Abstract: In this paper, the joint optimization of the
economic manufacturing quantity (EMQ), safety stock level,
and condition-based maintenance (CBM) is presented for a partially
observable, deteriorating system subject to random failure. The
demand is stochastic and it is described by a Poisson process.
The stochastic model is developed and the optimization problem
is formulated in the semi-Markov decision process framework. A
modification of the policy iteration algorithm is developed to find
the optimal policy. A numerical example is presented to compare
the optimal policy with the policy considering zero safety stock.
Abstract: We model the process of a data center as a multi- objective problem of mapping independent tasks onto a set of data center machines that simultaneously minimizes the energy consump¬tion and response time (makespan) subject to the constraints of deadlines and architectural requirements. A simple technique based on multi-objective goal programming is proposed that guarantees Pareto optimal solution with excellence in convergence process. The proposed technique also is compared with other traditional approach. The simulation results show that the proposed technique achieves superior performance compared to the min-min heuristics, and com¬petitive performance relative to the optimal solution implemented in UNDO for small-scale problems.
Abstract: In this paper, a joint source-channel coding (JSCC) scheme for time-varying channels is presented. The proposed scheme uses hierarchical framework for both source encoder and transmission via QAM modulation. Hierarchical joint source channel codes with hierarchical QAM constellations are designed to track the channel variations which yields to a higher throughput by adapting certain parameters of the receiver to the channel variation. We consider the problem of still image transmission over time-varying channels with channel state information (CSI) available at 1) receiver only and 2) both transmitter and receiver being informed about the state of the channel. We describe an algorithm that optimizes hierarchical source codebooks by minimizing the distortion due to source quantizer and channel impairments. Simulation results, based on image representation, show that, the proposed hierarchical system outperforms the conventional schemes based on a single-modulator and channel optimized source coding.
Abstract: The goal of this paper is to develop a model to
integrate “pricing" and “advertisement" for short life cycle products,
such as branded fashion clothing products. To achieve this goal, we
apply the concept of “Dynamic Pricing". There are two classes of
advertisements, for the brand (regardless of product) and for a
particular product. Advertising the brand affects the demand and
price of all the products. Thus, the model considers all these products
in relation with each other. We develop two different methods to
integrate both types of advertisement and pricing. The first model is
developed within the framework of dynamic programming. However,
due to the complexity of the model, this method cannot be applicable
for large size problems. Therefore, we develop another method,
called hieratical approach, which is capable of handling the real
world problems. Finally, we show the accuracy of this method, both
theoretically and also by simulation.
Abstract: Traffic Engineering (TE) is the process of controlling
how traffic flows through a network in order to facilitate efficient and
reliable network operations while simultaneously optimizing network
resource utilization and traffic performance. TE improves the
management of data traffic within a network and provides the better
utilization of network resources. Many research works considers intra
and inter Traffic Engineering separately. But in reality one influences
the other. Hence the effective network performances of both inter and
intra Autonomous Systems (AS) are not optimized properly. To
achieve a better Joint Optimization of both Intra and Inter AS TE, we
propose a joint Optimization technique by considering intra-AS
features during inter – AS TE and vice versa. This work considers the
important criterion say latency within an AS and between ASes. and
proposes a Bi-Criteria Latency optimization model. Hence an overall
network performance can be improved by considering this jointoptimization
technique in terms of Latency.
Abstract: With data centers, end-users can realize the pervasiveness of services that will be one day the cornerstone of our lives. However, data centers are often classified as computing systems that consume the most amounts of power. To circumvent such a problem, we propose a self-adaptive weighted sum methodology that jointly optimizes the performance and power consumption of any given data center. Compared to traditional methodologies for multi-objective optimization problems, the proposed self-adaptive weighted sum technique does not rely on a systematical change of weights during the optimization procedure. The proposed technique is compared with the greedy and LR heuristics for large-scale problems, and the optimal solution for small-scale problems implemented in LINDO. the experimental results revealed that the proposed selfadaptive weighted sum technique outperforms both of the heuristics and projects a competitive performance compared to the optimal solution.
