Abstract: Energy dissipation in drops has been investigated by
physical models. After determination of effective parameters on the
phenomenon, three drops with different heights have been
constructed from Plexiglas. They have been installed in two existing
flumes in the hydraulic laboratory. Several runs of physical models
have been undertaken to measured required parameters for
determination of the energy dissipation. Results showed that the
energy dissipation in drops depend on the drop height and discharge.
Predicted relative energy dissipations varied from 10.0% to 94.3%.
This work has also indicated that the energy loss at drop is mainly
due to the mixing of the jet with the pool behind the jet that causes
air bubble entrainment in the flow. Statistical model has been
developed to predict the energy dissipation in vertical drops denotes
nonlinear correlation between effective parameters. Further an
artificial neural networks (ANNs) approach was used in this paper to
develop an explicit procedure for calculating energy loss at drops
using NeuroSolutions. Trained network was able to predict the
response with R2 and RMSE 0.977 and 0.0085 respectively. The
performance of ANN was found effective when compared to
regression equations in predicting the energy loss.

the theory.
Abstract: IMCS is Integrated Monitoring and Control System for
thermal power plant. This system consists of mainly two parts; controllers and OIS (Operator Interface System). These two parts are
connected by Ethernet-based communication. The controller side of communication is managed by CNet module and OIS side is managed
by data server of OIS. CNet module sends the data of controller to data
server and receives commend data from data server. To minimizes or
balance the load of data server, this module buffers data created by controller at every cycle and send buffered data to data server on request of data server. For multiple data server, this module manages
the connection line with each data server and response for each request
from multiple data server. CNet module is included in each controller
of redundant system. When controller fail-over happens on redundant system, this module can provide data of controller to data sever
without loss. This paper presents three main features – separation of get task, usage of ring buffer and monitoring communication status –of CNet module to carry out these functions.
Abstract: Bythe development of the Internet, e-commerce has
got very popular between organizations. E-commerce means buying
and selling products and services over the Internet. One of the
challenging issues in e-commerce is how to attract the customers and
how to satisfy them. Therefore, it is important to keep good
relationship with the customers. This paper proposes a new model to
increase the customer satisfaction by introducing live-operator.
Live-operator is a system which is involved both with the customers
and the organization. In this system the customers feelthatthey receive
the service directly from the organization. This model decreases the
response time and the customer loss. Moreover, it increases customer
trust and the ability of organizations.
Abstract: The problem of ranking (rank regression) has become popular in the machine learning community. This theory relates to problems, in which one has to predict (guess) the order between objects on the basis of vectors describing their observed features. In many ranking algorithms a convex loss function is used instead of the 0-1 loss. It makes these procedures computationally efficient. Hence, convex risk minimizers and their statistical properties are investigated in this paper. Fast rates of convergence are obtained under conditions, that look similarly to the ones from the classification theory. Methods used in this paper come from the theory of U-processes as well as empirical processes.
Abstract: The present study is concerned with effect of exciting
boundary layer on increase in heat transfer from flat surfaces. As any
increase in heat transfer between a fluid inside a face and another one
outside of it can cause an increase in some equipment's efficiency, so
at this present we have tried to increase the wall's heat transfer
coefficient by exciting the fluid boundary layer. By a collision
between flow and the placed block at the fluid way, the flow pattern
and the boundary layer stability will change. The flow way inside the
channel is simulated as a 2&3-dimensional channel by Gambit
TM
software.
With studying the achieved results by this simulation for the flow
way inside the channel with a block coordinating with Fluent
TM
software, it's determined that the figure and dimensions of the exciter
are too important for exciting the boundary layer so that any increase
in block dimensions in vertical side against the flow and any
reduction in its dimensions at the flow side can increase the average
heat transfer coefficient from flat surface and increase the flow
pressure loss. Using 2&3-dimensional analysis on exciting the flow at
the flow way inside a channel by cylindrical block at the same time
with the external flow, we came to this conclusion that the heat flux
transferred from the surface, is increased considerably in terms of the
condition without excitation. Also, the k-e turbulence model is used.
Abstract: This paper proposes a Particle Swarm Optimization
(PSO) based technique for the optimal allocation of Distributed
Generation (DG) units in the power systems. In this paper our aim is
to decide optimal number, type, size and location of DG units for
voltage profile improvement and power loss reduction in distribution
network. Two types of DGs are considered and the distribution load
flow is used to calculate exact loss. Load flow algorithm is combined
appropriately with PSO till access to acceptable results of this
operation. The suggested method is programmed under MATLAB
software. Test results indicate that PSO method can obtain better
results than the simple heuristic search method on the 30-bus and 33-
bus radial distribution systems. It can obtain maximum loss reduction
for each of two types of optimally placed multi-DGs. Moreover,
voltage profile improvement is achieved.
Abstract: The accomplished study is based on the appointment
and identification of ageing effects and according to this absorption
of moisture of aircraft cabin components over the life-cycle. In the
first step of the study ceiling panels from same age and from the
same aircraft cabin have been examined according to weight changes
depending on the position in the aircraft cabin. In the second step of
the study different aged ceiling panels have been examined
concerning deflection, weight changes and the acoustic sound
transmission loss. To prove the assumption of water absorption
within the study and with the theoretical background from literature
and scientific papers, an older test panel was exposed extreme
thermal conditions (humidity and temperature) within a climate
chamber to show that there is a general ingress of water to cabin
components and that this ingress of water leads to the change of
different mechanical properties.
Abstract: This paper proposes a vehicle-to-vehicle propagation
model implemented with SDL. To estimate the channel
characteristics for Inter-Vehicle communication, we first define a
predicted propagation pathloss between the moving vehicles under
three typical scenarios. A Ray-tracing method is used for the simple
gamma model performance.
Abstract: In this paper a fast motion estimation method for
H.264/AVC named Triplet Search Motion Estimation (TS-ME) is
proposed. Similar to some of the traditional fast motion estimation
methods and their improved proposals which restrict the search points
only to some selected candidates to decrease the computation
complexity, proposed algorithm separate the motion search process to
several steps but with some new features. First, proposed algorithm try
to search the real motion area using proposed triplet patterns instead of
some selected search points to avoid dropping into the local minimum.
Then, in the localized motion area a novel 3-step motion search
algorithm is performed. Proposed search patterns are categorized into
three rings on the basis of the distance from the search center. These
three rings are adaptively selected by referencing the surrounding
motion vectors to early terminate the motion search process. On the
other hand, computation reduction for sub pixel motion search is also
discussed considering the appearance probability of the sub pixel
motion vector. From the simulation results, motion estimation speed
improved by a factor of up to 38 when using proposed algorithm than
that of the reference software of H.264/AVC with ignorable picture
quality loss.
Abstract: Human middle-ear is the key component of the
auditory system. Its function is to transfer the sound waves through
the ear canal to provide sufficient stimulus to the fluids of the inner
ear. Degradation of the ossicles that transmit these sound waves from
the eardrum to the inner ear leads to hearing loss. This problem can
be overcome by replacing one or more of these ossicles by middleear
prosthesis. Designing such prosthesis requires a comprehensive
knowledge of the biomechanics of the middle-ear. There are many
finite element modeling approaches developed to understand the
biomechanics of the middle ear. The available models in the
literature, involve high computation time. In this paper, we propose a
simplified model which provides a reasonably accurate result with
much less computational time. Simulation results indicate a
maximum sound pressure gain of 10 dB at 5500 Hz.
Abstract: Because of the low maintenance and robustness induction motors have many applications in the industries. The speed control of induction motor is more important to achieve maximum torque and efficiency. Various speed control techniques like, Direct Torque Control, Sensorless Vector Control and Field Oriented Control are discussed in this paper. Soft computing technique – Fuzzy logic is applied in this paper for the speed control of induction motor to achieve maximum torque with minimum loss. The fuzzy logic controller is implemented using the Field Oriented Control technique as it provides better control of motor torque with high dynamic performance. The motor model is designed and membership functions are chosen according to the parameters of the motor model. The simulated design is tested using various tool boxes in MATLAB. The result concludes that the efficiency and reliability of the proposed speed controller is good.
Abstract: A reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) model has been built for acid gas removal plant for system analysis that will play an important role in any process modifications, if required, for achieving its optimum performance. Due to the complexity of the plant, the model was based on a Reliability Block Diagram (RBD) with a Monte Carlo simulation engine. The model has been validated against actual plant data as well as local expert opinions, resulting in an acceptable simulation model. The results from the model showed that the operation and maintenance can be further improved, resulting in reduction of the annual production loss.

Abstract: Optimal reactive power flow is an optimization problem
with one or more objective of minimizing the active power losses for
fixed generation schedule. The control variables are generator bus
voltages, transformer tap settings and reactive power output of the
compensating devices placed on different bus bars. Biogeography-
Based Optimization (BBO) technique has been applied to solve
different kinds of optimal reactive power flow problems subject
to operational constraints like power balance constraint, line flow
and bus voltages limits etc. BBO searches for the global optimum
mainly through two steps: Migration and Mutation. In the present
work, BBO has been applied to solve the optimal reactive power
flow problems on IEEE 30-bus and standard IEEE 57-bus power
systems for minimization of active power loss. The superiority of the
proposed method has been demonstrated. Considering the quality of
the solution obtained, the proposed method seems to be a promising
one for solving these problems.
Abstract: This paper presents the findings of two experiments that were performed on the Redundancy in Wireless Connection Model (RiWC) using the 802.11b standard. The experiments were simulated using OPNET 11.5 Modeler software. The first was aimed at finding the maximum number of simultaneous Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) users the model would support under the G.711 and G.729 codec standards when the packetization interval was 10 milliseconds (ms). The second experiment examined the model?s VoIP user capacity using the G.729 codec standard along with background traffic using the same packetization interval as in the first experiment. To determine the capacity of the model under various experiments, we checked three metrics: jitter, delay and data loss. When background traffic was added, we checked the response time in addition to the previous three metrics. The findings of the first experiment indicated that the maximum number of simultaneous VoIP users the model was able to support was 5, which is consistent with recent research findings. When using the G.729 codec, the model was able to support up to 16 VoIP users; similar experiments in current literature have indicated a maximum of 7 users. The finding of the second experiment demonstrated that the maximum number of VoIP users the model was able to support was 12, with the existence of background traffic.
