Abstract: Sodium borosilicate glasses doped with different
content of NdF3 mol % have been prepared by rapid quenching
method. Ultrasonic velocities (both longitudinal and shear)
measurements have been carried out at room temperature and at
ultrasonic frequency of 4 MHz. Elastic moduli, Debye temperature,
softening temperature and Poisson's ratio have been obtained as a
function of NdF3 modifier content. Results showed that the elastic
moduli, Debye temperature, softening temperature and Poisson's ratio
have very slight change with the change of NdF3 mol % content.
Based on FTIR spectroscopy and theoretical (Bond compression)
model, quantitative analysis has been carried out in order to obtain
more information about the structure of these glasses. The study
indicated that the structure of these glasses is mainly composed of
SiO4 units with four bridging oxygens (Q4), and with three bridging
and one nonbridging oxygens (Q3).
Abstract: Makishima and Mackenzie model was used to
simulation of acoustic properties (longitudinal and shear ultrasonic
wave velocities, elastic moduli theoretically for many tellurite and
borate glasses. The model was proposed mainly depending on the
values of the experimentally measured density, which are obtained
before. In this search work, we are trying to obtain the values of
densities of amorphous glasses (as the density depends on the
geometry of the network structure of these glasses). In addition, the
problem of simulating the slope of linear regression between the
experimentally determined bulk modulus and the product of packing
density and experimental Young's modulus, were solved in this
search work. The results showed good agreement between the
experimentally measured values of densities and both ultrasonic wave
velocities, and those theoretically determined.
Abstract: Fixed bed adsorption has become a frequently used
industrial application in wastewater treatment processes. Various low
cost adsorbents have been studied for their applicability in treatment
of different types of effluents. In this work, the intention of the study
was to explore the efficacy and feasibility for azo dye, Acid Orange 7
(AO7) adsorption onto fixed bed column of NaOH Treated eggshell
(TES). The effect of various parameters like flow rate, initial dye
concentration, and bed height were exploited in this study. The
studies confirmed that the breakthrough curves were dependent on
flow rate, initial dye concentration solution of AO7 and bed depth.
The Thomas, Yoon–Nelson, and Adams and Bohart models were
analysed to evaluate the column adsorption performance. The
adsorption capacity, rate constant and correlation coefficient
associated to each model for column adsorption was calculated and
mentioned. The column experimental data were fitted well with
Thomas model with coefficients of correlation R2 ≥0.93 at different
conditions but the Yoon–Nelson, BDST and Bohart–Adams model
(R2=0.911), predicted poor performance of fixed-bed column. The
(TES) was shown to be suitable adsorbent for adsorption of AO7
using fixed-bed adsorption column.
Abstract: Nowadays, ontologies are used for achieving a
common understanding within a user community and for sharing
domain knowledge. However, the de-centralized nature of the web
makes indeed inevitable that small communities will use their own
ontologies to describe their data and to index their own resources.
Certainly, accessing to resources from various ontologies created
independently is an important challenge for answering end user
queries. Ontology mapping is thus required for combining ontologies.
However, mapping complete ontologies at run time is a
computationally expensive task. This paper proposes a system in
which mappings between concepts may be generated dynamically as
the concepts are encountered during user queries. In this way, the
interaction itself defines the context in which small and relevant
portions of ontologies are mapped. We illustrate application of the
proposed system in the context of Technology Enhanced Learning
(TEL) where learners need to access to learning resources covering
specific concepts.
Abstract: Augmented and Virtual Realties is quickly becoming
a hotbed of activity with millions of dollars being spent on R & D
and companies such as Google and Microsoft rushing to stake their
claim. Augmented reality (AR) is however marching ahead due to the
spread of the ideal AR device – the smartphone. Despite its potential,
there remains a deep digital divide between the Developed and
Developing Countries. The Technological Acceptance Model (TAM)
and Hofstede cultural dimensions also predict the behaviour intention
to uptake AR in India will be large. This paper takes a quantified
approach by collecting 340 survey responses to AR scenarios and
analyzing them through statistics. The Survey responses show that
the Intention to Use, Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Enjoyment
dimensions are high among the urban population in India. This along
with the exponential smartphone indicates that India is on the cusp of
a boom in the AR sector.
Abstract: Goat production is one of the activities included in
integrated farming in the Philippines. Goats are raised for its meat
and regardless of breed the animal is slaughtered for this purpose. In
order to document the carcass yield of different goats slaughtered,
five (5) different breeds of goats to include Purebred Boer and
Anglo-nubian, Crossbred Boer and Anglo-nubian and Philippine
Native goat were used in the study. Data on slaughter parameters,
carcass characteristics, and sensory evaluation were gathered and
analyzed using Complete Random Design (CRD) at 5% level of
significance and the results of carcass conformation were assessed
descriptively. Results showed that slaughter data such as
slaughter/live weight, hot and chilled carcass weights, dressing
percentage and percentage drip loss were significantly different
(P>0.05) among breeds. On carcass and meat characteristics, pure
breed and upgraded Boer were found to be moderately muscular
while Native goat was rated as thin muscular. The color of the
carcass also revealed that Purebred and crossbred Boer were
described dark red, while Native goat was noted to be slightly pale.
On sensory evaluation, the results indicated that there was no
significant difference (P>0.05) among breeds evaluated. It is
therefore concluded that purebred goat has heavier carcass, while
both purebred Boer and upgrade are rated slightly muscular. It is
further confirms that regardless of breed, goat will have the same
sensory characteristics. Thus, it is recommended to slaughter heavier
goats to obtain more carcasses with better conformation and quality.
Abstract: This study examined the digital preservation in
Nigeria university libraries. A comparison between the university of
Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) and Ahmadu Bello University Zaria (ABU,
Zaria). The study utilized primary source of data obtained from two
selected institution librarians. Finding revealed varying results in
terms of skills acquired by librarians before and after digitization of
the two institutions. The study reports that journals publication, text
book, CD-ROMS, conference papers and proceedings, theses,
dissertations and seminar papers are among the information resources
available for digitization. The study further documents that copyright
issue, power failure, and unavailability of needed materials are
among the challenges facing the digitization of library of the
institution. On the basis of the finding, the study concluded that
digitization of library enhances efficiency in organization and
retrieval of information services. The study therefore recommended
that software should be upgraded with backup, training of the
librarians on digital process, installation of antivirus and
enhancement of technical collaboration between the library and MIS.
Abstract: The new design of heat exchangers utilizing an
annular distributor opens a new gateway for realizing higher energy
optimization. To realize this goal, graphene nanoplatelet-based water
nanofluids with promising thermophysical properties were
synthesized in the presence of covalent and noncovalent
functionalization. Thermal conductivity, density, viscosity and
specific heat capacity were investigated and employed as a raw data
for ANSYS-Fluent to be used in two-phase approach. After
validation of obtained results by analytical equations, two special
parameters of convective heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop
were investigated. The study followed by studying other heat transfer
parameters of annular pass in the presence of graphene nanopletelesbased
water nanofluids at different weight concentrations, input
powers and temperatures. As a result, heat transfer performance and
friction loss are predicted for both synthesized nanofluids.
Abstract: Approximately 10,000 different types of dyes and
pigments are being used in various industrial applications yearly,
which include the textile and printing industries. However, these dyes
are difficult to degrade naturally once they enter the aquatic system.
Their high persistency in natural environment poses a potential health
hazard to all form of life. Hence, there is a need for alternative dye
removal strategy in the environment via bioremediation. In this study,
fungi laccase is investigated via commercial agar dyes plates and
submerged fermentation to explore the application of fungi laccase in
textile dye wastewater treatment. Two locally isolated basidiomycetes
were screened for laccase activity using media added with commercial
dyes such as 2, 2-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid
(ABTS), guaiacol and Remazol Brillant Blue R (RBBR). Isolate TBB3
(1.70±0.06) and EL2 (1.78±0.08) gave the highest results for ABTS
plates with the appearance of greenish halo on around the isolates.
Submerged fermentation performed on Isolate TBB3 with the
productivity 3.9067 U/ml/day, whereas the laccase activity for Isolate
EL2 was much lower (0.2097 U/ml/day). As isolate TBB3 showed
higher laccase production, it was subjected to molecular
characterization by DNA isolation, PCR amplification and sequencing
of ITS region of nuclear ribosomal DNA. After being compared with
other sequences in National Center for Biotechnology Information
(NCBI database), isolate TBB3 is probably from species Trametes
hirsutei. Further research work can be performed on this isolate by
upscale the production of laccase in order to meet the demands of the
requirement for higher enzyme titer for the bioremediation of textile
dyes.
Abstract: The present study investigated the protective effect of
thymoquinone (TQ), against cadmium-induced kidney injury in rats.
Cadmium chloride (1.2 mg Cd/kg/day, s.c.), was given for nine
weeks. TQ treatment (40 mg/kg/day, p.o.) started on the same day of
cadmium administration and continued for nine weeks. TQ
significantly decreased serum creatinine, renal malondialdehyde and
nitric oxide, and significantly increased renal reduced glutathione in
rats received cadmium. Histopathological examination showed that
TQ markedly minimized renal tissue damage induced by cadmium.
Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that TQ markedly decreased
the cadmium-induced expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase,
tumor necrosis factor-α, cyclooxygenase-2, and caspase-3 in renal
tissue. It was concluded that TQ significantly protected against
cadmium nephrotoxicity in rats, through its antioxidant, antiinflammatory,
and antiapoptotic actions.
Abstract: This study investigated the differences in the objective parameters of sound depending on the changes in the lengths of the lateral surfaces of a space and on the replacement of the sound absorbers that are placed on these surfaces. To this end, three models of room were chosen. The widths and heights of these rooms were the same but the lengths of the rooms were changed. The smallest room was 8 m. wide and 10 m. long. The lengths of the other two rooms were 15 m. and 20 m. For each model, the differences in the objective parameters of sound were determined by keeping all the material in the space intact and by changing only the positions of the sound absorbers that were placed on the walls. The sound absorbers that were used on the walls were of two different sizes. The sound absorbers that were placed on the walls were 4 m and 8 m. long and story-height (3 m.). In all model room types, the sound absorbers were placed on the long walls in three different ways: at the end of the long walls where the long walls meet the front wall; at the end of the long walls where the long walls meet the back wall; and in the middle part of the long walls. Except for the specially placed sound absorbers, the ground, wall and ceiling surfaces were covered with three different materials. There were no constructional elements such as doors and windows on the walls. On the surfaces, the materials specified in the Odeon 10 material library were used as coating material. Linoleum was used as flooring material, painted plaster as wall coating material and gypsum boards as ceiling covering (2 layers with a total of 32 mm. thickness). These were preferred due to the fact that they are the commonly used materials for these purposes. It concluded by showing that once the action research application in interior design and architecture were studied it was an effective tool to improve student’s learning, develop their practice in design courses, and it discussed the negative and positive issues that were encountered.
Abstract: The Institutional Sustainability Performance (ISP) of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the Philippines reveals the level of compliance and fidelity of the latter to the mandates of the state. This performance evaluation procedure aims to perpetually monitor and sustain the quality of services provided by the state institutions in the country. Importantly, the SUC level rating is one of the key indicators of the merit system adopted by the state to give incentives to government institutions. With the crucial role of the ISP and SUC level in the performance of an institution and in sustaining quality assurance, this study theorized that the top managers’ capacity to influence is the critical factor in meeting the expectations of the state. This study assessed the top managers’ capacity to influence. The hypothesis in this study proved that leadership style of top managers has significant relationship to the managers’ capacity to influence for institutional sustainability performance. Thus, the subjects of this study were restricted only to the State Universities and Colleges (SUC) that qualified in the top 20 Institutional Sustainability Performance; the digital governance performance, and the SUC leveling status nationwide. The top managers and their subordinates with doctorate of Bulacan State University and Bataan Peninsula State University whose programs have been consistently submitted to accreditation and were ranked Levels III and IV were subjected and participated to the study. Abstract: Introduction: This work is aimed to represent the use of the OPTI-JET CS MD1 MR prototype for application of neutral electrolyzed oxidizing water (NEOW) in magnetic resonance rooms. Material and Methods: We produced and used OPTI-JET CS MD1 MR aerosolisator whereby was performed aerosolization. The presence of microorganisms before and after the aerosolisation was recorded with the help of cyclone air sampling. Colony formed units (CFU) was counted. Results: The number of microorganisms in magnetic resonance 3T room was low as expected. Nevertheless, a possible CFU reduction of 87% was recorded. Conclusions: The research has shown that the use of EOW for the air and hard surface disinfection can considerably reduce the presence of microorganisms and consequently the possibility of hospital infections. It has also demonstrated that the use of OPTI-JET CS MD1 MR is very good. With this research, we started new guidelines for aerosolization in magnetic resonance rooms. Future work: We predict that presented technique works very good but we must focus also on time capacity sensors, and new appropriate toxicological studies.
Abstract: Promotion of the Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) as a construction material for civil engineering projects has invoked numerous researchers to investigate their mechanical behavior. Even though there is satisfactory information about the effects of fiber type and length, concrete mixture, casting type and other variables on the strength and deformability parameters of FRC, the numerical modeling of such materials still needs research attention. The focus of this study is to investigate the feasibility of Concrete Damaged Plasticity (CDP) model in prediction of Macro-synthetic FRC structures behavior. CDP model requires the tensile behavior of concrete to be well characterized. For this purpose, a series of uniaxial direct tension and four point bending tests were conducted on the notched specimens to define bilinear tension softening (post-peak tension stress-strain) behavior. With these parameters obtained, the flexural behavior of macro-synthetic FRC beams were modeled and the results showed a good agreement with the experimental measurements.
Abstract: In this paper, we will discuss about the data interpolation by using the rational cubic Ball curve. To generate a curve with a better and satisfactory smoothness, the curve segments must be connected with a certain amount of continuity. The continuity that we will consider is of type G1 continuity. The conditions considered are known as the G1 Hermite condition. A simple application of the proposed method is to generate an Arabic font satisfying the required continuity.
Abstract: Reinforced concrete (RC) shear wall system of residential buildings is popular in South Korea. RC walls are subjected to axial forces in common and the effect of axial forces on the strength loss of the fire damaged walls has not been investigated. This paper aims at investigating temperature distribution on fire damaged concrete walls having different axial loads. In the experiments, a variable of specimens is axial force ratio. RC walls are fabricated with 150mm of wall thicknesses, 750mm of lengths and 1,300mm of heights having concrete strength of 24MPa. After curing, specimens are heated on one surface with ISO-834 standard time-temperature curve for 2 hours and temperature distributions during the test are measured using thermocouples inside the walls. The experimental results show that the temperature of the RC walls exposed to fire increases as axial force ratio increases. To verify the experiments, finite element (FE) models are generated for coupled temperature-structure analyses. The analytical results of thermal behaviors are in good agreement with the experimental results. The predicted displacement of the walls decreases when the axial force increases.
Abstract: In subjective terms, Polish SME sector occupies a
prominent position in the national economic development, in which
planning of the management strategies should be primarily based on
identifying and meeting the innovation needs. As a research sample, there is chosen a printing sector of industry.
SMEs share in printing sector in Poland is estimated at the level of
81% of all enterprises. In recent years, the printing industry achieved
one of the highest levels of EU support in Poland. There is a
relatively high increase in the development of technological
innovations in equipment and the associated significant increase in
production capacity. It can be also noticed that on average, every
third enterprise belonging to the printing industry has implemented
innovations, but not all of them effected in better economic results.
Therefore, the aim of this article is to evaluate the impact of the
implementation of innovation projects financed from the EU funds
for performance of SMEs in the printing industry. As the results of research of EU funds co-financing effects on the
development of innovation in the printing industry, it was specified
that examined SMEs prefer to implement product innovation to
receive a grant to the project at a level between 40% to 60%, the
remaining part of the investment is usually covered with equity. The most common type of innovation had indicated a single
implementation, related only to the change in process, technology, or
organization. The relationship between variables of the EU funds and
management of innovative activities was verified. It has been
observed that the identified variables arising from the support in a
form of the EU funds had a positive effect on the level of earned
revenue, the increase in margin and in increase in employment as
well. It was confirmed that the implemented innovations supported
by the European funds have a positive impact on the performance of
the printing companies. Although there is a risk that due to the
decreasing demand for printing services such a high level of funding
the companies in this sector will significantly increase competition in
the long term, that may also contribute to the economic problems of
the enterprises belonging to the analyzed branch.
Abstract: Automatic License plate recognition (ALPR) is a technology which recognizes the registration plate or number plate or License plate of a vehicle. In this paper, an Indian vehicle number plate is mined and the characters are predicted in efficient manner. ALPR involves four major technique i) Pre-processing ii) License Plate Location Identification iii) Individual Character Segmentation iv) Character Recognition. The opening phase, named pre-processing helps to remove noises and enhances the quality of the image using the conception of Morphological Operation and Image subtraction. The second phase, the most puzzling stage ascertain the location of license plate using the protocol Canny Edge detection, dilation and erosion. In the third phase, each characters characterized by Connected Component Approach (CCA) and in the ending phase, each segmented characters are conceptualized using cross correlation template matching- a scheme specifically appropriate for fixed format. Major application of ALPR is Tolling collection, Border Control, Parking, Stolen cars, Enforcement, Access Control, Traffic control. The database consists of 500 car images taken under dissimilar lighting condition is used. The efficiency of the system is 97%. Our future focus is Indian Vehicle License Plate Validation (Whether License plate of a vehicle is as per Road transport and highway standard).
Abstract: In this paper, we present an analytical method for
analysis of nano-scale spherical shell subjected to thermo-mechanical
shocks based on nonlocal elasticity theory. Thermo-mechanical
properties of nano shpere is assumed to be temperature dependent.
Governing partial differential equation of motion is solved
analytically by using Laplace transform for time domain and power
series for spacial domain. The results in Laplace domain is
transferred to time domain by employing the fast inverse Laplace
transform (FLIT) method. Accuracy of present approach is assessed
by comparing the the numerical results with the results of published
work in literature. Furtheremore, the effects of non-local parameter
and wall thickness on the dynamic characteristics of the nano-sphere
are studied.
