Abstract: This study developed a method for teaching
acupuncture manipulation in small groups optimized with the
theory of motor learning. Sixty acupuncture students and their
teacher participated in our research. Motion videos were recorded
of their manipulations using the lifting-thrusting method. These
videos were analyzed using Simi Motion software to acquire the
movement parameters of the thumb tip. The parameter velocity
curves along Y axis was used to generate small teaching groups
clustered by a self-organized map (SOM) and K-means. Ten groups
were generated. All the targeted instruction based on the comparative
results groups as well as the videos of teacher and student was
provided to the members of each group respectively. According to
the theory and research of motor learning, the factors or technologies
such as video instruction, observational learning, external focus and
summary feedback were integrated into this teaching method. Such
efforts were desired to improve and enhance the effectiveness of
current acupuncture teaching methods in limited classroom teaching
time and extracurricular training.
Abstract: With the continuous increment of smart meter installations across the globe, the need for processing of the load data is evident. Clustering-based load profiling is built upon the utilization of unsupervised machine learning tools for the purpose of formulating the typical load curves or load profiles. The most commonly used algorithm in the load profiling literature is the K-means. While the algorithm has been successfully tested in a variety of applications, its drawback is the strong dependence in the initialization phase. This paper proposes a novel modified form of the K-means that addresses the aforementioned problem. Simulation results indicate the superiority of the proposed algorithm compared to the K-means.
Abstract: Leukaemia is a blood cancer disease that contributes
to the increment of mortality rate in Malaysia each year. There are
two main categories for leukaemia, which are acute and chronic
leukaemia. The production and development of acute leukaemia cells
occurs rapidly and uncontrollable. Therefore, if the identification of
acute leukaemia cells could be done fast and effectively, proper
treatment and medicine could be delivered. Due to the requirement of
prompt and accurate diagnosis of leukaemia, the current study has
proposed unsupervised pixel segmentation based on clustering
algorithm in order to obtain a fully segmented abnormal white blood
cell (blast) in acute leukaemia image. In order to obtain the
segmented blast, the current study proposed three clustering
algorithms which are k-means, fuzzy c-means and moving k-means
algorithms have been applied on the saturation component image.
Then, median filter and seeded region growing area extraction
algorithms have been applied, to smooth the region of segmented
blast and to remove the large unwanted regions from the image,
respectively. Comparisons among the three clustering algorithms are
made in order to measure the performance of each clustering
algorithm on segmenting the blast area. Based on the good sensitivity
value that has been obtained, the results indicate that moving kmeans
clustering algorithm has successfully produced the fully
segmented blast region in acute leukaemia image. Hence, indicating
that the resultant images could be helpful to haematologists for
further analysis of acute leukaemia.
Abstract: K-Means (KM) is considered one of the major
algorithms widely used in clustering. However, it still has some
problems, and one of them is in its initialization step where it is
normally done randomly. Another problem for KM is that it
converges to local minima. Genetic algorithms are one of the
evolutionary algorithms inspired from nature and utilized in the field
of clustering. In this paper, we propose two algorithms to solve the
initialization problem, Genetic Algorithm Initializes KM (GAIK) and
KM Initializes Genetic Algorithm (KIGA). To show the effectiveness
and efficiency of our algorithms, a comparative study was done
among GAIK, KIGA, Genetic-based Clustering Algorithm (GCA),
and FCM [19].
Abstract: In this article, we propose a methodology for the
characterization of the suspended matter along Algiers-s bay. An
approach by multi layers perceptron (MLP) with training by back
propagation of the gradient optimized by the algorithm of Levenberg
Marquardt (LM) is used. The accent was put on the choice of the
components of the base of training where a comparative study made
for four methods: Random and three alternatives of classification by
K-Means. The samples are taken from suspended matter image,
obtained by analytical model based on polynomial regression by
taking account of in situ measurements. The mask which selects the
zone of interest (water in our case) was carried out by using a multi
spectral classification by ISODATA algorithm. To improve the
result of classification, a cleaning of this mask was carried out using
the tools of mathematical morphology. The results of this study
presented in the forms of curves, tables and of images show the
founded good of our methodology.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose an algorithm to compute
initial cluster centers for K-means clustering. Data in a cell is
partitioned using a cutting plane that divides cell in two smaller cells.
The plane is perpendicular to the data axis with the highest variance
and is designed to reduce the sum squared errors of the two cells as
much as possible, while at the same time keep the two cells far apart
as possible. Cells are partitioned one at a time until the number of
cells equals to the predefined number of clusters, K. The centers of
the K cells become the initial cluster centers for K-means. The
experimental results suggest that the proposed algorithm is effective,
converge to better clustering results than those of the random
initialization method. The research also indicated the proposed
algorithm would greatly improve the likelihood of every cluster
containing some data in it.
Abstract: Initial values of reference vectors have significant influence on recognition accuracy in LVQ. There are several existing techniques, such as SOM and k-means, for setting initial values of reference vectors, each of which has provided some positive results. However, those results are not sufficient for the improvement of recognition accuracy. This study proposes an ACO-used method for initializing reference vectors with an aim to achieve recognition accuracy higher than those obtained through conventional methods. Moreover, we will demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method by applying it to the wine data and English vowel data and comparing its results with those of conventional methods.
Abstract: In this paper, a novel algorithm based on Ridgelet
Transform and support vector machine is proposed for human action
recognition. The Ridgelet transform is a directional multi-resolution
transform and it is more suitable for describing the human action by
performing its directional information to form spatial features
vectors. The dynamic transition between the spatial features is carried
out using both the Principal Component Analysis and clustering
algorithm K-means. First, the Principal Component Analysis is used
to reduce the dimensionality of the obtained vectors. Then, the kmeans
algorithm is then used to perform the obtained vectors to form
the spatio-temporal pattern, called set-of-labels, according to given
periodicity of human action. Finally, a Support Machine classifier is
used to discriminate between the different human actions. Different
tests are conducted on popular Datasets, such as Weizmann and
KTH. The obtained results show that the proposed method provides
more significant accuracy rate and it drives more robustness in very
challenging situations such as lighting changes, scaling and dynamic
environment
