Abstract: The psychological present has an actual extension.
When a sequence of instantaneous stimuli falls in this short interval
of time, observers perceive a compresence of events in succession
and the temporal order depends on the qualitative relationships
between the perceptual properties of the events. Two experiments
were carried out to study the influence of perceptual grouping, with
and without temporal displacement, on the duration of auditory
sequences. The psychophysical method of adjustment was adopted.
The first experiment investigated the effect of temporal displacement
of a white noise on sequence duration. The second experiment
investigated the effect of temporal displacement, along the pitch
dimension, on temporal shortening of sequence. The results suggest
that the temporal order of sounds, in the case of temporal
displacement, is organized along the pitch dimension.
Abstract: Subjective time perception implies connection to cognitive functions, attention, memory and awareness, but a little is known about connections with homeostatic states of the body coordinated by circadian clock. In this paper, we present results from experimental study of subjective time perception in volunteers performing physical activity on treadmill in various phases of their circadian rhythms. Subjects were exposed to several time illusions simulated by programmed timing systems. This study brings better understanding for further improvement of of work quality in isolated areas.
Abstract: A comprehensive study of object recognition in the human brain requires combining both spatial and temporal analysis of brain activity. Here, we are mainly interested in three issues: the time perception of visual objects, the ability of discrimination between two particular categories (objects vs. animals), and the possibility to identify a particular spatial representation of visual objects. Our experiment consisted of acquiring dense electroencephalographic (EEG) signals during a picture-naming task comprising a set of objects and animals’ images. These EEG responses were recorded from nine participants. In order to determine the time perception of the presented visual stimulus, we analyzed the Event Related Potentials (ERPs) derived from the recorded EEG signals. The analysis of these signals showed that the brain perceives animals and objects with different time instants. Concerning the discrimination of the two categories, the support vector machine (SVM) was applied on the instantaneous EEG (excellent temporal resolution: on the order of millisecond) to categorize the visual stimuli into two different classes. The spatial differences between the evoked responses of the two categories were also investigated. The results showed a variation of the neural activity with the properties of the visual input. Results showed also the existence of a spatial pattern of electrodes over particular regions of the scalp in correspondence to their responses to the visual inputs.
Abstract: Self-driving vehicle require a high level of situational
awareness in order to maneuver safely when driving in real world
condition. This paper presents a LiDAR based real time perception
system that is able to process sensor raw data for multiple target
detection and tracking in dynamic environment. The proposed
algorithm is nonparametric and deterministic that is no assumptions
and priori knowledge are needed from the input data and no
initializations are required. Additionally, the proposed method is
working on the three-dimensional data directly generated by LiDAR
while not scarifying the rich information contained in the domain of
3D. Moreover, a fast and efficient for real time clustering algorithm
is applied based on a radially bounded nearest neighbor (RBNN).
Hungarian algorithm procedure and adaptive Kalman filtering are
used for data association and tracking algorithm. The proposed
algorithm is able to run in real time with average run time of 70ms
per frame.
