Abstract: In this paper, the effect of atmospheric turbulence on
bit error probability in free-space optical CDMA scheme with
Sequence Inverse Keyed (SIK) optical correlator receiver is analyzed.
Here Intensity Modulation scheme is considered for transmission.
The turbulence induced fading is described by the newly introduced
gamma-gamma pdf[1] as a tractable mathematical model for
atmospheric turbulence. Results are evaluated with Gold and Kasami
code & it is shown that Gold sequence can be used for more
efficient transmission than Kasami sequence in an atmospheric
turbulence channel.
Abstract: We aimed to investigate how can target and optimize
pulmonary delivery distribution by changing physicochemical
characteristics of instilled liquid. Therefore, we created a new liquids
group:
a. eligible for desired distribution within lung because of
assorted physicochemical characteristics
b. capable of being augmented with a broad range of
chemicals inertly
c. no interference on respiratory function
d. compatible with airway surface liquid
We developed forty types of new liquid, were composed of
Carboxymethylcellulose sodium,Glycerin and different types of
Polysorbates.Viscosity was measured using a Programmable
Rheometer and surface tension by KRUSS Tensiometer. We
subsequently examined the liquids and delivery protocols by simple
and branched glass capillary tube models of airways.Eventually,we
explored pulmonary distribution of liquids being augmented with
technetium-99m in mechanically ventilated rabbits. We used a single
head large field of view gamma camera.Kinematic viscosity between
0.265Stokes and 0.289Stokes,density between 1g/cm3 and 1.5g/cm3
and surface tension between 25dyn/cm and 35dyn/cm were the most
acceptable.
Abstract: Let R be a ring and n a fixed positive integer, we
investigate the properties of n-strongly Gorenstein projective, injective
and flat modules. Using the homological theory , we prove that
the tensor product of an n-strongly Gorenstein projective (flat) right
R -module and projective (flat) left R-module is also n-strongly
Gorenstein projective (flat). Let R be a coherent ring ,we prove that
the character module of an n -strongly Gorenstein flat left R -module
is an n-strongly Gorenstein injective right R -module . At last, let
R be a commutative ring and S a multiplicatively closed set of R ,
we establish the relation between n -strongly Gorenstein projective
(injective , flat ) R -modules and n-strongly Gorenstein projective
(injective , flat ) S−1R-modules. All conclusions in this paper is
helpful for the research of Gorenstein dimensions in future.
Abstract: In this paper, the modified optimal sliding mode control with a proposed method to design a sliding surface is presented. Because of the inability of the previous approach of the sliding mode method to design a bounded and suitable input, the new variation is proposed in the sliding manifold to obviate problems in a structural system. Although the sliding mode control is a powerful method to reject disturbances and noises, the chattering problem is not good for actuators. To decrease the chattering phenomena, the optimal control is added to the sliding mode control. Not only the proposed method can decline the intense variations in the inputs of the system but also it can produce the efficient responses respect to the sliding mode control and optimal control that are shown by performing some numerical simulations.
Abstract: The object of this research is the design and
evaluation of an immersive Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) for
deaf children. Recently we have developed a prototype immersive
VR game to teach sign language mathematics to deaf students age K-
4 [1] [2]. In this paper we describe a significant extension of the
prototype application. The extension includes: (1) user-centered
design and implementation of two additional interactive
environments (a clock store and a bakery), and (2) user-centered
evaluation including development of user tasks, expert panel-based
evaluation, and formative evaluation. This paper is one of the few to
focus on the importance of user-centered, iterative design in VR
application development, and to describe a structured evaluation
method.
Abstract: Chronic diseases prevailed along with economic
growth as well as life style changed in recent years in Taiwan.
According to the governmental statistics, hypertension related disease
is the tenth of death causes with 1,816 died directly from hypertension
in 2010. There were more death causes amongst the top ten had been
proofed that having strong association with the hypertension, such as
heart diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes. Hypertension or
High blood pressure is one of the major indicators for chronic diseases,
and was generally perceived as the major causes of mortality. The
literature generally suggested that regular physical exercise was
helpful to prevent the occurrence or to ease the progress of a
hypertension. This paper reported the process and outcomes in
detailed of an improvement project of physical exercise intervention
specific for hypertension patients. Physical information were
measured before and after the project to obtain information such as
weight, waistline, cholesterol (HD & LD), blood examination, as well
as self-perceived health status. The intervention project involved a
six-week exercise program, of which contained three times a week, 30
minutes of tutored physical exercise intervention. The project had
achieved several gains in changing the subjects- behavior in terms of
many important biophysical indexes. Around 20% of the participants
had significantly improved their cholesterols, BMI, and changed
unhealthy behaviors. Results from the project were encouraging, and
would be good reference for other samples.
Abstract: The utility of expert system generators has been
widely recognized in many applications. Several generators based on
concept of the paradigm object, have been recently proposed. The
generator of oriented object expert system (GSEOO) offers
languages that are often complex and difficult to use. We propose in
this paper an extension of the expert system generator, JESS, which
permits a friendly use of this expert system. The new tool, called
VISUAL JESS, bring two main improvements to JESS. The first
improvement concerns the easiness of its utilization while giving
back transparency to the syntax and semantic aspects of the JESS
programming language. The second improvement permits an easy
access and modification of the JESS knowledge basis. The
implementation of VISUAL JESS is made so that it is extensible and
portable.
Abstract: The intermittent connectivity modifies the “always
on" network assumption made by all the distributed query processing
systems. In modern- day systems, the absence of network
connectivity is considered as a fault. Since the last upload, it might
not be feasible to transmit all the data accumulated right away over
the available connection. It is possible that vital information may be
delayed excessively when the less important information takes place
of the vital information. Owing to the restricted and uneven
bandwidth, it is vital that the mobile nodes make the most
advantageous use of the connectivity when it arrives. Hence, in order
to select the data that needs to be transmitted first, some sort of data
prioritization is essential. A continuous query processing system for
intermittently connected mobile networks that comprises of a delaytolerant
continuous query processor distributed across the mobile
hosts has been proposed in this paper. In addition, a mechanism for
prioritizing query results has been designed that guarantees enhanced
accuracy and reduced delay. It is illustrated that our architecture
reduces the client power consumption, increases query efficiency by
the extensive simulation results.
Abstract: High Performance Work Systems (HPWS) generally give rise to positive impacts on employees by increasing their commitments in workplaces. While some argued this actually have considerable negative impacts on employees with increasing possibilities of imposing strains caused by stress and intensity of such work places. Do stressful workplaces hamper employee commitment? The author has tried to find the answer by exploring linkages between HPWS practices and its impact on employees in Japanese organizations. How negative outcomes like job intensity and workplaces and job stressors can influence different forms of employees- commitments which can be a hindrance to their performance. Design: A close ended questionnaire survey was conducted amongst 16 large, medium and small sized Japanese companies from diverse industries around Chiba, Saitama, and Ibaraki Prefectures and in Tokyo from the month of October 2008 to February 2009. Questionnaires were aimed to the non managerial employees- perceptions of HPWS practices, their behavior, working life experiences in their work places. A total of 227 samples are used for analysis in the study. Methods: Correlations, MANCOVA, SEM Path analysis using AMOS software are used for data analysis in this study. Findings: Average non-managerial perception of HPWS adoption is significantly but negatively correlated to both work place Stressors and Continuous commitment, but positively correlated to job Intensity, Affective, Occupational and Normative commitments in different workplaces at Japan. The path analysis by SEM shows significant indirect relationship between Stressors and employee Affective organizational commitment and Normative organizational commitments. Intensity also has a significant indirect effect on Occupational commitments. HPWS has an additive effect on all the outcomes variables. Limitations: The sample size in this study cannot be a representative to the entire population of non-managerial employees in Japan. There were no respondents from automobile, pharmaceuticals, finance industries. The duration of the survey coincided in a period when Japan as most of the other countries is under going recession. Biases could not be ruled out completely. We must take cautions in interpreting the results of studies as they cannot be generalized. And the path analysis cannot provide the complete causality of the inter linkages between the variables used in the study. Originality: There have been limited studies on linkages in HPWS adoptions and their impacts on employees- behaviors and commitments in Japanese workplaces. This study may provide some ingredients for further research in the fields of HRM policies and practices and their linkages on different forms of employees- commitments.
Abstract: Since hyaluronic acid (HA) receptor such as CD44 is
over-expressed at sites of cancer cells, HA can be used as a targeting
vehicles for anti-cancer drugs. The aim of this study is to synthesize
block copolymer composed of hyaluronic acid and
poly(ε-caprolactone) (HAPCL) and to fabricate polymeric micelles for
anticancer drug targeting against CD44 receptor of tumor cells.
Chemical composition of HAPCL was confirmed using 1H NMR
spectroscopy. Doxorubicin (DOX) was incorporated into polymeric
micelles of HAPCL. The diameters of HAPHS polymeric micelles
were changed around 80nm and have spherical shapes. Targeting
potential was investigated using CD44-overexpressing. When
DOX-incorporated polymeric micelles was added to KB cells, they
revealed strong red fluorescence color while blocking of CD44
receptor by pretreatment of free HA resulted in reduced intensity,
indicating that HAPCL polymeric micelles have targetability against
CD44 receptor.

Abstract: Mammals are known to use Interaural Intensity Difference (IID) to determine azimuthal position of high frequency sounds. In the Lateral Superior Olive (LSO) neurons have firing behaviours which vary systematicaly with IID. Those neurons receive excitatory inputs from the ipsilateral ear and inhibitory inputs from the contralateral one. The IID sensitivity of a LSO neuron is thought to be due to delay differences between both ears, delays due to different synaptic delays and to intensity-dependent delays. In this paper we model the auditory pathway until the LSO. Inputs to LSO neurons are at first numerous and differ in their relative delays. Spike Timing-Dependent Plasticity is then used to prune those connections. We compare the pruned neuron responses with physiological data and analyse the relationship between IID-s of teacher stimuli and IID sensitivities of trained LSO neurons.
Abstract: In the territories where high-intensity
earthquakes are frequent is paid attention to the solving of the
seismic problems. In the paper are described two
computational model variants based on finite element method
of the construction with different subsoil simulation (rigid or
elastic subsoil) is used. For simulation and calculations
program system based on method final elements ANSYS was
used. Seismic responses calculations of residential building
structure were effected on loading characterized by
accelerogram for comparing with the responses spectra
method.
Abstract: In this study, the effect of greywater irrigation on airwater interfacial area is investigated. Several soil column experiments were conducted for different greywater irrigation to develop the pressure-saturation curves. Surface tension was measured for different greywater concentration and fitted for Gibbs adsorption equation. Pressure-saturation curves show that the reduction of capillary rise stops when it reaches its critical micelle concentration (CMC). A simple theory is derived from pressure-saturation curves for calculating air-water interfacial area in porous medium during greywater irrigation by introducing a term 'hydraulic radius' for the pores. This term diminishes any effect of pore shapes on the air-water interfacial area. The air-water interfacial area was calculated using the pressure-saturation curves and found that it decreases with increasing moisture content. But no significant effect was observed on air-water interfacial area for different greywater irrigation. A maximum of 10% variation in interfacial area was observed at the residual saturation zone.
Abstract: Autism spectrum disorder is characterized by
abnormalities in social communication, language abilities and
repetitive behaviors. The present study focused on some grammatical
deficits in autistic children. We evaluated the impairment of correct
use of different Persian verb tenses in autistic children-s speech. Two
standardized Language Test were administered then gathered data
were analyzed. The main result of this study was significant
difference between the mean scores of correct responses to present
tense in comparison with past tense in Persian language. This study
demonstrated that tense is severely impaired in autistic children-s
speech. Our findings indicated those autistic children-s production of
simple present/ past tense opposition to be better than production of
future and past periphrastic forms (past perfect, present perfect, past
progressive).
Abstract: Electric vehicles are considered as technology which
can significantly reduce the problems related to road transport such
as increasing GHG emissions, air pollutions and energy import
dependency.
The core objective of this paper is to analyze the current energetic,
ecological and economic characteristics of different types of electric
vehicles.
The major conclusions of this analysis are: The high investments
cost are the major barrier for broad market breakthrough of battery
electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles. For battery electric vehicles
also the limited driving range states a key obstacle. The analyzed
hybrids could in principle serve as a bridging technology. However,
due to their tank-to-wheel emissions they cannot state a proper
solution for urban areas.
Finally, the most important perception is that also battery electric
vehicles and fuel cell vehicles are environmentally benign solution if
the primary fuel source is renewable.
Abstract: In present work the problem of the ITER fusion
plasma neutron source parameter reconstruction using only the
Vertical Neutron Camera data was solved. The possibility of neutron
source parameter reconstruction was estimated by the numerical
simulations and the analysis of adequateness of mathematic model
was performed. The neutron source was specified in a parametric
form. The numerical analysis of solution stability with respect to data
distortion was done. The influence of the data errors on the
reconstructed parameters is shown:
• is reconstructed with errors less than 4% at all examined values
of δ (until 60%);
• is determined with errors less than 10% when δ do not overcome
5%;
• is reconstructed with relative error more than 10 %;
• integral intensity of the neutron source is determined with error
10% while δ error is less than 15%;
where -error of signal measurements, (R0,Z0), the plasma center
position,- /parameter of neutron source profile.
Abstract: In this paper, a fast motion compensation algorithm is
proposed that improves coding efficiency for video sequences with
brightness variations. We also propose a cross entropy measure
between histograms of two frames to detect brightness variations. The
framewise brightness variation parameters, a multiplier and an offset
field for image intensity, are estimated and compensated. Simulation
results show that the proposed method yields a higher peak signal to
noise ratio (PSNR) compared with the conventional method, with a
greatly reduced computational load, when the video scene contains
illumination changes.
Abstract: Insect pests are the major source of crop
damage, yield and quality reduction in Pakistan and else
where in the world. Cotton crop is the most hit crop in
Pakistan followed by rice and the second most important
foreign exchange earning crop. A wide variety of staple,
horticultural and cash crops grown, reflect serious problems of
many types of insect pests. To overcome the insect pest
problem, pesticide use in Pakistan has increased substantially
which has now been further intensified. Pesticides worth more
than billions of rupees are imported every year. This paper
reviews the over all pesticide use in Pakistan in relation to
pesticide prices, support price of cotton and rice, pesticide use
in different provinces of Pakistan on different crops and their
impact on crop productivity. The environmental pollution
caused by the use of pesticides, contamination of soil and
water resources and the danger associated with the disposal of
their empty containers is also discussed in detail.
Abstract: In general the images used for compression are of
different types like dark image, high intensity image etc. When these
images are compressed using Counter Propagation Neural Network,
it takes longer time to converge. The reason for this is that the given
image may contain a number of distinct gray levels with narrow
difference with their neighborhood pixels. If the gray levels of the
pixels in an image and their neighbors are mapped in such a way that
the difference in the gray levels of the neighbor with the pixel is
minimum, then compression ratio as well as the convergence of the
network can be improved. To achieve this, a Cumulative Distribution
Function is estimated for the image and it is used to map the image
pixels. When the mapped image pixels are used the Counter
Propagation Neural Network yield high compression ratio as well as
it converges quickly.
