Abstract: Increased physical fitness participation has been
paralleled by increasedoveruse injuries such as insertional Achilles
tendinosis (AT). Treatment has provided inconsistentresults. The use
of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ECSWT) offers a new
treatment consideration. The purpose of this study was to assess the
effects of ECSWTon pain, function, range of motion (ROM), joint
mobility and strength in patients with AT. Thirty subjects were
treated with ECSWT and measures were takenbefore and three
months after treatment. There was significant differences in visual
analog scale (VAS) scores for pain at rest (p=0.002); after activity
(p= 0.0001); overall improvement(p=0.0001); Lower Extremity
Functional Scale (LEFS) scores (p=0.002); dorsiflexion range of
motion (ROM) (p=0.0001); plantarflexion strength (p=0.025);
talocrural joint anterior glide (p=0.046); and subtalar joint medial and
lateral glide (p=0.025).ECSWT offers a new intervention that may
limit the progression of the disorder and the long term healthcare
costs associated with AT.
Abstract: The composite materials were prepared by sawdust, cassava starch and natural rubber latex (NR). The mixtures of 15%w/v gelatinized cassava starch and 15%w/v PVOH were used as the binder of these composite materials. The concentrated rubber latex was added to the mixtures. They were mixed rigorously to the treated sawdust in the ratio of 70:30 until achive uniform dispersion. The batters were subjected to the hot compression moulding at the temperature of 160°C and 3,000 psi pressure for 5 min. The experimental results showed that the mechanical properties of composite materials, which contained the gelatinized cassava starch and PVOH in the ratio of 2:1, 20% NR latex by weight of the dry starch and treated sawdust with 5%NaOH or 1% BPO, were the best. It contributed the maximal compression strength (341.10 + 26.11 N), puncture resistance (8.79 + 0.98 N/mm2) and flexural strength (3.99 + 0.72N/mm2). It is also found that the physicochemical and mechanical properties of composites strongly depends on the interface quality of sawdust, cassava starch and NR latex.
Abstract: Shadows add great amount of realism to a scene and
many algorithms exists to generate shadows. Recently, Shadow
volumes (SVs) have made great achievements to place a valuable
position in the gaming industries. Looking at this, we concentrate on
simple but valuable initial partial steps for further optimization in SV
generation, i.e.; model simplification and silhouette edge detection
and tracking. Shadow volumes (SVs) usually takes time in generating
boundary silhouettes of the object and if the object is complex then
the generation of edges become much harder and slower in process.
The challenge gets stiffer when real time shadow generation and
rendering is demanded. We investigated a way to use the real time
silhouette edge detection method, which takes the advantage of
spatial and temporal coherence, and exploit the level-of-details
(LOD) technique for reducing silhouette edges of the model to use
the simplified version of the model for shadow generation speeding
up the running time. These steps highly reduce the execution time of
shadow volume generations in real-time and are easily flexible to any
of the recently proposed SV techniques. Our main focus is to exploit
the LOD and silhouette edge detection technique, adopting them to
further enhance the shadow volume generations for real time
rendering.
Abstract: Flexible macroblock ordering (FMO), adopted in the
H.264 standard, allows to partition all macroblocks (MBs) in a frame
into separate groups of MBs called Slice Groups (SGs). FMO can not
only support error-resilience, but also control the size of video packets
for different network types. However, it is well-known that the number
of bits required for encoding the frame is increased by adopting FMO.
In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm that can reduce the bitrate
overhead caused by utilizing FMO. In the proposed algorithm, all MBs
are grouped in SGs based on the similarity of the transform
coefficients. Experimental results show that our algorithm can reduce
the bitrate as compared with conventional FMO.
Abstract: The main goal of the study is to analyze all relevant properties of the electro hydraulic systems and based on that to make a proper choice of the neural network control strategy that may be used for the control of the mechatronic system. A combination of electronic and hydraulic systems is widely used since it combines the advantages of both. Hydraulic systems are widely spread because of their properties as accuracy, flexibility, high horsepower-to-weight ratio, fast starting, stopping and reversal with smoothness and precision, and simplicity of operations. On the other hand, the modern control of hydraulic systems is based on control of the circuit fed to the inductive solenoid that controls the position of the hydraulic valve. Since this circuit may be easily handled by PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal with a proper frequency, the combination of electrical and hydraulic systems became very fruitful and usable in specific areas as airplane and military industry. The study shows and discusses the experimental results obtained by the control strategy of neural network control using MATLAB and SIMULINK [1]. Finally, the special attention was paid to the possibility of neuro-controller design and its application to control of electro-hydraulic systems and to make comparative with other kinds of control.
Abstract: Many natural language expressions are ambiguous, and
need to draw on other sources of information to be interpreted.
Interpretation of the e word تعاون to be considered as a noun or a verb
depends on the presence of contextual cues. To interpret words we
need to be able to discriminate between different usages. This paper
proposes a hybrid of based- rules and a machine learning method for
tagging Arabic words. The particularity of Arabic word that may be
composed of stem, plus affixes and clitics, a small number of rules
dominate the performance (affixes include inflexional markers for
tense, gender and number/ clitics include some prepositions,
conjunctions and others). Tagging is closely related to the notion of
word class used in syntax. This method is based firstly on rules (that
considered the post-position, ending of a word, and patterns), and
then the anomaly are corrected by adopting a memory-based learning
method (MBL). The memory_based learning is an efficient method to
integrate various sources of information, and handling exceptional
data in natural language processing tasks. Secondly checking the
exceptional cases of rules and more information is made available to
the learner for treating those exceptional cases. To evaluate the
proposed method a number of experiments has been run, and in
order, to improve the importance of the various information in
learning.
Abstract: Quantitative trait loci (QTL) experiments have yielded
important biological and biochemical information necessary for
understanding the relationship between genetic markers and
quantitative traits. For many years, most QTL algorithms only
allowed one observation per genotype. Recently, there has been an
increasing demand for QTL algorithms that can accommodate more
than one observation per genotypic distribution. The Bayesian
hierarchical model is very flexible and can easily incorporate this
information into the model. Herein a methodology is presented that
uses a Bayesian hierarchical model to capture the complexity of the
data. Furthermore, the Markov chain Monte Carlo model composition
(MC3) algorithm is used to search and identify important markers. An
extensive simulation study illustrates that the method captures the
true QTL, even under nonnormal noise and up to 6 QTL.
Abstract: As the web continues to grow exponentially, the idea
of crawling the entire web on a regular basis becomes less and less
feasible, so the need to include information on specific domain,
domain-specific search engines was proposed. As more information
becomes available on the World Wide Web, it becomes more difficult
to provide effective search tools for information access. Today,
people access web information through two main kinds of search
interfaces: Browsers (clicking and following hyperlinks) and Query
Engines (queries in the form of a set of keywords showing the topic
of interest) [2]. Better support is needed for expressing one's
information need and returning high quality search results by web
search tools. There appears to be a need for systems that do reasoning
under uncertainty and are flexible enough to recover from the
contradictions, inconsistencies, and irregularities that such reasoning
involves. In a multi-view problem, the features of the domain can be
partitioned into disjoint subsets (views) that are sufficient to learn the
target concept. Semi-supervised, multi-view algorithms, which
reduce the amount of labeled data required for learning, rely on the
assumptions that the views are compatible and uncorrelated. This
paper describes the use of semi-structured machine learning approach
with Active learning for the “Domain Specific Search Engines". A
domain-specific search engine is “An information access system that
allows access to all the information on the web that is relevant to a
particular domain. The proposed work shows that with the help of
this approach relevant data can be extracted with the minimum
queries fired by the user. It requires small number of labeled data and
pool of unlabelled data on which the learning algorithm is applied to
extract the required data.
Abstract: The objective of this research is to explore the role of actors at the local level in managing the Pre-hospital Emergency Medical Service (EMS) system in Thailand. The research method was done through documentary research, individual interviews, and one forum conducted in each province. This paper uses the case of three provinces located in three regions in Thailand including; Ubon Ratchathani (North-eastern region), Lampang (Northern Region), and Songkhla (Southern Region). The result shows that, recently, the role of the local government in being the service provider for their local people is increasingly concerned. In identifying the key success factors towards the EMS system, it includes; (i) the local executives- vision and influence that the decisions made by them, for both PAO (Provincial Administration Organisation (PAO) and TAO (Tambon Administration Organisation), is vital to address the overall challenges in EMS development, (ii) the administrative system through reforming their working style create the flexibility in running the EMS task, (iii) the network-based management among different agencies at the local level leads to the better EMS practices, and (iv) the development in human resource is very vital in delivering the effective services.
Abstract: Solid waste can be considered as an urban burden or
as a valuable resource depending on how it is managed. To meet the
rising demand for energy and to address environmental concerns, a
conversion from conventional energy systems to renewable resources
is essential. For the sustainability of human civilization, an
environmentally sound and techno-economically feasible waste
treatment method is very important to treat recyclable waste. Several
technologies are available for realizing the potential of solid waste as
an energy source, ranging from very simple systems for disposing of
dry waste to more complex technologies capable of dealing with
large amounts of industrial waste. There are three main pathways for
conversion of waste material to energy: thermo chemical,
biochemical and physicochemical. This paper investigates the thermo
chemical conversion of solid waste for energy recovery. The
processes, advantages and dis-advantages of various thermo chemical
conversion processes are discussed and compared. Special attention
is given to Gasification process as it provides better solutions
regarding public acceptance, feedstock flexibility, near-zero
emissions, efficiency and security. Finally this paper presents
comparative statements of thermo chemical processes and introduces
an integrated waste management system.
Abstract: The Sphere Method is a flexible interior point algorithm for linear programming problems. This was developed mainly by Professor Katta G. Murty. It consists of two steps, the centering step and the descent step. The centering step is the most expensive part of the algorithm. In this centering step we proposed some improvements such as introducing two or more initial feasible solutions as we solve for the more favorable new solution by objective value while working with the rigorous updates of the feasible region along with some ideas integrated in the descent step. An illustration is given confirming the advantage of using the proposed procedure.
Abstract: Concrete pavement has superior durability and longer
structural life than asphalt pavement. Concrete pavement requires
less maintenance compared to asphalt pavement which requires maintenance and major rehabilitation. Use of the concrete pavement
has been grown over the past decade in developing countries. Fibre reinforced concrete (FRC) has been successfully used in design of concrete pavement in past decade. In this research, the effect of fibre
volume fraction in modulus of rupture, load-deflection, equivalent flexural strength (fe,3) and the equivalent flexural strength ratio (Re,3)
has been used in different fibre volume fraction. Crimped-type flat
steel fibre of size 50 x 2.0 x 0.6 mm was used with 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0% volume fraction. Beam specimens of size 500 x 100 x 100 mm were used for flexural as well as with JCI method for analysis flexural toughness, equivalent flexural strength. It was obtained as the 2% fibre volume fractions; reduce 45% of the concrete pavement
thickness.

Abstract: A manufacturing feature can be defined simply as a
geometric shape and its manufacturing information to create the shape.
In a feature-based process planning system, feature library that
consists of pre-defined manufacturing features and the manufacturing
information to create the shape of the features, plays an important role
in the extraction of manufacturing features with their proper
manufacturing information. However, to manage the manufacturing
information flexibly, it is important to build a feature library that can
be easily modified. In this paper, the implementation of Semantic Wiki
for the development of the feature library is proposed.
Abstract: A thin layer on the component surface can be found
with high tensile residual stresses, due to turning operations, which
can dangerously affect the fatigue performance of the component. In
this paper an analytical approach is presented to reconstruct the
residual stress field from a limited incomplete set of measurements.
Airy stress function is used as the primary unknown to directly solve
the equilibrium equations and satisfying the boundary conditions. In
this new method there exists the flexibility to impose the physical
conditions that govern the behavior of residual stress to achieve a
meaningful complete stress field. The analysis is also coupled to a
least squares approximation and a regularization method to provide
stability of the inverse problem. The power of this new method is
then demonstrated by analyzing some experimental measurements
and achieving a good agreement between the model prediction and
the results obtained from residual stress measurement.
Abstract: This paper presents a genetic algorithm based
approach for solving security constrained optimal power flow
problem (SCOPF) including FACTS devices. The optimal location of
FACTS devices are identified using an index called overload index
and the optimal values are obtained using an enhanced genetic
algorithm. The optimal allocation by the proposed method optimizes
the investment, taking into account its effects on security in terms of
the alleviation of line overloads. The proposed approach has been
tested on IEEE-30 bus system to show the effectiveness of the
proposed algorithm for solving the SCOPF problem.
Abstract: Recent medical studies have investigated the importance of enteral feeding and the use of feeding pumps for recovering patients unable to feed themselves or gain nourishment and nutrients by natural means. The most of enteral feeding system uses a peristaltic tube pump. A peristaltic pump is a form of positive displacement pump in which a flexible tube is progressively squeezed externally to allow the resulting enclosed pillow of fluid to progress along it. The squeezing of the tube requires a precise and robust controller of the geared motor to overcome parametric uncertainty of the pumping system which generates due to a wide variation of friction and slip between tube and roller. So, this paper proposes fuzzy adaptive controller for the robust control of the peristaltic tube pump. This new adaptive controller uses a fuzzy multi-layered architecture which has several independent fuzzy controllers in parallel, each with different robust stability area. Out of several independent fuzzy controllers, the most suited one is selected by a system identifier which observes variations in the controlled system parameter. This paper proposes a design procedure which can be carried out mathematically and systematically from the model of a controlled system. Finally, the good control performance, accurate dose rate and robust system stability, of the developed feeding pump is confirmed through experimental and clinic testing.
Abstract: A product goes through various processes in a production flow which is also known as assembly line in manufacturing process management. Toyota created a new concept which is known as lean concept in manufacturing industry. Today it is the leading model in manufacturing plants through the globe. The linear walking worker assembly line is a flexible assembly system where each worker travels down the line carrying out each assembly task at each station; and each worker accomplishes the assembly of a unit from start to finish. This paper attempts to combine the flexibility of the walking worker and lean in order to quantify the benefits from applying the shop floor principles of lean management.
Abstract: In production planning (PP) periods with excess capacity
and growing demand, the manufacturers have two options to use the excess capacity. First, it could do more changeovers and thus reduce lot sizes, inventories, and inventory costs. Second, it could produce in excess of demand in the period and build additional inventory that can be used to satisfy future demand increments, thus
delaying the purchase of the next machine that is required to meet the growth in demand. In this study we propose an enhanced supply
chain planning model with flexible planning capability. In addition, a 3D supply chain planning system is illustrated.
Abstract: This research presents a fuzzy multi-objective model
for a machine selection problem in a flexible manufacturing system
of a tire company. Two main objectives are minimization of an
average machine error and minimization of the total setup time.
Conventionally, the working team uses trial and error in selecting a
pressing machine for each task due to the complexity and constraints
of the problem. So, both objectives may not satisfy. Moreover, trial
and error takes a lot of time to get the final decision. Therefore, in
this research preemptive fuzzy goal programming model is developed
for solving this multi-objective problem. The proposed model can
obtain the appropriate results that the Decision Making (DM) is
satisfied for both objectives. Besides, alternative choice can be easily
generated by varying the satisfaction level. Additionally, decision
time can be reduced by using the model, which includes all
constraints of the system to generate the solutions. A numerical
example is also illustrated to show the effectiveness of the proposed
model.
