Abstract: In recent decades, probabilistic constrained optimal
control problems have attracted much attention in many research
fields. Although probabilistic constraints are generally intractable
in an optimization problem, several tractable methods haven been
proposed to handle probabilistic constraints. In most methods,
probabilistic constraints are reduced to deterministic constraints
that are tractable in an optimization problem. However, there is a
gap between the transformed deterministic constraints in case of
known and unknown probability distribution. This paper examines
the conservativeness of probabilistic constrained optimization method
for unknown probability distribution. The objective of this paper is
to provide a quantitative assessment of the conservatism for tractable
constraints in probabilistic constrained optimization with unknown
probability distribution.
Abstract: Web mining is to discover and extract useful
Information. Different users may have different search goals when
they search by giving queries and submitting it to a search engine.
The inference and analysis of user search goals can be very useful for
providing an experience result for a user search query. In this project,
we propose a novel approach to infer user search goals by analyzing
search web logs. First, we propose a novel approach to infer user
search goals by analyzing search engine query logs, the feedback
sessions are constructed from user click-through logs and it
efficiently reflect the information needed for users. Second we
propose a preprocessing technique to clean the unnecessary data’s
from web log file (feedback session). Third we propose a technique
to generate pseudo-documents to representation of feedback sessions
for clustering. Finally we implement k-medoids clustering algorithm
to discover different user search goals and to provide a more optimal
result for a search query based on feedback sessions for the user.
Abstract: Ecological systems are exposed and are influenced by
various natural and anthropogenic disturbances. They produce
various effects and states seeking response symmetry to a state of
global phase coherence or stability and balance of their food webs.
This research project addresses the development of a computational
methodology for modeling plankton food webs. The use of
algorithms to establish connections, the generation of representative
fuzzy multigraphs and application of technical analysis of complex
networks provide a set of tools for defining, analyzing and evaluating
community structure of coastal aquatic ecosystems, beyond the
estimate of possible external impacts to the networks. Thus, this
study aims to develop computational systems and data models to
assess how these ecological networks are structurally and
functionally organized, to analyze the types and degree of
compartmentalization and synchronization between oscillatory and
interconnected elements network and the influence of disturbances on
the overall pattern of rhythmicity of the system.
Abstract: Cole-Cole parameters of 40 post-menopausal women
are compared with their DEXA bone mineral density measurements.
Impedance characteristics of four extremities are compared; left and
right extremities are statistically same, but lower extremities are
statistically different than upper ones due to their different fat
content. The correlation of Cole-Cole impedance parameters to bone
mineral density (BMD) is observed to be higher for dominant arm.
With the post-menopausal population, ANOVA tests of the dominant
arm characteristic frequency, as a predictor for DEXA classified
osteopenic and osteoporic population around lumbar spine, is
statistically very significant. When used for total lumbar spine
osteoporosis diagnosis, the area under the Receiver Operating Curve
of the characteristic frequency is 0.830, suggesting that the Cole-Cole
plot characteristic frequency could be a useful diagnostic parameter
when integrated into standard screening methods for osteoporosis.
Moreover, the characteristic frequency can be directly measured by
monitoring frequency driven angular behavior of the dominant arm
without performing any complex calculation.

Abstract: The properties of hollow sandcrete blocks produced in
Minna, Nigeria are presented. Sandcrete block is made of cement,
water and sand binded together in certain mix proportions. For the
purpose of this work, fifty (50) commercial sandcrete block industries
were visited in Minna, Nigeria to obtain block samples and
aggregates used for the manufacture, and to take inventory of the mix
composition and the production process. Sieve analysis tests were
conduction on the soil sample from various block industries to
ascertain their quality to be used for block making. The mix ratios
were also investigated. Five (5) nine inches (9’’ or 225mm) blocks
were obtained from each block industry and tested for dimensional
compliance and compressive strength. The results of the soil test
shows that the grading fall within the limit for natural aggregate and
can easily are used to obtain workable mix. Physical examinations of
the block sizes show slight deviation from the standard requirement
in NIS 87:2000. Compressive strength of hollow sandcrete blocks in
range of 0.12 N/mm2 to 0.54 N/mm2 was obtained which is below the
recommendable value of 3.45 N/mm2 for load bearing hollow
sandcrete blocks. This indicates that these blocks are below the
standard for load-bearing sandcrete blocks and cannot be used as load
bearing walling units. The mix composition also indicated low
cement content resulting in low compressive strength. Most of the
commercial block industries visited does not take curing very serious.
Water were only sprinkled ones or twice before the blocks were
stacked and made readily available for sale. It is recommended that a
mix ratio of 1:4 to 1:6 should be used for the production of sandcrete
blocks and proper curing practice should be adhered. Blocks should
also be cured for 14 days before making them available for
consumers.
Abstract: In this paper, to model a real life wind turbine, a
probabilistic approach is proposed to model the dynamics of the
blade elements of a small axial wind turbine under extreme stochastic
wind speeds conditions. It was found that the power and the torque
probability density functions even-dough decreases at these extreme
wind speeds but are not infinite. Moreover, we also fund that it
is possible to stabilize the power coefficient (stabilizing the output
power)above rated wind speeds by turning some control parameters.
This method helps to explain the effect of turbulence on the quality
and quantity of the harness power and aerodynamic torque.
Abstract: In this paper, the notion of rank−k numerical range
of rectangular complex matrix polynomials are introduced. Some
algebraic and geometrical properties are investigated. Moreover, for
Є > 0, the notion of Birkhoff-James approximate orthogonality
sets for Є−higher rank numerical ranges of rectangular matrix
polynomials is also introduced and studied. The proposed definitions
yield a natural generalization of the standard higher rank numerical
ranges.
Abstract: This paper proposes that in the course of evolution
pitch structure became a human specific tool of communication the
function of which is to induce emotional states such as uncertainty
and cohesion. By the means of eliciting these emotions during
collective music performance people are able to unconsciously give
cues concerning social acceptance. This is probably one of the
reasons why in all cultures people collectively perform tonal music. It
is also suggested that tonal pitch structure had been invented socially
before it became an evolutionary innovation of hominines. It means
that a predisposition to tonally organize pitches evolved by the means
of ‘Baldwin effect’ – a process in which natural selection transforms
the learned response of an organism into the instinctive response. In
the proposed, hypothetical evolutionary scenario of the emergence of
tonal pitch structure social forces such as a need for closer
cooperation play the crucial role.
Abstract: This paper introduces a method to optimal design of a
hybrid Wind/Photovoltaic/Fuel cell generation system for a typical
domestic load that is not located near the electricity grid. In this
configuration the combination of a battery, an electrolyser, and a
hydrogen storage tank are used as the energy storage system. The aim
of this design is minimization of overall cost of generation scheme
over 20 years of operation. The Matlab/Simulink is applied for
choosing the appropriate structure and the optimization of system
sizing. A teaching learning based optimization is used to optimize the
cost function. An overall power management strategy is designed for
the proposed system to manage power flows among the different
energy sources and the storage unit in the system. The results have
been analyzed in terms of technical and economic. The simulation
results indicate that the proposed hybrid system would be a feasible
solution for stand-alone applications at remote locations.
Abstract: The growing number of computer viruses and the
detection of zero day malware have been the concern for security
researchers for a large period of time. Existing antivirus products
(AVs) rely on detecting virus signatures which do not provide a full
solution to the problems associated with these viruses. The use of
logic formulae to model the behaviour of viruses is one of the most
encouraging recent developments in virus research, which provides
alternatives to classic virus detection methods. In this paper, we
proposed a comparative study about different virus detection
techniques. This paper provides the advantages and drawbacks of
different detection techniques. Different techniques will be used in
this paper to provide a discussion about what technique is more
effective to detect computer viruses.
Abstract: In this article, a new method is proposed for the measuring of well-being inequality through a model composed of superimposing satisfaction waves. The displacement of households’ satisfactory state (i.e. satisfaction) is defined in a satisfaction string. The duration of the satisfactory state for a given period is measured in order to determine the relationship between utility and total satisfactory time, itself dependent on the density and tension of each satisfaction string. Thus, individual cardinal total satisfaction values are computed by way of a one-dimensional form for scalar sinusoidal (harmonic) moving wave function, using satisfaction waves with varying amplitudes and frequencies which allow us to measure wellbeing inequality. One advantage to using satisfaction waves is the ability to show that individual utility and consumption amounts would probably not commute; hence, it is impossible to measure or to know simultaneously the values of these observables from the dataset. Thus, we crystallize the problem by using a Heisenberg-type uncertainty resolution for self-adjoint economic operators. We propose to eliminate any estimation bias by correlating the standard deviations of selected economic operators; this is achieved by replacing the aforementioned observed uncertainties with households’ perceived uncertainties (i.e. corrected standard deviations) obtained through the logarithmic psychophysical law proposed by Weber and Fechner.
Abstract: The access to relevant information that is adapted to
user’s needs, preferences and environment is a challenge in many
applications running. That causes an appearance of context-aware
systems. To facilitate the development of this class of applications, it
is necessary that these applications share a common context
metamodel. In this article, we will present our context metamodel
that is defined using the OMG Meta Object facility (MOF).This
metamodel is based on the analysis and synthesis of context concepts
proposed in literature.
Abstract: Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) is a collection
of mobile devices forming a communication network without
infrastructure. MANET is vulnerable to security threats due to
network’s limited security, dynamic topology, scalability and the lack
of central management. The Quality of Service (QoS) routing in such
networks is limited by network breakage caused by node mobility or
nodes energy depletions. The impact of node mobility on trust
establishment is considered and its use to propagate trust through a
network is investigated in this paper. This work proposes an
enhanced Associativity Based Routing (ABR) with Fuzzy based
Trust (Fuzzy- ABR) routing protocol for MANET to improve QoS
and to mitigate network attacks.
Abstract: A new design of aerostatic thrust bearing is proposed
for high static stiffness. The bearing body, which is mead of polymer
covered with metallic membrane, is held by a circular ring. Such a
support helps form a concave air gap to grasp the air pressure. The
polymer body, which can be made rapidly by either injection or
molding is able to provide extra damping under dynamic loading. The
smooth membrane not only serves as the bearing surface but also
protects the polymer body. The restrictor is a capillary inside a silicone
tube. It can passively compensate the variation of load by expanding
the capillary diameter for more air flux. In the present example, the
stiffness soars from 15.85 N/μm of typical bearing to 349.85 N/μm at
bearing elevation 9.5 μm; meanwhile the load capacity also enhances
from 346.86 N to 704.18 N.
Abstract: Electrohydraulic servo system have been used in
industry in a wide number of applications. Its dynamics are highly
nonlinear and also have large extent of model uncertainties and
external disturbances. In this paper, a robust back-stepping control
(RBSC) scheme is proposed to overcome the problem of disturbances
and system uncertainties effectively and to improve the tracking
performance of EHS systems. In order to implement the proposed
control scheme, the system uncertainties in EHS systems are
considered as total leakage coefficient and effective oil volume. In
addition, in order to obtain the virtual controls for stabilizing system,
the update rule for the system uncertainty term is induced by
the Lyapunov control function (LCF). To verify the performance and
robustness of the proposed control system, computer simulation of
the proposed control system using Matlab/Simulink Software
is executed. From the computer simulation, it was found that the
RBSC system produces the desired tracking performance and has
robustness to the disturbances and system uncertainties of EHS
systems.
Abstract: Cadmium (II) (Cd) is one of the major toxic elemental
pollutants, which is hazardous for humans, animals and plants. γ-
Polyglutamic acid (γ-PGA) is an extracellular biopolymer produced
by several species of Bacillus which has been reported to be an
effective biosorbent for metal ions. The effect of γ-PGA on growth of
rice grown under laboratory conditions was investigated. Rice seeds
were germinated and then grown at 30±1°C on filter paper soaked
with Cd solution and γ-PGA for 7 days. The result showed that Cd
significantly inhibited the growth of roots, shoots by reducing root,
and shoot lengths. Fresh and dry weights also decreased compared
with control; however, the addition of 500 mg·L-1 γ-PGA alleviated
rice seedlings from the adverse effects of Cd. The analysis of
physiological traits revealed that Cd caused a decrease in the total
chlorophyll and soluble protein contents and amylase activities in all
treatments. The Cd content in seedling tissues increased for the Cd
250 μM treatment (P
Abstract: Land reallocation is one of the most important steps in
land consolidation projects. Many different models were proposed for
land reallocation in the literature such as Fuzzy Logic, block priority
based land reallocation and Spatial Decision Support Systems. A
model including four parts is considered for automatic block
reallocation with genetic algorithm method in land consolidation
projects. These stages are preparing data tables for a project land,
determining conditions and constraints of land reallocation, designing
command steps and logical flow chart of reallocation algorithm and
finally writing program codes of Genetic Algorithm respectively. In
this study, we designed the first three steps of the considered model
comprising four steps.
Abstract: In this research, thorium dioxide mesoporous
nanocrystalline powder was synthesized through the sol-gel method
using hydrated thorium nitrate and ammonium hydroxide as starting
materials and Triton X100 as surfactant. ThO2 gel was characterized
by thermogravimetric (TGA), and prepared ThO2 powder was
subjected to scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction
(XRD), and Brunauer-Emett-Teller (BET) analyses studies. Detailed
analyses show that prepared powder consisted of phase with the
space group Fm3m of thoria and its crystalline size was 12.6 nm. The
thoria possesses 16.7 m2/g surface area and the pore volume and size
calculated to be 0.0423 cc/g and 1.947 nm, respectively.
Abstract: The localization information is crucial for the
operation of WSN. There are principally two types of localization
algorithms. The Range-based localization algorithm has strict
requirements on hardware, thus is expensive to be implemented in
practice. The Range-free localization algorithm reduces the hardware
cost. However, it can only achieve high accuracy in ideal scenarios.
In this paper, we locate unknown nodes by incorporating the
advantages of these two types of methods. The proposed algorithm
makes the unknown nodes select the nearest anchor using the
Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and choose two other
anchors which are the most accurate to achieve the estimated
location. Our algorithm improves the localization accuracy compared
with previous algorithms, which has been demonstrated by the
simulating results.
