Abstract: With the advent of social web initiatives, some argued
that these new emerging tools might be useful in tacit knowledge
sharing through providing interactive and collaborative technologies.
However, there is still a poverty of literature to understand how and
what might be the contributions of social media in facilitating tacit
knowledge sharing. Therefore, this paper is intended to theoretically
investigate and map social media concepts and characteristics with
tacit knowledge creation and sharing requirements. By conducting a
systematic literature review, five major requirements found that need
to be present in an environment that involves tacit knowledge
sharing. These requirements have been analyzed against social media
concepts and characteristics to see how they map together. The
results showed that social media have abilities to comply some of the
main requirements of tacit knowledge sharing. The relationships have
been illustrated in a conceptual framework, suggesting further
empirical studies to acknowledge findings of this study.
Abstract: Some believe that stigma is the worst side effect of the
people who have mental illness. Mental illness researchers have
focused on the influence of mass media on the stigmatization of the
people with mental illness. However, no studies have investigated the
effects of the interactive media, such as blogs, on the stigmatization
of mentally ill people, even though the media have a significant
influence on people in all areas of life. The purpose of this study is to
investigate the use of interactivity in destigmatization of the mentally
ill and the moderating effect of self-construal (independent versus
interdependent self-construal) on the relation between interactivity
and destigmatization. The findings suggested that people in the
human-human interaction condition had less social distance toward
people with mental illness. Additionally, participants with higher
independence showed more favorable affection and less social
distance toward mentally ill people. Finally, direct contact with
mentally ill people increased a person-s positive affect toward people
with mental illness. The current study should provide insights for
mental health practitioners by suggesting how they can use
interactive media to approach the public that stigmatizes the mentally
ill.
Abstract: E-learning refers to the specific kind of learning
experienced within the domain of educational technology, which can
be used in or out of the classroom. In this paper, we give an
overview of an e-learning platform 'An Innovative Interactive and
Online English Platform for Upper Primary Students' is an
interactive web-based application which will serve as an aid to the
primary school students in Mauritius. The objectives of this platform
are to offer quality learning resources for the English subject at our
primary level of education, encourage self-learning and hence
promote e-learning. The platform developed consists of several
interesting features, for example, the English Verb Conjugation tool,
Negative Form tool, Interrogative Form tool and Close Test
Generator. Thus, this learning platform will be useful at a time
where our country is looking for an alternative to private tuition and
also, looking forward to increase the pass rate.
Abstract: In this paper multivariable predictive PID controller has
been implemented on a multi-inputs multi-outputs control problem
i.e., quadruple tank system, in comparison with a simple multiloop
PI controller. One of the salient feature of this system is an
adjustable transmission zero which can be adjust to operate in both
minimum and non-minimum phase configuration, through the flow
distribution to upper and lower tanks in quadruple tank system.
Stability and performance analysis has also been carried out for this
highly interactive two input two output system, both in minimum
and non-minimum phases. Simulations of control system revealed
that better performance are obtained in predictive PID design.
Abstract: This paper presents a complete procedure for tool path
planning and blade machining in 5-axis manufacturing. The actual
cutting contact and cutter locations can be determined by lead and tilt
angles. The tool path generation is implemented by piecewise curved
approximation and chordal deviation detection. An application about
drive surface method promotes flexibility of tool control and stability
of machine motion. A real manufacturing process is proposed to
separate the operation into three regions with five stages and to modify
the local tool orientation with an interactive algorithm.
Abstract: Delivering course material via a virtual environment
is beneficial to today-s students because it offers the interactivity,
real-time interaction and social presence that students of all ages
have come to accept in our gaming rich community. It is essential
that the Net Generation also known as Generation Why, have
exposure to learning communities that encompass interactivity to
form social and educational connections. As student and professor
become interconnected through collaboration and interaction in a
virtual learning space, relationships develop and students begin to
take on an individual identity. With this in mind the research project
was developed to investigate the use of virtual environments on
student satisfaction and the effectiveness of course delivery.
Furthermore, the project was designed to integrate both interactive
(real-time) classes conducted in the Virtual Reality (VR)
environment while also creating archived VR sessions for student use
in retaining and reviewing course content.
Abstract: Real-time 3D applications have to guarantee
interactive rendering speed. There is a restriction for the number of
polygons which is rendered due to performance of a graphics hardware
or graphics algorithms. Generally, the rendering performance will be
drastically increased when handling only the dynamic 3d models,
which is much fewer than the static ones. Since shapes and colors of
the static objects don-t change when the viewing direction is fixed, the
information can be reused. We render huge amounts of polygon those
cannot handled by conventional rendering techniques in real-time by
using a static object image and merging it with rendering result of the
dynamic objects. The performance must be decreased as a
consequence of updating the static object image including removing
an static object that starts to move, re-rending the other static objects
being overlapped by the moving ones. Based on visibility of the object
beginning to move, we can skip the updating process. As a result, we
enhance rendering performance and reduce differences of rendering
speed between each frame. Proposed method renders total
200,000,000 polygons that consist of 500,000 dynamic polygons and
the rest are static polygons in about 100 frames per second.
Abstract: A geothermal power plant multiple simulator for
operators training is presented. The simulator is designed to be
installed in a wireless local area network and has a capacity to train
one to six operators simultaneously, each one with an independent
simulation session. The sessions must be supervised only by one
instructor. The main parts of this multiple simulator are: instructor
and operator-s stations. On the instructor station, the instructor
controls the simulation sessions, establishes training exercises and
supervises each power plant operator in individual way. This station
is hosted in a Main Personal Computer (NS) and its main functions
are: to set initial conditions, snapshots, malfunctions or faults,
monitoring trends, and process and soft-panel diagrams. On the other
hand the operators carry out their actions over the power plant
simulated on the operator-s stations; each one is also hosted in a PC.
The main software of instructor and operator-s stations are executed
on the same NS and displayed in PCs through graphical Interactive
Process Diagrams (IDP). The geothermal multiple simulator has been
installed in the Geothermal Simulation Training Center (GSTC) of
the Comisi├│n Federal de Electricidad, (Federal Commission of
Electricity, CFE), Mexico, and is being utilized as a part of the
training courses for geothermal power plant operators.
Abstract: Sustainability in rural production system can only be achieved if it can suitably satisfy the local requirement as well as the outside demand with the changing time. With the increased pressure from the food sector in a globalised world, the agrarian economy
needs to re-organise its cultivable land system to be compatible with new management practices as well as the multiple needs of various stakeholders and the changing resource scenario. An attempt has been made to transform this problem into a multi-objective decisionmaking problem considering various objectives, resource constraints and conditional constraints. An interactive fuzzy multi-objective
programming approach has been used for such a purpose taking a
case study in Indian context to demonstrate the validity of the method.
Abstract: For the communication between human and computer
in an interactive computing environment, the gesture recognition is
studied vigorously. Therefore, a lot of studies have proposed efficient
methods about the recognition algorithm using 2D camera captured
images. However, there is a limitation to these methods, such as the
extracted features cannot fully represent the object in real world.
Although many studies used 3D features instead of 2D features for
more accurate gesture recognition, the problem, such as the processing
time to generate 3D objects, is still unsolved in related researches.
Therefore we propose a method to extract the 3D features combined
with the 3D object reconstruction. This method uses the modified
GPU-based visual hull generation algorithm which disables unnecessary
processes, such as the texture calculation to generate three kinds
of 3D projection maps as the 3D feature: a nearest boundary, a farthest
boundary, and a thickness of the object projected on the base-plane. In
the section of experimental results, we present results of proposed
method on eight human postures: T shape, both hands up, right hand
up, left hand up, hands front, stand, sit and bend, and compare the
computational time of the proposed method with that of the previous
methods.
Abstract: The realization of current-mode quadrature oscillators
using current controlled current conveyor transconductance
amplifiers (CCCCTAs) and grounded capacitors is presented. The
proposed oscillators can provide 2 sinusoidal output currents with 90º
phase difference. It is enabled non-interactive dual-current control for
both the condition of oscillation and the frequency of oscillation.
High output impedances of the configurations enable the circuit to be
cascaded without additional current buffers. The use of only
grounded capacitors is ideal for integration. The circuit performances
are depicted through PSpice simulations, they show good agreement
to theoretical anticipation.
Abstract: Jordan exerts many efforts to nurture their academically gifted students in special schools since 2001. During
the past nine years of launching these schools, their learning and excellence environments were believed to be distinguished compared
to public schools. This study investigated the environments of gifted
students compared with other non-gifted, using a survey instrument
that measures the dimensions of family, peers, teachers, school- support, society, and resources –dimensions rooted deeply in supporting gifted education, learning, and achievement. A total
number of 109 were selected from excellence schools for
academically gifted students, and 119 non-gifted students were selected from public schools. Around 8.3% of the non-gifted students
reported that they “Never" received any support from their surrounding environments, 14.9% reported “Seldom" support, 23.7% reported “ Often" support, 26.0% reported “Frequent" support, and
32.8% reported “Very frequent" support. Where the gifted students reported more “Never" support than the non-gifted did with 11.3%,
“Seldom" support with 15.4%, “Often" support with 26.6%,
“Frequent" support with 29.0%, and reported “Very frequent" support less than the non-gifted students with 23.6%. Unexpectedly,
statistical differences were found between the two groups favoring
non-gifted students in perception of their surrounding environments
in specific dimensions, namely, school- support, teachers, and society. No statistical differences were found in the other dimensions
of the survey, namely, family, peers, and resources. As the
differences were found in teachers, school- support, and society, the
nurturing environments for the excellence schools need to be revised to adopt more creative teaching styles, rich school atmosphere and
infrastructures, interactive guiding for the students and their parents, promoting for the excellence environments, and re-build successful
identification models. Thus, families, schools, and society should
increase their cooperation, communication, and awareness of the
gifted supportive environments. However, more studies to investigate
other aspects of promoting academic giftedness and excellence are recommended.
Abstract: Interactive push VOD system is a new kind of system
that incorporates push technology and interactive technique. It can
push movies to users at high speeds at off-peak hours for optimal
network usage so as to save bandwidth. This paper presents effective
software-based solution for processing mass downstream data at
terminals of interactive push VOD system, where the service can
download movie according to a viewer-s selection. The downstream
data is divided into two catalogs: (1) the carousel data delivered
according to DSM-CC protocol; (2) IP data delivered according to
Euro-DOCSIS protocol. In order to accelerate download speed and
reduce data loss rate at terminals, this software strategy introduces
caching, multi-thread and resuming mechanisms. The experiments
demonstrate advantages of the software-based solution.
Abstract: The advancement of smartphones, wireless
networking and Near Field Communication (NFC) technology have
opened up a new approach to indoor navigation. Although NFC
technology has been used to support electronic commerce, access
control, and ticketing, there is a lack of research work on building
NFC-based indoor navigation system for smartphone users. This
paper presents an indoor interactive navigation system (named
I2Navi) based on NFC technology for users to navigate within a
building with ease using their smartphones. The I2Navi system has
been implemented at the Faculty of Engineering (FOE), Multimedia
University (MMU) to enable students, parents, visitors who own
NFC-enabled Android smartphones to navigate themselves within the
faculty. An evaluation is carried out and the results show positive
response to the proposed indoor navigation system using NFC and
smartphone technologies.
Abstract: The paper presents an investigation into the role of virtual reality and web technologies in the field of distance education. Within this frame, special emphasis is given on the building of web-based virtual learning environments so as to successfully fulfill their educational objectives. In particular, basic pedagogical methods are studied, focusing mainly on the efficient preparation, approach and presentation of learning content, and specific designing rules are presented considering the hypermedia, virtual and educational nature of this kind of applications. The paper also aims to highlight the educational benefits arising from the use of virtual reality technology in medicine and study the emerging area of web-based medical simulations. Finally, an innovative virtual reality environment for distance education in medicine is demonstrated. The proposed environment reproduces conditions of the real learning process and enhances learning through a real-time interactive simulator.
Abstract: This paper investigates the performance of a speech
recognizer in an interactive voice response system for various coded
speech signals, coded by using a vector quantization technique namely
Multi Switched Split Vector Quantization Technique. The process of
recognizing the coded output can be used in Voice banking application.
The recognition technique used for the recognition of the coded speech
signals is the Hidden Markov Model technique. The spectral distortion
performance, computational complexity, and memory requirements of
Multi Switched Split Vector Quantization Technique and the
performance of the speech recognizer at various bit rates have been
computed. From results it is found that the speech recognizer is
showing better performance at 24 bits/frame and it is found that the
percentage of recognition is being varied from 100% to 93.33% for
various bit rates.
Abstract: Drying characteristics of rough rice (variety of lenjan) with an initial moisture content of 25% dry basis (db) was studied in a hot air dryer assisted by infrared heating. Three arrival air temperatures (30, 40 and 500C) and four infrared radiation intensities (0, 0.2 , 0.4 and 0.6 W/cm2) and three arrival air speeds (0.1, 0.15 and 0.2 m.s-1) were studied. Bending strength of brown rice kernel, percentage of cracked kernels and time of drying were measured and evaluated. The results showed that increasing the drying arrival air temperature and radiation intensity of infrared resulted decrease in drying time. High bending strength and low percentage of cracked kernel was obtained when paddy was dried by hot air assisted infrared dryer. To become fully efficient, Web intelligence must reach a stage of a high-level maturity, passing throughout a process that involves five steps: (1) Web site analysis; (2) Web site and advertising optimization; (3) Segment targeting; (4) Interactive marketing (online only); and (5) Interactive marketing (online and offline). Abstract: In the multi objective optimization, in the case when generated set of Pareto optimal solutions is large, occurs the problem to select of the best solution from this set. In this paper, is suggested a method to order of Pareto set. Ordering the Pareto optimal set carried out in conformity with the introduced distance function between each solution and selected reference point, where the reference point may be adjusted to represent the preferences of a decision making agent. Preference information about objective weights from a decision maker may be expressed imprecisely. The developed elicitation procedure provides an opportunity to obtain surrogate numerical weights for the objectives, and thus, to manage impreciseness of preference. The proposed method is a scalable to many objectives and can be used independently or as complementary to the various visualization techniques in the multidimensional case.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to introduce an interactive online case-study library website developed in a national project. The design goal of the website is to provide interactive, enhanced, case-based and online educational resource for educators through the purpose and within the scope of a national project. The ADDIE instructional design model was used in the development of the website for interactive case-based library. This library is developed on a web-based platform, which is important in terms of manageability, accessibility, and updateability of data. Users are able to sort the displayed case-studies by their titles, dates, ratings, view counts, etc. The usability test is used and the expert opinion is taken for the evaluation of the website. This website is a tool to integrate technology into education. It is believed that this website will be beneficial for pre-service and in-service teachers in terms of their professional developments.
