera parameters. The described algorithm consists of several important steps. First, the background is estimated by computing median over time window of specific frames. Second, the foreground is extracted using fuzzy similarity approach (FSA) between estimated background pixels and the current frame pixels containing foreground and background. Third, the traffic lanes are divided into two parts for both direction vehicles for parallel processing. Finally, the speeds of vehicles are estimated by Maximum a Posterior Probability (MAP) estimator. True ground speed is determined by utilizing infrared sensors for three different vehicles and the results are compared to the proposed algorithm with an accuracy of ± 0.74 kmph.
Abstract: Bandwidth allocation in wired network is less complex
and to allocate bandwidth in wireless networks is complex and
challenging, due to the mobility of source end system. This paper
proposes a new approach to bandwidth allocation to higher and lower
priority mobile nodes. In our proposal bandwidth allocation to new
mobile node is based on bandwidth utilization of existing mobile
nodes. The first section of the paper focuses on introduction to
bandwidth allocation in wireless networks and presents the existing
solutions available for allocation of bandwidth. The second section
proposes the new solution for the bandwidth allocation to higher and
lower priority nodes. Finally this paper ends with the analytical
evaluation of the proposed solution.
Abstract: This paper concerns a formal model to help the
simulation of agent societies where institutional roles and
institutional links can be specified operationally. That is, this paper
concerns institutional roles that can be specified in terms of a minimal behavioral capability that an agent should have in order to
enact that role and, thus, to perform the set of institutional functions that role is responsible for. Correspondingly, the paper concerns
institutional links that can be specified in terms of a minimal
interactional capability that two agents should have in order to, while
enacting the two institutional roles that are linked by that institutional
link, perform for each other the institutional functions supported by
that institutional link. The paper proposes a cognitive architecture
approach to institutional roles and institutional links, that is, an approach in which a institutional role is seen as an abstract cognitive
architecture that should be implemented by any concrete agent (or set of concrete agents) that enacts the institutional role, and in which
institutional links are seen as interactions between the two abstract
cognitive agents that model the two linked institutional roles. We
introduce a cognitive architecture for such purpose, called the
Institutional BCC (IBCC) model, which lifts Yoav Shoham-s BCC
(Beliefs-Capabilities-Commitments) agent architecture to social
contexts. We show how the resulting model can be taken as a means
for a cognitive architecture account of institutional roles and
institutional links of agent societies. Finally, we present an example
of a generic scheme for certain fragments of the social organization
of agent societies, where institutional roles and institutional links are
given in terms of the model.
Abstract: In conventional reliability assessment, the reliability data of system components are treated as crisp values. The collected data have some uncertainties due to errors by human beings/machines or any other sources. These uncertainty factors will limit the understanding of system component failure due to the reason of incomplete data. In these situations, we need to generalize classical methods to fuzzy environment for studying and analyzing the systems of interest. Fuzzy set theory has been proposed to handle such vagueness by generalizing the notion of membership in a set. Essentially, in a Fuzzy Set (FS) each element is associated with a point-value selected from the unit interval [0, 1], which is termed as the grade of membership in the set. A Vague Set (VS), as well as an Intuitionistic Fuzzy Set (IFS), is a further generalization of an FS. Instead of using point-based membership as in FS, interval-based membership is used in VS. The interval-based membership in VS is more expressive in capturing vagueness of data. In the present paper, vague set theory coupled with conventional Lambda-Tau method is presented for reliability analysis of repairable systems. The methodology uses Petri nets (PN) to model the system instead of fault tree because it allows efficient simultaneous generation of minimal cuts and path sets. The presented method is illustrated with the press unit of the paper mill.
Abstract: In this paper, various algorithms for designing quadrature mirror filter are reviewed and a new algorithm is presented for the design of near perfect reconstruction quadrature mirror filter bank. In the proposed algorithm, objective function is formulated using the perfect reconstruction condition or magnitude response condition of prototype filter at frequency (ω = 0.5π) in ideal condition. The cutoff frequency is iteratively changed to adjust the filters coefficients using optimization algorithm. The performances of the proposed algorithm are evaluated in term of computation time, reconstruction error and number of iterations. The design examples illustrate that the proposed algorithm is superior in term of peak reconstruction error, computation time, and number of iterations. The proposed algorithm is simple, easy to implement, and linear in nature.
Abstract: The purpose of this research is to compare the original
intra-oral digital dental radiograph images with images that are
enhanced using a combination of image processing algorithms. Intraoral
digital dental radiograph images are often noisy, blur edges and
low in contrast. A combination of sharpening and enhancement
method are used to overcome these problems. Three types of
proposed compound algorithms used are Sharp Adaptive Histogram
Equalization (SAHE), Sharp Median Adaptive Histogram
Equalization (SMAHE) and Sharp Contrast adaptive histogram
equalization (SCLAHE). This paper presents an initial study of the
perception of six dentists on the details of abnormal pathologies and
improvement of image quality in ten intra-oral radiographs. The
research focus on the detection of only three types of pathology
which is periapical radiolucency, widen periodontal ligament space
and loss of lamina dura. The overall result shows that SCLAHE-s
slightly improve the appearance of dental abnormalities- over the
original image and also outperform the other two proposed
compound algorithms.
Abstract: This paper proposes a three-dimensional motion capture and feedback system of flying disc throwing action learners with use of Kinect device. Rather than conventional 3-D motion capture system, Kinect has advantages of cost merit, easy system development and operation. A novice learner of flying disc is trained to keep arm movement in steady height, to twist the waist, and to stretch the elbow according to the waist angle. The proposing system captures learners- body movement, checks their skeleton positions in pre-motion / motion / post-motion in several ways, and displays feedback messages to refine their actions.
Abstract: This paper reports on the theoretical performance
analysis of the 1.3 μm In0.42Ga0.58As /In0.26Ga0.74As multiple quantum
well (MQW) vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) on the
ternary In0.31Ga0.69As substrate. The output power of 2.2 mW has
been obtained at room temperature for 7.5 mA injection current. The
material gain has been estimated to be ~3156 cm-1 at room
temperature with the injection carrier concentration of 2×1017 cm-3.
The modulation bandwidth of this laser is measured to be 9.34 GHz
at room temperature for the biasing current of 2 mA above the
threshold value. The outcomes reveal that the proposed InGaAsbased
MQW laser is the promising one for optical communication
system.
Abstract: Image watermarking has proven to be quite an
efficient tool for the purpose of copyright protection and
authentication over the last few years. In this paper, a novel image
watermarking technique in the wavelet domain is suggested and
tested. To achieve more security and robustness, the proposed
techniques relies on using two nested watermarks that are embedded
into the image to be watermarked. A primary watermark in form of a
PN sequence is first embedded into an image (the secondary
watermark) before being embedded into the host image. The
technique is implemented using Daubechies mother wavelets where
an arbitrary embedding factor α is introduced to improve the
invisibility and robustness. The proposed technique has been applied
on several gray scale images where a PSNR of about 60 dB was
achieved.
Abstract: A fuzzy predictive pursuit guidance is proposed as an
alternative to the conventional methods. The purpose of this scheme
is to obtain a stable and fast guidance. The noise effects must be
reduced in homing missile guidance to get an accurate control. An
aerodynamic missile model is simulated first and a fuzzy predictive
pursuit control algorithm is applied to reduce the noise effects. The
performance of this algorithm is compared with the performance of
the classical proportional derivative control. Stability analysis of the
proposed guidance method is performed and compared with the
stability properties of other guidance methods. Simulation results
show that the proposed method provides the satisfying performance.
Abstract: We consider a two-way relay network where two sources exchange information. A relay helps the two sources exchange information using the decode-and-XOR-forward protocol. We investigate the power minimization problem with minimum rate constraints. The system needs two time slots and in each time slot the required rate pair should be achievable. The power consumption is minimized in each time slot and we obtained the closed form solution. The simulation results confirm that the proposed power allocation scheme consumes lower total power than the conventional schemes.
Abstract: In this paper motion analysis on a winding
stair-climbing is investigated using our proposed rotational arm type
of robotic wheelchair. For now, the robotic wheelchair is operated in
an open mode to climb winding stairs by a dynamic turning, therefore,
the dynamics model is required to ensure a passenger-s safety.
Equations of motion based on the skid-steering analysis are developed
for the trajectory planning and motion analysis on climbing winding
stairs. Since the robotic wheelchair must climb a winding staircase
stably, the winding trajectory becomes a constraint equation to be
followed, and the Baumgarte-s method is used to solve for the
constrained dynamics equations. Experimental results validate the
behavior of the prototype as it climbs a winding stair.
Abstract: A theoretical study of the rigidities of slabs with
circular voids oriented in the longitudinal and in the transverse
direction is discussed. Equations are presented for predicting the
bending and torsional rigidities of the voided slabs. This paper
summarizes the results of an extensive literature search and initial
review of the current methods of analyzing voided slab. The various
methods of calculating the equivalent plate parameters, which are
necessary for two-dimensional analysis, are also reviewed. Static
deflections on voided slabs are shown to be in good agreement with
proposed equation.
Abstract: Currently WWW is the first solution for scholars in
finding information. But, analyzing and interpreting this volume of
information will lead to researchers overload in pursuing their
research.
Trend detection in scientific publication retrieval systems helps
scholars to find relevant, new and popular special areas by
visualizing the trend of input topic.
However, there are few researches on trend detection in scientific
corpora while their proposed models do not appear to be suitable.
Previous works lack of an appropriate representation scheme for
research topics.
This paper describes a method that combines Semantic Web and
ontology to support advance search functions such as trend detection
in the context of scholarly Semantic Web system (SSWeb).
Abstract: This paper presents the experiment results of investigating the effects of adding various types and proportions of fibre on mechanical strength and permeability characteristics of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC), which was produced with treated coarse recycled concrete aggregate (RCA). Two types of synthetic fibres (i.e., barchip and polypropylene fibre) with various volume fractions were added to the RAC, which was calculated by the weight of the cement. The hardened RAC properties such as compressive strength, flexural strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity, water absorption and total porosity at the curing ages of 7 and 28 days were evaluated and compared with the properties of the control specimens. Results indicate that the treated coarse RCA enhances the mechanical strength and permeability properties of RAC and adding barchip fibre further optimises the results. Adding 1.2% barchip fibre has the best effect on the mechanical strength performance of the RAC.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose to study the synthesis of the
vertical dipole antenna over imperfect ground. The synthesis
implementation-s method for this type of antenna permits to
approach the appropriated radiance-s diagram. The used approach is
based on neural network. Our main contribution in this paper is the
extension of a synthesis model of this vertical dipole antenna over
imperfect ground.

The paper identifies problem in current approach of component modeling and proposes fuzzy tool, which will work with vague customer requirements and propose components of the resulting component model. The proposed tool is verified on specific information system and results are shown in paper. After finding suitable sub-components of the resulting component model, the component model is visualised by tool.
Abstract: The realization of current-mode quadrature oscillators
using current controlled current conveyor transconductance
amplifiers (CCCCTAs) and grounded capacitors is presented. The
proposed oscillators can provide 2 sinusoidal output currents with 90º
phase difference. It is enabled non-interactive dual-current control for
both the condition of oscillation and the frequency of oscillation.
High output impedances of the configurations enable the circuit to be
cascaded without additional current buffers. The use of only
grounded capacitors is ideal for integration. The circuit performances
are depicted through PSpice simulations, they show good agreement
to theoretical anticipation.
Abstract: Privacy issues commonly discussed among
researchers, practitioners, and end-users in pervasive healthcare.
Pervasive healthcare systems are applications that can support
patient-s need anytime and anywhere. However, pervasive healthcare
raises privacy concerns since it can lead to situations where patients
may not be aware that their private information is being shared and
becomes vulnerable to threat. We have systematically analyzed the
privacy issues and present a summary in tabular form to show the
relationship among the issues. The six issues identified are medical
information misuse, prescription leakage, medical information
eavesdropping, social implications for the patient, patient difficulties
in managing privacy settings, and lack of support in designing
privacy-sensitive applications. We narrow down the issues and chose
to focus on the issue of 'lack of support in designing privacysensitive
applications' by proposing a privacy-sensitive architecture
specifically designed for pervasive healthcare monitoring systems.
Abstract: Model Predictive Control (MPC) is an established control
technique in a wide range of process industries. The reason for
this success is its ability to handle multivariable systems and systems
having input, output or state constraints. Neverthless comparing to
PID controller, the implementation of the MPC in miniaturized
devices like Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) and microcontrollers
has historically been very small scale due to its complexity in
implementation and its computation time requirement. At the same
time, such embedded technologies have become an enabler for future
manufacturing enterprisers as well as a transformer of organizations
and markets. In this work, we take advantage of these recent advances
in this area in the deployment of one of the most studied and applied
control technique in the industrial engineering. In this paper, we
propose an efficient firmware for the implementation of constrained
MPC in the performed STM32 microcontroller using interior point
method. Indeed, performances study shows good execution speed
and low computational burden. These results encourage to develop
predictive control algorithms to be programmed in industrial standard
processes. The PID anti windup controller was also implemented in
the STM32 in order to make a performance comparison with the
MPC. The main features of the proposed constrained MPC framework
are illustrated through two examples.
