Abstract: This paper presents a generalized d-q model of n- phase induction motor drive. Multi -phase (n-phase) induction motor (more than three phases) drives possess several advantages over conventional three-phase drives, such as reduced current/phase without increasing voltage/phase, lower torque pulsation, higher torque density, fault tolerance, stability, high efficiency and lower current ripple. When the number of phases increases, it is also possible to increase the power in the same frame. In this paper, a generalized dq-axis model is developed in Matlab/Simulink for an n-phase induction motor. The simulation results are presented for 5, 6, 7, 9 and 12 phase induction motor under varying load conditions. Transient response of the multi-phase induction motors are given for different number of phases. Fault tolerant feature is also analyzed for 5-phase induction motor drive.
Abstract: This paper presents design and implements a voltage
source inverter type space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM)
for control a speed of induction motor. This scheme leads to be able
to adjust the speed of the motor by control the frequency and
amplitude of the stator voltage, the ratio of stator voltage to
frequency should be kept constant. The fuzzy logic controller is also
introduced to the system for keeping the motor speed to be constant
when the load varies. The experimental results in testing the 0.22 kW
induction motor from no-load condition to rated condition show the
effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.
Abstract: Rotor Flux based Model Reference Adaptive System
(RF-MRAS) is the most popularly used conventional speed
estimation scheme for sensor-less IM drives. In this scheme, the
voltage model equations are used for the reference model. This
encounters major drawbacks at low frequencies/speed which leads to
the poor performance of RF-MRAS. Replacing the reference model
using Neural Network (NN) based flux estimator provides an
alternate solution and addresses such drawbacks. This paper
identifies an NN based flux estimator using Single Neuron Cascaded
(SNC) Architecture. The proposed SNC-NN model replaces the
conventional voltage model in RF-MRAS to form a novel MRAS
scheme named as SNC-NN-MRAS. Through simulation the proposed
SNC-NN-MRAS is shown to be promising in terms of all major
issues and robustness to parameter variation. The suitability of the
proposed SNC-NN-MRAS based speed estimator and its advantages
over RF-MRAS for sensor-less induction motor drives is
comprehensively presented through extensive simulations.
Abstract: This paper presents a new technique of compensation
of the effect of variation parameters in the direct field oriented
control of induction motor. The proposed method uses an adaptive
tuning of the value of synchronous speed to obtain the robustness for
the field oriented control. We show that this adaptive tuning allows
having robustness for direct field oriented control to changes in rotor
resistance, load torque and rotational speed. The effectiveness of the
proposed control scheme is verified by numerical simulations. The
numerical validation results of the proposed scheme have presented
good performances compared to the usual direct-field oriented
control.
Abstract: The switching lag-time and the voltage drop across
the power devices cause serious waveform distortions and
fundamental voltage drop in pulse width-modulated inverter output.
These phenomenons are conspicuous when both the output frequency
and voltage are low. To estimate the output voltage from the PWM
reference signal it is essential to take account of these imperfections
and to correct them. In this paper, on-line compensation method is
presented. It needs three simple blocs to add at the ideal reference
voltages. This method does not require any additional hardware
circuit and off- line experimental measurement. The paper includes
experimental results to demonstrate the validity of the proposed
method. It is applied, finally, in case of indirect vector controlled
induction machine and implemented using dSpace card.
Abstract: In this paper, we investigated vector control of an induction machine taking into account discretization problems of the command. In the purpose to show how to include in a discrete model of this current control and with rotor time constant update. The results of simulation obtained are very satisfaisant. That was possible thanks to the good choice of the values of the parameters of the regulators used which shows, the founded good of the method used, for the choice of the parameters of the discrete regulators. The simulation results are presented at the end of this paper.
Abstract: This paper deals with the synthesis of fuzzy state feedback controller of induction motor with optimal performance. First, the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model is employed to approximate a non linear system in the synchronous d-q frame rotating with electromagnetic field-oriented. Next, a fuzzy controller is designed to stabilise the induction motor and guaranteed a minimum disturbance attenuation level for the closed-loop system. The gains of fuzzy control are obtained by solving a set of Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI). Finally, simulation results are given to demonstrate the controller-s effectiveness.
Abstract: The ability to predict an accurate temperature
distribution requires the knowledge of the losses, the thermal
characteristics of the materials, and the cooling conditions, all of
which are very difficult to quantify. In this paper, the impact of the
effects of iron and copper losses are investigated separately and
their effects on the heating in various points of the stator of an
induction motor, is highlighted by using two simple tests. In addition,
the effect of a defect, such as an open circuit in a phase of the stator,
on the heating is also obtained by a no-load test.
The squirrel cage induction motor is rated at 2.2 kW; 380 V; 5.2
A; Δ connected; 50 Hz; 1420 rpm and the class of insulation F, has
been thermally tested under several load conditions. Several
thermocouples were placed in strategic points of the stator.
Abstract: In this paper a novel, simple and reliable digital firing
scheme has been implemented for speed control of three-phase
induction motor using ac voltage controller. The system consists of
three-phase supply connected to the three-phase induction motor via
three triacs and its control circuit. The ac voltage controller has three
modes of operation depending on the shape of supply current. The
performance of the induction motor differs in each mode where the
speed is directly proportional with firing angle in two modes and
inversely in the third one. So, the control system has to detect the
current mode of operation to choose the correct firing angle of triacs.
Three sensors are used to feed the line currents to control system to
detect the mode of operation. The control strategy is implemented
using a low cost Xilinx Spartan-3E field programmable gate array
(FPGA) device. Three PI-controllers are designed on FPGA to
control the system in the three-modes. Simulation of the system is
carried out using PSIM computer program. The simulation results
show stable operation for different loading conditions especially in
mode 2/3. The simulation results have been compared with the
experimental results from laboratory prototype.
Abstract: in this work, we present a new strategy of direct adaptive control denoted: Extended minimal controller synthesis (EMCS). This algorithm is designed for an induction motor, which includes both electrical and mechanical dynamics under the assumptions of linear magnetic circuits. The main motivation of the EMCS control is to enhance the robustness of the MRAC algorithms, i.e. the rejection of bounded effects of rapidly varying external disturbances.
Abstract: In this paper, a novel approach for robust trajectory tracking of induction motor drive is presented. By combining variable structure systems theory with fuzzy logic concept and neural network techniques, a new algorithm is developed. Fuzzy logic was used for the adaptation of the learning algorithm to improve the robustness of learning and operating of the neural network. The developed control algorithm is robust to parameter variations and external influences. It also assures precise trajectory tracking with the prescribed dynamics. The algorithm was verified by simulation and the results obtained demonstrate the effectiveness of the designed controller of induction motor drives which considered as highly non linear dynamic complex systems and variable characteristics over the operating conditions.
Abstract: This paper discusses the development of wireless
structure control of an induction motor scalar drives. This was
realised up on the wireless WiFi networks. This strategy of control is
ensured by the use of Wireless ad hoc networks and a virtual network
interface based on VNC which is used to make possible to take the
remote control of a PC connected on a wireless Ethernet network.
Verification of the proposed strategy of control is provided by
experimental realistic tests on scalar controlled induction motor
drives. The experimental results of the implementations with their
analysis are detailed.
Abstract: In contrast to conventional generators, self-excited induction generators are found to be most suitable machines for wind energy conversion in remote and windy areas due to many advantages over grid connected machines. This papers presents a Self-Excited Induction Generator (SEIG) driven by wind turbine and supplying an induction motor which is coupled to a centrifugal pump. A method to describe the steady state performance based on nodal analysis is presented. Therefore the advanced knowledge of the minimum excitation capacitor value is required. The effects of variation of excitation capacitance on system and rotor speed under different loading conditions have been analyzed and considered to optimize induction motor pump performances.
Abstract: The recent trend in field oriented control (FOC) is towards the use of sensorless techniques that avoid the use of speed sensor and flux sensor. Sensors are replaced by estimators or observers to minimise the cost and increase the reliability. In this paper an anlyse of perfomance of a MRAS used in sensorless control of induction motors and sensitvity to machine parameters change are studied.

Abstract: With the rapid advanced of technology, the industrial processes become increasingly demanding, from the point of view, power quality and controllability. The advent of multi levels inverters responds partially to these requirements. But actually, the new generation of multi-cells inverters permits to reach more performances, since, it offers more voltage levels. The disadvantage in the increase of voltage levels by the number of cells in cascades is on account of series igbts synchronisation loss, from where, a limitation of cells in cascade to 4. Regarding to these constraints, a new topology is proposed in this paper, which increases the voltage levels of the three-cell inverter from 4 to 8; with the same number of igbts, and using less stored energy in the flaying capacitors. The details of operation and modelling of this new inverter structure are also presented, then tested thanks to a three phase induction motor. Abstract: Linear induction motors are used in various industries
but they have some specific phenomena which are the causes for
some problems. The most important phenomenon is called end effect.
End effect decreases efficiency, power factor and output force and
unbalances the phase currents. This phenomenon is more important
in medium and high speeds machines. In this paper a factor, EEF , is
obtained by an accurate equivalent circuit model, to determine the
end effect intensity. In this way, all of effective design parameters on
end effect is described. Accuracy of this equivalent circuit model is
evaluated by two dimensional finite-element analysis using ANSYS.
The results show the accuracy of the equivalent circuit model.
Abstract: In this paper, a direct torque control - space vector
modulation (DTC-SVM) scheme is presented for a six-phase speed
and voltage sensorless induction motor (IM) drive. The decoupled
torque and stator flux control is achieved based on IM stator flux field orientation. The rotor speed is detected by on-line estimating of
the rotor angular slip speed and stator vector flux speed. In addition, a simple method is introduced to estimate the stator resistance.
Moreover in this control scheme the voltage sensors are eliminated
and actual motor phase voltages are approximated by using PWM
inverter switching times and the dc link voltage. Finally, some simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the
effectiveness and capability of the proposed control scheme.
