Abstract: In this work, we perform numerical simulation of fluid
mixing in a floor-grooved micro-channel with wavy sidewalls which
may impose perturbation on the helical flow induced by the slanted
grooves on the channel floor. The perturbation is caused by separation
vortices in the recesses of the wavy-walled channel as the Reynolds
number is large enough. The results show that the effects of the wavy
sidewalls of the present micromixer on the enhancement of fluid
mixing increase with the increase of Reynolds number. The degree of
mixing increases with the increase of the corrugation angle, until the
angle is greater than 45 degrees. Besides, the pumping pressure of the
micromixer increases with the increase of the corrugation angle
monotonically. Therefore, we would suggest setting the corrugation
angle of the wavy sidewalls to be 45 degrees.
Abstract: We focus on the excitation and propagation properties
of surface plasmon polariton (SPP). We have developed a SPP
excitation device in combination with a grating structures fabricated
by using the scanning probe lithography. Perturbation approach was
used to investigate the coupling properties of SPP with a spatial
harmonic wave supported by a metallic grating. A phase shift grating
SPP coupler has been fabricated and the optical property was
evaluated by the Fraunhofer diffraction formula. We have been
experimentally confirmed the induced stop band by diffraction
measurement. We have also observed the wavenumber shift of the
resonance condition of SPP owing to effect of a phase shift.
Abstract: In this paper, we have applied the homotopy perturbation
method (HPM) for obtaining the analytical solution of unsteady
flow of gas through a porous medium and we have also compared the
findings of this research with some other analytical results. Results
showed a very good agreement between results of HPM and the
numerical solutions of the problem rather than other analytical solutions
which have previously been applied. The results of homotopy
perturbation method are of high accuracy and the method is very
effective and succinct.
Abstract: In this paper, we investigate a class of fuzzy Cohen- Grossberg neural networks with time delays and impulsive effects. By virtue of stochastic analysis, Halanay inequality for stochastic differential equations, we find sufficient conditions for the global exponential square-mean synchronization of the FCGNNs under noise perturbation. In particular, the traditional assumption on the differentiability of the time-varying delays is no longer needed. Finally, a numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the results in this paper.
Abstract: Due to the increasing penetration of wind energy, it is
necessary to possess design tools that are able to simulate the impact
of these installations in utility grids. In order to provide a net
contribution to this issue a detailed wind park model has been
developed and is briefly presented. However, the computational costs
associated with the performance of such a detailed model in
describing the behavior of a wind park composed by a considerable
number of units may render its practical application very difficult. To
overcome this problem integral manifolds theory has been applied to
reduce the order of the detailed wind park model, and therefore
create the conditions for the development of a dynamic equivalent
which is able to retain the relevant dynamics with respect to the
existing a.c. system. In this paper integral manifold method has been
introduced for order reduction. Simulation results of the proposed
method represents that integral manifold method results fit the
detailed model results with a higher precision than singular
perturbation method.
Abstract: A linear system is called a fully fuzzy linear system (FFLS) if quantities in this system are all fuzzy numbers. For the FFLS, we investigate its solution and develop a new approximate method for solving the FFLS. Observing the numerical results, we find that our method is accurate than the iterative Jacobi and Gauss- Seidel methods on approximating the solution of FFLS.
Abstract: This paper addresses parameter and state estimation problem in the presence of the perturbation of observer gain bounded input disturbances for the Lipschitz systems that are linear in unknown parameters and nonlinear in states. A new nonlinear adaptive resilient observer is designed, and its stability conditions based on Lyapunov technique are derived. The gain for this observer is derived systematically using linear matrix inequality approach. A numerical example is provided in which the nonlinear terms depend on unmeasured states. The simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Abstract: A neuron can emit spikes in an irregular time basis and by averaging over a certain time window one would ignore a lot of information. It is known that in the context of fast information processing there is no sufficient time to sample an average firing rate of the spiking neurons. The present work shows that the spiking neurons are capable of computing the radial basis functions by storing the relevant information in the neurons' delays. One of the fundamental findings of the this research also is that when using overlapping receptive fields to encode the data patterns it increases the network-s clustering capacity. The clustering algorithm that is discussed here is interesting from computer science and neuroscience point of view as well as from a perspective.
Abstract: The paper presents the virtual model of the active
suspension system used for improving the dynamic behavior of a
motor vehicle. The study is focused on the design of the control
system, the purpose being to minimize the effect of the road
disturbances (which are considered as perturbations for the control
system). The analysis is performed for a quarter-car model, which
corresponds to the suspension system of the front wheel, by using the
DFC (Design for Control) software solution EASY5 (Engineering
Analysis Systems) of MSC Software. The controller, which is a PIDbased
device, is designed through a parametric optimization with the
Matrix Algebra Tool (MAT), considering the gain factors as design
variables, while the design objective is to minimize the overshoot of
the indicial response.
Abstract: Owing to the stringent environmental legislations,
CO2 capture and sequestration is one of the viable solutions to reduce
the CO2 emissions from various sources. In this context, Ionic liquids
(ILs) are being investigated as suitable absorption media for CO2
capture. Due to their non-evaporative, non-toxic, and non-corrosive
nature, these ILs have the potential to replace the existing solvents
like aqueous amine solutions for CO2 separation technologies. Thus,
the present work aims at studying the important aspects such as the
interactions of CO2 molecule with different anions (F-, Br-, Cl-, NO3
-,
BF4
-, PF6
-, Tf2N-, and CF3SO3
-) that are commonly used in ILs
through molecular modeling. In this, the minimum energy structures
have been obtained using Ab initio based calculations at MP2
(Moller-Plesset perturbation) level. Results revealed various degrees
of distortion of CO2 molecule (from its linearity) with the anions
studied, most likely due to the Lewis acid-base interactions between
CO2 and anion. Furthermore, binding energies for the anion-CO2
complexes were also calculated. The implication of anion-CO2
interactions to the solubility of CO2 in ionic liquids is also discussed.
Abstract: In this paper, we consider the global exponential stability of the equilibrium point of Hopfield neural networks with delays and impulsive perturbation. Some new exponential stability criteria of the system are derived by using the Lyapunov functional method and the linear matrix inequality approach for estimating the upper bound of the derivative of Lyapunov functional. Finally, we illustrate two numerical examples showing the effectiveness of our theoretical results.
Abstract: The author present PID controller design for
following control of hard disk drive by characteristic ratio assignment
method. The study in this paper concerns design of a PID controller
which sufficiently robust to the disturbances and plant perturbations
on following control of hard disk drive. Characteristic Ratio
Assignment (CRA) is shown to be an efficient control technique to
serve this requirement. The controller design by CRA is based on the
choice of the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial of the
closed loop system according to the convenient performance criteria
such as equivalent time constant and ration of characteristic
coefficient. Hence, in this study, CRA method is applied in PID
controller design for following control of hard disk drive. Matlab
simulation results shown that CRA design is fairly stable and robust
whilst giving the convenience in controller-s parameters adjustment.
Abstract: In this paper, the decomposition-aggregation method
is used to carry out connective stability criteria for general linear
composite system via aggregation. The large scale system is
decomposed into a number of subsystems. By associating directed
graphs with dynamic systems in an essential way, we define the
relation between system structure and stability in the sense of
Lyapunov. The stability criteria is then associated with the stability
and system matrices of subsystems as well as those interconnected
terms among subsystems using the concepts of vector differential
inequalities and vector Lyapunov functions. Then, we show that the
stability of each subsystem and stability of the aggregate model
imply connective stability of the overall system. An example is
reported, showing the efficiency of the proposed technique.
Abstract: Dielectric sheet perturbation to the dominant TE111
mode resonant frequency of a circular cavity is studied and presented
in this paper. The dielectric sheet, placed at the middle of the airfilled
cavity, introduces discontinuities and disturbs the configuration
of electromagnetic fields in the cavity. For fixed dimensions of cavity
and fixed thickness of the loading dielectric, the dominant resonant
frequency varies quite linearly with the permittivity of the dielectric.
This quasi-linear relationship is plotted using Maple software and
verified using 3D electromagnetic simulations. Two probes are used
in the simulation for wave excitation into and from the cavity. The
best length of probe is found to be 3 mm, giving the closest resonant
frequency to the one calculated using Maple. A total of fourteen
different dielectrics of permittivity ranging from 1 to 12.9 are tested
one by one in the simulation. The works show very close agreement
between the results from Maple and the simulation. A constant
difference of 0.04 GHz is found between the resonant frequencies
collected during simulation and the ones from Maple. The success of
this project may lead to the possibility of using the middle loaded
cavity at TE111 mode as a microwave non-destructive testing of solid
materials.
Abstract: Optical emission based on excitonic scattering processes becomes important in dense exciton systems in which the average distance between excitons is of the order of a few Bohr radii but still below the exciton screening threshold. The phenomena due to interactions among excited states play significant role in the emission near band edge of the material. The theory of two-exciton collisions for GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well systems is a mild attempt to understand the physics associated with the optical spectra due to excitonic scattering processes in these novel systems. The four typical processes considered give different spectral shape, peak position and temperature dependence of the emission spectra. We have used the theory of scattering together with the second order perturbation theory to derive the radiative power spontaneously emitted at an energy ħω by these processes. The results arrived at are purely qualitative in nature. The intensity of emitted light in quantum well systems varies inversely to the square of temperature, whereas in case of bulk materials it simply decreases with the temperature.
Abstract: Sensory input plays an important role to human
posture control system to initiate strategy in order to counterpart any
unbalance condition and thus, prevent fall. In previous study, joint
stiffness was observed able to describe certain issues regarding to
movement performance. But, correlation between balance ability and
joint stiffness is still remains unknown. In this study, joint stiffening
strategy at ankle and hip were observed under different sensory
manipulations and its correlation with conventional clinical test
(Functional Reach Test) for balance ability was investigated. In order
to create unstable condition, two different surface perturbations (tilt
up-tilt (TT) down and forward-backward (FB)) at four different
frequencies (0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 Hz) were introduced. Furthermore,
four different sensory manipulation conditions (include vision and
vestibular system) were applied to the subject and they were asked to
maintain their position as possible. The results suggested that joint
stiffness were high during difficult balance situation. Less balance
people generated high average joint stiffness compared to balance
people. Besides, adaptation of posture control system under repetitive
external perturbation also suggested less during sensory limited
condition. Overall, analysis of joint stiffening response possible to
predict unbalance situation faced by human
Abstract: The general global behavior of particle S a non-linear (Q - xy)2 potential cannot be revealed a Poincare surface of section method (PSS) because inost trajectories take practically infinitely long time to integrate numerically before they come back to the surface. In this study as an alternative to PSS, a multiple scale perturbation is applied to analyze global adiabatic, non-adiabatic and chaotic behavior of particles in this potential. It was found that the results can be summarized as a form of a Fermi-like map. Additionally, this method gives a variation of global stochasticity criteria with Q.
Abstract: This paper addresses the stabilization issues for a class of uncertain switched neutral systems with nonlinear perturbations. Based on new classes of piecewise Lyapunov functionals, the stability assumption on all the main operators or the convex combination of coefficient matrices is avoid, and a new switching rule is introduced to stabilize the neutral systems. The switching rule is designed from the solution of the so-called Lyapunov-Metzler linear matrix inequalities. Finally, three simulation examples are given to demonstrate the significant improvements over the existing results.
Abstract: To unveil the mechanism of fast autooxidation of fish
myoglobins, the effect of temperature on the structural change of tuna
myoglobin was investigated. Purified myoglobin was subjected to
preincubation at 5, 20, 50 and 40oC. Overall helical structural decay
through thermal treatment up to 95oC was monitored by circular
dichroism spectrometry, while the structural changes around the heme
pocket was measured by ultraviolet/visible absorption spectrophotometry.
As a result, no essential structural change of myoglobin
was observed under 30oC, roughly equivalent to their body
temperature, but the structure was clearly damaged at 40oC. The Soret
band absorption hardly differed irrespective of preincubation
temperature, suggesting that the structure around the heme pocket was
not perturbed even after thermal treatment.
Abstract: This paper aims to establish a delayed dynamical relationship between payoffs of players in a zero-sum game. By introducing Markovian chain and time delay in the network model, a delayed game network model with sector bounds and slope bounds restriction nonlinear function is first proposed. As a result, a direct dynamical relationship between payoffs of players in a zero-sum game can be illustrated through a delayed singular system. Combined with Finsler-s Lemma and Lyapunov stable theory, a sufficient condition guaranteeing the unique existence and stability of zero-sum game-s Nash equilibrium is derived. One numerical example is presented to illustrate the validity of the main result.
