Abstract: Place is a where dimension formed by people-s
relationship with physical settings, individual and group activities,
and meanings. 'Place Attachment', 'Place Identity'and 'Sense of
Place' are some concepts that could describe the quality of people-s
relationships with a place. The concept of Sense of place is used in
studying human-place bonding, attachment and place meaning. Sense
of Place usually is defined as an overarching impression
encompassing the general ways in which people feel about places,
senses it, and assign concepts and values to it. Sense of place is
highlighted in this article as one of the prevailing concepts among
place-based researches. Considering dimensions of sense of place has
always been beneficial for investigating public place attachment and
pro-environmental attitudes towards these places. The creation or
preservation of Sense of place is important in maintaining the quality
of the environment as well as the integrity of human life within it.
While many scholars argued that sense of place is a vague concept,
this paper will summarize and analyze the existing seminal literature.
Therefore, in this paper first the concept of Sense of place and its
characteristics will be examined afterward the scales of Sense of
place will be reviewed and the factors that contribute to form Sense
of place will be evaluated and finally Place Attachment as an
objective dimension for measuring the sense of place will be
described.
Abstract: The object of this work is the probabilistic performance evaluation of safety instrumented systems (SIS), i.e. the average probability of dangerous failure on demand (PFDavg) and the average frequency of failure (PFH), taking into account the uncertainties related to the different parameters that come into play: failure rate (λ), common cause failure proportion (β), diagnostic coverage (DC)... This leads to an accurate and safe assessment of the safety integrity level (SIL) inherent to the safety function performed by such systems. This aim is in keeping with the requirement of the IEC 61508 standard with respect to handling uncertainty. To do this, we propose an approach that combines (1) Monte Carlo simulation and (2) fuzzy sets. Indeed, the first method is appropriate where representative statistical data are available (using pdf of the relating parameters), while the latter applies in the case characterized by vague and subjective information (using membership function). The proposed approach is fully supported with a suitable computer code.
Abstract: In this paper we investigate the watermarking authentication when applied to medical imagery field. We first give an overview of watermarking technology by paying attention to fragile watermarking since it is the usual scheme for authentication. We then analyze the requirements for image authentication and integrity in medical imagery, and we show finally that invertible schemes are the best suited for this particular field. A well known authentication method is studied. This technique is then adapted here for interleaving patient information and message authentication code with medical images in a reversible manner, that is using lossless compression. The resulting scheme enables on a side the exact recovery of the original image that can be unambiguously authenticated, and on the other side, the patient information to be saved or transmitted in a confidential way. To ensure greater security the patient information is encrypted before being embedded into images.

It threatens the system structural integrity and generates serious hazards and economic loses. The safety analysis of the thermal installations, based extensively on the numeric simulation. The simulation analysis using realistic computer codes like Relap5/Mod3.2 will help understand steam boiler thermal-hydraulic behavior during normal and abnormal conditions. In this study, we are interested on the evaluation of the radiant steam boiler assessment and response to loss-of-feedwater accident. Pressure, temperature and flow rate profiles are presented in various steam boiler system components. The obtained results demonstrate the importance and capability of the Relap5/Mod3.2 code in the thermal-hydraulic analysis of the steam boiler facilities.
Abstract: Recently, much research has been conducted for
security for wireless sensor networks and ubiquitous computing.
Security issues such as authentication and data integrity are major
requirements to construct sensor network systems. Advanced
Encryption Standard (AES) is considered as one of candidate
algorithms for data encryption in wireless sensor networks. In this
paper, we will present the hardware architecture to implement low
power AES crypto module. Our low power AES crypto module has
optimized architecture of data encryption unit and key schedule unit
which could be applicable to wireless sensor networks. We also details
low power design methods used to design our low power AES crypto
module.
Abstract: Semantic query optimization consists in restricting the
search space in order to reduce the set of objects of interest for a
query. This paper presents an indexing method based on UB-trees
and a static analysis of the constraints associated to the views of the
database and to any constraint expressed on attributes. The result of
the static analysis is a partitioning of the object space into disjoint
blocks. Through Space Filling Curve (SFC) techniques, each
fragment (block) of the partition is assigned a unique identifier,
enabling the efficient indexing of fragments by UB-trees. The search
space corresponding to a range query is restricted to a subset of the
blocks of the partition. This approach has been developed in the
context of a KB-DBMS but it can be applied to any relational
system.
Abstract: Composite laminates are relatively weak in out of
plane loading, inter-laminar stress, stress concentration near the edge
and stress singularities. This paper develops a new analytical
formulation for laminated composite rotating disc fabricated from
symmetric sequential quasi isotropic layers to predict three
dimensional stress and deformation. This analysis is necessary to
evaluate mechanical integrity of fiber reinforced multi-layer
laminates used for high speed rotating applications such as high
speed impellers. Three dimensional governing equations are written
for rotating composite disc. Explicit solution is obtained with
"Frobenius" expansion series. Based on analytical results, there are
two separate zones of three dimensional stress fields in centre and
edge of rotating disc. For thin discs, out of plane deformations and
stresses are small in comparison with plane ones. For relatively thick
discs deformation and stress fields are three dimensional.
Abstract: Active network was developed to solve the problem of
the current sharing-based network–difficulty in applying new
technology, service or standard, and duplicated operation at several
protocol layers. Active network can transport the packet loaded with
the executable codes, which enables to change the state of the network
node. However, if the network node is placed in the sharing-based
network, security and safety issues should be resolved. To satisfy this
requirement, various security aspects are required such as
authentication, authorization, confidentiality and integrity. Among
these security components, the core factor is the encryption key. As a
result, this study is designed to propose the scheme that manages the
encryption key, which is used to provide security of the
comprehensive active directory, based on the domain.
Abstract: the data quality is a kind of complex and unstructured concept, which is concerned by information systems managers. The reason of this attention is the high amount of Expenses for maintenance and cleaning of the inefficient data. Such a data more than its expenses of lack of quality, cause wrong statistics, analysis and decisions in organizations. Therefor the managers intend to improve the quality of their information systems' data. One of the basic subjects of quality improvement is the evaluation of the amount of it. In this paper, we present a precautionary method, which with its application the data of information systems would have a better quality. Our method would cover different dimensions of data quality; therefor it has necessary integrity. The presented method has tested on three dimensions of accuracy, value-added and believability and the results confirm the improvement and integrity of this method.
Abstract: A simple but effective digital watermarking scheme
utilizing a context adaptive variable length coding (CAVLC) method
is presented for wireless communication system. In the proposed
approach, the watermark bits are embedded in the final non-zero
quantized coefficient of each DCT block, thereby yielding a potential
reduction in the length of the coded block. As a result, the
watermarking scheme not only provides the means to check the
authenticity and integrity of the video stream, but also improves the
compression ratio and therefore reduces both the transmission time
and the storage space requirements of the coded video sequence. The
results confirm that the proposed scheme enables the detection of
malicious tampering attacks and reduces the size of the coded H.264
file. Therefore, the current study is feasible to apply in the video
applications of wireless communication such as 3G system
Abstract: At a time of growing market turbulence and a strong
shifts towards increasingly complex risk models and more stringent audit requirements, it is more critical than ever to maintain the highest quality of financial and credit information. IFC implemented
an approach that helps increase data integrity and quality significantly. This approach is called “Screening". Screening is based on linking information from different sources to identify potential
inconsistencies in key financial and credit data. That, in turn, can help
to ease the trials of portfolio supervision, and improve overall company global reporting and assessment systems. IFC experience
showed that when used regularly, Screening led to improved information.
Abstract: The issue of real-time and reliable report delivery is extremely important for taking effective decision in a real world mission critical Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) based application. The sensor data behaves differently in many ways from the data in traditional databases. WSNs need a mechanism to register, process queries, and disseminate data. In this paper we propose an architectural framework for data placement and management. We propose a reliable and real time approach for data placement and achieving data integrity using self organized sensor clusters. Instead of storing information in individual cluster heads as suggested in some protocols, in our architecture we suggest storing of information of all clusters within a cell in the corresponding base station. For data dissemination and action in the wireless sensor network we propose to use Action and Relay Stations (ARS). To reduce average energy dissipation of sensor nodes, the data is sent to the nearest ARS rather than base station. We have designed our architecture in such a way so as to achieve greater energy savings, enhanced availability and reliability.
Abstract: The demand of hydrocarbons has increased the
construction of pipelines and the protection of the physical and
mechanical integrity of the already existing infrastructure. Corrosion
is the main reason of failures in the pipeline and it is mostly produced
by acid (HCOOCH3). In this basis, a CFD code was used, in order to
study the corrosion of internal wall of hydrocarbons pipeline. In this
situation, the corrosion phenomenon shows a growing deposit, which
causes defect damages (welding or fabrication) at diverse positions
along the pipeline. The solution of the pipeline corrosion is based on
the diminution of the Naphthenic acid.
Abstract: SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), using HTML based
call control messaging which is quite simple and efficient, is being
replaced for VoIP networks recently. As for authentication and
authorization purposes there are many approaches and considerations
for securing SIP to eliminate forgery on the integrity of SIP
messages. On the other hand Elliptic Curve Cryptography has
significant advantages like smaller key sizes, faster computations on
behalf of other Public Key Cryptography (PKC) systems that obtain
data transmission more secure and efficient. In this work a new
approach is proposed for secure SIP authentication by using a public
key exchange mechanism using ECC. Total execution times and
memory requirements of proposed scheme have been improved in
comparison with non-elliptic approaches by adopting elliptic-based
key exchange mechanism.
Abstract: Pipeline infrastructures normally represent high cost of investment and the pipeline must be free from risks that could cause environmental hazard and potential threats to personnel safety. Pipeline integrity such monitoring and management become very crucial to provide unimpeded transportation and avoiding unnecessary production deferment. Thus proper cleaning and inspection is the key to safe and reliable pipeline operation and plays an important role in pipeline integrity management program and has become a standard industry procedure. In view of this, understanding the motion (dynamic behavior), prediction and control of the PIG speed is important in executing pigging operation as it offers significant benefits, such as estimating PIG arrival time at receiving station, planning for suitable pigging operation, and improves efficiency of pigging tasks. The objective of this paper is to review recent developments in speed control system of pipeline PIGs. The review carried out would serve as an industrial application in a form of quick reference of recent developments in pipeline PIG speed control system, and further initiate others to add-in/update the list in the future leading to knowledge based data, and would attract active interest of others to share their view points.
Abstract: Deep cold rolling (DCR) is a cold working process, which easily produces a smooth and work-hardened surface by plastic deformation of surface irregularities. In the present study, the influence of main deep cold rolling process parameters on the surface roughness and the hardness of AISI 4140 steel were studied by using fractional factorial design of experiments. The assessment of the surface integrity aspects on work material was done, in terms of identifying the predominant factor amongst the selected parameters, their order of significance and setting the levels of the factors for minimizing surface roughness and/or maximizing surface hardness. It was found that the ball diameter, rolling force, initial surface roughness and number of tool passes are the most pronounced parameters, which have great effects on the work piece-s surface during the deep cold rolling process. A simple, inexpensive and newly developed DCR tool, with interchangeable collet for using different ball diameters, was used throughout the experimental work presented in this paper.
Abstract: Enterprises need a strategic plan to retain their skillful employees and provide their career management, sustain their existence, to have growth and leadership qualities, to reach the objectives to increase the value of the enterprise and to not to be affected from changing demographic structure. In the cases when the long term career expectations of skillful employees are in integrity with the enterprise’s interests, skill management process is directly related to the career management. Abstract: A virtualized and virtual approach is presented on
academically preparing students to successfully engage at a strategic
perspective to understand those concerns and measures that are both
structured and not structured in the area of cyber security and
information assurance. The Master of Science in Cyber Security and
Information Assurance (MSCSIA) is a professional degree for those
who endeavor through technical and managerial measures to ensure
the security, confidentiality, integrity, authenticity, control,
availability and utility of the world-s computing and information
systems infrastructure. The National University Cyber Security and
Information Assurance program is offered as a Master-s degree. The
emphasis of the MSCSIA program uniquely includes hands-on
academic instruction using virtual computers. This past year, 2011,
the NU facility has become fully operational using system
architecture to provide a Virtual Education Laboratory (VEL)
accessible to both onsite and online students. The first student cohort
completed their MSCSIA training this past March 2, 2012 after
fulfilling 12 courses, for a total of 54 units of college credits. The
rapid pace scheduling of one course per month is immensely
challenging, perpetually changing, and virtually multifaceted. This
paper analyses these descriptive terms in consideration of those
globalization penetration breaches as present in today-s world of
cyber security. In addition, we present current NU practices to
mitigate risks.
Abstract: Authentication plays a vital role in many secure
systems. Most of these systems require user to log in with his or her
secret password or pass phrase before entering it. This is to ensure all
the valuables information is kept confidential guaranteeing also its
integrity and availability. However, to achieve this goal, users are
required to memorize high entropy passwords or pass phrases.
Unfortunately, this sometimes causes difficulty for user to remember
meaningless strings of data. This paper presents a new scheme which
assigns a weight to each personal question given to the user in
revealing the encrypted secrets or password. Concentration of this
scheme is to offer fault tolerance to users by allowing them to forget
the specific password to a subset of questions and still recover the
secret and achieve successful authentication. Comparison on level of
security for weight-based and weightless secret recovery scheme is
also discussed. The paper concludes with the few areas that requires
more investigation in this research.
