Abstract: Contraceptive policies have been derived to achieve desired reductions in the growth rate and also, applied to the data of Uttar-Pradesh, India for illustration. Using the Lotka’s integral equation for the stable population, expressions for the proportion of contraceptive users at different ages have been obtained. At the age of 20 years, 42% of contraceptive users is imperative to reduce the present annual growth rate of 0.036 to 0.02, assuming that 40% of the contraceptive users discontinue at the age of 25 years and 30% again continue contraceptive use at age 30 years. Further, presuming that 75% of women start using contraceptives at the age of 23 years, and 50% of the remaining women start using contraceptives at the age of 28 years, while the rest of them start using it at the age of 32 years. If we set a minimum age of marriage as 20 years, a reduction of 0.019 in growth rate will be obtained. This study describes how the level of contraceptive use at different age groups of women reduces the growth rate in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The article also promotes delayed marriage in the region.
Abstract: The present work relates to the corrosivity of distillery effluent and corrosion performance of mild steel and stainless steels SS304L, SS316L, and 2205. The report presents the results and conclusions drawn on the basis of (i) electrochemical polarization tests performed in distillery effluent and laboratory prepared solutions having composition similar to that of the effluent (ii) the surface examination by scanning electron microscope (SEM) of the corroded steel samples. It is observed that pH and presence of chloride, phosphate, calcium, nitrite and nitrate in distillery effluent enhance corrosion, whereas presence of sulphate and potassium inhibits corrosion. Among the materials tested, mild steel is observed to experience maximum corrosion followed by stainless steels SS304L, SS316L, and 2205.
Abstract: In this work, the relationship between the melanin content in a tissue and subsequent absorption of light through that tissue was determined using a digital camera. This technique proved to be simple, cost effective, efficient and reliable. Tissue phantom samples were created using milk and soy sauce to simulate the optical properties of melanin content in human tissue. Increasing the concentration of soy sauce in the milk correlated to an increase in melanin content of an individual. Two methods were employed to measure the light transmitted through the sample. The first was direct measurement of the transmitted intensity using a conventional lux meter. The second method involved correctly calibrating an ordinary digital camera and using image analysis software to calculate the transmitted intensity through the phantom. The results from these methods were then graphically compared to the theoretical relationship between the intensity of transmitted light and the concentration of absorbers in the sample. Conclusions were then drawn about the effectiveness and efficiency of these low cost methods.
Abstract: This paper presents the three optimization models, namely New Binary Artificial Bee Colony (NBABC) algorithm, NBABC with Local Search (NBABC-LS), and NBABC with Genetic Crossover (NBABC-GC) for solving the Wind-Thermal Unit Commitment (WTUC) problem. The uncertain nature of the wind power is incorporated using the Weibull probability density function, which is used to calculate the overestimation and underestimation costs associated with the wind power fluctuation. The NBABC algorithm utilizes a mechanism based on the dissimilarity measure between binary strings for generating the binary solutions in WTUC problem. In NBABC algorithm, an intelligent scout bee phase is proposed that replaces the abandoned solution with the global best solution. The local search operator exploits the neighboring region of the current solutions, whereas the integration of genetic crossover with the NBABC algorithm increases the diversity in the search space and thus avoids the problem of local trappings encountered with the NBABC algorithm. These models are then used to decide the units on/off status, whereas the lambda iteration method is used to dispatch the hourly load demand among the committed units. The effectiveness of the proposed models is validated on an IEEE 10-unit thermal system combined with a wind farm over the planning period of 24 hours.

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a new packing strategy to
find a free resource for run-time mapping of application tasks to
NoC-based Heterogeneous MPSoC. The proposed strategy minimizes
the task mapping time in addition to placing the communicating tasks
close to each other. To evaluate our approach, a comparative study is
carried out for a platform containing single task supported PEs.
Experiments show that our strategy provides better results when
compared to latest dynamic mapping strategies reported in the
literature.
Abstract: This paper presents a novel CPW fed patch antenna supporting a wide band from 2.7 GHz – 6.5 GHz. The antenna is compact with size 32 x 30 x 1.6mm3, built over FR4-epoxy substrate (εr=4.4). Bandwidth enhancement has been achieved by using the concept of modified ground structure (MGS). For this purpose structural design has been optimized by parametric simulations in CST MWS. The proposed antenna can perform well in variety of wireless communication services including 5.15 GHz- 5.35 GHz and 5.725 GHz- 5.825 GHz WLAN IEEE 802.11 g/a, 5.2/ 5.5/ 5.8 GHz Wi-Fi, 3.5/5.5 GHz WiMax applications and 3.7 - 4.2 GHz C band satellite communications bands. The measured experimental results show that bandwidth (S11 < -10 dB) of antenna is 3.8 GHz. The performance of antenna is studied in terms of reflection coefficient, radiation characteristics, current distribution and gain.
Abstract: In this study the augmentation of heat transfer in a rectangular channel with triangular vortex generators is evaluated. The span wise averaged Nusselt number, mean temperature and total heat flux are compared with and without vortex generators in the channel at a blade angle of 30° for Reynolds numbers 800, 1200, 1600, and 2000. The use of vortex generators increases the span wise averaged Nusselt number compared to the case without vortex generators considerably. At a particular blade angle, increasing the Reynolds number results in an enhancement in the overall performance and span wise averaged Nusselt number was found to be greater at particular location for larger Reynolds number. The total heat flux from the bottom wall with vortex generators was found to be greater than that without vortex generators and the difference increases with increase in Reynolds number.
Abstract: In the present paper, a gyrotron cavity is analyzed in the absence of electron beam for dispersion, attenuation and RF efficiency. For all these characteristics, azimuthally symmetric TE0n modes have been considered. The attenuation characteristics for TE0n modes indicated decrease in attenuation constant as the frequency is increased. Interestingly, the lowest order TE01 mode resulted in lowest attenuation. Further, three different cavity wall materials have been selected for attenuation characteristics. The cavity made of material with higher conductivity resulted in lower attenuation. The effect of material electrical conductivity on the RF efficiency has also been observed and has been found that the RF efficiency rapidly decreases as the electrical conductivity of the cavity material decreases. The RF efficiency rapidly decreases with increasing diffractive quality factor. The ohmic loss variation as a function of frequency of operation for three different cavities made of copper, aluminum and nickel has been observed. The ohmic losses are lowest for the copper cavity and hence the highest RF efficiency.
Abstract: This paper describes identification of the two poles
unstable SOPDT process, especially with large time delay. A new
modified relay feedback identification method for two poles unstable
SOPDT process is proposed. Furthermore, for the two poles unstable
SOPDT process, an additional Derivative controller is incorporated
parallel with relay to relax the constraint on the ratio of delay to the
unstable time constant, so that the exact model parameters of
unstable processes can be identified. To cope with measurement
noise in practice, a low pass filter is suggested to get denoised output
signal toimprove the exactness of model parameter of unstable
process. PID Lead-lag tuning formulas are derived for two poles
unstable (SOPDT) processes based on IMC principle. Simulation
example illustrates the effectiveness and the simplicity of the
proposed identification and control method.
Abstract: Operating a device at high power and high frequency
is a major problem because wall losses greatly reduce the efficiency
of the device. In the present communication, authors analytically
analyzed the dependence of ohmic/RF efficiency, the fraction of
output power with respect to the total power generated, of gyrotron
cavity structure on the conductivity of copper for the second
harmonic TE0,6 mode. This study shows a rapid fall in the RF
efficiency as the quality (conductivity) of copper degrades. Starting
with an RF efficiency near 40% at the conductivity of ideal copper
(5.8 x 107 S/m), the RF efficiency decreases (upto 8%) as the copper
quality degrades. Assuming conductivity half that of ideal copper the
RF efficiency as a function of diffractive quality factor, Qdiff, has
been studied. Here the RF efficiency decreases rapidly with
increasing diffractive Q. Ohmic wall losses as a function of
frequency for 460 GHz gyrotron cavity excited in TE0,6 mode has
also been analyzed. For 460 GHz cavity, the extracted power is
reduced to 32% of the generated power due to ohmic losses in the
walls of the cavity.
Abstract: Direct numerical simulation (DNS) is used to study the evolution of a boundary layer that was laminar initially followed by separation and then reattachment owing to generation of turbulence. This creates a closed region of recirculation, known as the laminar-separation bubble. The present simulation emulates the flow environment encountered in a modern LP turbine blade, where a laminar separation bubble may occur on the suction surface. The unsteady, incompressible three-dimensional (3-D) Navier-Stokes (NS) equations have been solved over a flat plate in the Cartesian coordinates. The adverse pressure gradient, which causes the flow to separate, is created by a boundary condition. The separated shear layer undergoes transition through appearance of ╬ø vortices, stretching of these create longitudinal streaks. Breakdown of the streaks into small and irregular structures makes the flow turbulent downstream.
Abstract: Laboratory experiments have been performed to investigate photocatalytic detoxification by using TiO2 photocatalyst for treating dairy effluent. Various operational parameters such as catalyst concentration, initial concentration, angle of tilt of solar flat plate reactor and flow rate were investigated. Results indicated that the photocatalytic detoxification process can efficiently treat dairy effluent. Experimental runs with dairy wastewater can be used to identify the optimum operational parameters to perform wastewater degradation on large scale for recycling purpose. Also effect of two different types of reactors on degradation process was analyzed.
Abstract: How to efficiently assign system resource to route the
Client demand by Gateway servers is a tricky predicament. In this
paper, we tender an enhanced proposal for autonomous recital of
Gateway servers under highly vibrant traffic loads. We devise a
methodology to calculate Queue Length and Waiting Time utilizing
Gateway Server information to reduce response time variance in
presence of bursty traffic.
The most widespread contemplation is performance, because
Gateway Servers must offer cost-effective and high-availability
services in the elongated period, thus they have to be scaled to meet
the expected load. Performance measurements can be the base for
performance modeling and prediction. With the help of performance
models, the performance metrics (like buffer estimation, waiting
time) can be determined at the development process.
This paper describes the possible queue models those can be
applied in the estimation of queue length to estimate the final value
of the memory size. Both simulation and experimental studies using
synthesized workloads and analysis of real-world Gateway Servers
demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system.
Abstract: In the present paper, disc loaded interaction structure
for potential application in wideband Gyro-TWT amplifier has been
analyzed, taking all the space and modal harmonics into
consideration, for the eigenwave solutions. The analysis has been
restricted to azimuthally symmetric TE0,n mode. Dispersion
characteristics have been plotted by varying the structure parameters
and have been validated against HFSS simulation results. The
variation of eigenvalue with respect to different structure parameters
has also been presented. It has been observed that disc periodicity
plays very important role for wideband operation of disc-loaded
Gyro-TWT.
Abstract: In wireless sensor network (WSN) the use of mobile
sink has been attracting more attention in recent times. Mobile sinks
are more effective means of balancing load, reducing hotspot
problem and elongating network lifetime. The sensor nodes in WSN
have limited power supply, computational capability and storage and
therefore for continuous data delivery reliability becomes high
priority in these networks. In this paper, we propose a Reliable
Energy-efficient Data Dissemination (REDD) scheme for WSNs with
multiple mobile sinks. In this strategy, sink first determines the
location of source and then directly communicates with the source
using geographical forwarding. Every forwarding node (FN) creates a
local zone comprising some sensor nodes that can act as
representative of FN when it fails. Analytical and simulation study
reveals significant improvement in energy conservation and reliable
data delivery in comparison to existing schemes.
Abstract: In this paper, various algorithms for designing quadrature mirror filter are reviewed and a new algorithm is presented for the design of near perfect reconstruction quadrature mirror filter bank. In the proposed algorithm, objective function is formulated using the perfect reconstruction condition or magnitude response condition of prototype filter at frequency (ω = 0.5π) in ideal condition. The cutoff frequency is iteratively changed to adjust the filters coefficients using optimization algorithm. The performances of the proposed algorithm are evaluated in term of computation time, reconstruction error and number of iterations. The design examples illustrate that the proposed algorithm is superior in term of peak reconstruction error, computation time, and number of iterations. The proposed algorithm is simple, easy to implement, and linear in nature.
Abstract: The rapid pace of technological advancement and its
consequential widening digital divide has resulted in the
marginalization of the disabled especially the communication
challenged. The dearth of suitable technologies for the development
of assistive technologies has served to further marginalize the
communications challenged user population and widen this chasm
even further. Given the varying levels of disability there and its
associated requirement for customized solution based. This paper
explains the use of a Software Development Kits (SDK) for the
bridging of this communications divide through the use of industry
poplar communications SDKs towards identification of requirements
for communications challenged users as well as identification of
appropriate frameworks for future development initiatives.

Abstract: Clustering in high dimensional space is a difficult
problem which is recurrent in many fields of science and
engineering, e.g., bioinformatics, image processing, pattern
reorganization and data mining. In high dimensional space some of
the dimensions are likely to be irrelevant, thus hiding the possible
clustering. In very high dimensions it is common for all the objects in
a dataset to be nearly equidistant from each other, completely
masking the clusters. Hence, performance of the clustering algorithm
decreases.
In this paper, we propose an algorithmic framework which
combines the (reduct) concept of rough set theory with the k-means
algorithm to remove the irrelevant dimensions in a high dimensional
space and obtain appropriate clusters. Our experiment on test data
shows that this framework increases efficiency of the clustering
process and accuracy of the results.
