Abstract: In this paper first, a numerical method based on quasiinterpolation for solving nonlinear Fredholm integral equations of the Hammerstein-type is presented. Then, we approximate the solution of Hammerstein integral equations by Nystrom’s method. Also, we compare the methods with some numerical examples.
Abstract: In this paper we proposed the new confidence interval for the normal population mean with known coefficient of variation. In practice, this situation occurs normally in environment and agriculture sciences where we know the standard deviation is proportional to the mean. As a result, the coefficient of variation of is known. We propose the new confidence interval based on the recent work of Khan [3] and this new confidence interval will compare with our previous work, see, e.g. Niwitpong [5]. We derive analytic expressions for the coverage probability and the expected length of each confidence interval. A numerical method will be used to assess the performance of these intervals based on their expected lengths.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a distance estimation scheme
for radar systems using direct sequence ultra wideband (DS-UWB)
signals. The proposed distance estimation scheme averages out the
noise by accumulating the correlator outputs of the radar, and thus,
helps the radar to employ a short-length DS-UWB signal reducing
the correlation processing time. Numerical results confirm that the
proposed distance estimation scheme provides a better estimation
performance and a reduced correlation processing time compared
with those of the conventional DS-UWB radars.
Abstract: Due to side-peaks of autocorrelation function, the binary offset carrier (BOC) signal acquisition suffers from an ambiguity when one of the side-peaks is acquired. In this paper, we first analyze that the BOC autocorrelation is made up of the sum of subcorrelations, and then, remove the side-peaks causing the ambiguity by recombining the sub-correlations. The proposed scheme is shown to remove the side-peaks completely. From numerical results, it is confirmed that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional schemes in terms of the receiver operating characteristic and mean acquisition time.
Abstract: In this paper, a robust decentralized congestion control strategy is developed for a large scale network with Differentiated Services (Diff-Serv) traffic. The network is modeled by a nonlinear fluid flow model corresponding to two classes of traffic, namely the premium traffic and the ordinary traffic. The proposed congestion controller does take into account the associated physical network resource limitations and is shown to be robust to the unknown and time-varying delays. Our proposed decentralized congestion control strategy is developed on the basis of Diff-Serv architecture by utilizing a robust adaptive technique. A Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) condition is obtained to guarantee the ultimate boundedness of the closed-loop system. Numerical simulation implementations are presented by utilizing the QualNet and Matlab software tools to illustrate the effectiveness and capabilities of our proposed decentralized congestion control strategy.
Abstract: This paper presents the finite difference scheme and the numerical simulation of suspended string. The vibration solutions when the various external forces are taken into account are obtained and compared with the solutions without external force. In addition, we also investigate how the external forces and their powers and coefficients affect the amplitude of vibration.
Abstract: This work aims to generalize the integer order Sallen-Key filters into the fractional-order domain. The analysis in the case of two different fractional-order elements introduced where the general transfer function becomes four terms which is unusual in the conventional case. In addition, the effect of the transfer function parameters on the filter poles and hence the stability is introduced and closed forms for the filter critical frequencies are driven. Finally, different examples for the fractional order Sallen-Key filter design are presented with circuit simulations using ADS where a great matching between the numerical and simulation results is obtained.
Abstract: In this paper, we present a comparative study of the
genetic algorithms and Hessian-s methods for optimal research of the
active powers in an electric network of power. The objective function
which is the performance index of production of electrical energy is
minimized by satisfying the constraints of the equality type and
inequality type initially by the Hessian-s methods and in the second
time by the genetic Algorithms. The results found by the application
of AG for the minimization of the electric production costs of power
are very encouraging. The algorithms seem to be an effective
technique to solve a great number of problems and which are in
constant evolution. Nevertheless it should be specified that the
traditional binary representation used for the genetic algorithms
creates problems of optimization of management of the large-sized
networks with high numerical precision.
Abstract: In this study, the static behavior of super elliptical Winkler plate is analyzed by applying the double side approach method. The lack of information about super elliptical Winkler plates is the motivation of this study and we use the double side approach method to solve this problem because of its superior ability on efficiently treating problems with complex boundary shape. The double side approach method has the advantages of high accuracy, easy calculation procedure and less calculation load required. Most important of all, it can give the error bound of the approximate solution. The numerical results not only show that the double side approach method works well on this problem but also provide us the knowledge of static behavior of super elliptical Winkler plate in practical use.
Abstract: A gradient learning method to regulate the trajectories
of some nonlinear chaotic systems is proposed. The method is
motivated by the gradient descent learning algorithms for neural
networks. It is based on two systems: dynamic optimization system
and system for finding sensitivities. Numerical results of several
examples are presented, which convincingly illustrate the efficiency
of the method.
Abstract: A case study of the generation scheduling optimization
of the multi-hydroplants on the Yuan River Basin in China is reported
in this paper. Concerning the uncertainty of the inflows, the
long/mid-term generation scheduling (LMTGS) problem is solved by
a stochastic model in which the inflows are considered as stochastic
variables. For the short-term generation scheduling (STGS) problem, a
constraint violation priority is defined in case not all constraints are
satisfied. Provided the stage-wise separable condition and low
dimensions, the hydroplant-based operational region schedules
(HBORS) problem is solved by dynamic programming (DP). The
coordination of LMTGS and STGS is presented as well. The
feasibility and the effectiveness of the models and solution methods
are verified by the numerical results.
Abstract: This paper presents an evolutionary method for designing
electronic circuits and numerical methods associated with
monitoring systems. The instruments described here have been used
in studies of weather and climate changes due to global warming, and
also in medical patient supervision. Genetic Programming systems
have been used both for designing circuits and sensors, and also for
determining sensor parameters. The authors advance the thesis that
the software side of such a system should be written in computer
languages with a strong mathematical and logic background in order
to prevent software obsolescence, and achieve program correctness.
Abstract: This work presents a numerical simulation of the interaction of an incident shock wave propagates from the left to the right with a cone placed in a tube at shock. The Mathematical model is based on a non stationary, viscous and axisymmetric flow. The Discretization of the Navier-stokes equations is carried out by the finite volume method in the integral form along with the Flux Vector Splitting method of Van Leer. Here, adequate combination of time stepping parameter, CFL coefficient and mesh size level is selected to ensure numerical convergence. The numerical simulation considers a shock tube filled with air. The incident shock wave propagates to the right with a determined Mach number and crosses the cone by leaving behind it a stationary detached shock wave in front of the nose cone. This type of interaction is observed according to the time of flow.
Abstract: A numerical study on the effect of side-dump angle on
fuel droplets sizing and effective mass fraction have been
investigated in present paper. The mass of fuel vapor inside the
flammability limit is named as the effective mass fraction. In the first
step we have considered a side-dump combustor with dump angle of
0o (acrossthe cylinder) and by increasing the entrance airflow velocity
from 20 to 30, 40 and 50 (m/s) respectively, the mean diameter of
fuel droplets sizing and effective mass fraction have been studied.
After this step, we have changed the dump angle from 0o to 30o,45o
and finally 60o in direction of cylinderand also we have increased the
entrance airflow velocity from 20 up to 50 (m/s) with the amount of
growth of 10(m/s) in each step, to examine its effects on fuel droplets
sizing as well as effective mass fraction. With rise of entrance airflow
velocity, these calculations are repeated in each step too. The results
show, with growth of dump-angle the effective mass fraction has
been decreased and the mean diameter of droplets sizing has been
increased. To fulfill the calculations a modified version of KIVA-3V
code which is a transient, three-dimensional, multiphase,
multicomponent code for the analysis of chemically reacting flows
with sprays, is used.
Abstract: It has proved that nonlinear diffusion and bilateral
filtering (BF) have a closed connection. Early effort and contribution
are to find a generalized representation to link them by using adaptive
filtering. In this paper a new further relationship between nonlinear
diffusion and bilateral filtering is explored which pays more attention
to numerical calculus. We give a fresh idea that bilateral filtering can
be accelerated by multigrid (MG) scheme which likes the nonlinear
diffusion, and show that a bilateral filtering process with large kernel
size can be approximated by a nonlinear diffusion process based on
full multigrid (FMG) scheme.
Abstract: In this paper, modeling of an acoustic enclosed
vehicle cabin has been carried out by using boundary element
method. Also, the second purpose of this study is analyzing of linear
wave equation in an acoustic field. The resultants of this modeling
consist of natural frequencies that have been compared with
resultants derived from finite element method. By using numerical
method (boundary element method) and after solution of wave
equation inside an acoustic enclosed cabin, this method has been
progressed to simulate noise inside a simple vehicle cabin.
Abstract: Brushless DC motor with high torque density and slim
topology for easy loading for robot system is proposed and
manufactured. Electromagnetic design is executed by equivalent
magnetic circuit model and numerical analysis. Manufactured motor is
tested and verified characteristics comparing with conventional BLDC
motor.
Abstract: We propose a phenomenological model for the
process of polymer desorption. In so doing, we omit the usual
theoretical approach of incorporating a fictitious viscoelastic
stress term into the flux equation. As a result, we obtain a
model that captures the essence of the phenomenon of trapping
skinning, while preserving the integrity of the experimentally
verified Fickian law for diffusion. An appropriate asymptotic
analysis is carried out, and a parameter is introduced to represent
the speed of the desorption front. Numerical simulations are
performed to illustrate the desorption dynamics of the model.
Recommendations are made for future modifications of the
model, and provisions are made for the inclusion of experimentally
determined frontal speeds.
Abstract: The central recirculation zone (CRZ) in a swirl
stabilized gas turbine combustor has a dominant effect on the fuel air
mixing process and flame stability. Most of state of the art swirlers
share one disadvantage; the fixed swirl number for the same swirler
configuration. Thus, in a mathematical sense, Reynolds number
becomes the sole parameter for controlling the flow characteristics
inside the combustor. As a result, at low load operation, the
generated swirl is more likely to become feeble affecting the flame
stabilization and mixing process. This paper introduces a new swirler
concept which overcomes the mentioned weakness of the modern
configurations. The new swirler introduces air tangentially and
axially to the combustor through tangential vanes and an axial vanes
respectively. Therefore, it provides different swirl numbers for the
same configuration by regulating the ratio between the axial and
tangential flow momenta. The swirler aerodynamic performance was
investigated using four CFD simulations in order to demonstrate the
impact of tangential to axial flow rate ratio on the CRZ. It was found
that the length of the CRZ is directly proportional to the tangential to
axial air flow rate ratio.
Abstract: One of the main objectives of order reduction is to
design a controller of lower order which can effectively control the
original high order system so that the overall system is of lower
order and easy to understand. In this paper, a simple method is
presented for controller design of a higher order discrete system.
First the original higher order discrete system in reduced to a lower
order model. Then a Proportional Integral Derivative (PID)
controller is designed for lower order model. An error minimization
technique is employed for both order reduction and controller
design. For the error minimization purpose, Differential Evolution
(DE) optimization algorithm has been employed. DE method is
based on the minimization of the Integral Squared Error (ISE)
between the desired response and actual response pertaining to a
unit step input. Finally the designed PID controller is connected to
the original higher order discrete system to get the desired
specification. The validity of the proposed method is illustrated
through a numerical example.
