Abstract: A road pricing game is a game where various stakeholders and/or regions with different (and usually conflicting) objectives compete for toll setting in a given transportation network to satisfy their individual objectives. We investigate some classical game theoretical solution concepts for the road pricing game. We establish results for the road pricing game so that stakeholders and/or regions playing such a game will beforehand know what is obtainable. This will save time and argument, and above all, get rid of the feelings of unfairness among the competing actors and road users. Among the classical solution concepts we investigate is Nash equilibrium. In particular, we show that no pure Nash equilibrium exists among the actors, and further illustrate that even “mixed Nash equilibrium" may not be achievable in the road pricing game. The paper also demonstrates the type of coalitions that are not only reachable, but also stable and profitable for the actors involved.
Abstract: This paper tests the level of market integration between Malaysia and Singapore stock markets with the world market. Kalman Filter (KF) methodology is used on the International Capital Asset Pricing Model (ICAPM) and the pricing errors estimated within the framework of ICAPM are used as a measure of market integration or segmentation. The advantage of the KF technique is that it allows for time-varying coefficients in estimating ICAPM and hence able to capture the varying degree of market integration. Empirical results show clear evidence of varying degree of market integration for both case of Malaysia and Singapore. Furthermore, the results show that the changes in the level of market integration are found to coincide with certain economic events that have taken placed. The findings certainly provide evidence on the practicability of the KF technique to estimate stock markets integration. In the comparison between Malaysia and Singapore stock market, the result shows that the trends of the market integration indices for Malaysia and Singapore look similar through time but the magnitude is notably different with the Malaysia stock market showing greater degree of market integration. Finally, significant evidence of varying degree of market integration shows the inappropriate use of OLS in estimating the level of market integration.
Abstract: In this paper a nonlinear model is presented to
demonstrate the relation between production and marketing
departments. By introducing some functions such as pricing cost and
market share loss functions it will be tried to show some aspects of
market modelling which has not been regarded before. The proposed
model will be a constrained signomial geometric programming
model. For model solving, after variables- modifications an iterative
technique based on the concept of geometric mean will be introduced
to solve the resulting non-standard posynomial model which can be
applied to a wide variety of models in non-standard posynomial
geometric programming form. At the end a numerical analysis will
be presented to accredit the validity of the mentioned model.
Abstract: Underpricing is one anomaly in initial public offerings
(IPO) literature that has been widely observed across different stock
markets with different trends emerging over different time periods.
This study seeks to determine how IPOs on the JSE performed on the
first day, first week and first month over the period of 1996-2011.
Underpricing trends are documented for both hot and cold market
periods in terms of four main sectors (cyclical, defensive, growth
stock and interest rate sensitive stocks). Using a sample of 360 listed
companies on the JSE, the empirical findings established that IPOs
on the JSE are significantly underpriced with an average market
adjusted first day return of 62.9%. It is also established that hot
market IPOs on the JSE are more underpriced than the cold market
IPOs. Also observed is the fact that as the offer price per share
increases above the median price for any given period, the level of
underpricing decreases substantially. While significant differences
exist in the level of underpricing of IPOs in the four different sectors
in the hot and cold market periods, interest rates sensitive stocks
showed a different trend from the other sectors and thus require
further investigation to uncover this pattern.
Abstract: Due to the increasing and varying risks that economic units face with, derivative instruments gain substantial importance, and trading volumes of derivatives have reached very significant level. Parallel with these high trading volumes, researchers have developed many different models. Some are parametric, some are nonparametric. In this study, the aim is to analyse the success of artificial neural network in pricing of options with S&P 100 index options data. Generally, the previous studies cover the data of European type call options. This study includes not only European call option but also American call and put options and European put options. Three data sets are used to perform three different ANN models. One only includes data that are directly observed from the economic environment, i.e. strike price, spot price, interest rate, maturity, type of the contract. The others include an extra input that is not an observable data but a parameter, i.e. volatility. With these detail data, the performance of ANN in put/call dimension, American/European dimension, moneyness dimension is analyzed and whether the contribution of the volatility in neural network analysis make improvement in prediction performance or not is examined. The most striking results revealed by the study is that ANN shows better performance when pricing call options compared to put options; and the use of volatility parameter as an input does not improve the performance.
Abstract: In this paper, we apply the FM methodology to the
cross-section of Romanian-listed common stocks and investigate the
explanatory power of market beta on the cross-section of commons
stock returns from Bucharest Stock Exchange. Various assumptions
are empirically tested, such us linearity, market efficiency, the “no
systematic effect of non-beta risk" hypothesis or the positive
expected risk-return trade-off hypothesis. We find that the Romanian
stock market shows the same properties as the other emerging
markets in terms of efficiency and significance of the linear riskreturn
models. Our analysis included weekly returns from January
2002 until May 2010 and the portfolio formation, estimation and
testing was performed in a rolling manner using 51 observations (one
year) for each stage of the analysis.
Abstract: This paper argues that a product development exercise
involves in addition to the conventional stages, several decisions
regarding other aspects. These aspects should be addressed
simultaneously in order to develop a product that responds to the
customer needs and that helps realize objectives of the stakeholders
in terms of profitability, market share and the like. We present a
framework that encompasses these different development
dimensions. The framework shows that a product development
methodology such as the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is the
basic tool which allows definition of the target specifications of a
new product. Creativity is the first dimension that enables the
development exercise to live and end successfully. A number of
group processes need to be followed by the development team in
order to ensure enough creativity and innovation. Secondly,
packaging is considered to be an important extension of the product.
Branding strategies, quality and standardization requirements,
identification technologies, design technologies, production
technologies and costing and pricing are also integral parts to the
development exercise. These dimensions constitute the proposed
framework. The paper also presents a mathematical model used to
calculate the design targets based on the target costing principle. The
framework is used to study a case of a new product development in
the telecommunications services sector.
Abstract: Activity-Based Costing (ABC) represents an
alternative paradigm to traditional cost accounting system and
it often provides more accurate cost information for decision
making such as product pricing, product mix, and make-orbuy
decisions. ABC models the causal relationships between
products and the resources used in their production and traces
the cost of products according to the activities through the use
of appropriate cost drivers. In this paper, the implementation
of the ABC in a manufacturing system is analyzed and a
comparison with the traditional cost based system in terms of
the effects on the product costs are carried out to highlight the
difference between two costing methodologies. By using this
methodology, a valuable insight into the factors that cause the
cost is provided, helping to better manage the activities of the
company.
Abstract: This work proposes a novel market-based air traffic flow control model considering competitive airlines in air traffic network. In the flow model, an agent based framework for resources (link/time pair) pricing is described. Resource agent and auctioneer for groups of resources are also introduced to simulate the flow management in Air Traffic Control (ATC). Secondly, the distributed group pricing algorithm is introduced, which efficiently reflect the competitive nature of the airline industry. Resources in the system are grouped according to the degree of interaction, and each auctioneer adjust s the price of one group of resources respectively until the excess demand of resources becomes zero when the demand and supply of resources of the system changes. Numerical simulation results show the feasibility of solving the air traffic flow control problem using market mechanism and pricing algorithms on the air traffic network.
Abstract: In this paper a new approach for transmission pricing
is presented. The main idea is voltage angle allocation, i.e.
determining the contribution of each contract on the voltage angle of
each bus. DC power flow is used to compute a primary solution for
angle decomposition. To consider the impacts of system non-linearity
on angle decomposition, the primary solution is corrected in different
iterations of decoupled Newton-Raphson power flow. Then, the
contribution of each contract on power flow of each transmission line
is computed based on angle decomposition. Contract-related flows
are used as a measure for “extent of use" of transmission network
capacity and consequently transmission pricing. The presented
approach is applied to a 4-bus test system and IEEE 30-bus test
system.
Abstract: Unlike this study focused extensively on trading
behavior of option market, those researches were just taken their
attention to model-driven option pricing. For example, Black-Scholes
(B-S) model is one of the most famous option pricing models.
However, the arguments of B-S model are previously mentioned by
some pricing models reviewing. This paper following suggests the
importance of the dynamic character for option pricing, which is also
the reason why using the genetic algorithm (GA). Because of its
natural selection and species evolution, this study proposed a hybrid
model, the Genetic-BS model which combining GA and B-S to
estimate the price more accurate. As for the final experiments, the
result shows that the output estimated price with lower MAE value
than the calculated price by either B-S model or its enhanced one,
Gram-Charlier garch (G-C garch) model. Finally, this work would
conclude that the Genetic-BS pricing model is exactly practical.
Abstract: 20 years of dentistry was a period of transition from
communist to market economy but Romanian doctors have
insufficient management knowledge. Recently, the need for modern
management has increased due to technologies and superior materials
appearance, as patient-s demands.
Research goal is to increase efficiency by evaluating dental
medical office cost categories in real pricing procedures.
Empirical research is based on guided study that includes
information about the association between categories of cost
perception and therapeutic procedures commonly used in dental
offices.
Due to the obtained results to identify all the labours that make up
a settled procedure costs were determined for each procedure.
Financial evaluation software was created with the main functions:
introducing and maintaining patient records, treatment and
appointments made, procedures cost and monitoring office
productivity.
We believe that the study results can significantly improve the
financial management of dental offices, increasing the effectiveness
and quality of services.
Abstract: Cost contribution arrangements (CCAs) and Cost
sharing agreements (CCAs) belong to the tools of modern finance
management. Costs spend by associated enterprises on developing
producing or obtaining assets, services or rights (in general -
benefits) are used for tax optimizing too. The main purpose of joint
research and development, producing or obtaining benefits is to
lower these costs as much as possible or to maximize the benefits. In
this article is mentioned the problematic of transfer pricing and arm's
length principle with connection of CCAs, CSAs. Next, there is
mentioned how to settle participation shares of the total cost and
benefits contributions with respect to the OECD Transfer pricing for
MNEs Guidelines and with respect to other significant regulations.
Abstract: In this study, we explore the use of information for inventory decision in the healthcare organization (HO). We consider the scenario when the HO can make use of the information collected from some correlated products to enhance its inventory planning. Motivated by our real world observations that HOs adopt RFID and bar-coding system for information collection purpose, we examine the effectiveness of these systems for inventory planning with Bayesian information updating. We derive the optimal ordering decision and study the issue of Pareto improvement in the supply chain. Our analysis demonstrates that RFID system will outperform the bar-coding system when the RFID system installation cost and the tag cost reduce to a level that is comparable with that of the barcoding system. We also show how an appropriately set wholesale pricing contract can achieve Pareto improvement in the HO supply chain.
