Abstract: Recently, many web services to provide information for public transport are developed and released. They are optimized for mobile devices such a smartphone. We are also developing better path planning system for route buses and trains called “Bus-Net"[1]. However these systems only provide paths and related information before the user start moving. So we propose a context aware navigation to change the way to support public transport users. If we go to somewhere using many kinds of public transport, we have to know how to use them. In addition, public transport is dynamic system, and these have different characteristic by type. So we need information at real-time. Therefore we suggest the system that can support on user-s state. It has a variety of ways to help public transport users by each state, like turn-by-turn navigation. Context aware navigation will be able to reduce anxiety for using public transport.
Abstract: Advancement in Artificial Intelligence has lead to the
developments of various “smart" devices. Character recognition
device is one of such smart devices that acquire partial human
intelligence with the ability to capture and recognize various
characters in different languages. Firstly multiscale neural training
with modifications in the input training vectors is adopted in this
paper to acquire its advantage in training higher resolution character
images. Secondly selective thresholding using minimum distance
technique is proposed to be used to increase the level of accuracy of
character recognition. A simulator program (a GUI) is designed in
such a way that the characters can be located on any spot on the
blank paper in which the characters are written. The results show that
such methods with moderate level of training epochs can produce
accuracies of at least 85% and more for handwritten upper case
English characters and numerals.
Abstract: Social, mobility and information aggregation inside
business environment need to converge to reach the next step of
collaboration to enhance interaction and innovation. The following
article is based on the “Assemblage" concept seen as a framework to
formalize new user interfaces and applications. The area of research
is the Energy Social Business Environment, especially the Energy
Smart Grids, which are considered as functional and technical
foundations of the revolution of the Energy Sector of tomorrow. The
assemblages are modelized by means of mereology and simplicial
complexes. Its objective is to offer new central attention and
decision-making tools to end-users.
Abstract: The main idea behind in network aggregation is that,
rather than sending individual data items from sensors to sinks,
multiple data items are aggregated as they are forwarded by the
sensor network. Existing sensor network data aggregation techniques
assume that the nodes are preprogrammed and send data to a central
sink for offline querying and analysis. This approach faces two major
drawbacks. First, the system behavior is preprogrammed and cannot
be modified on the fly. Second, the increased energy wastage due to
the communication overhead will result in decreasing the overall
system lifetime. Thus, energy conservation is of prime consideration
in sensor network protocols in order to maximize the network-s
operational lifetime. In this paper, we give an energy efficient
approach to query processing by implementing new optimization
techniques applied to in-network aggregation. We first discuss earlier
approaches in sensors data management and highlight their
disadvantages. We then present our approach “Energy Efficient
Indexed Aggregation" (EEIA) and evaluate it through several
simulations to prove its efficiency, competence and effectiveness.
Abstract: Recently, with the appearance of smart cards, many
user authentication protocols using smart card have been proposed to
mitigate the vulnerabilities in user authentication process. In 2004,
Das et al. proposed a ID-based user authentication protocol that is
secure against ID-theft and replay attack using smart card. In 2009,
Wang et al. showed that Das et al.-s protocol is not secure to randomly
chosen password attack and impersonation attack, and proposed an
improved protocol. Their protocol provided mutual authentication and
efficient password management. In this paper, we analyze the security
weaknesses and point out the vulnerabilities of Wang et al.-s protocol.
Abstract: In this paper, a Smart Home Service Robot, McBot II,
which performs mess-cleanup function etc. in house, is designed much
more optimally than other service robots. It is newly developed in
much more practical system than McBot I which we had developed
two years ago. One characteristic attribute of mobile platforms
equipped with a set of dependent wheels is their omni- directionality
and the ability to realize complex translational and rotational
trajectories for agile navigation in door. An accurate coordination of
steering angle and spinning rate of each wheel is necessary for a
consistent motion. This paper develops trajectory controller of
3-wheels omni-directional mobile robot using fuzzy azimuth estimator.
A specialized anthropomorphic robot manipulator which can be
attached to the housemaid robot McBot II, is developed in this paper.
This built-in type manipulator consists of both arms with 3 DOF
(Degree of Freedom) each and both hands with 3 DOF each. The
robotic arm is optimally designed to satisfy both the minimum
mechanical size and the maximum workspace. Minimum mass and
length are required for the built-in cooperated-arms system. But that
makes the workspace so small. This paper proposes optimal design
method to overcome the problem by using neck joint to move the arms
horizontally forward/backward and waist joint to move them
vertically up/down. The robotic hand, which has two fingers and a
thumb, is also optimally designed in task-based concept. Finally, the
good performance of the developed McBot II is confirmed through
live tests of the mess-cleanup task.
Abstract: This paper presents a wrap-around view system with 4
smart cameras module and remote motion mobile robot control equipped with smart camera module system. The two-level scheme for
remote motion control with smart-pad(IPAD) is introduced on this
paper. In the low-level, the wrap-around view system is controlled or operated to keep the reference points lying around top view image
plane. On the higher level, a robot image based motion controller is utilized to drive the mobile platform to reach the desired position or
track the desired motion planning through image feature feedback. The
design wrap-around view system equipped on presents such advantages as follows: 1) a satisfactory solution for the FOV and affine
problem; 2) free of any complex and constraint with robot pose. The performance of the wrap-around view equipped on mobile robot
remote control is proven by experimental results.
Abstract: Quality of 2D and 3D cross-sectional images produce
by Computed Tomography primarily depend upon the degree of
precision of primary and secondary X-Ray intensity detection.
Traditional method of primary intensity detection is apt to errors.
Recently the X-Ray intensity measurement system along with smart
X-Ray sensors is developed by our group which is able to detect
primary X-Ray intensity unerringly. In this study a new smart X-Ray
sensor is developed using Light-to-Frequency converter TSL230
from Texas Instruments which has numerous advantages in terms of
noiseless data acquisition and transmission. TSL230 construction is
based on a silicon photodiode which converts incoming X-Ray
radiation into the proportional current signal. A current to frequency
converter is attached to this photodiode on a single monolithic CMOS
integrated circuit which provides proportional frequency count to
incoming current signal in the form of the pulse train. The frequency
count is delivered to the center of PICDEM FS USB board with
PIC18F4550 microcontroller mounted on it. With highly compact
electronic hardware, this Demo Board efficiently read the smart
sensor output data. The frequency output approaches overcome
nonlinear behavior of sensors with analog output thus un-attenuated
X-Ray intensities could be measured precisely and better
normalization could be acquired in order to attain high resolution.
Abstract: This paper deals with a new way for designing
external fixators applied in traumatology and orthopaedics. These
fixators can be applied in the treatment of open and unstable
fractures or for lengthening human or animal bones etc. The new
design is based on the development of Ilizarov and other techniques
(i.e. shape and weight optimalization based on composite materials,
application of smart materials, nanotechnology, low x-ray absorption,
antibacterial protection, patient's comfort, reduction in the duration
of the surgical treatment, and cost).
Abstract: Active Vibration Control (AVC) is an important
problem in structures. One of the ways to tackle this problem is to
make the structure smart, adaptive and self-controlling. The objective
of active vibration control is to reduce the vibration of a system by
automatic modification of the system-s structural response. This
paper features the modeling and design of a Periodic Output
Feedback (POF) control technique for the active vibration control of
a flexible Timoshenko cantilever beam for a multivariable case with
2 inputs and 2 outputs by retaining the first 2 dominant vibratory
modes using the smart structure concept. The entire structure is
modeled in state space form using the concept of piezoelectric
theory, Timoshenko beam theory, Finite Element Method (FEM) and
the state space techniques. Simulations are performed in MATLAB.
The effect of placing the sensor / actuator at 2 finite element
locations along the length of the beam is observed. The open loop
responses, closed loop responses and the tip displacements with and
without the controller are obtained and the performance of the smart
system is evaluated for active vibration control.
Abstract: This paper demonstrates the bus location system for
the route bus through the experiment in the real environment. A
bus location system is a system that provides information such as
the bus delay and positions. This system uses actual services and
positions data of buses, and those information should match data
on the database. The system has two possible problems. One, the
system could cost high in preparing devices to get bus positions.
Two, it could be difficult to match services data of buses. To avoid
these problems, we have developed this system at low cost and short
time by using the smart phone with GPS and the bus route system.
This system realizes the path planning considering bus delay and
displaying position of buses on the map. The bus location system
was demonstrated on route buses with smart phones for two months.
Abstract: Smart Dust particles, are small smart materials used for generating weather maps. We investigate question of the optimal number of Smart Dust particles necessary for generating precise, computationally feasible and cost effective 3–D weather maps. We also give an optimal matching algorithm for the generalized scenario, when there are N Smart Dust particles and M ground receivers.
Abstract: The aim of our work is to study phase composition,
particle size and magnetic response of Fe2O3/TiO2 nanocomposites
with respect to the final annealing temperature. Those nanomaterials
are considered as smart catalysts, separable from a liquid/gaseous
phase by applied magnetic field. The starting product was obtained
by an ecologically acceptable route, based on heterogeneous
precipitation of the TiO2 on modified g-Fe2O3 nanocrystals dispersed
in water. The precursor was subsequently annealed on air at
temperatures ranging from 200 oC to 900 oC. The samples were
investigated by synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction (S-PXRD),
magnetic measurements and Mössbauer spectroscopy. As evidenced
by S-PXRD and Mössbauer spectroscopy, increasing the annealing
temperature causes evolution of the phase composition from
anatase/maghemite to rutile/hematite, finally above 700 oC the
pseudobrookite (Fe2TiO5) also forms. The apparent particle size of
the various Fe2O3/TiO2 phases has been determined from the highquality
S-PXRD data by using two different approaches: the Rietveld
refinement and the Debye method. Magnetic response of the samples
is discussed in considering the phase composition and the particle
size.
Abstract: This paper presented the potential of smart phone to
provide support on mapping the indoor asset. The advantage of using
the smart phone to generate the indoor map is that it has the ability to
capture, store and reproduces still or video images; indeed most of us
do have this powerful gadget. The captured images usually used by
maintenance team to save a record for future reference. Here, these
images are used to generate 3D models of an object precisely and
accurately for efficient and effective solution in data gathering. Thus,
it could be a resource for an informative database in asset
management.
Abstract: This paper features the modeling and design of a Fast
Output Sampling (FOS) Feedback control technique for the Active
Vibration Control (AVC) of a smart flexible aluminium cantilever
beam for a Single Input Single Output (SISO) case. Controllers are
designed for the beam by bonding patches of piezoelectric layer as
sensor / actuator to the master structure at different locations along
the length of the beam by retaining the first 2 dominant vibratory
modes. The entire structure is modeled in state space form using the
concept of piezoelectric theory, Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, Finite
Element Method (FEM) and the state space techniques by dividing
the structure into 3, 4, 5 finite elements, thus giving rise to three
types of systems, viz., system 1 (beam divided into 3 finite
elements), system 2 (4 finite elements), system 3 (5 finite elements).
The effect of placing the sensor / actuator at various locations along
the length of the beam for all the 3 types of systems considered is
observed and the conclusions are drawn for the best performance and
for the smallest magnitude of the control input required to control the
vibrations of the beam. Simulations are performed in MATLAB. The
open loop responses, closed loop responses and the tip displacements
with and without the controller are obtained and the performance of
the proposed smart system is evaluated for vibration control.
Abstract: A general stochastic spatial MIMO channel model is
proposed for evaluating various MIMO techniques in this paper. It can
generate MIMO channels complying with various MIMO
configurations such as smart antenna, spatial diversity and spatial
multiplexing. The modeling method produces the stochastic fading
involving delay spread, Doppler spread, DOA (direction of arrival),
AS (angle spread), PAS (power azimuth Spectrum) of the scatterers,
antenna spacing and the wavelength. It can be applied in various
MIMO technique researches flexibly with low computing complexity.
Abstract: Since prestressed concrete members rely on the tensile
strength of the prestressing strands to resist loads, loss of even few
them could result catastrophic. Therefore, it is important to measure
present residual prestress force. Although there are some techniques
for obtaining present prestress force, some problems still remain. One
method is to install load cell in front of anchor head but this may
increase cost. Load cell is a transducer using the elastic material
property. Anchor head is also an elastic material and this might result
in monitoring monitor present prestress force. Features of fiber optic
sensor such as small size, great sensitivity, high durability can assign
sensing function to anchor head. This paper presents the concept of
smart anchor head which acts as load cell and experiment for the
applicability of it. Test results showed the smart anchor head worked
good and strong linear relationship between load and response.
Abstract: According as the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) Industry projects have grown more complex and larger, the number of utilization of BIM for 3D design and simulation is increasing significantly. Therefore, typical applications of BIM such as clash detection and alternative measures based on 3-dimenstional planning are expanded to process management, cost and quantity management, structural analysis, check for regulation, and various domains for virtual design and construction. Presently, commercial BIM software is operated on single-user environment, so initial cost is so high and the investment may be wasted frequently. Cloud computing that is a next-generation internet technology enables simple internet devices (such as PC, Tablet, Smart phone etc) to use services and resources of BIM software. In this paper, we suggested developing method of the BIM software based on cloud computing environment in order to expand utilization of BIM and reduce cost of BIM software. First, for the benchmarking, we surveyed successful case of BIM and cloud computing. And we analyzed needs and opportunities of BIM and cloud computing in AEC Industry. Finally, we suggested main functions of BIM software based on cloud computing environment and developed a simple prototype of cloud computing BIM software for basic BIM model viewing.
