Abstract: In a nuclear reactor Loss of Coolant accident (LOCA)
considers wide range of postulated damage or rupture of pipe in the
heat transport piping system. In the case of LOCA with/without
failure of emergency core cooling system in a Pressurised Heavy
water Reactor, the Pressure Tube (PT) temperature could rise
significantly due to fuel heat up and gross mismatch of the heat
generation and heat removal in the affected channel. The extent and
nature of deformation is important from reactor safety point of view.
Experimental set-ups have been designed and fabricated to simulate
ballooning (radial deformation) of PT for 220 MWe IPHWRs.
Experiments have been conducted by covering the CT by ceramic
fibers and then by submerging CT in water of voided PTs. In both
the experiments, it is observed that ballooning initiates at a
temperature around 665´┐¢C and complete contact between PT and
Caldaria Tube (CT) occurs at around 700´┐¢C approximately. The
strain rate is found to be 0.116% per second. The structural integrity
of PT is retained (no breach) for all the experiments. The PT heatup
is found to be arrested after the contact between PT and CT, thus
establishing moderator acting as an efficient heat sink for IPHWRs.
Abstract: To investigate the correspondence of theory and
practice, a successfully implemented Knowledge Management
System (KMS) is explored through the lens of Alavi and Leidner-s
proposed KMS framework for the analysis of an information system
in knowledge management (Framework-AISKM). The applied KMS
system was designed to manage curricular knowledge in a distributed
university environment. The motivation for the KMS is discussed
along with the types of knowledge necessary in an academic setting.
Elements of the KMS involved in all phases of capturing and
disseminating knowledge are described. As the KMS matures the
resulting data stores form the precursor to and the potential for
knowledge mining. The findings from this exploratory study indicate
substantial correspondence between the successful KMS and the
theory-based framework providing provisional confirmation for the
framework while suggesting factors that contributed to the system-s
success. Avenues for future work are described.
Abstract: General requirements for knowledge representation in
the form of logic rules, applicable to design and control of industrial
processes, are formulated. Characteristic behavior of decision trees
(DTs) and rough sets theory (RST) in rules extraction from recorded
data is discussed and illustrated with simple examples. The
significance of the models- drawbacks was evaluated, using
simulated and industrial data sets. It is concluded that performance of
DTs may be considerably poorer in several important aspects,
compared to RST, particularly when not only a characterization of a
problem is required, but also detailed and precise rules are needed,
according to actual, specific problems to be solved.
Abstract: In its attempt to offer new ways into autonomy for a
large population of disabled people, assistive technology has largely
been inspired by robotics engineering. Recent human-like robots
carry new hopes that it seems to us necessary to analyze by means of
a specific theory of anthropomorphism. We propose to distinguish a
functional anthropomorphism which is the one of actual wheelchairs
from a structural anthropomorphism based on a mimicking of human
physiological systems. If functional anthropomorphism offers the
main advantage of eliminating the physiological systems
interdependence issue, the highly link between the robot for disabled
people and their human-built environment would lead to privilege in
the future the anthropomorphic structural way. In this future
framework, we highlight a general interdependence principle : any
partial or local structural anthropomorphism generates new
anthropomorphic needs due to the physiological systems
interdependency, whose effects can be evaluated by means of
specific anthropomorphic criterions derived from a set theory-based
approach of physiological systems.
Abstract: In this paper, we present a new algorithm for clustering data in large datasets using image processing approaches. First the dataset is mapped into a binary image plane. The synthesized image is then processed utilizing efficient image processing techniques to cluster the data in the dataset. Henceforth, the algorithm avoids exhaustive search to identify clusters. The algorithm considers only a small set of the data that contains critical boundary information sufficient to identify contained clusters. Compared to available data clustering techniques, the proposed algorithm produces similar quality results and outperforms them in execution time and storage requirements.
Abstract: The one-class support vector machine “support vector
data description” (SVDD) is an ideal approach for anomaly or outlier
detection. However, for the applicability of SVDD in real-world
applications, the ease of use is crucial. The results of SVDD are
massively determined by the choice of the regularisation parameter C
and the kernel parameter of the widely used RBF kernel. While for
two-class SVMs the parameters can be tuned using cross-validation
based on the confusion matrix, for a one-class SVM this is not
possible, because only true positives and false negatives can occur
during training. This paper proposes an approach to find the optimal
set of parameters for SVDD solely based on a training set from
one class and without any user parameterisation. Results on artificial
and real data sets are presented, underpinning the usefulness of the
approach.
Abstract: Recently, X. Ge and J. Qian investigated some relations between higher mathematics scores and calculus scores (resp. linear algebra scores, probability statistics scores) for Chinese university students. Based on rough-set theory, they established an information system S = (U,CuD,V, f). In this information system, higher mathematics score was taken as a decision attribute and calculus score, linear algebra score, probability statistics score were taken as condition attributes. They investigated importance of each condition attribute with respective to decision attribute and strength of each condition attribute supporting decision attribute. In this paper, we give further investigations for this issue. Based on the above information system S = (U, CU D, V, f), we analyze the decision rules between condition and decision granules. For each x E U, we obtain support (resp. strength, certainty factor, coverage factor) of the decision rule C —>x D, where C —>x D is the decision rule induced by x in S = (U, CU D, V, f). Results of this paper gives new analysis of on higher mathematics scores for Chinese university students, which can further lead Chinese university students to raise higher mathematics scores in Chinese graduate student entrance examination.
Abstract: Much research into handwritten Thai character
recognition have been proposed, such as comparing heads of
characters, Fuzzy logic and structure trees, etc. This paper presents a
system of handwritten Thai character recognition, which is based on
the Ant-minor algorithm (data mining based on Ant colony
optimization). Zoning is initially used to determine each character.
Then three distinct features (also called attributes) of each character
in each zone are extracted. The attributes are Head zone, End point,
and Feature code. All attributes are used for construct the
classification rules by an Ant-miner algorithm in order to classify
112 Thai characters. For this experiment, the Ant-miner algorithm is
adapted, with a small change to increase the recognition rate. The
result of this experiment is a 97% recognition rate of the training set
(11200 characters) and 82.7% recognition rate of unseen data test
(22400 characters).
Abstract: An end-member selection method for spectral unmixing that is based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is developed in this paper. The algorithm uses the K-means clustering algorithm and a method of dynamic selection of end-members subsets to find the appropriate set of end-members for a given set of multispectral images. The proposed algorithm has been successfully applied to test image sets from various platforms such as LANDSAT 5 MSS and NOAA's AVHRR. The experimental results of the proposed algorithm are encouraging. The influence of different values of the algorithm control parameters on performance is studied. Furthermore, the performance of different versions of PSO is also investigated.
Abstract: In the automotive industry test drives are being conducted
during the development of new vehicle models or as a part of
quality assurance of series-production vehicles. The communication
on the in-vehicle network, data from external sensors, or internal
data from the electronic control units is recorded by automotive
data loggers during the test drives. The recordings are used for fault
analysis. Since the resulting data volume is tremendous, manually
analysing each recording in great detail is not feasible.
This paper proposes to use machine learning to support domainexperts
by preventing them from contemplating irrelevant data and
rather pointing them to the relevant parts in the recordings. The
underlying idea is to learn the normal behaviour from available
recordings, i.e. a training set, and then to autonomously detect
unexpected deviations and report them as anomalies.
The one-class support vector machine “support vector data description”
is utilised to calculate distances of feature vectors. SVDDSUBSEQ
is proposed as a novel approach, allowing to classify subsequences
in multivariate time series data. The approach allows to
detect unexpected faults without modelling effort as is shown with
experimental results on recordings from test drives.
Abstract: With the advent of inexpensive 32 bit floating point digital signal processor-s availability in market, many computationally intensive algorithms such as Kalman filter becomes feasible to implement in real time. Dynamic simulation of a self excited DC motor using second order state variable model and implementation of Kalman Filter in a floating point DSP TMS320C6713 is presented in this paper with an objective to introduce and implement such an algorithm, for beginners. A fractional hp DC motor is simulated in both Matlab® and DSP and the results are included. A step by step approach for simulation of DC motor in Matlab® and “C" routines in CC Studio® is also given. CC studio® project file details and environmental setting requirements are addressed. This tutorial can be used with 6713 DSK, which is based on floating point DSP and CC Studio either in hardware mode or in simulation mode.
Abstract: Nevertheless the widespread application of finite
mixture models in segmentation, finite mixture model selection is
still an important issue. In fact, the selection of an adequate number
of segments is a key issue in deriving latent segments structures and
it is desirable that the selection criteria used for this end are effective.
In order to select among several information criteria, which may
support the selection of the correct number of segments we conduct a
simulation study. In particular, this study is intended to determine
which information criteria are more appropriate for mixture model
selection when considering data sets with only categorical
segmentation base variables. The generation of mixtures of
multinomial data supports the proposed analysis. As a result, we
establish a relationship between the level of measurement of
segmentation variables and some (eleven) information criteria-s
performance. The criterion AIC3 shows better performance (it
indicates the correct number of the simulated segments- structure
more often) when referring to mixtures of multinomial segmentation
base variables.
Abstract: This paper present the harmonic elimination of hybrid
multilevel inverters (HMI) which could be increase the number of
output voltage level. Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is one of the
most important requirements concerning performance indices.
Because of many numbers output levels of HMI, it had numerous
unknown variables of eliminate undesired individual harmonic and
THD nonlinear equations set. Optimized harmonic stepped waveform
(OHSW) is solving switching angles conventional method, but most
complicated for solving as added level. The artificial intelligent
techniques are deliberation to solve this problem. This paper presents
the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique for solving
switching angles to get minimum THD and eliminate undesired
individual harmonics of 15-levels hybrid multilevel inverters.
Consequently it had many variables and could eliminate numerous
harmonics. Both advantages including high level of inverter and
Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) are used as powerful tools for
harmonics elimination.
Abstract: Knowledge development in companies relies on
knowledge-intensive business processes, which are characterized by
a high complexity in their execution, weak structuring,
communication-oriented tasks and high decision autonomy, and often the need for creativity and innovation. A foundation of knowledge development is provided, which is based on a new conception of
knowledge and knowledge dynamics. This conception consists of a three-dimensional model of knowledge with types, kinds and qualities. Built on this knowledge conception, knowledge dynamics is
modeled with the help of general knowledge conversions between
knowledge assets. Here knowledge dynamics is understood to cover
all of acquisition, conversion, transfer, development and usage of
knowledge. Through this conception we gain a sound basis for
knowledge management and development in an enterprise. Especially
the type dimension of knowledge, which categorizes it according to
its internality and externality with respect to the human being, is crucial for enterprise knowledge management and development,
because knowledge should be made available by converting it to
more external types.
Built on this conception, a modeling approach for knowledgeintensive
business processes is introduced, be it human-driven,e-driven or task-driven processes. As an example for this approach, a model of the creative activity for the renewal planning of
a product is given.
Abstract: Let (U;D) be a Gr-covering approximation space
(U; C) with covering lower approximation operator D and covering
upper approximation operator D. For a subset X of U, this paper
investigates the following three conditions: (1) X is a definable subset
of (U;D); (2) X is an inner definable subset of (U;D); (3) X is an
outer definable subset of (U;D). It is proved that if one of the above
three conditions holds, then the others hold. These results give a
positive answer of an open problem for definable subsets of covering
approximation spaces.
Abstract: Concrete strength evaluated from compression tests
on cores is affected by several factors causing differences from the
in-situ strength at the location from which the core specimen was
extracted. Among the factors, there is the damage possibly occurring
during the drilling phase that generally leads to underestimate the
actual in-situ strength. In order to quantify this effect, in this study
two wide datasets have been examined, including: (i) about 500 core
specimens extracted from Reinforced Concrete existing structures,
and (ii) about 600 cube specimens taken during the construction of
new structures in the framework of routine acceptance control. The
two experimental datasets have been compared in terms of
compression strength and specific weight values, accounting for the
main factors affecting a concrete property, that is type and amount of
cement, aggregates' grading, type and maximum size of aggregates,
water/cement ratio, placing and curing modality, concrete age. The
results show that the magnitude of the strength reduction due to
drilling damage is strongly affected by the actual properties of
concrete, being inversely proportional to its strength. Therefore, the
application of a single value of the correction coefficient, as generally
suggested in the technical literature and in structural codes, appears
inappropriate. A set of values of the drilling damage coefficient is
suggested as a function of the strength obtained from compressive
tests on cores.
Abstract: This paper analytically investigates the 3D flow
pattern at the confluences of two rectangular channels having 900
angles using Navier-Stokes equations based on Reynolds Stress
Turbulence Model (RSM). The equations are solved by the Finite-
Volume Method (FVM) and the flow is analyzed in terms of steadystate
(single-phased) conditions. The Shumate experimental findings
were used to test the validity of data. Comparison of the simulation
model with the experimental ones indicated a close proximity
between the flow patterns of the two sets. Effects of the discharge
ratio on separation zone dimensions created in the main-channel
downstream of the confluence indicated an inverse relation, where a
decrease in discharge ratio, will entail an increase in the length and
width of the separation zone. The study also found the model as a
powerful analytical tool in the feasibility study of hydraulic
engineering projects.
Abstract: The performance and complexity of QoS routing depends on the complex interaction between a large set of parameters. This paper investigated the scaling properties of source-directed link-state routing in large core networks. The simulation results show that the routing algorithm, network topology, and link cost function each have a significant impact on the probability of successfully routing new connections. The experiments confirm and extend the findings of other studies, and also lend new insight designing efficient quality-of-service routing policies in large networks.
Abstract: This paper presents an intrusion detection system of hybrid neural network model based on RBF and Elman. It is used for anomaly detection and misuse detection. This model has the memory function .It can detect discrete and related aggressive behavior effectively. RBF network is a real-time pattern classifier, and Elman network achieves the memory ability for former event. Based on the hybrid model intrusion detection system uses DARPA data set to do test evaluation. It uses ROC curve to display the test result intuitively. After the experiment it proves this hybrid model intrusion detection system can effectively improve the detection rate, and reduce the rate of false alarm and fail.
Abstract: Transient shape variation of a rotating liquid dropletis
simulated numerically. The three dimensional Navier-Stokes
equations were solved by using the level set method. The shape
variation from the sphere to the rotating ellipsoid, and to the two-robed
shapeare simulated, and the elongation of the two-robed droplet is
discussed. The two-robed shape after the initial transient is found to be
stable and the elongation is almost the same for the cases with different
initial rotation rate. The relationship between the elongation and the
rotation rate is obtained by averaging the transient shape variation. It is
shown that the elongation of two-robed shape is in good agreement
with the existing experimental data. It is found that the transient
numerical simulation is necessary for analyzing the largely elongated
two-robed shape of rotating droplet.
