Abstract: Optimization of filter banks based on the knowledge of input statistics has been of interest for a long time. Finite impulse response (FIR) Compaction filters are used in the design of optimal signal adapted orthonormal FIR filter banks. In this paper we discuss three different approaches for the design of interpolated finite impulse response (IFIR) compaction filters. In the first method, the magnitude squared response satisfies Nyquist constraint approximately. In the second and third methods Nyquist constraint is exactly satisfied. These methods yield FIR compaction filters whose response is comparable with that of the existing methods. At the same time, IFIR filters enjoy significant saving in the number of multipliers and can be implemented efficiently. Since eigenfilter approach is used here, the method is less complex. Design of IFIR filters in the least square sense is presented.
Abstract: In this research, we propose to use the discrete cosine
transform to approximate the cumulative distributions of data cube
cells- values. The cosine transform is known to have a good energy
compaction property and thus can approximate data distribution
functions easily with small number of coefficients. The derived
estimator is accurate and easy to update. We perform experiments to
compare its performance with a well-known technique - the (Haar)
wavelet. The experimental results show that the cosine transform
performs much better than the wavelet in estimation accuracy, speed,
space efficiency, and update easiness.
Abstract: Background noise is particularly damaging to speech
intelligibility for people with hearing loss especially for sensorineural
loss patients. Several investigations on speech intelligibility have
demonstrated sensorineural loss patients need 5-15 dB higher SNR
than the normal hearing subjects. This paper describes Discrete
Cosine Transform Power Normalized Least Mean Square algorithm
to improve the SNR and to reduce the convergence rate of the LMS
for Sensory neural loss patients. Since it requires only real arithmetic,
it establishes the faster convergence rate as compare to time domain
LMS and also this transformation improves the eigenvalue
distribution of the input autocorrelation matrix of the LMS filter.
The DCT has good ortho-normal, separable, and energy compaction
property. Although the DCT does not separate frequencies, it is a
powerful signal decorrelator. It is a real valued function and thus
can be effectively used in real-time operation. The advantages of
DCT-LMS as compared to standard LMS algorithm are shown via
SNR and eigenvalue ratio computations. . Exploiting the symmetry
of the basis functions, the DCT transform matrix [AN] can be
factored into a series of ±1 butterflies and rotation angles. This
factorization results in one of the fastest DCT implementation. There
are different ways to obtain factorizations. This work uses the fast
factored DCT algorithm developed by Chen and company. The
computer simulations results show superior convergence
characteristics of the proposed algorithm by improving the SNR at
least 10 dB for input SNR less than and equal to 0 dB, faster
convergence speed and better time and frequency characteristics.
Abstract: Recurrence of aneurysm rupture can be attributed to
coil migration and compaction. In order to verify the effects of
hemodynamics on coil compaction and migration, we analyze the
forces and displacements on the coil bundle using a computational
method. Lateral aneurysms partially filled coils are modeled, and
blood flow fields and coil deformations are simulated considering
fluid and solid interaction. Effects of aneurysm neck size and parent
vessel geometry are also investigated. The results showed that coil
deformation was larger in the aneurysms with a wider neck. Parent
vessel geometry and aneurysm neck size also affected mean pressure
force profiles on the coil surface. Pressure forces were higher in wide
neck models with curved parent vessel geometry. Simulation results
showed that coils in the wide neck aneurysm with a curved parent
vessel may be displaced and compacted more easily.
