Abstract: Nanofluids are novel fluids that are going to have an
important role in future industrial thermal device designs. Studies are
being predominantly conducted on the mechanism of these heat
transfers. The key to this attraction is in the increase in thermal
conductivity brought about by the Nanofluids compared with the
base fluid. Different models have been proposed for calculation of
effective thermal conduction that has been gradually modified. In this
investigation effect of nanolayer structure and Brownian motion of
particles are studied and a new modified thermal conductivity model
is proposed. Temperature, concentration, nanolayer thickness and
particle size are taken as variables and their effect are studied
simultaneously on the thermal conductivity of the fluids, showing the
concentration of the nanoparticles to affect the nanolayer thickness
which also affects the Brownian motion.
Abstract: The most influential programming paradigm today
is object oriented (OO) programming and it is widely used in
education and industry. Recognizing the importance of equipping
students with OO knowledge and skills, it is not surprising that most
Computer Science degree programs offer OO-related courses. How
do we assess whether the students have acquired the right objectoriented
skills after they have completed their OO courses? What are
object oriented skills? Currently none of the current assessment
techniques would be able to provide this answer. Traditional forms of
OO programming assessment provide a ways for assigning numerical
scores to determine letter grades. But this rarely reveals information
about how students actually understand OO concept. It appears
reasonable that a better understanding of how to define and assess
OO skills is needed by developing a criterion referenced model. It is
even critical in the context of Malaysia where there is currently a
growing concern over the level of competency of Malaysian IT
graduates in object oriented programming. This paper discussed the
approach used to develop the criterion-referenced assessment model.
The model can serve as a guideline when conducting OO
programming assessment as mentioned. The proposed model is
derived by using Goal Questions Metrics methodology, which helps
formulate the metrics of interest. It concluded with a few suggestions
for further study.
Abstract: An effort to develop a unit commitment approach
capable of handling large power systems consisting of both thermal
and hydro generating units offers a large profitable return. In order to
be feasible, the method to be developed must be flexible, efficient
and reliable. In this paper, various proposed methods have been
described along with their strengths and weaknesses. As all of these
methods have some sort of weaknesses, a comprehensive algorithm
that combines the strengths of different methods and overcomes each
other-s weaknesses would be a suitable approach for solving
industry-grade unit commitment problem.
Abstract: The paper examines the Most public relations spots
and advertisements dealing with drugs. For this reason, public service
advertisements show Americans in activities with drugs and alcohol.
The way that the advertisements are produced, viewers from the
Middle East say these ads are not for them. They recognize the ads as
strictly for Americans trying to overcome their problems with drugs
and alcohol. Also, this paper explores the development of the
advertisements which are ineffective in other cultures like the Islamic
because the limited scope of the message does not have a major
effect on the Islamic beliefs and practices.
Abstract: An effort to find out the smaller size of cuttings for propagation of Morus alba was made in experimental area Department of Forestry, Range Management and Wildlife, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan. Different size of cuttings i.e. 2", 4", 6" and 8" were planted in polythene tubes of 3.5"x7". The effort was also made to compare the performance of cuttings in open air and in polythene low tunnel. Root length, number of root branches, root diameter and root fresh and dry weight were found maximum in two inches cuttings while minimum in four inches cuttings. Root growth was found maximum in open air as compared to under polythene sheet.
Abstract: The antioxidant compounds are needed for the food, beverages, and pharmaceuticals industry. For this purpose, an appropriate method is required to measure the antioxidant properties in various types of samples. Spectrophotometric method usually used has some weaknesses, including the high price, long sample preparation time, and less sensitivity. Among the alternative methods developed to overcome these weaknesses is antioxidant biosensor based on superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzyme. Therefore, this study was carried out to measure the SOD activity originating from Deinococcus radiodurans and to determine its kinetics properties. Carbon paste electrode modified with ferrocene and immobilized SOD exhibited anode and cathode current peak at potential of +400 and +300mv respectively, in both pure SOD and SOD of D. radiodurans. This indicated that the current generated was from superoxide catalytic dismutation reaction by SOD. Optimum conditions for SOD activity was at pH 9 and temperature of 27.50C for D. radiodurans SOD, and pH 11 and temperature of 200C for pure SOD. Dismutation reaction kinetics of superoxide catalyzed by SOD followed the Lineweaver-Burk kinetics with D. radiodurans SOD KMapp value was smaller than pure SOD. The result showed that D. radiodurans SOD had higher enzyme-substrate affinity and specificity than pure SOD. It concluded that D. radiodurans SOD had a great potential as biological recognition component for antioxidant biosensor.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose the variational approach to solve single image defogging problem. In the inference process of the atmospheric veil, we defined new functional for atmospheric veil that satisfy edge-preserving regularization property. By using the fundamental lemma of calculus of variations, we derive the Euler-Lagrange equation foratmospheric veil that can find the maxima of a given functional. This equation can be solved by using a gradient decent method and time parameter. Then, we can have obtained the estimated atmospheric veil, and then have conducted the image restoration by using inferred atmospheric veil. Finally we have improved the contrast of restoration image by various histogram equalization methods. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves rather good defogging results.
Abstract: Due to dynamic evolution, the ability of a
manufacturing technology to produce a special product is changing.
Therefore, it is essential to monitor the established techniques and
processes to detect whether a company-s production will fit future
circumstances. Concerning the manufacturing technology planning
process, companies must decide when to change to a new technology
for maintaining and increasing competitive advantages. In this
context, the maturity assessment of the focused technologies is
crucial. This article presents an approach for defining the maturity of
a manufacturing technology from a strategic point of view. The
concept is based on the approach of technology readiness level
(TRL) according to NASA (National Aeronautics and Space
Administration), but also includes dynamic changes. Therefore, the
model takes into account the concept of the technology life cycle.
Furthermore, it enables a company to estimate the ideal date for
implementation of a new manufacturing technology.
Abstract: This study investigated the effect of oxygen and
micro-cracking on the flotation of low grade nickel sulphide ore. The
ore treated contained serpentine minerals which have a history of
being difficult to process efficiently. The use of oxygen as a bubbling
gas has been noted to be effective because it increases the pulp
potential. The desired effect of micro cracking the ore is that the
nickel sulphide minerals will become activated and this activation
will render these minerals more susceptible to react with potassium
amyl xanthate collectors, resulting in a higher recovery of nickel and
hinder the recovery of other undesired minerals contained in the ore.
Higher nickel recoveries were obtained when pure oxygen was used
as a bubbling gas rather than the conventional air. Microwave
cracking favored the recovery of nickel.
Abstract: Axial Flux Permanent Magnet (AFPM) Machines require effective cooling due to their high power density. The detrimental effects of overheating such as degradation of the insulation materials, magnets demagnetization, and increase of Joule losses are well known. This paper describes the CFD simulations performed on a test rig model of an air cooled Axial Flux Permanent Magnet (AFPM) generator built at Durham University to identify the temperatures and heat transfer coefficient on the stator. The Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes and the Energy equations are solved and the flow pattern and heat transfer developing inside the machine are described. The Nusselt number on the stator surfaces has been found. The dependency of the heat transfer on the flow field is described temperature field obtained. Tests on an experimental are undergoing in order to validate the CFD results.
Abstract: The supported Pd catalysts were analyzed by X-ray
diffraction and X-ray absorption spectroscopy in order to determine
their global and local structure. The average particle size of the
supported Pd catalysts was determined by X-ray diffraction method.
One of the main purposes of the present contribution is to focus on
understanding the specific role of the Pd particle size determined by
X-ray diffraction and that of the support oxide. Based on X-ray
absorption fine structure spectroscopy analysis we consider that the
whole local structure of the investigated samples are distorted
concerning the atomic number but the distances between atoms are
almost the same as for standard Pd sample. Due to the strong
modifications of the Pd cluster local structure, the metal-support
interface may influence the electronic properties of metal clusters
and thus their reactivity for absorption of the reactant molecules.
Abstract: In the process of polyethylene extrusion polymer
material similar to powder or granule is under compression, melting
and transmission operation and on base of special form, extrudate has
been produced. Twin-screw extruders are applicable in industries
because of their high capacity. The powder mixing with chemical
additives and melting with thermal and mechanical energy in three
zones (feed, compression and metering zone) and because of gear
pump and screw's pressure, converting to final product in latest plate.
Extruders with twin-screw and short distance between screws are
better than other types because of their high capacity and good
thermal and mechanical stress.
In this paper, process of polyethylene extrusion and various tapes
of extruders are studied. It is necessary to have an exact control on
process to producing high quality products with safe operation and
optimum energy consumption.

Abstract: In the present work, we propose a new method for
solving the matrix equation AXB=F . The new method can
be considered as a generalized form of the well-known global full
orthogonalization method (Gl-FOM) for solving multiple linear
systems. Hence, the method will be called extended Gl-FOM (EGl-
FOM). For implementing EGl-FOM, generalized forms of block
Krylov subspace and global Arnoldi process are presented. Finally,
some numerical experiments are given to illustrate the efficiency of
our new method.
Abstract: The Minimum Weighted Vertex Cover (MWVC) problem is a classic graph optimization NP - complete problem. Given an undirected graph G = (V, E) and weighting function defined on the vertex set, the minimum weighted vertex cover problem is to find a vertex set S V whose total weight is minimum subject to every edge of G has at least one end point in S. In this paper an effective algorithm, called Support Ratio Algorithm (SRA), is designed to find the minimum weighted vertex cover of a graph. Computational experiments are designed and conducted to study the performance of our proposed algorithm. Extensive simulation results show that the SRA can yield better solutions than other existing algorithms found in the literature for solving the minimum vertex cover problem.
Abstract: In today-s modern world, the number of vehicles is
increasing on the road. This causes more people to choose walking
instead of traveling using vehicles. Thus, proper planning of
pedestrians- paths is important to ensure the safety of pedestrians in a
walking area. Crowd dynamics study the pedestrians- behavior and
modeling pedestrians- movement to ensure safety in their walking paths.
To date, many models have been designed to ease pedestrians-
movement. The Social Force Model is widely used among researchers
as it is simpler and provides better simulation results. We will discuss
the problem regarding the ritual of circumambulating the Ka-aba
(Tawaf) where the entrances to this area are usually congested which
worsens during the Hajj season. We will use the computer simulation
model SimWalk which is based on the Social Force Model to simulate
the movement of pilgrims in the Tawaf area. We will first discuss the
effect of uni and bi-directional flows at the gates. We will then restrict
certain gates to the area as the entrances only and others as exits only.
From the simulations, we will study the effect of the distance of other
entrances from the beginning line and their effects on the duration of
pilgrims circumambulate Ka-aba. We will distribute the pilgrims at the
different entrances evenly so that the congestion at the entrances can be
reduced. We would also discuss the various locations and designs of
barriers at the exits and its effect on the time taken for the pilgrims to
exit the Tawaf area.
Abstract: State tax revenues in most countries started to decrease during the recession. Government of Latvia decided to compensate the decline by increasing rates of several taxes including excise tax on strong alcohol. The total increase in 2009 constituted 42% and the rate increased from 896€ to 1 266€ for 100l of absolute alcohol. Since then this has had a negative impact on consumption volumes and the split between legal and illegal market. The legal alcohol sales decreased by almost 50% (by volume), consequentially having negative effect on the State revenues from VAT and excise tax. Estimated results for 2010 are indicating 54 million € decrease in VAT, excise tax and other taxes versus 2008 (excise tax -19 million €, VAT -30 million €, other taxes -5 million €). The paper aims to analyze impact of the increase in excise tax on consumption patterns, State revenues and competitiveness of the local companies to draw up proposals for the state authorities regarding more effective tax policies. The analysis reveals a relationship between excise tax rate, illegal alcohol market and State revenues. The results can be used to improve excise tax system and effectiveness in Latvia.
Abstract: This paper presents and discusses the numerical simulations of transient laminar natural convection cooling of high Prandtl number fluids in cubical cavities, in which the six walls of the cavity are subjected to a step change in temperature. The effect of the fluid Prandtl number on the heat transfer coefficient is studied for three different fluids (Golden Syrup, Glycerin and Glycerin-water solution 50%). The simulations are performed at two different Rayleigh numbers (5·106 and 5·107) and six different Prandtl numbers (3 · 105 ≥Pr≥ 50). Heat conduction through the cavity glass walls is also considered. The propsed correlations of the averaged heat transfer coefficient (N u) showed that it is dependant on the initial Ra and almost independent on P r. The instantaneous flow patterns, temperature contours and time evolution of volume averaged temperature and heat transfer coefficient are presented and analyzed.

Also we determined the masses and magnetic moment of the nucleon with MIT bag model, using bag radius and compared with other results, suggests a suitable compatibility.
Abstract: This paper describes the design and modeling
procedure of a novel 5-phase segment type switched reluctance motor
(ST-SRM) under simultaneous two-phase (bipolar) excitation of
windings. The rotor cores of ST-SRM are embedded in an aluminum
block as well as to improve the performance characteristics. The
magnetic circuit of the produced ST-SRM is constructed so that the
magnetic flux paths are short and exclusive to each phase, thereby
minimizing the commutation switching and eddy current losses in the
laminations. The design and simulation principles presented apply
primarily to conventional SRM and ST-SRM. It is proved that the
novel 5-phase switched reluctance motor under two-phase excitation
is superior among the criteria used in comparison. The purposed
model is particularly well suited for high torque and weight
constrained applications such as automobiles, aerospace and military
applications.
Abstract: This paper emphasizes on the application of genetic algorithm (GA) to optimize the parameters of the TMD for achieving the best results in the reduction of the building response under earthquake excitations. The Integral of the Time multiplied Absolute value of the Error (ITAE) based on relative displacement of all floors in the building is taken as a performance index of the optimization criterion. The problem of robustly TMD controller design is formatted as an optimization problem based on the ITAE performance index to be solved using GA that has a story ability to find the most optimistic results. An 11–story realistic building, located in the city of Rasht, Iran is considered as a test system to demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed GA based TMD (GATMD) controller without specifying which mode should be controlled. The results of the proposed GATMD controller are compared with the uncontrolled structure through timedomain simulation and some performance indices. The results analysis reveals that the designed GA based TMD controller has an excellent capability in reduction of the seismically excited example building and the ITAE performance, that is so for remains as unknown, can be introduced a new criteria - method for structural dynamic design.
