Abstract: Electromyography (EMG) is the study of muscles function through analysis of electrical activity produced from muscles. This electrical activity which is displayed in the form of signal is the result of neuromuscular activation associated with muscle contraction. The most common techniques of EMG signal recording are by using surface and needle/wire electrode where the latter is usually used for interest in deep muscle. This paper will focus on surface electromyogram (SEMG) signal. During SEMG recording, several problems had to been countered such as noise, motion artifact and signal instability. Thus, various signal processing techniques had been implemented to produce a reliable signal for analysis. SEMG signal finds broad application particularly in biomedical field. It had been analyzed and studied for various interests such as neuromuscular disease, enhancement of muscular function and human-computer interface.
Abstract: The shortest path routing problem is a multiobjective
nonlinear optimization problem with constraints. This problem has
been addressed by considering Quality of service parameters, delay
and cost objectives separately or as a weighted sum of both
objectives. Multiobjective evolutionary algorithms can find multiple
pareto-optimal solutions in one single run and this ability makes them
attractive for solving problems with multiple and conflicting
objectives. This paper uses an elitist multiobjective evolutionary
algorithm based on the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm
(NSGA), for solving the dynamic shortest path routing problem in
computer networks. A priority-based encoding scheme is proposed
for population initialization. Elitism ensures that the best solution
does not deteriorate in the next generations. Results for a sample test
network have been presented to demonstrate the capabilities of the
proposed approach to generate well-distributed pareto-optimal
solutions of dynamic routing problem in one single run. The results
obtained by NSGA are compared with single objective weighting
factor method for which Genetic Algorithm (GA) was applied.
Abstract: The mechanical behavior of porous media is governed by the interaction between its solid skeleton and the fluid existing inside its pores. The interaction occurs through the interface of gains and fluid. The traditional analysis methods of porous media, based on the effective stress and Darcy's law, are unable to account for these interactions. For an accurate analysis, the porous media is represented in a fluid-filled porous solid on the basis of the Biot theory of wave propagation in poroelastic media. In Biot formulation, the equations of motion of the soil mixture are coupled with the global mass balance equations to describe the realistic behavior of porous media. Because of irregular geometry, the domain is generally treated as an assemblage of fmite elements. In this investigation, the numerical formulation for the field equations governing the dynamic response of fluid-saturated porous media is analyzed and employed for the study of transient wave motion. A finite element model is developed and implemented into a computer code called DYNAPM for dynamic analysis of porous media. The weighted residual method with 8-node elements is used for developing of a finite element model and the analysis is carried out in the time domain considering the dynamic excitation and gravity loading. Newmark time integration scheme is developed to solve the time-discretized equations which are an unconditionally stable implicit method Finally, some numerical examples are presented to show the accuracy and capability of developed model for a wide variety of behaviors of porous media.
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to present a reliable mean for human-computer interfacing based on finger gestures made in two dimensions, which could be interpreted and adequately used in controlling a remote robot's movement. The gestures were captured and interpreted using an algorithm based on trigonometric functions, in calculating the angular displacement from one point of touch to another as the user-s finger moved within a time interval; thereby allowing for pattern spotting of the captured gesture. In this paper the design and implementation of such a gesture based user interface was presented, utilizing the aforementioned algorithm. These techniques were then used to control a remote mobile robot's movement. A resistive touch screen was selected as the gesture sensor, then utilizing a programmed microcontroller to interpret them respectively.
Abstract: The demand for higher performance graphics
continues to grow because of the incessant desire towards realism.
And, rapid advances in fabrication technology have enabled us to
build several processor cores on a single die. Hence, it is important to
develop single chip parallel architectures for such data-intensive
applications. In this paper, we propose an efficient PIM architectures
tailored for computer graphics which requires a large number of
memory accesses. We then address the two important tasks necessary
for maximally exploiting the parallelism provided by the architecture,
namely, partitioning and placement of graphic data, which affect
respectively load balances and communication costs. Under the
constraints of uniform partitioning, we develop approaches for optimal
partitioning and placement, which significantly reduce search space.
We also present heuristics for identifying near-optimal placement,
since the search space for placement is impractically large despite our
optimization. We then demonstrate the effectiveness of our partitioning
and placement approaches via analysis of example scenes; simulation
results show considerable search space reductions, and our heuristics
for placement performs close to optimal – the average ratio of
communication overheads between our heuristics and the optimal was
1.05. Our uniform partitioning showed average load-balance ratio of
1.47 for geometry processing and 1.44 for rasterization, which is
reasonable.
Abstract: During recent years, attention in 'Green Computing'
has moved research into energy-saving techniques for home
computers to enterprise systems' Client and Server machines. Saving
energy or reduction of carbon footprints is one of the aspects of
Green Computing. The research in the direction of Green Computing
is more than just saving energy and reducing carbon foot prints. This
study provides a brief account of Green Computing. The emphasis of

Abstract: Optimizing equipment selection in heavy earthwork
operations is a critical key in the success of any construction project.
The objective of this research incentive was geared towards
developing a computer model to assist contractors and construction
managers in estimating the cost of heavy earthwork operations.
Economical operation analysis was conducted for an equipment fleet
taking into consideration the owning and operating costs involved in
earthwork operations. The model is being developed in a Microsoft
environment and is capable of being integrated with other estimating
and optimization models. In this study, Caterpillar® Performance
Handbook [5] was the main resource used to obtain specifications of
selected equipment. The implementation of the model shall give
optimum selection of equipment fleet not only based on cost
effectiveness but also in terms of versatility. To validate the model, a
case study of an actual dam construction project was selected to
quantify its degree of accuracy.
Abstract: This paper presents a novel approach for optimal
reconfiguration of radial distribution systems. Optimal
reconfiguration involves the selection of the best set of branches to
be opened, one each from each loop, such that the resulting radial
distribution system gets the desired performance. In this paper an
algorithm is proposed based on simple heuristic rules and identified
an effective switch status configuration of distribution system for the
minimum loss reduction. This proposed algorithm consists of two
parts; one is to determine the best switching combinations in all loops
with minimum computational effort and the other is simple optimum
power loss calculation of the best switching combination found in
part one by load flows. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed
algorithm, computer simulations are carried out on 33-bus system.
The results show that the performance of the proposed method is
better than that of the other methods.
Abstract: In theoretical computer science, the Turing machine has played a number of important roles in understanding and exploiting basic concepts and mechanisms in computing and information processing [20]. It is a simple mathematical model of computers [9]. After that, M.Blum and C.Hewitt first proposed two-dimensional automata as a computational model of two-dimensional pattern processing, and investigated their pattern recognition abilities in 1967 [7]. Since then, a lot of researchers in this field have been investigating many properties about automata on a two- or three-dimensional tape. On the other hand, the question of whether processing fourdimensional digital patterns is much more difficult than two- or threedimensional ones is of great interest from the theoretical and practical standpoints. Thus, the study of four-dimensional automata as a computasional model of four-dimensional pattern processing has been meaningful [8]-[19],[21]. This paper introduces a cooperating system of four-dimensional finite automata as one model of four-dimensional automata. A cooperating system of four-dimensional finite automata consists of a finite number of four-dimensional finite automata and a four-dimensional input tape where these finite automata work independently (in parallel). Those finite automata whose input heads scan the same cell of the input tape can communicate with each other, that is, every finite automaton is allowed to know the internal states of other finite automata on the same cell it is scanning at the moment. In this paper, we mainly investigate some accepting powers of a cooperating system of eight- or seven-way four-dimensional finite automata. The seven-way four-dimensional finite automaton is an eight-way four-dimensional finite automaton whose input head can move east, west, south, north, up, down, or in the fu-ture, but not in the past on a four-dimensional input tape.
Abstract: Explosion occurs due to sudden release of energy.
Common examples of explosion include chemical, atomic, heat, and
pressure tank (due to ignition) explosions. Petroleum, gas, and
petrochemical industries operations are threatened by natural risks
and processes. Fires and explosions are the greatest process risks
which cause financial damages.
This study aims at designing a single-floor structure for the control
room of a petroleum refinery to be resistant against gas explosion
loads, and the information related to the structure specifications have
been provided regarding the fact that the structure is made on the
ground's surface. In this research, the lateral stiffness of single pile is
calculated by SPPLN.FOR computer program, and its value for
13624 KN/m single pile has been assessed. The analysis used due to
the loading conditions, is dynamic nonlinear analysis with direct
integration method.
Abstract: Imprecision is a long-standing problem in CAD design
and high accuracy image-based reconstruction applications. The visual
hull which is the closed silhouette equivalent shape of the objects
of interest is an important concept in image-based reconstruction.
We extend the domain-theoretic framework, which is a robust and
imprecision capturing geometric model, to analyze the imprecision in
the output shape when the input vertices are given with imprecision.
Under this framework, we show an efficient algorithm to generate the
2D partial visual hull which represents the exact information of the
visual hull with only basic imprecision assumptions. We also show
how the visual hull from polyhedra problem can be efficiently solved
in the context of imprecise input.
Abstract: Total liquid ventilation can support gas exchange in animal models of lung injury. Clinical application awaits further technical improvements and performance verification. Our aim was to develop a liquid ventilator, able to deliver accurate tidal volumes, and a computerized system for measuring lung mechanics. The computer-assisted, piston-driven respirator controlled ventilatory parameters that were displayed and modified on a real-time basis. Abstract: In this article, a formal specification and verification of the Rabin public-key scheme in a formal proof system is presented. The idea is to use the two views of cryptographic verification: the computational approach relying on the vocabulary of probability theory and complexity theory and the formal approach based on ideas and techniques from logic and programming languages. A major objective of this article is the presentation of the first computer-proved implementation of the Rabin public-key scheme in Isabelle/HOL. Moreover, we explicate a (computer-proven) formalization of correctness as well as a computer verification of security properties using a straight-forward computation model in Isabelle/HOL. The analysis uses a given database to prove formal properties of our implemented functions with computer support. The main task in designing a practical formalization of correctness as well as efficient computer proofs of security properties is to cope with the complexity of cryptographic proving. We reduce this complexity by exploring a light-weight formalization that enables both appropriate formal definitions as well as efficient formal proofs. Consequently, we get reliable proofs with a minimal error rate augmenting the used database, what provides a formal basis for more computer proof constructions in this area.
Abstract: This paper is taken into consideration the problem of cryptanalysis of stream ciphers. There is some attempts need to improve the existing attacks on stream cipher and to make an attempt to distinguish the portions of cipher text obtained by the encryption of plain text in which some parts of the text are random and the rest are non-random. This paper presents a tutorial introduction to symmetric cryptography. The basic information theoretic and computational properties of classic and modern cryptographic systems are presented, followed by an examination of the application of cryptography to the security of VoIP system in computer networks using LFSR algorithm. The implementation program will be developed Java 2. LFSR algorithm is appropriate for the encryption and decryption of online streaming data, e.g. VoIP (voice chatting over IP). This paper is implemented the encryption module of speech signals to cipher text and decryption module of cipher text to speech signals.
Abstract: The following paper shows an interactive tool which
main purpose is to teach how to play a flute. It consists of three
stages the first one is the instruction and teaching process through a
software application, the second is the practice part when the user
starts to play the flute (hardware specially designed for this
application) this flute is capable of capturing how is being played the
flute and the final stage is the one in which the data captured are sent
to the software and the user is evaluated in order to give him / she a
correction or an acceptance
Abstract: This paper proposes a solution to the motion planning
and control problem of car-like mobile robots which is required to
move safely to a designated target in a priori known workspace
cluttered with swarm of boids exhibiting collective emergent
behaviors. A generalized algorithm for target convergence and
swarm avoidance is proposed that will work for any number of
swarms. The control laws proposed in this paper also ensures
practical stability of the system. The effectiveness of the proposed
control laws are demonstrated via computer simulations of an
emergent behavior.
Abstract: The objective of the paper is twofold. First, to develop a
formal framework for planning for mobile agents. A logical language
based on a temporal logic is proposed that can express a type of
tasks which often arise in network management. Second, to design a
planning algorithm for such tasks. The aim of this paper is to study
the importance of finding plans for mobile agents. Although there
has been a lot of research in mobile agents, not much work has been
done to incorporate planning ideas for such agents. This paper makes
an attempt in this direction. A theoretical study of finding plans for
mobile agents is undertaken. A planning algorithm (based on the
paradigm of mobile computing) is proposed and its space, time, and
communication complexity is analyzed. The algorithm is illustrated
by working out an example in detail.
Abstract: An implementation of a design for a game based
virtual learning environment is described. The game is developed for a course in analogue electronics, and the topic is the design of a
power supply. This task can be solved in a number of different ways, with certain constraints, giving the students a certain amount of
freedom, although the game is designed not to facilitate trial-and error approach. The use of storytelling and a virtual gaming environment provides the student with the learning material in a
MMORPG environment. The game is tested on a group of second
year electrical engineering students with good results.
Abstract: A method is presented for the construction of arbitrary
even-input sorting networks exhibiting better properties than the
networks created using a conventional technique of the same type.
The method was discovered by means of a genetic algorithm combined
with an application-specific development. Similarly to human
inventions in the area of theoretical computer science, the evolved
invention was analyzed: its generality was proven and area and time
complexities were determined.
Abstract: This study deals with the phenomena of reflection and transmission (refraction) of qSV-waves, for an incident of quasi transverse vertically waves, at a plane interface of two semi-infinite piezoelectric elastic media under the influence of the initial stresses. The relations governing the reflection and transmission coefficients of these reflected waves for various suitable boundary conditions are derived. We have shown analytically that reflection and transmission coefficients of (qP) and (qSV) waves depend upon the angle of incidence, the parameters of electric potential, the material constants of the medium as will as the initial stresses presented in the media. The numerical calculations of the reflection and transmission amplitude ratios for different values of initial stresses have been carried out by computer for different materials as examples and the results are given in the form of graphs. Finally, some of particular cases are considered.
