Abstract: This work presents an application of Linear Matrix
Inequalities (LMI) for the robust control of an F-16 aircraft through
an algorithm ensuring the damping factor to the closed loop system.
The results show that the zero and gain settings are sufficient to ensure
robust performance and stability with respect to various operating
points. The technique used is the pole placement, which aims to put
the system in closed loop poles in a specific region of the complex
plane. Test results using a dynamic model of the F-16 aircraft are
presented and discussed.
Abstract: Traveling Wave Ultrasonic Motor (TWUM) is a compact, precise, and silent actuator generating high torque at low speed without gears. Moreover, the TWUM has a high holding torque without supply, which makes this motor as an attractive solution for holding position of robotic arms. However, their nonlinear dynamics, and the presence of load-dependent dead zones often limit their use. Those issues can be overcome in closed loop with effective and precise controllers. In this paper, robust H-infinity (H∞) and discrete time RST position controllers are presented. The H∞ controller is designed in continuous time with additional weighting filters to ensure the robustness in the case of uncertain motor model and external disturbances. Robust RST controller based on the pole placement method is also designed and compared to the H∞. Simulink model of TWUM is used to validate the stability and the robustness of the two proposed controllers.
Abstract: This paper studies the design of an adaptive control strategy to tune an active steering system for better drivability and maneuverability. In the first step, adaptive control strategy is applied to estimate the uncertain parameters on-line (e.g. cornering stiffness), then the estimated parameters are fed into the pole placement controller to generate corrective feedback gain to improve the steering system dynamic’s characteristics. The simulations are evaluated for three types of road conditions (dry, wet, and icy), and the performance of the adaptive pole placement control (APPC) are compared with pole placement control (PPC) and a passive system. The results show that the APPC strategy significantly improves the yaw rate and side slip angle of a bicycle plant model.
Abstract: In industrial environments, the heat exchanger is a
necessary component to any strategy of energy conversion. Much of
thermal energy used in industrial processes passes at least one times
by a heat exchanger, and methods systems recovering thermal
energy.
This survey paper tries to presents in a systemic way an sample
control of a heat exchanger by comparison between three controllers
LQR (linear quadratic regulator), PID (proportional, integrator and
derivate) and Pole Placement. All of these controllers are used mainly
in industrial sectors (chemicals, petrochemicals, steel, food
processing, energy production, etc…) of transportation (automotive,
aeronautics), but also in the residential sector and tertiary (heating, air
conditioning, etc...) The choice of a heat exchanger, for a given
application depends on many parameters: field temperature and
pressure of fluids, and physical properties of aggressive fluids,
maintenance and space. It is clear that the fact of having an
exchanger appropriate, well-sized, well made and well used allows
gain efficiency and energy processes.
Abstract: This paper presents the application of discrete-time
variable structure control with sliding mode based on the 'reaching
law' method for robust control of a 'simple inverted pendulum on
moving cart' - a standard nonlinear benchmark system. The
controllers designed using the above techniques are completely
insensitive to parametric uncertainty and external disturbance. The
controller design is carried out using pole placement technique to find
state feedback gain matrix , which decides the dynamic behavior
of the system during sliding mode. This is followed by feedback gain
realization using the control law which is synthesized from 'Gao-s
reaching law'. The model of a single inverted pendulum and the
discrete variable structure control controller are developed, simulated
in MATLAB-SIMULINK and results are presented. The response of
this simulation is compared with that of the discrete linear quadratic
regulator (DLQR) and the advantages of sliding mode controller over
DLQR are also presented
Abstract: In the control theory one attempts to find a controller
that provides the best possible performance with respect to some
given measures of performance. There are many sorts of controllers
e.g. a typical PID controller, LQR controller, Fuzzy controller etc. In
the paper will be introduced polynomial controller with novel tuning
method which is based on the special pole placement encoding
scheme and optimization by Genetic Algorithms (GA). The examples
will show the performance of the novel designed polynomial
controller with comparison to common PID controller.
