Abstract: Groundlessness of application probability-statistic methods are especially shown at an early stage of the aviation GTE technical condition diagnosing, when the volume of the information has property of the fuzzy, limitations, uncertainty and efficiency of application of new technology Soft computing at these diagnosing stages by using the fuzzy logic and neural networks methods. It is made training with high accuracy of multiple linear and nonlinear models (the regression equations) received on the statistical fuzzy data basis. At the information sufficiency it is offered to use recurrent algorithm of aviation GTE technical condition identification on measurements of input and output parameters of the multiple linear and nonlinear generalized models at presence of noise measured (the new recursive least squares method (LSM)). As application of the given technique the estimation of the new operating aviation engine D30KU-154 technical condition at height H=10600 m was made.
Abstract: The tree structured approach of non-uniform filterbank
(NUFB) is normally used in perfect reconstruction (PR). The PR is
not always feasible due to certain limitations, i.e, constraints in
selecting design parameters, design complexity and some times
output is severely affected by aliasing error if necessary and
sufficient conditions of PR is not satisfied perfectly. Therefore, there
has been generalized interest of researchers to go for near perfect
reconstruction (NPR). In this proposed work, an optimized tree
structure technique is used for the design of NPR non-uniform
filterbank. Window functions of Blackman family are used to design
the prototype FIR filter. A single variable linear optimization is used
to minimize the amplitude distortion. The main feature of the
proposed design is its simplicity with linear phase property.
Abstract: Hazardous Material transportation by road is coupled
with inherent risk of accidents causing loss of lives, grievous injuries,
property losses and environmental damages. The most common type
of hazmat road accident happens to be the releases (78%) of
hazardous substances, followed by fires (28%), explosions (14%) and
vapour/ gas clouds (6 %.).
The paper is discussing initially the probable 'Impact Zones'
likely to be caused by one flammable (LPG) and one toxic (ethylene
oxide) chemicals being transported through a sizable segment of a
State Highway connecting three notified Industrial zones in Surat
district in Western India housing 26 MAH industrial units. Three
'hotspots' were identified along the highway segment depending on
the particular chemical traffic and the population distribution within
500 meters on either sides. The thermal radiation and explosion
overpressure have been calculated for LPG / Ethylene Oxide BLEVE
scenarios along with toxic release scenario for ethylene oxide.
Besides, the dispersion calculations for ethylene oxide toxic release
have been made for each 'hotspot' location and the impact zones
have been mapped for the LOC concentrations. Subsequently, the
maximum Initial Isolation and the protective zones were calculated
based on ERPG-3 and ERPG-2 values of ethylene oxide respectively
which are estimated taking the worst case scenario under worst
weather conditions. The data analysis will be helpful to the local
administration in capacity building with respect to rescue /
evacuation and medical preparedness and quantitative inputs to
augment the District Offsite Emergency Plan document.
Abstract: Image convolution similar to the receptive fields
found in mammalian visual pathways has long been used in
conventional image processing in the form of Gabor masks.
However, no VLSI implementation of parallel, multi-layered pulsed
processing has been brought forward which would emulate this
property. We present a technical realization of such a pulsed image
processing scheme. The discussed IC also serves as a general testbed
for VLSI-based pulsed information processing, which is of interest
especially with regard to the robustness of representing an analog
signal in the phase or duration of a pulsed, quasi-digital signal, as
well as the possibility of direct digital manipulation of such an
analog signal. The network connectivity and processing properties
are reconfigurable so as to allow adaptation to various processing
tasks.
Abstract: In this paper, the signal transmission analysis of the
semicircle-shaped via structure for the differential pairs is presented in
the frequency range up to 10 GHz. In order to improve the signal
transmission properties in the differential pairs, single via is separated
centrally into two semicircle-shaped sections, which are
interconnected with the traces of differential pairs respectively. This
via structure make possible to route differential pairs using only one
via. In addition, it can improve impedance discontinuity around its
region and then enhance the signal transmission properties in the
differential pairs. The electrical analysis such as S-parameter
calculation and eye diagram simulation has been performed to
investigate the improvement of the signal transmission property in the
differential pairs with new via structure.
Abstract: In this research, we propose to use the discrete cosine
transform to approximate the cumulative distributions of data cube
cells- values. The cosine transform is known to have a good energy
compaction property and thus can approximate data distribution
functions easily with small number of coefficients. The derived
estimator is accurate and easy to update. We perform experiments to
compare its performance with a well-known technique - the (Haar)
wavelet. The experimental results show that the cosine transform
performs much better than the wavelet in estimation accuracy, speed,
space efficiency, and update easiness.
Abstract: The structural stability of the model of a nonelectroneutral current sheath is investigated. The stationary model of a current sheath represents the system of four connected nonlinear differential first-order equations and thus they should manifest structural instability property, i.e. sensitivity to the infinitesimal changes of parameters and starting conditions. Domains of existence of the solutions of current sheath type are found. Those solutions of the current sheath type are realized only in some regions of sevendimensional space of parameters of the problem. The phase volume of those regions is small in comparison with the whole phase volume of the definition range of those parameters. It is shown that the offered model of a nonelectroneutral current sheath is applicable for theoretical interpretation of the bifurcational current sheaths observed in the magnetosphere.
Abstract: Saturated hydraulic conductivity of Soil is an
important property in processes involving water and solute flow in
soils. Saturated hydraulic conductivity of soil is difficult to measure
and can be highly variable, requiring a large number of replicate
samples. In this study, 60 sets of soil samples were collected at
Saqhez region of Kurdistan province-IRAN. The statistics such as
Correlation Coefficient (R), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean
Bias Error (MBE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE) were used to
evaluation the multiple linear regression models varied with number
of dataset. In this study the multiple linear regression models were
evaluated when only percentage of sand, silt, and clay content (SSC)
were used as inputs, and when SSC and bulk density, Bd, (SSC+Bd)
were used as inputs. The R, RMSE, MBE and MAE values of the 50
dataset for method (SSC), were calculated 0.925, 15.29, -1.03 and
12.51 and for method (SSC+Bd), were calculated 0.927, 15.28,-1.11
and 12.92, respectively, for relationship obtained from multiple
linear regressions on data. Also the R, RMSE, MBE and MAE values
of the 10 dataset for method (SSC), were calculated 0.725, 19.62, -
9.87 and 18.91 and for method (SSC+Bd), were calculated 0.618,
24.69, -17.37 and 22.16, respectively, which shows when number of
dataset increase, precision of estimated saturated hydraulic
conductivity, increases.
Abstract: We consider the development of an eight order Adam-s
type method, with A-stability property discussed by expressing them
as a one-step method in higher dimension. This makes it suitable
for solving variety of initial-value problems. The main method and
additional methods are obtained from the same continuous scheme
derived via interpolation and collocation procedures. The methods
are then applied in block form as simultaneous numerical integrators
over non-overlapping intervals. Numerical results obtained using the
proposed block form reveals that it is highly competitive with existing
methods in the literature.
Abstract: In today-s competitive environment, the security concerns have grown tremendously. In the modern world, possession is known to be 9/10-ths of the law. Hence, it is imperative for one to be able to safeguard one-s property from worldly harms such as thefts, destruction of property, people with malicious intent etc. Due to the advent of technology in the modern world, the methodologies used by thieves and robbers for stealing have been improving exponentially. Therefore, it is necessary for the surveillance techniques to also improve with the changing world. With the improvement in mass media and various forms of communication, it is now possible to monitor and control the environment to the advantage of the owners of the property. The latest technologies used in the fight against thefts and destruction are the video surveillance and monitoring. By using the technologies, it is possible to monitor and capture every inch and second of the area in interest. However, so far the technologies used are passive in nature, i.e., the monitoring systems only help in detecting the crime but do not actively participate in stopping or curbing the crime while it takes place. Therefore, we have developed a methodology to detect the motion in a video stream environment and this is an idea to ensure that the monitoring systems not only actively participate in stopping the crime, but do so while the crime is taking place. Hence, a system is used to detect any motion in a live streaming video and once motion has been detected in the live stream, the software will activate a warning system and capture the live streaming video.
Abstract: In the present communication, we have proposed
some new generalized measure of fuzzy entropy based upon real
parameters, discussed their and desirable properties, and presented
these measures graphically. An important property, that is,
monotonicity of the proposed measures has also been studied.
Abstract: This paper presents the experimental results of
discharge current phenomena on various humidity, temperature,
pressure and pollutant conditions of epoxy resin specimen. The
leakage distance of specimen was 3 cm, that it was supplied by high
voltage. The polluted condition was given with NaCl artificial
pollutant. The conducted measurements were discharge current and
applied voltage. The specimen was put in a hermetically sealed
chamber, and the current waveforms were analyzed with FFT.
The result indicated that on discharge condition, the fifth
harmonics still had dominant, rather than third one. The third
harmonics tent to be appeared on low pressure heavily polluted
condition, and followed by high humidity heavily polluted condition.
On the heavily polluted specimen, the peaks discharge current points
would be high and more frequent. Nevertheless, the specimen still
had capacitive property. Besides that, usually discharge current
points were more frequent. The influence of low pressure was still
dominant to be easier to discharge. The non-linear property would be
appear explicitly on low pressure and heavily polluted condition.
Abstract: A cancelable palmprint authentication system
proposed in this paper is specifically designed to overcome the
limitations of the contemporary biometric authentication system. In
this proposed system, Geometric and pseudo Zernike moments are
employed as feature extractors to transform palmprint image into a
lower dimensional compact feature representation. Before moment
computation, wavelet transform is adopted to decompose palmprint
image into lower resolution and dimensional frequency subbands.
This reduces the computational load of moment calculation
drastically. The generated wavelet-moment based feature
representation is used to generate cancelable verification key with a
set of random data. This private binary key can be canceled and
replaced. Besides that, this key also possesses high data capture
offset tolerance, with highly correlated bit strings for intra-class
population. This property allows a clear separation of the genuine
and imposter populations, as well as zero Equal Error Rate
achievement, which is hardly gained in the conventional biometric
based authentication system.
Abstract: The temporal nature of negative selection is an under exploited area. In a negative selection system, newly generated antibodies go through a maturing phase, and the survivors of the phase then wait to be activated by the incoming antigens after certain number of matches. These without having enough matches will age and die, while these with enough matches (i.e., being activated) will become active detectors. A currently active detector may also age and die if it cannot find any match in a pre-defined (lengthy) period of time. Therefore, what matters in a negative selection system is the dynamics of the involved parties in the current time window, not the whole time duration, which may be up to eternity. This property has the potential to define the uniqueness of negative selection in comparison with the other approaches. On the other hand, a negative selection system is only trained with “normal" data samples. It has to learn and discover unknown “abnormal" data patterns on the fly by itself. Consequently, it is more appreciate to utilize negation selection as a system for pattern discovery and recognition rather than just pattern recognition. In this paper, we study the potential of using negative selection in discovering unknown temporal patterns.
Abstract: The group mutual exclusion (GME) problem is a
variant of the mutual exclusion problem. In the present paper a
token-based group mutual exclusion algorithm, capable of handling
transient faults, is proposed. The algorithm uses the concept of
dynamic request sets. A time out mechanism is used to detect the
token loss; also, a distributed scheme is used to regenerate the token.
The worst case message complexity of the algorithm is n+1. The
maximum concurrency and forum switch complexity of the
algorithm are n and min (n, m) respectively, where n is the number of
processes and m is the number of groups. The algorithm also satisfies
another desirable property called smooth admission. The scheme can
also be adapted to handle the extended group mutual exclusion
problem.
Abstract: A new generation product made from bamboo strips,
known as laminated bamboo, has gained importance. The objective
of this research was to experiment the effect of three factors on the
mechanical property of laminated bamboo. The interested factors for
experimental design were (A) four bamboo species, namely Bambusa
blumeana Schultes (Pai See Suk), Dendrocalamus asper Backer (Pai
Tong), Dendrocalamus hamiltonii Nees (Pai Hok) and
Dendrocalamus sericeus Munro (Pai Sang Mon), (B) two types of
glue adhesive, polyvinyl acetate emulsion (PVAC) fortified with
urea-formaldehyde (UF) and urea-formaldehyde (UF) to make
parallel-oriented bamboo strips laminates and (C) glue weight per
strip area, 150 g/m2 and 190 g/m2. Experimental results showed that
Dendrocalamus asper Backer (Pai Tong) and Dendrocalamus
sericeus Munro (Pai Sang Mon) were best used for manufacturing
due to their highest MOR and MOE. The amount of glue weight 150
g/m2 yielded higher MOR and MOE than the amount of glue weight
190 g/m2. At the conclusion, the laminated bamboo manufacturers
can benefit from this research in order to select right materials
according to strength, cost and accessibility.
Abstract: Background noise is particularly damaging to speech
intelligibility for people with hearing loss especially for sensorineural
loss patients. Several investigations on speech intelligibility have
demonstrated sensorineural loss patients need 5-15 dB higher SNR
than the normal hearing subjects. This paper describes Discrete
Cosine Transform Power Normalized Least Mean Square algorithm
to improve the SNR and to reduce the convergence rate of the LMS
for Sensory neural loss patients. Since it requires only real arithmetic,
it establishes the faster convergence rate as compare to time domain
LMS and also this transformation improves the eigenvalue
distribution of the input autocorrelation matrix of the LMS filter.
The DCT has good ortho-normal, separable, and energy compaction
property. Although the DCT does not separate frequencies, it is a
powerful signal decorrelator. It is a real valued function and thus
can be effectively used in real-time operation. The advantages of
DCT-LMS as compared to standard LMS algorithm are shown via
SNR and eigenvalue ratio computations. . Exploiting the symmetry
of the basis functions, the DCT transform matrix [AN] can be
factored into a series of ±1 butterflies and rotation angles. This
factorization results in one of the fastest DCT implementation. There
are different ways to obtain factorizations. This work uses the fast
factored DCT algorithm developed by Chen and company. The
computer simulations results show superior convergence
characteristics of the proposed algorithm by improving the SNR at
least 10 dB for input SNR less than and equal to 0 dB, faster
convergence speed and better time and frequency characteristics.
Abstract: Alkali treated oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) fibres
(TEFBF) and untreated EFBF fibers (UEFBF) were incorporated in
polypropylene (PP) with and without malic anhydride grafted PP
(MAPP) and magnesium hydroxide as flame retardant (FR) to
produce TEFBF-PP and UEFBF-PP composites by the melt casting
method. The composites were characterized by mechanical and
burning tests along with a scanning electron microscope and Fourier
transform infrared spectroscopy. The significant improvement in
flexural modulus (133%) and flame retardant property (60%) of
TEFBF-PP composite with MAPP and FR is observed. The improved
mechanical property is discussed by the development of encapsulated
textures.
Abstract: Earlier studies in kinship networks have primarily
focused on observing the social relationships existing between family
relatives. In this study, we pre-identified hubs in the network to
investigate if they could play a catalyst role in the transfer of physical
information. We conducted a case study of a ceremony performed in
one of the families of a small Hindu community – the Uttar Rarhi
Kayasthas. Individuals (n = 168) who resided in 11 geographically
dispersed regions were contacted through our hub-based
representation. We found that using this representation, over 98% of
the individuals were successfully contacted within the stipulated
period. The network also demonstrated a small-world property, with
an average geodesic distance of 3.56.
Abstract: Vehicle which are turning or maneuvering at high speeds
are susceptible to sliding and subsequently deviate from desired path. In
this paper the dynamics governing the Yaw/Roll behavior of a vehicle
has been simulated. Two different simulations have been used one for
the real vehicle, for which a fuzzy controller is designed to increase its
directional stability property. The other simulation is for a hypothetical
vehicle with much higher tire cornering stiffness which is capable of
developing the required lateral forces at the tire-ground patch contact to
attain the desired lateral acceleration for the vehicle to follow the
desired path without slippage. This simulation model is our reference
model.
The logic for keeping the vehicle on the desired track in the cornering
or maneuvering state is to have some braking forces on the inner or
outer tires based on the direction of vehicle deviation from the desired
path. The inputs to our vehicle simulation model is steer angle δ and
vehicle velocity V , and the outputs can be any kinematical parameters
like yaw rate, yaw acceleration, side slip angle, rate of side slip angle
and so on. The proposed fuzzy controller is a feed forward controller.
This controller has two inputs which are steer angle δ and vehicle
velocity V, and the output of the controller is the correcting moment M,
which guides the vehicle back to the desired track. To develop the
membership functions for the controller inputs and output and the fuzzy
rules, the vehicle simulation has been run for 1000 times and the
correcting moment have been determined by trial and error. Results of
the vehicle simulation with fuzzy controller are very promising
and show the vehicle performance is enhanced greatly over the
vehicle without the controller. In fact the vehicle performance
with the controller is very near the performance of the reference
ideal model.
