Abstract: This paper presents findings from the evaluation study carried out to review the UAE national ID card software. The paper consults the relevant literature to explain many of the concepts and frameworks explained herein. The findings of the evaluation work that was primarily based on the ISO 9126 standard for system quality measurement highlighted many practical areas that if taken into account is argued to more likely increase the success chances of similar system implementation projects.
Abstract: The impact of OO design on software quality
characteristics such as defect density and rework by mean of
experimental validation. Encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism,
reusability, Data hiding and message-passing are the major attribute
of an Object Oriented system. In order to evaluate the quality of an
Object oriented system the above said attributes can act as indicators.
The metrics are the well known quantifiable approach to express any
attribute. Hence, in this paper we tried to formulate a framework of
metrics representing the attributes of object oriented system.
Empirical Data is collected from three different projects based on
object oriented paradigms to calculate the metrics.
Abstract: System testing is actually done to the entire system
against the Functional Requirement Specification and/or the System
Requirement Specification. Moreover, it is an investigatory testing
phase, where the focus is to have almost a destructive attitude and
test not only the design, but also the behavior and even the believed
expectations of the customer. It is also intended to test up to and
beyond the bounds defined in the software/hardware requirements
specifications. In Motorola®, Automated Testing is one of the testing
methodologies uses by GSG-iSGT (Global Software Group - iDEN
TM
Subcriber Group-Test) to increase the testing volume, productivity
and reduce test cycle-time in iDEN
TM
phones testing. Testing is able
to produce more robust products before release to the market. In this
paper, iHopper is proposed as a tool to perform stress test on iDEN
TM
phonse. We will discuss the value that automation has brought to
iDEN
TM
Phone testing such as improving software quality in the
iDEN
TM
phone together with some metrics. We will also look into
the advantages of the proposed system and some discussion of the
future work as well.
Abstract: Effective evaluation of software development effort is an important issue during project plan. This study provides a model to predict development effort based on the software size estimated with function points. We generalize the average amount of effort spent on each phase of the development, and give the estimates for the effort used in software building, testing, and implementation. Finally, this paper finds a strong correlation between software defects and software size. As the size of software constantly increases, the quality remains to be a matter which requires major concern.
Abstract: Class cohesion is an important object-oriented
software quality attribute. It indicates how much the members in a
class are related. Assessing the class cohesion and improving the
class quality accordingly during the object-oriented design phase
allows for cheaper management of the later phases. In this paper, the
notion of distance between pairs of methods and pairs of attribute
types in a class is introduced and used as a basis for introducing a
novel class cohesion metric. The metric considers the methodmethod,
attribute-attribute, and attribute-method direct interactions.
It is shown that the metric gives more sensitive values than other
well-known design-based class cohesion metrics.
Abstract: The users are now expecting higher level of
DSP(Digital Signal Processing) software quality than ever before.
Prevention and detection of defect are critical elements of software
quality assurance. In this paper, principles and rules for prevention and
detection of defect are suggested, which are not universal guidelines,
but are useful for both novice and experienced DSP software
developers.
Abstract: The aim of every software product is to achieve an
appropriate level of software quality. Developers and designers are
trying to produce readable, reliable, maintainable, reusable and
testable code. To help achieve these goals, several approaches have
been utilized. In this paper, refactoring technique was used to
evaluate software quality with a quality index. It is composed of
different metric sets which describes various quality aspects.
Abstract: Although achieving zero-defect software release is
practically impossible, software industries should take maximum
care to detect defects/bugs well ahead in time allowing only bare
minimums to creep into released version. This is a clear indicator of
time playing an important role in the bug detection. In addition to
this, software quality is the major factor in software engineering
process. Moreover, early detection can be achieved only through
static code analysis as opposed to conventional testing.
BugCatcher.Net is a static analysis tool, which detects bugs in .NET®
languages through MSIL (Microsoft Intermediate Language)
inspection. The tool utilizes a Parser based on Finite State Automata
to carry out bug detection. After being detected, bugs need to be
corrected immediately. BugCatcher.Net facilitates correction, by
proposing a corrective solution for reported warnings/bugs to end
users with minimum side effects. Moreover, the tool is also capable
of analyzing the bug trend of a program under inspection.
Abstract: Importance of software quality is increasing leading to development of new sophisticated techniques, which can be used in constructing models for predicting quality attributes. One such technique is Artificial Neural Network (ANN). This paper examined the application of ANN for software quality prediction using Object- Oriented (OO) metrics. Quality estimation includes estimating maintainability of software. The dependent variable in our study was maintenance effort. The independent variables were principal components of eight OO metrics. The results showed that the Mean Absolute Relative Error (MARE) was 0.265 of ANN model. Thus we found that ANN method was useful in constructing software quality model.
Abstract: This paper introduces a process for the module level integration of computer based systems. It is based on the Six Sigma Process Improvement Model, where the goal of the process is to improve the overall quality of the system under development. We also present a conceptual framework that shows how this process can be implemented as an integration solution. Finally, we provide a partial implementation of key components in the conceptual framework.
Abstract: The prediction of Software quality during development life cycle of software project helps the development organization to make efficient use of available resource to produce the product of highest quality. “Whether a module is faulty or not" approach can be used to predict quality of a software module. There are numbers of software quality prediction models described in the literature based upon genetic algorithms, artificial neural network and other data mining algorithms. One of the promising aspects for quality prediction is based on clustering techniques. Most quality prediction models that are based on clustering techniques make use of K-means, Mixture-of-Guassians, Self-Organizing Map, Neural Gas and fuzzy K-means algorithm for prediction. In all these techniques a predefined structure is required that is number of neurons or clusters should be known before we start clustering process. But in case of Growing Neural Gas there is no need of predetermining the quantity of neurons and the topology of the structure to be used and it starts with a minimal neurons structure that is incremented during training until it reaches a maximum number user defined limits for clusters. Hence, in this work we have used Growing Neural Gas as underlying cluster algorithm that produces the initial set of labeled cluster from training data set and thereafter this set of clusters is used to predict the quality of test data set of software modules. The best testing results shows 80% accuracy in evaluating the quality of software modules. Hence, the proposed technique can be used by programmers in evaluating the quality of modules during software development.
