Abstract: Fecal sterol has been proposed as a chemical indicator
of human fecal pollution even when fecal coliform populations have
diminished due to water chlorination or toxic effects of industrial
effluents. This paper describes an improved derivatization procedure
for simultaneous determination of four fecal sterols including
coprostanol, epicholestanol, cholesterol and cholestanol using gas
chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), via optimization study
on silylation procedures using N-O-bis
(trimethylsilyl)-trifluoroacetamide (BSTFA), and
N-(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)-N-methyltrifluoroacetamide
(MTBSTFA), which lead to the formation of trimethylsilyl (TMS) and
tert-butyldimethylsilyl (TBS) derivatives, respectively. Two
derivatization processes of injection-port derivatization and water bath
derivatization (60 oC, 1h) were inspected and compared. Furthermore,
the methylation procedure at 25 oC for 2h with
trimethylsilydiazomethane (TMSD) for fecal sterols analysis was also
studied. It was found that most of TMS derivatives demonstrated the
highest sensitivities, followed by methylated derivatives. For BSTFA
or MTBSTFA derivatization processes, the simple injection-port
derivatization process could achieve the same efficiency as that in the
tedious water bath derivatization procedure.
Abstract: The school / university orientation interests a broad and
often badly informed public. Technically, it is an important
multicriterion decision problem, which supposes the combination of
much academic professional and/or lawful knowledge, which in turn
justifies software resorting to the techniques of Artificial Intelligence.

Abstract: This paper presents a time control liquids mixing
system in the tanks as an application of fuzzy time control discrete
model. The system is designed for a wide range of industrial
applications. The simulation design of control system has three
inputs: volume, viscosity, and selection of product, along with the
three external control adjustments for the system calibration or to
take over the control of the system autonomously in local or
distributed environment. There are four controlling elements: rotatory
motor, grinding motor, heating and cooling units, and valves
selection, each with time frame limit. The system consists of three
controlled variables measurement through its sensing mechanism for
feed back control. This design also facilitates the liquids mixing
system to grind certain materials in tanks and mix with fluids under
required temperature controlled environment to achieve certain
viscous level. Design of: fuzzifier, inference engine, rule base,
deffuzifiers, and discrete event control system, is discussed. Time
control fuzzy rules are formulated, applied and tested using
MATLAB simulation for the system.
Abstract: Flour from Mucuna beans (Mucuna pruriens) were
used in producing texturized meat analogue using a single screw
extruder to monitor modifications on the proximate composition and
the functional properties at high moisture level. Response surface
methodology based on Box Behnken design at three levels of barrel
temperature (110, 120, 130°C), screw speed (100,120,140rpm) and
feed moisture (44, 47, 50%) were used in 17 runs. Regression models
describing the effect of variables on the product responses were
obtained. Descriptive profile analyses and consumer acceptability
test were carried out on optimized flavoured extruded meat analogue.
Responses were mostly affected by barrel temperature and moisture
level and to a lesser extent by screw speed. Optimization results
based on desirability concept indicated that a barrel temperature of
120.15°C, feed moisture of 47% and screw speed of 119.19 rpm
would produce meat analogue of preferable proximate composition,
functional and sensory properties which reveals consumers` likeness
for the product.
Abstract: In this study, a new and fast algorithm for Ascending
Aorta (AscA) and Descending Aorta (DesA) segmentation is
presented using Computed Tomography Angiography images. This
process is quite important especially at the detection of aortic
plaques, aneurysms, calcification or stenosis. The applied method has
been carried out at four steps. At first step, lung segmentation is
achieved. At the second one, Mediastinum Region (MR) is detected
to use in the segmentation. At the third one, images have been
applied optimal threshold and components which are outside of the
MR were removed. Lastly, identifying and segmentation of AscA and
DesA have been carried out. The performance of the applied method
is found quite well for radiologists and it gives enough results to the
surgeries medically.
Abstract: The most common result of analysis of highthroughput
data in molecular biology represents a global list of
genes, ranked accordingly to a certain score. The score can be a
measure of differential expression. Recent work proposed a new
method for selecting a number of genes in a ranked gene list from
microarray gene expression data such that this set forms the
Optimally Functionally Enriched Network (OFTEN), formed by
known physical interactions between genes or their products. Here
we present calculation results of relative connectivity of genes from
META-OFTEN network and tentative biological interpretation of the
most reproducible signal. The relative connectivity and
inbetweenness values of genes from META-OFTEN network were
estimated.
Abstract: In this paper is study the possibility of successfully
implementing of hollow roller concept in order to minimize inertial
mass of the large bearings, with major results in diminution of the
material consumption, increasing of power efficiency (in wind power
station area), increasing of the durability and life duration of the large
bearings systems, noise reduction in working, resistance to
vibrations, an important diminution of losses by abrasion and
reduction of the working temperature. In this purpose was developed
an original solution through which are reduced mass, inertial forces
and moments of large bearings by using of hollow rollers. The
research was made by using the method of finite element analysis
applied on software type Solidworks - Nastran. Also, is study the
possibility of rapidly changing the manufacturing system of solid and
hollow cylindrical rollers.
Abstract: Enhancement of the performance of a reverse osmosis
(RO) unit through periodic control is studied. The periodic control
manipulates the feed pressure and flow rate of the RO unit. To ensure
the periodic behavior of the inputs, the manipulated variables (MV)
are transformed into the form of sinusoidal functions. In this case, the
amplitude and period of the sinusoidal functions become the
surrogate MV and are thus regulated via nonlinear model predictive
control algorithm. The simulation results indicated that the control
system can generate cyclic inputs necessary to enhance the closedloop
performance in the sense of increasing the permeate production
and lowering the salt concentration. The proposed control system can
attain its objective with arbitrary set point for the controlled outputs.
Successful results were also obtained in the presence of modeling
errors.
Abstract: We report on the development of a model to
understand why the range of experience with respect to HIV
infection is so diverse, especially with respect to the latency period.
To investigate this, an agent-based approach is used to extract highlevel
behaviour which cannot be described analytically from the set
of interaction rules at the cellular level. A network of independent
matrices mimics the chain of lymph nodes. Dealing with massively
multi-agent systems requires major computational effort. However,
parallelisation methods are a natural consequence and advantage of
the multi-agent approach and, using the MPI library, are here
implemented, tested and optimized. Our current focus is on the
various implementations of the data transfer across the network.
Three communications strategies are proposed and tested, showing
that the most efficient approach is communication based on the
natural lymph-network connectivity.
Abstract: New exact three-wave solutions including periodic two-solitary solutions and doubly periodic solitary solutions for the (2+1)-dimensional asymmetric Nizhnik-Novikov- Veselov (ANNV) system are obtained using Hirota's bilinear form and generalized three-wave type of ansatz approach. It is shown that the generalized three-wave method, with the help of symbolic computation, provides an e¤ective and powerful mathematical tool for solving high dimensional nonlinear evolution equations in mathematical physics.
Abstract: Face Recognition has always been a fascinating research area. It has drawn the attention of many researchers because of its various potential applications such as security systems, entertainment, criminal identification etc. Many supervised and unsupervised learning techniques have been reported so far. Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Self Organizing Maps (SOM) and Independent Component Analysis (ICA) are the three techniques among many others as proposed by different researchers for Face Recognition, known as the unsupervised techniques. This paper proposes integration of the two techniques, SOM and PCA, for dimensionality reduction and feature selection. Simulation results show that, though, the individual techniques SOM and PCA itself give excellent performance but the combination of these two can also be utilized for face recognition. Experimental results also indicate that for the given face database and the classifier used, SOM performs better as compared to other unsupervised learning techniques. A comparison of two proposed methodologies of SOM, Local and Global processing, shows the superiority of the later but at the cost of more computational time.
Abstract: We demonstrate a 1×4 coarse wavelength
division-multiplexing (CWDM) planar concave grating
multiplexer/demultiplexer and its application in re-configurable
optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) system in silicon-on-insulator
substrate. The wavelengths of the demonstrated concave grating
multiplexer align well with the ITU-T standard. We demonstrate a
prototype of ROADM comprising two such concave gratings and four
wide-band thermo-optical MZI switches. Undercut technology which
removes the underneath silicon substrate is adopted in optical switches
in order to minimize the operation power. For all the thermal heaters,
the operation voltage is smaller than 1.5 V, and the switch power is
~2.4 mW. High throughput pseudorandom binary sequence (PRBS)
data transmission with up to 100 Gb/s is demonstrated, showing the
high-performance ROADM functionality.
Abstract: DS-CDMA system is well known wireless
technology. This system suffers from MAI (Multiple Access
Interference) caused by Direct Sequence users. Multi-User Detection
schemes were introduced to detect the users- data in presence of
MAI. This paper focuses on linear multi-user detection schemes used
for data demodulation. Simulation results depict the performance of
three detectors viz-conventional detector, Decorrelating detector and
Subspace MMSE (Minimum Mean Square Error) detector. It is seen
that the performance of these detectors depends on the number of
paths and the length of Gold code used.
Abstract: The time dependent progress of a chemical reaction over a flat horizontal plate is here considered. The problem is solved through the group similarity transformation method which reduces the number of independent by one and leads to a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equation. The problem shows a singularity at the chemical reaction order n=1 and is analytically solved through the perturbation method. The behavior of the process is then numerically investigated for n≠1 and different Schmidt numbers. Graphical results for the velocity and concentration of chemicals based on the analytical and numerical solutions are presented and discussed.
Abstract: Periodic vortex shedding in pulsating flow inside wavy
channel and the effect it has on heat transfer are studied using the
finite volume method. A sinusoidally-varying component is superimposed
on a uniform flow inside a sinusoidal wavy channel and
the effects on the Nusselt number is analyzed. It was found that a
unique optimum value of the pulsation frequency, represented by the
Strouhal number, exists for Reynolds numbers ranging from 125 to
1000. Results suggest that the gain in heat transfer is related to the
process of vortex formation, movement about the troughs of the wavy
channel, and subsequent ejection/destruction through the converging
section. Heat transfer is the highest when the frequencies of the
pulsation and vortex formation approach being in-phase. Analysis of
Strouhal number effect on Nu over a period of pulsation substantiates
the proposed physical mechanism for enhancement. The effect of
changing the amplitude of pulsation is also presented over a period
of pulsation, showing a monotonic increase in heat transfer with
increasing amplitude. The 60% increase in Nusselt number suggests
that sinusoidal fluid pulsation can an effective method for enhancing
heat transfer in laminar, wavy-channel flows.
Abstract: Chakri Maha Prasart Throne Hall is the important
Audience hall in Grand Palace, Bangkok, Thailand which was

Abstract: The expansive nature of soils containing high
amounts of clay minerals can be altered through chemical
stabilization, resulting in a material suitable for construction
purposes. The primary objective of this investigation was to
study the changes induced in the molecular structure of
phosphoric acid stabilized bentonite and lateritic soil using
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Fourier Transform
Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Based on the obtained data, it
was found that a surface alteration mechanism was the main
reason responsible for the improvement of treated soils.
Furthermore, the results indicated that the Al present in the
octahedral layer of clay minerals were more amenable to
chemical attacks and also partly responsible for the formation
of new products.
Abstract: This paper proposes the numerical simulation of the
investment casting of gold jewelry. It aims to study the behavior of
fluid flow during mould filling and solidification and to optimize the
process parameters, which lead to predict and control casting defects
such as gas porosity and shrinkage porosity. A finite difference
method, computer simulation software FLOW-3D was used to
simulate the jewelry casting process. The simplified model was
designed for both numerical simulation and real casting production.
A set of sensor acquisitions were allocated on the different positions
of the wax tree of the model to detect filling times, while a set of
thermocouples were allocated to detect the temperature during
casting and cooling. Those detected data were applied to validate the
results of the numerical simulation to the results of the real casting.
The resulting comparisons signify that the numerical simulation can
be used as an effective tool in investment-casting-process
optimization and casting-defect prediction.
Abstract: The paper proposes a way of parallel processing of
SURF and Optical Flow for moving object recognition and tracking.
The object recognition and tracking is one of the most important task
in computer vision, however disadvantage are many operations cause
processing speed slower so that it can-t do real-time object recognition
and tracking. The proposed method uses a typical way of feature
extraction SURF and moving object Optical Flow for reduce
disadvantage and real-time moving object recognition and tracking,
and parallel processing techniques for speed improvement. First
analyse that an image from DB and acquired through the camera using
SURF for compared to the same object recognition then set ROI
(Region of Interest) for tracking movement of feature points using
Optical Flow. Secondly, using Multi-Thread is for improved
processing speed and recognition by parallel processing. Finally,
performance is evaluated and verified efficiency of algorithm
throughout the experiment.
Abstract: This work evaluated the effect of temperature on headspace solid-phase microextraction of volatile and furanic compounds in coated fish sticks. The major goal was the analysis of the samples as consumed, to reproduce volatile compounds people feel when consuming those products. Extraction at 37 ºC (the human body temperature) throughout the HS-SPME analysis of volatile and furanic compounds in coated fish was compared with higher extraction temperatures, which are frequently used for this kind of determinations. The profile of volatile compounds found in deepfried (F) and non-fried (NF) coated fish at 37 and 50 ºC was different from that obtained at 80 ºC. Concerning furan and its derivatives, an extra formation of these compounds was observed at higher extraction temperatures. The analysis of volatile and furanic compounds in fish coated sticks simulating the cooking and eating conditions can be reliably carried out setting the headspace absorption temperature at 37 ºC.
