Abstract: This paper proposes a Fuzzy Sliding Mode Control (FSMC) as a control strategy for Buck-Boost DC-DC converter. The proposed fuzzy controller specifies changes in the control signal based on the knowledge of the surface and the surface change to satisfy the sliding mode stability and attraction conditions. The performances of the proposed fuzzy sliding controller are compared to those obtained by a classical sliding mode controller. The satisfactory simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed control law which reduces the chattering phenomenon. Moreover, the obtained results prove the robustness of the proposed control law against variation of the load resistance and the input voltage of the studied converter.
Abstract: In this research, the laminar heat transfer of natural convection on vertical surfaces has been investigated. Most of the studies on natural convection have been considered constantly whereas velocity and temperature domain, do not change with time, transient one are used a lot. Governing equations are solved using a finite volume approach. The convective terms are discretized using the power-law scheme, whereas for diffusive terms the central difference is employed. Coupling between the velocity and pressure is made with SIMPLE algorithm. The resultant system of discretized linear algebraic equations is solved with an alternating direction implicit scheme. Then a configuration of rectangular fins is put in different ways on the surface and heat transfer of natural convection on these surfaces without sliding is studied and finally optimization is done.
Abstract: In this paper; we are interested in dynamic modelling of quadrotor while taking into account the high-order nonholonomic constraints as well as the various physical phenomena, which can influence the dynamics of a flying structure. These permit us to introduce a new state-space representation and new control scheme. We present after the development and the synthesis of a stabilizing control laws design based on sliding mode in order to perform best tracking results. It ensures locally asymptotic stability and desired tracking trajectories. Nonlinear observer is then synthesized in order to estimate the unmeasured states and the effects of the external disturbances such as wind and noise. Finally simulation results are also provided in order to illustrate the performances of the proposed controllers.
Abstract: Numerous divergence measures (spectral distance, cepstral
distance, difference of the cepstral coefficients, Kullback-Leibler
divergence, distance given by the General Likelihood Ratio, distance
defined by the Recursive Bayesian Changepoint Detector and the
Mahalanobis measure) are compared in this study. The measures are
used for detection of abrupt spectral changes in synthetic AR signals
via the sliding window algorithm. Two experiments are performed;
the first is focused on detection of single boundary while the second
concentrates on detection of a couple of boundaries. Accuracy of
detection is judged for each method; the measures are compared
according to results of both experiments.
Abstract: The objective of this paper is to compare the time
specification performance between conventional controller PID and
modern controller SMC for an inverted pendulum system. The goal is
to determine which control strategy delivers better performance with
respect to pendulum-s angle and cart-s position. The inverted
pendulum represents a challenging control problem, which
continually moves toward an uncontrolled state. Two controllers are
presented such as Sliding Mode Control (SMC) and Proportional-
Integral-Derivatives (PID) controllers for controlling the highly
nonlinear system of inverted pendulum model. Simulation study has
been done in Matlab Mfile and simulink environment shows that both
controllers are capable to control multi output inverted pendulum
system successfully. The result shows that Sliding Mode Control
(SMC) produced better response compared to PID control strategies
and the responses are presented in time domain with the details
analysis.
Abstract: In this study, the two dimensional heat conduction
problem for the dry friction clutch disc is modeled mathematically
analysis and is solved numerically using finite element method, to
determine the temperature field when band contacts occurs between
the rubbing surfaces during the operation of an automotive clutch.
Temperature calculation have been made for contact area of different
band width and the results obtained compared with these attained
when complete contact occurs. Furthermore, the effects of slipping
time and sliding velocity function are investigated as well. Both
single and repeated engagements made at regular interval are
considered.
Abstract: The flow field in a centrifugal fan is highly complex
with flow reversal taking place on the suction side of impeller and
diffuser vanes. Generally performance of the centrifugal fan could be
enhanced by judiciously introducing splitter vanes so as to improve
the diffusion process. An extensive numerical whole field analysis on
the effect of splitter vanes placed in discrete regions of suspected
separation points is possible using CFD. This paper examines the
effect of splitter vanes corresponding to various geometrical
locations on the impeller and diffuser. The analysis shows that the
splitter vanes located near the diffuser exit improves the static
pressure recovery across the diffusing domain to a larger extent. Also
it is found that splitter vanes located at the impeller trailing edge and
diffuser leading edge at the mid-span of the circumferential distance
between the blades show a marginal improvement in the static
pressure recovery across the fan. However, splitters provided near to
the suction side of the impeller trailing edge (25% of the
circumferential gap between the impeller blades towards the suction
side), adversely affect the static pressure recovery of the fan.
Abstract: Tribological behavior and wear regimes of ascast
and heattreted Al-Cu-Mg matrix composites containing SiC
particles were studied using a pin-on-disc wear testing apparatus
against an EN32 steel counterface giving emphasis on wear rate as
a function of applied pressures (0.2, 0.6, 1.0 and 1.4 MPa) at
different sliding distances (1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000
meters) and at a fixed sliding speed of 3.35m/s. The results showed
that the composite exhibited lower wear rate than that of the matrix
alloy and the wear rate of the composites is noted to be invariant to
the sliding distance and is reducing by heat treatment. Wear
regimes such as low, mild and severe wear were observed as per the
Archard-s wear calculations. It is very interesting to note that the
mild wear is almost constant in all the wear regimes.
Abstract: This paper seeks to develop simple yet practical and
efficient control scheme that enables cooperating arms to handle a
flexible beam. Specifically the problem studied herein is that of two
arms rigidly grasping a flexible beam and such capable of generating
forces/moments in such away as to move a flexible beam along a
predefined trajectory. The paper develops a sliding mode control law
that provides robustness against model imperfection and uncertainty.
It also provides an implicit stability proof. Simulation results for two
three joint arms moving a flexible beam, are presented to validate the
theoretical results.

To modeling rotating the impeller, sliding mesh (SM) technique was used and standard k-ε model was selected for turbulence closure. Mean tangential, radial and axial velocities and also turbulent kinetic energy (k) and turbulent dissipation rate (ε) in various points of tank was investigated. Results show sensitivity of system to location of interface and radius of 7 to 10cm for interface in the vessel with existence characteristics cause to increase the accuracy of simulation.
Abstract: This paper deals with the comparison between two proposed control strategies for a DC-DC boost converter. The first control is a classical Sliding Mode Control (SMC) and the second one is a distance based Fuzzy Sliding Mode Control (FSMC). The SMC is an analytical control approach based on the boost mathematical model. However, the FSMC is a non-conventional control approach which does not need the controlled system mathematical model. It needs only the measures of the output voltage to perform the control signal. The obtained simulation results show that the two proposed control methods are robust for the case of load resistance and the input voltage variations. However, the proposed FSMC gives a better step voltage response than the one obtained by the SMC.

Abstract: In this paper, a nonlinear model predictive swing-up
and stabilizing sliding controller is proposed for an inverted
pendulum-cart system. In the swing up phase, the nonlinear model
predictive control is formulated as a nonlinear programming problem
with energy based objective function. By solving this problem at
each sampling instant, a sequence of control inputs that optimize the
nonlinear objective function subject to various constraints over a
finite horizon are obtained. Then, this control drives the pendulum to
a predefined neighborhood of the upper equilibrium point, at where
sliding mode based model predictive control is used to stabilize the
systems with the specified constraints. It is shown by the simulations
that, due to the way of formulating the problem, short horizon
lengths are sufficient for attaining the swing up goal.
