Abstract: One of the major problems facing education in Nigeria is the provision of quality Science and Technology education. Inadequate teaching facilities, non-usage of innovative teaching strategies, ineffective classroom management, lack of students’ motivation and poor integration of ICT has resulted in the increase in percentage of students who failed Basic Science and Technology in Junior Secondary Certification Examination for National Examination Council in Nigeria. To address these challenges, the Federal Government came up with a road map on education. This was with a view of enhancing quality education through integration of modern technology into teaching and learning, enhancing quality assurance through proper monitoring and introduction of innovative methods of teaching. This led the researcher to investigate how MOODLE LMS could be used to enhance students’ learning outcomes in BST. A sample of 120 students was purposively selected from four secondary schools in Ogbomoso. The experimental group was taught using MOODLE LMS, while the control group was taught using the conventional method. Data obtained were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and t-test. Abstract: This paper aims to teach English (secondary language) by bridging the understanding between the Regional language (primary language) and the English Language (secondary language). Here primary language is the one a person has learned from birth or within the critical period, while secondary language would be any other language one learns or speaks. The paper also focuses on evolving old teaching methods to a contemporary participatory model of learning and teaching. Pilot studies were conducted to gauge an understanding of student’s knowledge of the English language. Teachers and students were interviewed and their academic curriculum was assessed as a part of the initial study. Extensive literature study and design thinking principles were used to devise a solution to the problem. The objective is met using a holistic learning kit/card game to teach children word recognition, word pronunciation, word spelling and writing words. Implication of the paper is a noticeable improvement in the understanding and grasping of English language. With increasing usage and applicability of English as a second language (ESL) world over, the paper becomes relevant due to its easy replicability to any other primary or secondary language. Future scope of this paper would be transforming the idea of participatory learning into self-regulated learning methods. With the upcoming govt. learning centres in rural areas and provision of smart devices such as tablets, the development of the card games into digital applications seems very feasible.
Abstract: This paper discusses the use of a template-based
approach for documenting high-quality requirements as part of course
projects in an undergraduate Software Engineering course. In order
to ease some of the Requirements Engineering activities that are
performed when defining requirements by using the template, a new
CASE tool, RED:WIRE, was first developed and later tested by
students attending the course. Two questionnaires were conceived
around a study that aims to analyze the new tool’s learnability as
well as other obtained results concerning its usability in particular
and the Requirements Engineering skills developed by the students
in general.
Abstract: The study investigates the conceptual and procedural knowledge of rational number in primary school teachers, specifically, the primary school teachers level of conceptual knowledge about rational number and the primary school teachers level of procedural knowledge about rational numbers. The study was carried out in Bauchi metropolis in Bauchi state of Nigeria. A Conceptual and Procedural Knowledge Test was used as the instrument for data collection, 54 mathematics teachers in Bauchi primary schools were involved in the study. The collections were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The findings revealed that the primary school mathematics teachers in Bauchi metropolis posses a low level of conceptual knowledge of rational number and also possess a high level of Procedural knowledge of rational number. It is therefore recommended that to be effective, teachers teaching mathematics most posses a deep understanding of both conceptual and procedural knowledge. That way the most knowledgeable teachers in mathematics deliver highly effective rational number instructions. Teachers should not ignore the mathematical concept aspect of rational number teaching. This is because only the procedural aspect of Rational number is highlighted during instructions; this often leads to rote - learning of procedures without understanding the meanings. It is necessary for teachers to learn rational numbers teaching method that focus on both conceptual knowledge and procedural knowledge teaching.
Abstract: This paper discusses the Chinese Language Teaching as a Second Language by focusing on Immersion Teaching. Researchers used narrative literature review to describe the current states of both art and science in focused areas of inquiry. Immersion teaching comes with a standard that teachers must reliably meet. Chinese language-immersion instruction consists of language and content lessons, including functional usage of the language, academic language, authentic language, and correct Chinese sociocultural language. Researchers used narrative literature reviews to build a scientific knowledge base. Researchers collected all the important points of discussion, and put them here with reference to the specific field where this paper is originally based on. The findings show that Chinese Language in immersion teaching is not like standard foreign language classroom; immersion setting provides more opportunities to teach students colloquial language than academic. Immersion techniques also introduce a language’s cultural and social contexts in a meaningful and memorable way. It is particularly important that immersion teachers connect classwork with real-life experiences. Immersion also includes more elements of discovery and inquiry based learning than do other kinds of instructional practices. Students are always and consistently interpreted the conclusions and context clues.
Abstract: Dan C. Lortie’s Schoolteacher: A sociological study is
one of the best works on the sociology of teaching since W. Waller’s
classic study. It is a book worthy of review. Following the tradition of
symbolic interactionists, Lortie demonstrated the qualities who studied
the occupation of teaching. Using several methods to gather effective
data, Lortie has portrayed the ethos of the teaching profession.
Therefore, the work is an important book on the teaching profession
and teacher culture. Though outstanding, Lortie’s work is also flawed
in that his perspectives and methodology were adopted largely from
symbolic interactionism. First, Lortie in his work analyzed many
points regarding teacher culture; for example, he was interested in
exploring “sentiment,” “cathexis,” and “ethos.” Thus, he was more a
psychologist than a sociologist. Second, symbolic interactionism led
him to discern the teacher culture from a micro view, thereby missing
the structural aspects. For example, he did not fully discuss the issue of
gender and he ignored the issue of race. Finally, following the
qualitative sociological tradition, Lortie employed many qualitative
methods to gather data but only foucused on obtaining and presenting
interview data. Moreover, he used measurement methods that were too
simplistic for analyzing quantitative data fully.
Abstract: Method of combined teaching laws of classical
mechanics and hydrostatics in non-inertial reference frames for
undergraduate students is proposed. Pressure distribution in a liquid
(or gas) moving with acceleration is considered. Combined effect of
hydrostatic force and force of inertia on a body immersed in a liquid
can lead to paradoxical results, in a motion of pendulum in particular.
The body motion under Stokes force influence and forces in rotating
reference frames are investigated as well. Problems and difficulties in
student perceptions are analyzed.
Abstract: This paper directs attention to the limitations of the
teacher-centered strategy in teaching. The aim of this study is to draw
more educational attention to learner-centered strategy in order to
shift the emphasis from the traditional concept of teaching to a new
concept in teaching. To begin bridging the traditional concept of
teaching and the new concept, the study will explore the new concept
of teaching to support teaching in Arab World generally and in Iraq
specifically. A qualitative case study orientation was used to collect
data in the form of classroom observations, interviews and field
notes. The teaching practices used by three university instructors are
investigated and according to the findings, some explanations and
recommendations are made.
Abstract: This study was conducted to examine the effectiveness of Teaching Games For Understanding (TGFU) in improving the hockey tactical skills and state self-confidence among 16-year-old students. Two hundred fifty-nine (259) school students were selected for the study based on the intact sampling method. One class was used as the control group (Boys=60, Girls=70), while another as the treatment group (Boys=60, Girls=69) underwent intervention with TGFU in physical education class conducted twice a week for four weeks. The Games Performance Assessment Instrument was used to observe the hockey tactical skills and The State Self-Confidence Inventory was used to determine the state of self-confidence among the students. Abstract: The purpose of this study is to identify the teaching method practices of the practical work subject in Vocational Secondary School. This study examined the practice of Vocational Teaching Method in Automotive Practical Work. The quantitative method used the sets of the questionnaire. 283 students and 63 teachers involved from ten VSS involved in this research. Research finding showed in conducting the introduction session teachers prefer used the demonstration method and questioning technique. While in deliver the content of practical task, teachers applied group monitoring and problem solving approach. To conclude the task of automotive practical work, teachers choose re-explain and report writing to make sure students really understand all the process of teaching. VTM-APW also involved the competency-based concept to embed in the model. Derived from factors investigated, research produced the combination of elements in teaching skills and vocational skills which could be used as the best teaching method in automotive practical work for school level. As conclusion this study has concluded that the VTM-APW model is able to apply in teaching to make an improvement with current practices in Vocational Secondary School. Hence, teachers are suggested to use this method to enhance student's knowledge in Automotive and teachers will deliver skills to the current and future workforce relevant with the required competency skilled in workplace.
Abstract: Constructivism, the latest teaching and learning theory in western countries which is based on the premise that cognition (learning) is the result of "mental construction", lays emphasis on the learner's active learning. Guided by constructivism, this thesis discusses the teaching plan and its application in extensive reading course. In extensive reading classroom, emphasis should be laid on the activation of students' prior knowledge, grasping the skills of fast reading and the combination of reading and writing to check extracurricular reading. With three factors supplementing each other, students' English reading ability can be improved effectively.
Abstract: This paper presents the Virtual Science Hub platform. It is an open source platform that combines a social network, an e-learning authoring tool, a videoconference service and a learning object repository for science teaching enrichment. These four main functionalities fit very well together. The platform was released in April 2012 and since then it has not stopped growing. Finally we present the results of the surveys conducted and the statistics gathered to validate this approach.
Abstract: The paper is the first output of a larger research project conducted at the Faculty of Education of the University of Hradec Králové, which deals with an improved understanding of teachers' work in the subject of National History and Geography. Partial findings focusing on the use of didactic material resources in teaching are presented in this phase. With the regard to promotion of independent activity of students within learner based education, material equipment of schools with didactic aids is becoming increasingly important. This paper is based on qualitative research, where the possibilities and mainly the reasons for use of material didactic resources in teaching were investigated through semi-structured interviews. Attention was focused on ways of working with different teaching aids and their implementation in the educational process. It turns out that teachers accept current constructivist and humanistic approaches to education associated with the requirement to prepare students for life in an information society, and accordingly they adjust their teaching.
Abstract: Descriptive statistics was performed with the aim to achieve research objective of to investigate lecturers- usage of the mobile technology for teaching. A representative sample of 20 lecturers from the Faculty of Industrial Art & Design Technology of Universiti Industri Selangor (UNISEL), Malaysia was selected as the respondents. The result attested that lecturers fully accept the concept of mobility in learning and game play is appealing concept to support classroom learning. Subsequently, analogous experience on small size of keypad, screen resolution, and navigation could be the major problematic factors to students and affect their mobile learning process. Recommendation for future research is also presented.

It is impossible to have full benefit from conventional WBL. Understanding of rote student-s intention and what influences it becomes important. Poorly designed user interface will discourage rote student-s cultivation and intention to use WBL. Thus, user interface design is an important factor especially when WBL is used as comprehensive replacement of conventional teaching. This research proposes the influencing factors that can enhance student-s intention to use the system. The enhanced TAM is used for evaluating the proposed factors. The research result points out that factors influencing rote student-s intention are Perceived Usefulness of Homepage Content Structure, Perceived User Friendly Interface, Perceived Hedonic Component, and Perceived (homepage) Visual Attractiveness.
Abstract: This paper presents an assessment study conducted
among the distance learners in India. Open and distance learning
systems have traveled a long way since its inception and its journey
has witnessed the evolution and adoption of different generations of
technology. This study focuses on the distant learners in India.
Sampling for this study has been derived from the mass enrollment
from Tamil Nadu area, a southern state of India. Learners were
chosen from dual mode universities, private universities, Tamil Nadu
Open University and IGNOU. The main focus of the study is to
examine the coverage and appropriation of students support services
and learning aids. It explores two aspects: the facilities available and
the awareness and use of such services. It includes, self-learning
materials, face-to-face counseling, multimedia learning materials,
website, e-learning, radio and television services etc. While exploring
the student-s perspective on these learning aspects, it is important to
understand the perspectives of the teachers. Two different interests
are visible among the teachers. Majority of the teachers support faceto-
face counseling. However, the young teachers are in favour of
online learning and multimedia supports in teaching. Through the
awareness is somewhat high, the actual participation in online is very
low. This is due to the inadequate infrastructure as well as the
traditional attitudes of the teachers. Still the face-to-face sessions
remain popular than online.

Abstract: Based on 276 responses from academic staff in an
evaluation of an online learning environment (OLE), this paper
identifies those elements of the OLE that were most used and valued
by staff, those elements of the OLE that staff most wanted to see
improved, and those factors that most contributed to staff perceptions
that the use of the OLE enhanced their teaching. The most used and
valued elements were core functions, including accessing unit
information, accessing lecture/tutorial/lab notes, and reading online
discussions. The elements identified as most needing attention related
to online assessment: submitting assignments, managing assessment
items, and receiving feedback on assignments. Staff felt that using the
OLE enhanced their teaching when they were satisfied that their
students were able to access and use their learning materials, and
when they were satisfied with the professional development they
received and were confident with their ability to teach with the OLE.

Abstract: The objective of this project is to produce computer
assisted instruction(CAI) for welding and brazing in order to
determine the efficiency of the instruction package and the study
accomplishment of learner by studying through computer assisted
instruction for welding and brazing it was examined through the
target group surveyed from the 30 students studying in the two year
of 5-year-academic program, department of production technology
education, faculty of industrial education and technology, king
mongkut-s university of technology thonburi. The result of the
research indicated that the media evaluated by experts and subject
matter quality evaluation of computer assisted instruction for welding
and brazing was in line for the good criterion. The mean of score
evaluated before the study, during the study and after the study was
34.58, 83.33 and 83.43, respectively. The efficiency of the lesson was
83.33/83.43 which was higher than the expected value, 80/80. The
study accomplishment of the learner, who utilizes computer assisted
instruction for welding and brazing as a media, was higher and equal
to the significance statistical level of 95%. The value was 1.669
which was equal to 35.36>1.669. It could be summarized that
computer assisted instruction for welding and brazing was the
efficient media to use for studying and teaching.
