Abstract: The brand storytelling themes and emotional appeals of three major global brands were analysed by means of visual rhetoric in a digital environment focusing on the ethos communication technique. A well-known framework of five basic brand personality dimensions was used to delineate the analysis. Brand storytelling as a branding technique is becoming increasingly popular, especially since all brands can tell a story to connect and engage with consumers on an emotional level. Social media have changed the way in which brand stories are shared with online consumers, while social video networking sites in particular create an opportunity to share brand stories with a much greater target audience through electronic word of mouth (eWOM). The findings not only confirm three dimensions in the traditional brand personality framework, but can also serve as a heuristic tool for other researchers analyzing brand storytelling in a social video sharing network environment.
Abstract: The present paper studies a structure consisting of a periodic metallic grating, coated on a dielectric spacer atop an opaque metal substrate, using coherent thermal emission source in the infrared region. It has been theoretically demonstrated that by exciting surface magnetic polaritons between metallic gratings and an opaque metallic film, separated by a dielectric spacer, large emissivity peaks are almost independent of the emission angle and they can be achieved at the resonance frequencies. The reflectance spectrum of the proposed structure shows two resonances dip, which leads to a sharp emissivity peak. The relations of the reflection and absorption properties and the influence of geometric parameters on the radiative properties are investigated by rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA). The proposed structure can be easily constructed, using micro/nanofabrication and can be used as the coherent thermal emission source.
Abstract: Triticale is a manmade hybrid of wheat and rye that carries the A and B genome of durum wheat and the R genome of rye. In the scientific literature information about in Latvia harvested organic and conventional triticale grain physically-chemical composition was not found in general. Therefore, the main purpose of the current research was to investigate physically-chemical parameters of in Latvia harvested organic and convectional triticale grains. The research was accomplished on in Year 2012 from State Priekuli Plant Breeding Institute (Latvia) harvested organic and conventional triticale grains: “Dinaro”, “9403-97”, “9405-23” and “9402-3”. In the present research significant differences in chemical composition between organic and conventional triticale grains harvested in Latvia was found. It is necessary to mention that higher 1000 grain weight, bulk density and gluten index was obtained for conventional and organic triticale grain variety “9403-97”. However higher falling number, gluten and protein content was obtained for triticale grain variety “9405-23”.
Abstract: The Maximum entropy principle in spectral analysis
was used as an estimator of Direction of Arrival (DoA) of
electromagnetic or acoustic sources impinging on an array of sensors,
indeed the maximum entropy operator is very efficient when the
signals of the radiating sources are ergodic and complex zero mean
random processes which is the case for cosmic sources. In this paper,
we present basic review of the maximum entropy method (MEM)
which consists of rank one operator but not a projector, and we
elaborate a new operator which is full rank and sum of all possible
projectors. Two dimensional Simulation results based on Monte
Carlo trials prove the resolution power of the new operator where the
MEM presents some erroneous fluctuations.
Abstract: Chitosan is a derivative of chitin, a compound usually
isolated from the shells of some crustaceans such as crab, lobster and
shrimp. It has biocompatible, biodegradable, and antimicrobial
properties. To use these properties of chitosan in biomedical fields,
chitosan films (1%, 2%, 3% and 4%) were prepared by using l%
lactic acid as solvent. The effects of chitosan films on tensile
strength, elongation at break, degree of swelling, thickness,
morphology, allergic and irritation reactions and antibacterial
property were evaluated. Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli
were used as tested microorganisms. In vivo wound healing activities
of chitosan films were investigated using mice model. As results,
Chitosan films have similar appearance and good swelling properties
and 4% chitosan film showed the better swelling activity and the
greatest elongation ratio than the other chitosan films. They also
showed their good activity of wound healing in mice model.
Moreover, the results showed that the films did not produce any
unwilling symptoms (allergy or irritation). In conclusion, it is evident
that the chitosan film has the potentiality to use as wound healing
biofilms in the biomedical fields.
Abstract: Real time non-invasive Brain Computer Interfaces have a significant progressive role in restoring or maintaining a quality life for medically challenged people. This manuscript provides a comprehensive review of emerging research in the field of cognitive/affective computing in context of human neural responses. The perspectives of different emotion assessment modalities like face expressions, speech, text, gestures, and human physiological responses have also been discussed. Focus has been paid to explore the ability of EEG (Electroencephalogram) signals to portray thoughts, feelings, and unspoken words. An automated workflow-based protocol to design an EEG-based real time Brain Computer Interface system for analysis and classification of human emotions elicited by external audio/visual stimuli has been proposed. The front end hardware includes a cost effective and portable Emotiv EEG Neuroheadset unit, a personal computer and a set of external stimulators. Primary signal analysis and processing of real time acquired EEG shall be performed using MATLAB based advanced brain mapping toolbox EEGLab/BCILab. This shall be followed by the development of MATLAB based self-defined algorithm to capture and characterize temporal and spectral variations in EEG under emotional stimulations. The extracted hybrid feature set shall be used to classify emotional states using artificial intelligence tools like Artificial Neural Network. The final system would result in an inexpensive, portable and more intuitive Brain Computer Interface in real time scenario to control prosthetic devices by translating different brain states into operative control signals.
Abstract: Haemodialysis (HD) is a procedure saving patient lives around the world, unfortunately it brings numerous complications. Oxidative stress is one of the major factors which lead to erythrocytes destruction during extracorporeal circulation. Repeated HD procedures destroy blood elements and the organism is not able to keep up with their production. 30 HD procedures on healthy sheep were performed to evaluate effects of such treatment. Oxidative stress study was performed together with an analysis of basic blood parameters and empirical assessment of dialyzer condition after the procedure. A reversible decline in absolute leukocyte count, during first 30 min of HD, was observed. Blood clots were formed in the area of the blood inlet and outlet of the dialyzer. Our results are consistent with outcomes presented throughout the literature specifically with respect to the effects observed in humans and will provide a basis to evaluate methods for blood protection during haemodialysis.
Abstract: Severe damages may occur during the drilling of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP). In practice, this damage is limited by adding a backup support to the drilled parts. For some aeronautical parts with curvatures, backing up parts is a demanding process. In order to simplify the operation, this research studies the effect of using a configurable setup to support parts on the resulting quality of drilled holes. The test coupons referenced in this study are twenty four-plies unidirectional laminates made of carbon fibers and epoxy resin. Different signals were measured during the drilling process for these laminates, including the thrust force, the displacement and the acceleration. The processing of these signals demonstrated that the damage is due to the combination of two main factors: the spring-back of the thin part and the thrust force. The results found were confirmed for different feeds and speeds. When the distance between supports is increased, it is observed that the spring-back increases but the thrust force decreases. The study proves the feasibility of unsupported drilling of thin CFRP laminates without creating any observable damage.
Abstract: In recent year, with recent increase of interest towards leisure sports, increased number of Zip-Line or Zip-Wire facilities has built. Many researches have been actively conducted on the emphasis of the cable and the wire at the bridge. However, very limited researches have been conducted on the safety of the Zip-Line structure. In fact, fall accidents from Zip-Line have been reported frequently. Therefore, in this study, the structural safety of Zip-Line under dynamic impact loading condition were evaluated on the previously installed steel cable for leisure (Zip-Line), using 3-dimensional nonlinear Finite Element (FE) model. The result from current study would assist assurance of systematic stability of Zip-Line.
Abstract: This paper deals with design of walking beam pendel
axle suspension system. This axles and suspension systems are
mainly required for transportation of heavy duty and Over Dimension
Consignment (ODC) cargo, which is exceeding legal limit in terms of
length, width and height. Presently, in Indian transportation industry,
ODC movement growth rate has increased in transportation of bridge
sections (pre-cast beams), transformers, heavy machineries, boilers,
gas turbines, windmill blades etc. However, current Indian standard
road transport vehicles are facing lot of service and maintenance
issues due to non availability of suitable axle and suspension to carry
the ODC cargoes. This in turn will lead to increased number of road
accidents, bridge collapse and delayed deliveries, which finally result
in higher operating cost. Understanding these requirements, this work
was carried out. These axles and suspensions are designed for
optimum self – weight with maximum payload carrying capacity with
better road stability.
Abstract: Transesterification reactions free of catalyst between
roasted chicken fat with methanol were carried out in a batch reactor
in order to produce biodiesel to temperatures from 120°C to 140°C.
Parameters related to the transesterification reactions, including
temperature, time and the molar ratio of chicken fat to methanol also
investigated. The maximum yield of the reaction was of 98% under
conditions of 140°C, 4 h of reaction time and a molar ratio of chicken
fat to methanol of 1:31. The biodiesel thus obtained exhibited a
viscosity of 6.3 mm2/s and a density of 895.9 kg/m3. The results
showed this process can be right choice to produce biodiesel since
this process does not use any catalyst. Therefore, the steps of
neutralization and washing are avoided, indispensables in the case of
the alkaline catalysis.
Abstract: Estimation of the magnitude and causes of poisoning
was the objective of the current study. A retrospective study of
medical records of all poisoning children admitted to Benghazi
Children Hospital in Libya from January 2008 up to December 2010.
Number of children admitted was 244; the age ranged from less than
one to 13 years old. Most of cases were admitted with mild symptom
and the majority of them were boys. Only few cases admitted to
intensive care unit and there was no mortality recorded through the
period of study. Age group 1 to 3 years (50.8%) had the highest
frequency of admission and the peak of admission was during
summer. The most common cause of admission was due to ingestion
of medication (53.69%), House hold product exposure (26.64%) was
the second causes of admission while, 19.67% of admissions were
due to Food poisoning. Almost all admitted cases were accidental and
medicines were the most consumed substances in addition, improper
storage of toxic agents were the first risk factor of poisoning. Present
results indicated that, children poisoning seems to be a common
pediatric care problem which need to control and prevent.
Abstract: Localization and Recognition of License registration characters from the moving vehicle is a computationally complex task in the field of machine vision and is of substantial interest because of its diverse applications such as cross border security, law enforcement and various other intelligent transportation applications. Previous research used the plate specific details such as aspect ratio, character style, color or dimensions of the plate in the complex task of plate localization. In this paper, license registration character is localized by Enhanced Weight based density map (EWBDM) method, which is independent of such constraints. In connection with our previous method, this paper proposes a method that relaxes constraints in lighting conditions, different fonts of character occurred in the plate and plates with hand-drawn characters in various aspect quotients. The robustness of this method is well suited for applications where the appearance of plates seems to be varied widely. Experimental results show that this approach is suited for recognizing license plates in different external environments.
Abstract: Rain attenuation plays a lot of roles in the design of satellite and terrestrial microwave radio links, hence a good knowledge of its effect is of great interest to Engineers and scientists in that it is often required to give a high level of accuracy of the rainrate distribution that expresses rainrate from the lowest value to the highest. This study proposes a model to express rainrate parameters alpha (α) and beta (β) as a function of geographical location at 0.01% of the time. The tropical locations used in the development of the effect were Ilorin, Ile-Ife, Douala, Dar-es-Selam, Nairobi, Lusaka, and Brazilia.
This expression clearly confirms the variability of rainfall from place to place. When consistency test was carried out using the expression to generate rainrate for each location examined, the result obtained was reliable for rain intensities between 5mm/h and 200mm/h. The variability of α and β with latitude also shows that different latitudes have different cumulative rain distribution. The model proposed in this study would be one of the useful tools to Radio Engineers since the precipitation effect in the design of satellite and terrestrial microwave radio links is among the factors to consider when designing communication systems.

Abstract: Travel Demands influence micro-level traffic behavior,
furthermore traffic states. In order to evaluate the effect of travel
demands on traffic states, this paper introduces the Demand-
Motivation-Behaviors (DMB) micro traffic behavior analysis model
which denotes that vehicles behaviors are determines by motivations
that relies on traffic demands from the perspective of behavior
science. For vehicles, there are two kinds of travel demands: reaching
travel destinations from orientations and meeting expectations of
travel speed. To satisfy travel demands, the micro traffic behaviors are
delivered such as car following behavior, optional and mandatory lane
changing behaviors. Especially, mandatory lane changing behaviors
depending on travel demands take strong impact on traffic states.
In this paper, we define the DMB-based cellular automate traffic
simulation model to evaluate the effect of travel demands on traffic
states under the different δ values that reflect the ratio of mandatory
lane-change vehicles.

Abstract: The present study represents the occupational radiation doses received by selected workers of Nuclear Institute of Medicine and Radiotherapy (NIMRA) Jamshoro Pakistan and conducted to discuss about how we be careful and try to avoid make ourselves overconscious. Film badges with unique identification number were issued to radiation worker to detect occupational radiation doses. In this study, only 08 workers with high radiation doses were assessed amongst 35 radiation workers during the period of January 2012 to December 2012. The selected radiation workers’ occupational doses were according to designated work areas and in the range of 1.21 to 7.78 mSv (mili Sieveret) out of the annual dose limit of 20 mSv. By the comparison of different studies and earth’s HNBR (High Natural Background Radiation) locations’ doses, it is concluded that the worker’s high doses are of magnitude of HNBR Regions and were in the acceptable range of National and International regulatory bodies so we must not to show any type of overconsciousness but be careful in handling the radioactive sources.
Abstract: In this article, we propose a new approximate procedure
based on He’s variational iteration method for solving nonlinear
hyperbolic equations. We introduce two transformations q = ut and
σ = ux and formulate a first-order system of equations. We can
obtain the approximation solution for the scalar unknown u, time
derivative q = ut and space derivative σ = ux, simultaneously.
Finally, some examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of
our method.
