Abstract: This paper presents a novel approach for representing
the spatio-temporal topology of the camera network with overlapping
and non-overlapping fields of view (FOVs). The topology is
determined by tracking moving objects and establishing object
correspondence across multiple cameras. To track people successfully
in multiple camera views, we used the Merge-Split (MS) approach for
object occlusion in a single camera and the grid-based approach for
extracting the accurate object feature. In addition, we considered the
appearance of people and the transition time between entry and exit
zones for tracking objects across blind regions of multiple cameras
with non-overlapping FOVs. The main contribution of this paper is to
estimate transition times between various entry and exit zones, and to
graphically represent the camera topology as an undirected weighted
graph using the transition probabilities.
Abstract: This paper is about hiding RFID tag identifier (ID)
using handheld device like a cellular phone. By modifying the tag ID
of objects periodically or manually using cellular phone built-in a
RFID reader chip or with a external RFID reader device, we can
prevent other people from gathering the information related with
objects querying information server (like an EPC IS) with a tag ID or
deriving the information from tag ID-s code structure or tracking the
location of the objects and the owner of the objects. In this paper, we
use a cryptographic algorithm for modification and restoring of RFID
tag ID, and for one original tag ID, there are several different
temporary tag ID, periodically.
Abstract: The unanticipated brittle fracture of connection of the
steel moment resisting frame (SMRF) occurred in 1994 the Northridge
earthquake. Since then, the researches for the vulnerability of
connection of the existing SMRF and for rehabilitation of those
buildings were conducted. This paper suggests performance-based
optimal seismic retrofit technique using connection upgrade. For
optimal design, a multi-objective genetic algorithm(NSGA-II) is used.
One of the two objective functions is to minimize initial cost and
another objective function is to minimize lifetime seismic damages
cost. The optimal algorithm proposed in this paper is performed
satisfying specified performance objective based on FEMA 356. The
nonlinear static analysis is performed for structural seismic
performance evaluation. A numerical example of SAC benchmark
SMRF is provided using the performance-based optimal seismic
retrofit technique proposed in this paper
Abstract: This paper proposes a prototype of a lower-limb
rehabilitation system for recovering and strengthening patients-
injured lower limbs. The system is composed of traction motors for
each leg position, a treadmill as a walking base, tension sensors,
microcontrollers controlling motor functions and a main system with
graphic user interface. For derivation of reference or normal velocity
profiles of the body segment point, kinematic method is applied based
on the humanoid robot model using the reference joint angle data of
normal walking.
Abstract: This paper presents a real-time defect detection
algorithm for high-speed steel bar in coil. Because the target speed is
very high, proposed algorithm should process quickly the large
volumes of image for real-time processing. Therefore, defect detection
algorithm should satisfy two conflicting requirements of reducing the
processing time and improving the efficiency of defect detection. To
enhance performance of detection, edge preserving method is
suggested for noise reduction of target image. Finally, experiment
results show that the proposed algorithm guarantees the condition of
the real-time processing and accuracy of detection.
Abstract: In rapidly changing market environment, firms are investing a lot of time and resources into new product development (NPD) projects to make profit and to obtain competitive advantage. However, failure rate of NPD projects is becoming high due to various internal and external risks which hinder successful NPD projects. To reduce the failure rate, it is critical that risks have to be managed effectively and efficiently through good strategy, and treated by optimal responses to minimize risk cost. Four strategies are adopted to handle the risks in this study. The optimal responses are characterized by high reduction of risk costs with high efficiency. This study suggests a framework to decide the optimal responses considering the core risks, risk costs, response efficiency and response costs for successful NPD projects. Both binary particles warm optimization (BPSO) and multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) methods are mainly used in the framework. Although several limitations exist in use for real industries, the frame work shows good strength for handling the risks with highly scientific ways through an example.
Abstract: A numerical method is developed for simulating
the motion of particles with arbitrary shapes in an effectively
infinite or bounded viscous flow. The particle translational and
angular motions are numerically investigated using a fluid-structure
interaction (FSI) method based on the Arbitrary-Lagrangian-Eulerian
(ALE) approach and the dynamic mesh method (smoothing and
remeshing) in FLUENT ( ANSYS Inc., USA). Also, the effects of
arbitrary shapes on the dynamics are studied using the FSI method
which could be applied to the motions and deformations of a single
blood cell and multiple blood cells, and the primary thrombogenesis
caused by platelet aggregation. It is expected that, combined with a
sophisticated large-scale computational technique, the simulation
method will be useful for understanding the overall properties of blood
flow from blood cellular level (microscopic) to the resulting
rheological properties of blood as a mass (macroscopic).
Abstract: The previous study of new metal gasket that contact
width and contact stress an important design parameter for optimizing
metal gasket performance. The optimum design based on an elastic
and plastic contact stress was founded. However, the influence of
flange surface roughness had not been investigated thoroughly. The
flange has many kinds of surface roughness. In this study, we
conducted a gasket model include a flange surface roughness effect. A
finite element method was employed to develop simulation solution. A
uniform quadratic mesh used for meshing the gasket material and a
gradually quadrilateral mesh used for meshing the flange. The gasket
model was simulated by using two simulation stages which is forming
and tightening simulation. A simulation result shows that a smoother
of surface roughness has higher slope for force per unit length. This
mean a squeezed against between flange and gasket will be strong. The
slope of force per unit length for gasket 400-MPa mode was higher
than the gasket 0-MPa mode.
Abstract: Sub-prime mortgage crisis which began in the US is
regarded as the most economic crisis since the Great Depression in the
early 20th century. Especially, hidden problems on efficient operation
of a business were disclosed at a time and many financial institutions
went bankrupt and filed for court receivership. The collapses of
physical market lead to bankruptcy of manufacturing and construction
businesses. This study is to analyze dynamic efficiency of construction
businesses during the five years at the turn of the global financial
crisis. By discovering the trend and stability of efficiency of a
construction business, this study-s objective is to improve
management efficiency of a construction business in the
ever-changing construction market. Variables were selected by
analyzing corporate information on top 20 construction businesses in
Korea and analyzed for static efficiency in 2008 and dynamic
efficiency between 2006 and 2010. Unlike other studies, this study
succeeded in deducing efficiency trend and stability of a construction
business for five years by using the DEA/Window model. Using the
analysis result, efficient and inefficient companies could be figured
out. In addition, relative efficiency among DMU was measured by
comparing the relationship between input and output variables of
construction businesses. This study can be used as a literature to
improve management efficiency for companies with low efficiency
based on efficiency analysis of construction businesses.
Abstract: This paper proposes a smart design strategy for a sequential detector to reliably detect the primary user-s signal, especially in fast fading environments. We study the computation of the log-likelihood ratio for coping with a fast changing received signal and noise sample variances, which are considered random variables. First, we analyze the detectability of the conventional generalized log-likelihood ratio (GLLR) scheme when considering fast changing statistics of unknown parameters caused by fast fading effects. Secondly, we propose an efficient sensing algorithm for performing the sequential probability ratio test in a robust and efficient manner when the channel statistics are unknown. Finally, the proposed scheme is compared to the conventional method with simulation results with respect to the average number of samples required to reach a detection decision.
Abstract: This paper presents a 24 watts SEPIC converter design
and control using microprocessor. SEPIC converter has advantages of
a wide input range and miniaturization caused by the low stress at
elements. There is also an advantage that the input and output are
isolated in MOSFET-off state. This paper presents the PID control
through the SEPIC converter transfer function using a DSP and the
protective circuit for fuel cell from the over-current and
inverse-voltage by using the characteristic of SEPIC converter. Then it
derives them through the experiments.
Abstract: Wireless capsule Endoscopy (WCE) has rapidly
shown its wide applications in medical domain last ten years
thanks to its noninvasiveness for patients and support for thorough
inspection through a patient-s entire digestive system including
small intestine. However, one of the main barriers to efficient
clinical inspection procedure is that it requires large amount of
effort for clinicians to inspect huge data collected during the
examination, i.e., over 55,000 frames in video. In this paper, we
propose a method to compute meaningful motion changes of
WCE by analyzing the obtained video frames based on regional
optical flow estimations. The computed motion vectors are used to
remove duplicate video frames caused by WCE-s imaging nature,
such as repetitive forward-backward motions from peristaltic
movements. The motion vectors are derived by calculating
directional component vectors in four local regions. Our
experiments are performed on small intestine area, which is of
main interest to clinical experts when using WCEs, and our
experimental results show significant frame reductions comparing
with a simple frame-to-frame similarity-based image reduction
method.
Abstract: Since the feasibility study of R&D programs have been
initiated for efficient public R&D investments, year 2008, feasibility
studies have improved in terms of precision. Although experience
related to these studies of R&D programs have increased to a certain
point, still methodological improvement is required. The feasibility
studies of R&D programs are consisted of various viewpoints, such as
technology, policy, and economics. This research is to provide
improvement methods to the economic perspective; especially the cost
estimation process of R&D activities. First of all, the fundamental
concept of cost estimation is reviewed. After the review, a statistical
and econometric analysis method is applied as empirical analysis.
Conclusively, limitations and further research directions are provided.
Abstract: It is important for an autonomous mobile robot to know
where it is in any time in an indoor environment. In this paper, we
design a relative self-localization algorithm. The algorithm compare
the interest point in two images and compute the relative displacement
and orientation to determent the posture. Firstly, we use the SURF
algorithm to extract the interest points of the ceiling. Second, in order
to reduce amount of calculation, a replacement SURF is used to extract
orientation and description of the interest points. At last, according to
the transformation of the interest points in two images, the relative
self-localization of the mobile robot will be estimated greatly.
Abstract: This paper is an extension of a previous work where a diagonally implicit harmonic balance method was developed and applied to simulate oscillatory motions of pitching airfoil and wing. A more detailed study on the accuracy, convergence, and the efficiency of the method is carried out in the current paperby varying the number of harmonics in the solution approximation. As the main advantage of the method is itsusage for the design optimization of the unsteady problems, its application to more practical case of rotor flow analysis during forward flight is carried out and compared with flight test data and time-accurate computation results.
Abstract: The measurement of anesthetic depth is necessary in
anesthesiology. NN10 is very simple method among the RR intervals
analysis methods. NN10 parameter means the numbers of above the 10
ms intervals of the normal to normal RR intervals.
Bispectrum analysis is defined as 2D FFT. EEG signal reflected the
non-linear peristalsis phenomena according to the change brain
function. After analyzing the bispectrum of the 2 dimension, the most
significant power spectrum density peaks appeared abundantly at the
specific area in awakening and anesthesia state. These points are
utilized to create the new index since many peaks appeared at the
specific area in the frequency coordinate. The measured range of an
index was 0-100. An index is 20-50 at an anesthesia, while the index is
90-60 at the awake.
In this paper, the relation between NN10 parameter using ECG and
bisepctrum index using EEG is observed to estimate the depth of
anesthesia during anesthesia and then we estimated the utility of the
anesthetic.
Abstract: Studies on the distribution of traffic demands have
been proceeding by providing traffic information for reducing
greenhouse gases and reinforcing the road's competitiveness in the
transport section, however, since it is preferentially required the
extensive studies on the driver's behavior changing routes and its
influence factors, this study has been developed a discriminant model
for changing routes considering driving conditions including traffic
conditions of roads and driver's preferences for information media. It
is divided into three groups depending on driving conditions in group
classification with the CART analysis, which is statistically
meaningful. And the extent that driving conditions and preferred
media affect a route change is examined through a discriminant
analysis, and it is developed a discriminant model equation to predict a
route change. As a result of building the discriminant model equation,
it is shown that driving conditions affect a route change much more,
the entire discriminant hit ratio is derived as 64.2%, and this
discriminant equation shows high discriminant ability more than a
certain degree.
Abstract: This paper suggests a fast and stable Target Tracking
system in collaborative control of UAV and UGV. Wi-Fi communication range is limited in collaborative control of UAV and UGV. Thus, to secure a stable communications, UAV and UGV have
to be kept within a certain distance from each other. But existing
method which uses UAV Vertical Camera to follow the motion of
UGV is likely to lose a target with a sudden movement change.
Eventually, UGV has disadvantages that it could only move at a low
speed and not make any sudden change of direction in order to keep
track of the target. Therefore, we suggest utilizing AR Drone UAV front camera to track fast-moving and Omnidirectional Mecanum
Wheel UGV.
Abstract: This study is to evaluate the behavior of integral and
segmental specimens through static and cyclic tests. Integral
specimens were made with the same size to be compared with
segmental specimens that were made by connected precast members.
To evaluate its bending performance and serviceability, 1 integral and
3 segmental specimens were tested under static load. And 1 integral
and 2 segmental specimens were tested under cyclic load, respectively.
Different load ranges were considered in the cyclic tests to evaluate the
safety and serviceability. The test results showed that under static
loading, segmental specimens had about 94% of the integral
specimen's maximum moment, averagely. Under cyclic loading, the
segmental specimens showed that had enough safety in the range of
higher than service load and enough serviceability. In conclusion, the
maximum crack width (0.16mm) satisfied the allowable crack width
(0.30mm) in the range of service load.
Abstract: Histogram equalization is often used in image enhancement, but it can be also used in auto exposure. However, conventional histogram equalization does not work well when many pixels are concentrated in a narrow luminance range. This paper proposes an auto exposure method based on 2-way histogram equalization. Two cumulative distribution functions are used, where one is from dark to bright and the other is from bright to dark. In this paper, the proposed auto exposure method is also designed and implemented for image signal processors with full-HD images.
