Abstract: There are extensive applications of lithium
bromide-water absorption chillers in industry, but the heat exchangers
corrosion and refrigerating capacity loss are very difficult to be solved.
In this paper, an experiment was conducted by using plastic heat
transfer tubes instead of copper tubes. As an example, for a lithium
bromide-water absorption chiller of refrigerating capacity of 35kW,
the correlative performance of the lithium bromide-water absorption
chiller using plastic heat transfer tubes was compared with the
traditional lithium bromide-water absorption chiller. And then the
following three aspects, i.e., heat transfer area, pipe resistance, and
safety strength, are analyzed. The results show that plastic heat
transfer tubes can be used on lithium bromide-water absorption
chillers, and its prospect is very optimistic.
Abstract: Some theoretical and experimental aspects related to
the conceptual analyses concerning the direct correspondence
identification between the shape, area and orientation of plantar
pressure and obtaining adequate corrective insoles by rapid
prototyping are presented in this paper. In the first part of the paper
there is the theoretical-correlative concept, which is the fundament of
correspondence deduction between plantar surface characteristics and
respectively corrective insoles. In the second part of the paper the
experimental equipment used to analyze and perform the
correspondence stages and then the integral ones between the
analyzed foot shapes and the ones with corrective insoles is
presented. In the final parte the results used to adapt the insoles
obtained by rapid prototyping but also some specific aspects and
conclusions of the conceptual analysis of direct and rapid
correspondence are shown.
Abstract: In this paper, an artificial neural network simulator is
employed to carry out diagnosis and prognosis on electric motor as
rotating machinery based on predictive maintenance. Vibration data
of the primary failed motor including unbalance, misalignment and
bearing fault were collected for training the neural network. Neural
network training was performed for a variety of inputs and the motor
condition was used as the expert training information. The main
purpose of applying the neural network as an expert system was to
detect the type of failure and applying preventive maintenance. The
advantage of this study is for machinery Industries by providing
appropriate maintenance that has an essential activity to keep the
production process going at all processes in the machinery industry.
Proper maintenance is pivotal in order to prevent the possible failures
in operating system and increase the availability and effectiveness of
a system by analyzing vibration monitoring and developing expert
system.
Abstract: Turbulent heat transfer to fluid flow through channel with triangular ribs of different angles are presented in this paper. Ansys 14 ICEM and Ansys 14 Fluent are used for meshing process and solving Navier stokes equations respectively. In this investigation three angles of triangular ribs with the range of Reynolds number varied from 20000 to 60000 at constant surface temperature are considered. The results show that the Nusselt number increases with the increase of Reynolds number for all cases at constant surface temperature. According to the profile of local Nusselt number on ribs walled of channel, the peak is at the midpoint between the two ribs. The maximum value of average Nusselt number is obtained for triangular ribs of angel 60°and at Reynolds number of 60000 compared to the Nusselt number for the ribs of angel 90° and 45° and at same Reynolds number. The recirculation regions generated by the ribs corresponding to the velocity streamline show the largest recirculation region at triangular ribs of angle 60° which also provides the highest enhancement of heat transfer.
Abstract: The combustion chamber dimensions have important
effects on pollutant emission in furnaces as a direct result of
temperature distribution and maximum temperature value. In this
paper the pollutant emission and the temperature distribution in two
cylindrical furnaces with different dimensions (with similar length to
diameter ratio) in similar condition have been investigated
experimentally. The furnace fuel is gas oil that is used with three
different flow rates. The results show that in these two cases the
temperature increases to its maximum value quickly, and then
decreases slowly. The results also show that increase in fuel flow rate
cause to increase in NOx emission in each case, but this increase is
greater in small furnace. With increase in fuel flow rate, CO emission
decreases firstly, and then it increases. Combustion efficiency
reduces with increase in fuel flow rate but the rate of reduction in
small furnace is greater than large furnace. The results of axial
temperature distribution have been compared with those have been
obtained numerically and experimentally by Moghiman.
Abstract: Direct Torque Control is a control technique in AC
drive systems to obtain high performance torque control. The
conventional DTC drive contains a pair of hysteresis comparators.
DTC drives utilizing hysteresis comparators suffer from high torque
ripple and variable switching frequency. The most common solution
to those problems is to use the space vector depends on the reference
torque and flux. In this Paper The space vector modulation technique
(SVPWM) is applied to 2 level inverter control in the proposed
DTC-based induction motor drive system, thereby dramatically
reducing the torque ripple. Then the controller based on space vector
modulation is designed to be applied in the control of Induction
Motor (IM) with a three-level Inverter. This type of Inverter has
several advantages over the standard two-level VSI, such as a greater
number of levels in the output voltage waveforms, Lower dV/dt, less
harmonic distortion in voltage and current waveforms and lower
switching frequencies. This paper proposes a general SVPWM
algorithm for three-level based on standard two-level SVPWM. The
proposed scheme is described clearly and simulation results are
reported to demonstrate its effectiveness. The entire control scheme is
implemented with Matlab/Simulink.
Abstract: In this study, to accurately predict cavitation of a
centrifugal pump, numerical analysis was compared with experimental
results modeled on a small industrial centrifugal pump. In this study,
numerical analysis was compared with experimental results modeled
on a small industrial centrifugal pump for reliable prediction on
cavitation of a centrifugal pump. To improve validity of the numerical
analysis, transient analysis was conducted on the calculated domain of
full-type geometry, such as an experimental apparatus. The numerical
analysis from the results was considered to be a reliable prediction of
cavitaion.
Abstract: A multi fingered dexterous anthropomorphic hand is
being developed by the authors. The focus of the hand is the
replacement of human operators in hazardous environments and also
in environments where zero tolerance is observed for the human
errors. The robotic hand will comprise of five fingers (four fingers
and one thumb) each having four degrees of freedom (DOF) which
can perform flexion, extension, abduction, adduction and also
circumduction. For the actuation purpose pneumatic muscles and
springs will be used. The paper exemplifies the mechanical design for
the robotic hand. It also describes different mechanical designs that
have been developed before date.
Abstract: Steady state experiments have been conducted for
natural and mixed convection heat transfer, from five different sized
protruding discrete heat sources, placed at the bottom position on a
PCB and mounted on a vertical channel. The characteristic length (
Lh ) of heat sources vary from 0.005 to 0.011 m. The study has been
done for different range of Reynolds number and modified Grashof
number. From the experiment, the surface temperature distribution
and the Nusselt number of discrete heat sources have been obtained
and the effects of Reynold number and Richardson number on them
have been discussed. The objective is to find the rate of heat
dissipation from heat sources, by placing them at the bottom position
on a PCB and to compare both modes of cooling of heat sources.
Abstract: This paper presents an new vision technique for
robotic manipulation of randomly oriented objects in industrial
applications. The proposed approach uses 2D and 3D vision for
efficiently extracting the 3D pose of an object in the presence of
multiple randomly positioned objects. 2D vision permits to quickly
select the objects of interest for 3D processing with a new modified
ICP algorithm (FaR-ICP), thus reducing significantly the processing
time. The extracted 3D pose is then sent to the robot manipulator for
picking. The tests show that the proposed system achieves high
performances
Abstract: A sophisticated simulator provides a cost-effective measure to carry out preliminary mission testing and diagnostic while reducing potential failures for real life at sea trials. The presented simulation framework covers three key areas: AUV modeling, sensor modeling, and environment modeling. AUV modeling mainly covers the area of AUV dynamics. Sensor modeling deals with physics and mathematical models that govern each sensor installed onto the AUV. Environment model incorporates the hydrostatic, hydrodynamics, and ocean currents that will affect the AUV in a real-time mission. Based on this designed simulation framework, custom scenarios provided by the user can be modeled and its corresponding behaviors can be observed. This paper focuses on the accuracy of the simulated data from AUV model and environmental model derived from a developed AUV test-bed which was jointly upgraded by DSTO and the University of Adelaide. The main contribution of this paper is to experimentally verify the accuracy of the proposed simulation framework.
Abstract: Numerical investigation of flow around a square cylinder are presented using the multi-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann methods at different Reynolds numbers. A detail analysis are given in terms of time-trace analysis of drag and lift coefficients, power spectra analysis of lift coefficient, vorticity contours visualizations, streamlines and phase diagrams. A number of physical quantities mean drag coefficient, drag coefficient, Strouhal number and root-mean-square values of drag and lift coefficients are calculated and compared with the well resolved experimental data and numerical results available in open literature. The Reynolds numbers affected the physical quantities.
Abstract: This paper presents work characterizing finite element
performance boundaries within which live, interactive finite element
modeling is feasible on current and emerging systems. These results
are based on wide-ranging tests performed using a prototype finite
element program implemented specifically for this study, thereby enabling
the unified investigation of numerous direct and iterative solver
strategies and implementations in a variety of modeling contexts.
The results are intended to be useful for researchers interested in
interactive analysis by providing baseline performance estimates, to
give guidance in matching solution strategies to problem domains,
and to spur further work addressing the challenge of extending the
present boundaries.
Abstract: Three dimensional simulations in tube in tube heat
exchangers are investigated numerically in this study. In these
simulations forced convective heat transfer and laminar flow of
single-phase water are considered. In order to measure heat transfer
parameters in these heat exchangers, FLUENT CFD Solver is used in
this numerical method. For the purpose of creating geometry and
exert boundary and initial conditions in the present model, finite
volume method in Computational Fluid Dynamics is used in this
study. In the present study, at each Z-location, variation of local
temperatures, heat flux and Nusselt number at the whole tube is
investigated in detail. Thereafter, averaged computational Nusselt
number in this model is calculated. In addition, conceivable pressure
drops have been obtained at each Z-location in this model. Then,
pressure drop values in the present model are explored. Finally, all
the numerical results for this kind of heat exchanger will be discussed
precisely.
Abstract: The exhaustive quality control is becoming more and
more important when commercializing competitive products in the
world's globalized market. Taken this affirmation as an undeniable
truth, it becomes critical in certain sector markets that need to offer
the highest restrictions in quality terms. One of these examples is the
percussion cap mass production, a critical element assembled in
firearm ammunition. These elements, built in great quantities at a
very high speed, must achieve a minimum tolerance deviation in
their fabrication, due to their vital importance in firing the piece of
ammunition where they are built in. This paper outlines a machine
vision development for the 100% inspection of percussion caps
obtaining data from 2D and 3D simultaneous images. The acquisition
speed and precision of these images from a metallic reflective piece
as a percussion cap, the accuracy of the measures taken from these
images and the multiple fabrication errors detected make the main
findings of this work.
Abstract: Recent medical studies have investigated the importance of enteral feeding and the use of feeding pumps for recovering patients unable to feed themselves or gain nourishment and nutrients by natural means. The most of enteral feeding system uses a peristaltic tube pump. A peristaltic pump is a form of positive displacement pump in which a flexible tube is progressively squeezed externally to allow the resulting enclosed pillow of fluid to progress along it. The squeezing of the tube requires a precise and robust controller of the geared motor to overcome parametric uncertainty of the pumping system which generates due to a wide variation of friction and slip between tube and roller. So, this paper proposes fuzzy adaptive controller for the robust control of the peristaltic tube pump. This new adaptive controller uses a fuzzy multi-layered architecture which has several independent fuzzy controllers in parallel, each with different robust stability area. Out of several independent fuzzy controllers, the most suited one is selected by a system identifier which observes variations in the controlled system parameter. This paper proposes a design procedure which can be carried out mathematically and systematically from the model of a controlled system. Finally, the good control performance, accurate dose rate and robust system stability, of the developed feeding pump is confirmed through experimental and clinic testing.
Abstract: This paper provides a new approach to solve the motion planning problems of flying robots in uncertain 3D dynamic environments. The robots controlled by this method can adaptively choose the fast way to avoid collision without information about the shapes and trajectories of obstacles. Based on sphere coordinates the new method accomplishes collision avoidance of flying robots without any other auxiliary positioning systems. The Self-protection System gives robots self-protection abilities to work in uncertain 3D dynamic environments. Simulations illustrate the validity of the proposed method.
Abstract: Conventional materials like glass, wood or metals
replacement with polymer materials is still continuing. More simple
thus cheaper production is the main reason. However due to high
energy and petrochemical prices are polymer prices increasing too.
That´s why various kinds of fillers are used to make polymers
cheaper. Of course target is to maintain or improve properties of
these compounds. In this paper are solved rheology issues of
polymers compounded with vegetal origin fibers.
Abstract: The objective of this research is parameters optimized
of the stair shape workpiece which is cut by CNC Wire-Cut EDM
(WEDW). The experiment material is SKD-11 steel of stair-shaped
with variable height workpiece 10, 20, 30 and 40 mm. with the same
10 mm. thickness are cut by Sodick's CNC Wire-Cut EDM model
AD325L.
The experiments are designed by 3k full factorial experimental
design at 3 level 2 factors and 9 experiments with 2 replicate. The
selected two factor are servo voltage (SV) and servo feed rate (SF)
and the response is cutting thickness error. The experiment is divided
in two experiments. The first experiment determines the significant
effective factor at confidential interval 95%. The SV factor is the
significant effective factor from first result. In order to result smallest
cutting thickness error of workpieces is 17 micron with the SV value
is 46 volt. Also show that the lower SV value, the smaller different
thickness error of workpiece. Then the second experiment is done to
reduce different cutting thickness error of workpiece as small as
possible by lower SV. The second experiment result show the
significant effective factor at confidential interval 95% is the SV
factor and the smallest cutting thickness error of workpieces reduce
to 11 micron with the experiment SV value is 36 volt.
Abstract: Automotive engine air-ratio plays an important role of
emissions and fuel consumption reduction while maintains
satisfactory engine power among all of the engine control variables. In
order to effectively control the air-ratio, this paper presents a model
predictive fuzzy control algorithm based on online least-squares
support vector machines prediction model and fuzzy logic optimizer.
The proposed control algorithm was also implemented on a real car for
testing and the results are highly satisfactory. Experimental results
show that the proposed control algorithm can regulate the engine
air-ratio to the stoichiometric value, 1.0, under external disturbance
with less than 5% tolerance.
