Abstract: Bonding has become a routine procedure in several
dental specialties – from prosthodontics to conservative dentistry and
even orthodontics. In many of these fields it is important to be able to
investigate the bonded interfaces to assess their quality. All currently
employed investigative methods are invasive, meaning that samples
are destroyed in the testing procedure and cannot be used again. We
have investigated the interface between human enamel and bonded
ceramic brackets non-invasively, introducing a combination of new
investigative methods – optical coherence tomography (OCT),
fluorescence OCT and confocal microscopy (CM). Brackets were
conventionally bonded on conditioned buccal surfaces of teeth. The
bonding was assessed using these methods. Three dimensional
reconstructions of the detected material defects were developed using
manual and semi-automatic segmentation. The results clearly prove
that OCT, fluorescence OCT and CM are useful in orthodontic
bonding investigations.
Abstract: Kepsut-Dursunbey volcanic field (KDVF) is located
in NW Turkey and contains various products of the post-collisional
Neogene magmatic activity. Two distinct volcanic suites have been
recognized; the Kepsut volcanic suite (KVS) and the Dursunbey
volcanic suite (DVS). The KVS includes basaltic trachyandesitebasaltic
andesite-andesite lavas and associated pyroclastic rocks. The
DVS consists of dacite-rhyodacite lavas and extensive pumice-ash
fall and flow deposits. Petrographical features (i.e. existence of
xenocrysts, glomerocrysts, and mixing-compatible textures) and
mineral chemistry of phenocryst assemblages of both suites provide
evidence for magma mixing/AFC. Calculated crystallization
pressures and temperatures give values of 5.7–7.0 kbar and 927–982
°C for the KVS and 3.7–5.3 kbar and 783-787°C for the DVS,
indicating separate magma reservoirs and crystallization in magma
chambers at deep and mid crustal levels, respectively. These
observations support the establishment and evolution of KDVF
magma system promoted by episodic basaltic inputs which may
generate and mix with crustal melts.
Abstract: The p53 tumor suppressor gene plays two important
roles in genomic stability: blocking cell proliferation after DNA
damage until it has been repaired, and starting apoptosis if the
damage is too critical. Codon 72 exon4 polymorphism (Arg72Pro) of
the P53 gene has been implicated in cancer risk. Various studies have
been done to investigate the status of p53 at codon 72 for arginine
(Arg) and proline (Pro) alleles in different populations and also the
association of this codon 72 polymorphism with various tumors. Our
objective was to investigate the possible association between P53
Arg72Pro polymorphism and susceptibility to colorectal cancer
among Isfahan and Chaharmahal Va Bakhtiari (a part of south west
of Iran) population. We investigated the status of p53 at codon 72 for
Arg/Arg, Arg/Pro and Pro/Pro allele polymorphisms in blood
samples from 145 colorectal cancer patients and 140 controls by
Nested-PCR of p53 exon 4 and digestion with BstUI restriction
enzyme and the DNA fragments were then resolved by
electrophoresis in 2% agarose gel. The Pro allele was 279 bp, while
the Arg allele was restricted into two fragments of 160 and 119 bp.
Among the 145 colorectal cancer cases 49 cases (33.79%) were
homozygous for the Arg72 allele (Arg/Arg), 18 cases (12.41%) were
homozygous for the Pro72 allele (Pro/Pro) and 78 cases (53.8%)
found in heterozygous (Arg/Pro).
In conclusion, it can be said that p53Arg/Arg genotype may be
correlated with possible increased risk of this kind of cancers in south
west of Iran.
Abstract: In this paper we present a method of abrupt cut detection with a novel logic of frames- comparison. Actual frame is compared with its motion estimated prediction instead of comparison with successive frame. Four different similarity metrics were employed to estimate the resemblance of compared frames. Obtained results were evaluated by standard used measures of test accuracy and compared with existing approach. Based on the results, we claim the proposed method is more effective and Pearson correlation coefficient obtained the best results among chosen similarity metrics.
Abstract: Information sharing and exchange, rather than
information processing, is what characterizes information
technology in the 21st century. Ontologies, as shared common
understanding, gain increasing attention, as they appear as the
most promising solution to enable information sharing both at
a semantic level and in a machine-processable way. Domain
Ontology-based modeling has been exploited to provide
shareability and information exchange among diversified,
heterogeneous applications of enterprises.
Contextual ontologies are “an explicit specification of
contextual conceptualization". That is: ontology is
characterized by concepts that have multiple representations
and they may exist in several contexts. Hence, contextual
ontologies are a set of concepts and relationships, which are
seen from different perspectives. Contextualization is to allow
for ontologies to be partitioned according to their contexts.
The need for contextual ontologies in enterprise modeling
has become crucial due to the nature of today's competitive
market. Information resources in enterprise is distributed and
diversified and is in need to be shared and communicated
locally through the intranet and globally though the internet.
This paper discusses the roles that ontologies play in an
enterprise modeling, and how ontologies assist in building a
conceptual model in order to provide communicative and
interoperable information systems. The issue of enterprise
modeling based on contextual domain ontology is also
investigated, and a framework is proposed for an enterprise
model that consists of various applications.
Abstract: This paper presents a experiment to estimate the
influences of cutting conditions in microstructure changes of
machining austenitic 304 stainless steel, especially for wear insert. The
wear insert were prefabricated with a width of 0.5 mm. And the forces,
temperature distribution, RS, and microstructure changes were
measured by force dynamometer, infrared thermal camera, X-ray
diffraction, XRD, SEM, respectively. The results told that the different
combinations of machining condition have a significant influence on
machined surface microstructure changes. In addition to that, the
ANOVA and AOMwere used to tell the different influences of cutting
speed, feed rate, and wear insert.
Abstract: High quality requirements analysis is one of the most
crucial activities to ensure the success of a software project, so that
requirements verification for software system becomes more and more
important in Requirements Engineering (RE) and it is one of the most
helpful strategies for improving the quality of software system.
Related works show that requirement elicitation and analysis can be
facilitated by ontological approaches and semantic web technologies.
In this paper, we proposed a hybrid method which aims to verify
requirements with structural and formal semantics to detect
interactions. The proposed method is twofold: one is for modeling
requirements with the semantic web language OWL, to construct a
semantic context; the other is a set of interaction detection rules which
are derived from scenario-based analysis and represented with
semantic web rule language (SWRL). SWRL based rules are working
with rule engines like Jess to reason in semantic context for
requirements thus to detect interactions. The benefits of the proposed
method lie in three aspects: the method (i) provides systematic steps
for modeling requirements with an ontological approach, (ii) offers
synergy of requirements elicitation and domain engineering for
knowledge sharing, and (3)the proposed rules can systematically assist
in requirements interaction detection.
Abstract: In this study we investigate silica nanoparticle (SiO2- NP) effects on the structure and phase properties of supported lipid monolayers and bilayers, coupling surface pressure measurements, fluorescence microscopy and atomic force microscopy. SiO2-NPs typically in size range of 10nm to 100 nm in diameter are tested. Our results suggest first that lipid molecules organization depends to their nature. Secondly, lipid molecules in the vinicity of big aggregates nanoparticles organize in liquid condensed phase whereas small aggregates are localized in both fluid liquid-expanded (LE) and liquid-condenced (LC). We demonstrated also by atomic force microscopy that by measuring friction forces it is possible to get information as if nanoparticle aggregates are recovered or not by lipid monolayers and bilayers.
Abstract: This paper describes how the correct endian mode of
the TMS320C6713 DSK board can be identified. It also explains how
the TMS320C6713 DSK board can be used in the little endian and in
the big endian modes for assembly language programming in
particular and for signal processing in general. Similarly, it discusses
how crucially important it is for a user of the TMS320C6713 DSK
board to identify the mode of operation and then use it correctly
during the development stages of the assembly language
programming; otherwise, it will cause unnecessary confusion and
erroneous results as far as storing data into the memory and loading
data from the memory is concerned. Furthermore, it highlights and
strongly recommends to the users of the TMS320C6713 DSK board
to be aware of the availability and importance of various display
options in the Code Composer Studio (CCS) for correctly
interpreting and displaying the desired data in the memory. The
information presented in this paper will be of great importance and
interest to those practitioners and developers who wants to use the
TMS320C6713 DSK board for assembly language programming as
well as input-output signal processing manipulations. Finally,
examples that clearly illustrate the concept are presented.
Abstract: Sedimentation is a hydraulic phenomenon that is
emerging as a serious challenge in river engineering. When the flow
reaches a certain state that gather potential energy, it shifts the
sediment load along channel bed. The transport of such materials can
be in the form of suspended and bed loads. The movement of these
along the river course and channels and the ways in which this could
influence the water intakes is considered as the major challenges for
sustainable O&M of hydraulic structures. This could be very serious
in arid and semi-arid regions like Iran, where inappropriate watershed
management could lead to shifting a great deal of sediments into the
reservoirs and irrigation systems. This paper aims to investigate
sedimentation in the Western Canal of Dez Diversion Weir in Iran,
identifying factors which influence the process and provide ways in
which to mitigate its detrimental effects by using the SHARC
Software.
For the purpose of this paper, data from the Dezful water authority
and Dezful Hydrometric Station pertinent to a river course of about 6
Km were used.
Results estimated sand and silt bed loads concentrations to be 193
ppm and 827ppm respectively. Given the available data on average
annual bed loads and average suspended sediment loads of 165ppm
and 837ppm, there was a significant statistical difference (16%)
between the sand grains, whereas no significant difference (1.2%)
was find in the silt grain sizes. One explanation for such finding
being that along the 6 Km river course there was considerable
meandering effects which explains recent shift in the hydraulic
behavior along the stream course under investigation. The sand
concentration in downstream relative to present state of the canal
showed a steep descending curve. Sediment trapping on the other
hand indicated a steep ascending curve. These occurred because the
diversion weir was not considered in the simulation model.
Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation
between Facebook involvement and internet addiction. We sampled
577 university students in Taiwan and administered a survey of
Facebook usage, Facebook involvement scale (FIS), and internet
addiction scale. The FIS comprises three factors (salience, emotional
support, and amusement). Results showed that the Facebook
involvement scale had good reliability and validity. The correlation
between Facebook involvement and internet addiction was measured
at .395. This means that a higher degree of Facebook involvement
indicates a greater degree of psychological dependency on the internet,
and a greater propensity towards social withdrawal and other negative
psychological consequences associated with internet addiction.
Besides, the correlations between three factors of FIS (salience,
emotional support, and amusement) and internet addiction ranged
from .313-372, indicating that these neither of these factors (salience,
emotional support, and amusement) is more effective than the others in
predicting internet dependency.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a hardware and software
design method for automotive Electronic Control Units (ECU)
considering the functional safety. The proposed ECU is considered for
the application to Electro-Mechanical Actuator systems and the
validity of the design method is shown by the application to the
Electro-Mechanical Brake (EMB) control system which is used as a
brake actuator in Brake-By-Wire (BBW) systems. The importance of a
functional safety-based design approach to EMB ECU design has been
emphasized because of its safety-critical functions, which are executed
with the aid of many electric actuators, sensors, and application
software. Based on hazard analysis and risk assessment according to
ISO26262, the EMB system should be ASIL-D-compliant, the highest
ASIL level. To this end, an external signature watchdog and an
Infineon 32-bit microcontroller TriCore are used to reduce risks
considering common-cause hardware failure. Moreover, a software
design method is introduced for implementing functional
safety-oriented monitoring functions based on an asymmetric dual
core architecture considering redundancy and diversity. The validity
of the proposed ECU design approach is verified by using the EMB
Hardware-In-the-Loop (HILS) system, which consists of the EMB
assembly, actuator ECU, a host PC, and a few debugging devices.
Furthermore, it is shown that the existing sensor fault tolerant control
system can be used more effectively for mitigating the effects of
hardware and software faults by applying the proposed ECU design
method.
Abstract: A composite made of plasma functionalized multiwall
carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) coated with SnO2 was synthesized by
sonochemical precipitation method. Thick layer of this
nanocomposite material was used as ethanol sensor at low
temperatures. The composite sensitivity for ethanol has increased by
a factor of 2 at room temperature and by a factor of 13 at 250°C in
comparison to that of pure SnO2. SEM image of nanocomposite
material showed MWNTs were embedded in SnO2 matrix and also a
higher surface area was observed in the presence of functionalized
MWNTs. Greatly improved sensitivity of the composite material to
ethanol can be attributed to new gas accessing passes through
MWNTs and higher specific surface area.
Abstract: This research details a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) approach to model fluid flow in a journal bearing with 8 equispaced semi-circular axial grooves. Water is used as the lubricant and is fed from one end of the bearing to the other, under pressure. The geometry of the bearing is modeled using a commercially available modeling software GAMBIT and the flow analysis is performed using a dedicated CFD analysis software FLUENT. The pressure distribution in the bearing clearance is obtained from FLUENT for various whirl ratios and is used to calculate the hydrodynamic force components in the radial and tangential direction of the bearing. These values along with the various whirl speeds can be used to do a regression analysis to determine the stiffness and damping coefficients. The values obtained are then compared with the stiffness and damping coefficients of a 3 Axial groove water lubricated journal bearing and those obtained from a FORTRAN code for a similar bearing.
Abstract: In this paper the concept of Q-fuzzification of ideals of Γ-semigroups has been introduced and some important properties have been investigated. A characterization of regular Γ-semigroup in terms of Q-fuzzy ideals has been obtained. Operator semigroups of a Γ-semigroup has been made to work by obtaining various relationships between Q-fuzzy ideals of a Γ-semigroup and that of its operator semigroups.
Abstract: The utility of expert system generators has been
widely recognized in many applications. Several generators based on
concept of the paradigm object, have been recently proposed. The
generator of oriented object expert system (GSEOO) offers
languages that are often complex and difficult to use. We propose in
this paper an extension of the expert system generator, JESS, which
permits a friendly use of this expert system. The new tool, called
VISUAL JESS, bring two main improvements to JESS. The first
improvement concerns the easiness of its utilization while giving
back transparency to the syntax and semantic aspects of the JESS
programming language. The second improvement permits an easy
access and modification of the JESS knowledge basis. The
implementation of VISUAL JESS is made so that it is extensible and
portable.
Abstract: Component handling system is one of the important sub systems of Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) used for fuel handling. Core handling system is again a sub system of component handling system. Core handling system consists of in-vessel and ex-vessel subassembly handling. In-vessel core handling involves transfer arm, large rotatable plug and small rotatable plug operations. Modeling and simulation of in-vessel core handling is a part of development of Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor Operator Training Simulator. This paper deals with simulation and modeling of operations of transfer arm, large rotatable plug and small rotatable plug needed for in-vessel core handling. Process modeling was developed in house using platform independent Cµ code with OpenGL (Open Graphics Library). The control logic models and virtual panel were modeled using simulation tool.
Abstract: Herein, the organic semiconductor methyl orange
(MO), is investigated for the first time for its electronic applications.
For this purpose, Al/MO/n-Si heterojunction is fabricated through
economical cheap and simple “drop casting” technique. The currentvoltage
(I-V) measurements of the device are made at room
temperature under dark conditions. The I-V characteristics of
Al/MO/n-Si junction exhibits asymmetrical and rectifying behavior
that confirms the formation of diode. The diode parameters such as
rectification ratio (RR), turn on voltage (Vturn on), reverse saturation
current (I0), ideality factor (n), barrier height ( b
f ), series resistance
(Rs) and shunt resistance (Rsh) are determined from I-V curves using
Schottky equations. These values of these parameters are also
extracted and verified by applying Cheung’s functions. The
conduction mechanisms are explained from the forward bias I-V
characteristics using the power law.
Abstract: The notion of k-fuzzy ideals of semirings was introduced
by Kim and Park in 1996. In 2003, Dutta and Kar introduced
a notion of ternary semirings. This structure is a generalization of
ternary rings and semirings. The main purpose of this paper is to
introduce and study k-fuzzy ideals in ternary semirings analogous to
k-fuzzy ideals in semirings considered by Kim and Park.
Abstract: In films, visual effects have played the role of
expressing realities more realistically or describing imaginations as if
they are real. Such images are immediated images representing
realism, and the logic of immediation for the reality of images has
been perceived dominant in visual effects. In order for immediation to
have an identity as immediation, there should be the opposite concept
hypermediation.
In the mid 2000s, hypermediated images were settled as a code of
mass culture in Asia. Thus, among Asian films highly popular in those
days, this study selected five displaying hypermediated images – 2 Korean, 2 Japanese, and 1 Thailand movies – and examined the
semiotic meanings of such images using Roland Barthes- directional and implicated meaning analysis and Metz-s paradigmatic analysis
method, focusing on how hypermediated images work in the general
context of the films, how they are associated with spaces, and what
meanings they try to carry.
