Abstract: Adaptive observers used in sensorless control of induction motors suffer from instability especally in regenerating mode. In this paper, an optimal feed back gain design is proposed, it can reduce the instability region in the torque speed plane .
Abstract: Alzheimer is known as the loss of mental functions
such as thinking, memory, and reasoning that is severe enough to
interfere with a person's daily functioning. The appearance of
Alzheimer Disease symptoms (AD) are resulted based on which part
of the brain has a variety of infection or damage. In this case, the
MRI is the best biomedical instrumentation can be ever used to
discover the AD existence. Therefore, this paper proposed a fusion
method to distinguish between the normal and (AD) MRIs. In this
combined method around 27 MRIs collected from Jordanian
Hospitals are analyzed based on the use of Low pass -morphological
filters to get the extracted statistical outputs through intensity
histogram to be employed by the descriptive box plot. Also, the
artificial neural network (ANN) is applied to test the performance of
this approach. Finally, the obtained result of t-test with confidence
accuracy (95%) has compared with classification accuracy of ANN
(100 %). The robust of the developed method can be considered
effectively to diagnose and determine the type of AD image.
Abstract: Biologically human brain processes information in both unimodal and multimodal approaches. In fact, information is progressively abstracted and seamlessly fused. Subsequently, the fusion of multimodal inputs allows a holistic understanding of a problem. The proliferation of technology has exponentially produced various sources of data, which could be likened to being the state of multimodality in human brain. Therefore, this is an inspiration to develop a methodology for exploring multimodal data and further identifying multi-view patterns. Specifically, we propose a brain inspired conceptual model that allows exploration and identification of patterns at different levels of granularity, different types of hierarchies and different types of modalities. A structurally adaptive neural network is deployed to implement the proposed model. Furthermore, the acquisition of multi-view patterns with the proposed model is demonstrated and discussed with some experimental results.
Abstract: Neural processors have shown good results for
detecting a certain character in a given input matrix. In this paper, a
new idead to speed up the operation of neural processors for character
detection is presented. Such processors are designed based on cross
correlation in the frequency domain between the input matrix and the
weights of neural networks. This approach is developed to reduce the
computation steps required by these faster neural networks for the
searching process. The principle of divide and conquer strategy is
applied through image decomposition. Each image is divided into
small in size sub-images and then each one is tested separately by
using a single faster neural processor. Furthermore, faster character
detection is obtained by using parallel processing techniques to test the
resulting sub-images at the same time using the same number of faster
neural networks. In contrast to using only faster neural processors, the
speed up ratio is increased with the size of the input image when using
faster neural processors and image decomposition. Moreover, the
problem of local subimage normalization in the frequency domain is
solved. The effect of image normalization on the speed up ratio of
character detection is discussed. Simulation results show that local
subimage normalization through weight normalization is faster than
subimage normalization in the spatial domain. The overall speed up
ratio of the detection process is increased as the normalization of
weights is done off line.
Abstract: Today Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is known as one of the most important tools for decision makers in the construction of civil and industrial projects towards sustainable development. In the past, projects were evaluated based on cost and benefit analysis regardless of the physical and biological environmental effects and its socio-economical impacts. According to the Department of Environment (DOE) of Iran's regulations, the construction of hydroelectric dams is an activity that requires an EIA report. In this paper the environmental impact assessment of the Gotvand hydro-electrical dam has been evaluated in the three environment elements, biological, Physical-chemical and cultural units. This dam is one of the largest dams in Iran with a volume of 4500 MCM and is going to be the last dam on the Karoon River in the south of Iran. In this paper the ICOLD (International Commission on Large Dams) technique was employed for the environmental impact assessment of the dam. The research includes all socio economical and environmental effects of the dam during the construction and operation of the hydro electric dam and Environmental management, monitoring and mitigation of negative impacts were analyzed. In this project the results led to using some techniques to protect the destructive impacts on biological aspects beside the effective long time period impacts on the biological aspects. The impacts on physical aspects are temporary and negative commonly that could be restored and rehabilitated in natural process in the long time in operation period.
Abstract: Studying literature theme in the fields of tourism and
sustainable development and its importance in today world and their
criteria in architecture, here in this article we will also study the area
where the selected site is located; beside the Aab-Ask Village located
in Larijan region in Mazandaran province on the way to Haraz – one
of the tourism routes of Iran. After these studies by analyzing the
site, its strong potentials – such as mineral water springs (hot
springs), geothermal, landscapes and ideal climate - as a tourist
attraction spot in the region, and considering sustainable
development criteria – with regard to limits and available facilities –
a plan was offered that could change the region to provide the needs
of local people and in addition change it to a place where tourism
services is offered to the visitors and make it an acceptable sample of
stable building in Iran. Finally the reason to make design for this
complex is recovery of natural and historical values of Aab-Ask area
regarding development and sustainable architecture criteria in the
form of a functional sample which can be a suitable place to fulfill
this goal for having lots of strong points in attracting cultural and
sustainable tourist.
Abstract: Magneto-rheological (MR) fluid damper is a semiactive
control device that has recently received more attention by the
vibration control community. But inherent hysteretic and highly
nonlinear dynamics of MR fluid damper is one of the challenging
aspects to employ its unique characteristics. The combination of
artificial neural network (ANN) and fuzzy logic system (FLS) have
been used to imitate more precisely the behavior of this device.
However, the derivative-based nature of adaptive networks causes
some deficiencies. Therefore, in this paper, a novel approach that
employ genetic algorithm, as a free-derivative algorithm, to enhance
the capability of fuzzy systems, is proposed. The proposed method
used to model MR damper. The results will be compared with
adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) model, which is one
of the well-known approaches in soft computing framework, and two
best parametric models of MR damper. Data are generated based on
benchmark program by applying a number of famous earthquake
records.
Abstract: One of the main issues in Computer Vision is to extract the movement of one or several points or objects of interest in an image or video sequence to conduct any kind of study or control process. Different techniques to solve this problem have been applied in numerous areas such as surveillance systems, analysis of traffic, motion capture, image compression, navigation systems and others, where the specific characteristics of each scenario determine the approximation to the problem. This paper puts forward a Computer Vision based algorithm to analyze fish trajectories in high turbulence conditions in artificial structures called vertical slot fishways, designed to allow the upstream migration of fish through obstructions in rivers. The suggested algorithm calculates the position of the fish at every instant starting from images recorded with a camera and using neural networks to execute fish detection on images. Different laboratory tests have been carried out in a full scale fishway model and with living fishes, allowing the reconstruction of the fish trajectory and the measurement of velocities and accelerations of the fish. These data can provide useful information to design more effective vertical slot fishways.
Abstract: This paper discusses about an intelligent system to be
installed in ambulances providing professional support to the paramedics on board. A video conferencing device over mobile 4G services enables specialists virtually attending the patient being transferred to the hospital. The data centre holds detailed databases
on the patients past medical history and hospitals with the specialists. It also hosts various software modules that compute the shortest traffic –less path to the closest hospital with the required facilities, on inputting the symptoms of the patient, on a real time basis.
Abstract: Clusters of microcalcifications in mammograms are an
important sign of breast cancer. This paper presents a complete
Computer Aided Detection (CAD) scheme for automatic detection of
clustered microcalcifications in digital mammograms. The proposed
system, MammoScan μCaD, consists of three main steps. Firstly
all potential microcalcifications are detected using a a method for
feature extraction, VarMet, and adaptive thresholding. This will also
give a number of false detections. The goal of the second step,
Classifier level 1, is to remove everything but microcalcifications.
The last step, Classifier level 2, uses learned dictionaries and sparse
representations as a texture classification technique to distinguish
single, benign microcalcifications from clustered microcalcifications,
in addition to remove some remaining false detections. The system
is trained and tested on true digital data from Stavanger University
Hospital, and the results are evaluated by radiologists. The overall
results are promising, with a sensitivity > 90 % and a low false
detection rate (approx 1 unwanted pr. image, or 0.3 false pr. image).
Abstract: In this paper, we are going to determine the threshold levels of adaptive modulation in a burst by burst CDMA system by a suboptimum method so that the above method attempts to increase the average bit per symbol (BPS) rate of transceiver system by switching between the different modulation modes in variable channel condition. In this method, we choose the minimum values of average bit error rate (BER) and maximum values of average BPS on different values of average channel signal to noise ratio (SNR) and then calculate the relative threshold levels of them, so that when the instantaneous SNR increases, a higher order modulation be employed for increasing throughput and vise-versa when the instantaneous SNR decreases, a lower order modulation be employed for improvement of BER. In transmission step, by this adaptive modulation method, in according to comparison between obtained estimation of pilot symbols and a set of above suboptimum threshold levels, above system chooses one of states no transmission, BPSK, 4QAM and square 16QAM for modulation of data. The expected channel in this paper is a slow Rayleigh fading.
Abstract: To motivate users to adopt and use information
systems effectively, the nature of motivation should be carefully
investigated. People are usually motivated within ongoing processes
which include a chain of states such as perception, stimulation,
motivation, actions and reactions and finally, satisfaction. This study
assumes that the relevant motivation processes should be executed in
a proper and continuous manner to be able to persistently motivate
and re-motivate people in organizational settings and towards
information systems. On this basis, the study attempts to propose
possible relationships between this process-nature view of
motivation in terms of the common chain of states and the nearly
unique properties of information systems as is perceived by users in
the sense of a knowledgeable and authoritative entity. In the
conclusion section, some guidelines for practitioners are suggested to
ease their tasks for motivating people to adopt and use information
systems.
Abstract: Our adaptive multimodal system aims at correctly
presenting a mathematical expression to visually impaired users.
Given an interaction context (i.e. combination of user, environment
and system resources) as well as the complexity of the expression
itself and the user-s preferences, the suitability scores of different
presentation format are calculated. Unlike the current state-of-the art
solutions, our approach takes into account the user-s situation and not
imposes a solution that is not suitable to his context and capacity. In
this wok, we present our methodology for calculating the
mathematical expression complexity and the results of our
experiment. Finally, this paper discusses the concepts and principles
applied on our system as well as their validation through cases
studies. This work is our original contribution to an ongoing research
to make informatics more accessible to handicapped users.
Abstract: In most study fields, a phenomenon may not be
studied directly but it will be examined indirectly by phenomenon
model. Making an accurate model of system, there is attained new
information from modeled phenomenon without any charge, danger,
etc... there have been developed more solutions for describing and
analyzing the recent complicated systems but few of them have
analyzed the performance in the range of system description. Petri
nets are of limited solutions which may make such union. Petri nets
are being applied in problems related to modeling and designing the
systems. Theory of Petri nets allow a system to model
mathematically by a Petri net and analyzing the Petri net can then
determine main information of modeled system-s structure and
dynamic. This information can be used for assessing the performance
of systems and suggesting corrections in the system. In this paper,
beside the introduction of Petri nets, a real case study will be studied
in order to show the application of generalized stochastic Petri nets in
modeling a resource sharing production system and evaluating the
efficiency of its machines and robots. The modeling tool used here is
SHARP software which calculates specific indicators helping to
make decision.
Abstract: The study of morphometric and histologic evolutions
of the Bursa of Fabricus during 27 weeks of post-hashing age,
realized on 88 subjects of broiler chicken they permitted to collect
information about the morpho-histological aspect according to their
post-hashing age; showed the size and the weight of the Bursa of
Fabricius which reach their maximum between the 10th and the 11th
week of age and the physiologic involution phenomena. These
variations are in close relationship to the sexual maturity. These
results can be used in the diagnosis of viral disease such as the
Gumboro disease, Marek disease.
Abstract: Master plan is a tool to guide and manage the growth of cities in a planned manner. The soul of a master plan lies in its implementation framework. If not implemented, people are trapped in a mess of urban problems and laissez-faire development having serious long term repercussions. Unfortunately, Master Plans prepared for several major cities of Pakistan could not be fully implemented due to host of reasons and Lahore is no exception. Being the second largest city of Pakistan with a population of over 7 million people, Lahore holds the distinction that the first ever Master Plan in the country was prepared for this city in 1966. Recently in 2004, a new plan titled `Integrated Master Plan for Lahore-2021- has been approved for implementation. This paper provides a comprehensive account of the weaknesses and constraints in the plan preparation process and implementation strategies of Master Plans prepared for Lahore. It also critically reviews the new Master Plan particularly with respect to the proposed implementation framework. The paper discusses the prospects and pre-conditions for successful implementation of the new Plan in the light of historic analysis, interviews with stakeholders and the new institutional context under the devolution plan.
Abstract: The residue number system (RNS), due to its
properties, is used in applications in which high performance
computation is needed. The carry free nature, which makes the
arithmetic, carry bounded as well as the paralleling facility is the
reason of its capability of high speed rendering. Since carry is not
propagated between the moduli in this system, the performance is
only restricted by the speed of the operations in each modulus. In this
paper a novel method of number representation by use of redundancy
is suggested in which {rn- 2,rn-1,rn} is the reference moduli set
where r=2k+1 and k =1, 2,3,.. This method achieves fast
computations and conversions and makes the circuits of them much
simpler.
Abstract: Graph rewriting-based visual model processing is a
widely used technique for model transformation. Visual model
transformations often need to follow an algorithm that requires a
strict control over the execution sequence of the transformation steps.
Therefore, in Visual Model Processors (VMPs) the execution order
of the transformation steps is crucial. This paper presents the visual
control flow support of Visual Modeling and Transformation System
(VMTS), which facilitates composing complex model
transformations of simple transformation steps and executing them.
The VMTS Visual Control Flow Language (VCFL) uses stereotyped
activity diagrams to specify control flow structures and OCL
constraints to choose between different control flow branches. This
paper introduces VCFL, discusses its termination properties and
provides an algorithm to support the termination analysis of VCFL
transformations.
Abstract: Vibration characteristics of subcooled flow boiling on
thin and long structures such as a heating rod were recently
investigated by the author. The results show that the intensity of the
subcooled boiling-induced vibration (SBIV) was influenced strongly
by the conditions of the subcooling temperature, linear power density
and flow velocity. Implosive bubble formation and collapse are the
main nature of subcooled boiling, and their behaviors are the only
sources to originate from SBIV. Therefore, in order to explain the
phenomenon of SBIV, it is essential to obtain reliable information
about bubble behavior in subcooled boiling conditions. This was
investigated at different conditions of coolant subcooling
temperatures of 25 to 75°C, coolant flow velocities of 0.16 to
0.53m/s, and linear power densities of 100 to 600 W/cm. High speed
photography at 13,500 frames per second was performed at these
conditions. The results show that even at the highest subcooling
condition, the absolute majority of bubbles collapse very close to the
surface after detaching from the heating surface. Based on these
observations, a simple model of surface tension and momentum
change is introduced to offer a rough quantitative estimate of the
force exerted on the heating surface during the bubble ebullition. The
formation of a typical bubble in subcooled boiling is predicted to
exert an excitation force in the order of 10-4 N.
Abstract: The understanding of the system level of biological behavior and phenomenon variously needs some elements such as gene sequence, protein structure, gene functions and metabolic pathways. Challenging problems are representing, learning and reasoning about these biochemical reactions, gene and protein structure, genotype and relation between the phenotype, and expression system on those interactions. The goal of our work is to understand the behaviors of the interactions networks and to model their evolution in time and in space. We propose in this study an ontological meta-model for the knowledge representation of the genetic regulatory networks. Ontology in artificial intelligence means the fundamental categories and relations that provide a framework for knowledge models. Domain ontology's are now commonly used to enable heterogeneous information resources, such as knowledge-based systems, to communicate with each other. The interest of our model is to represent the spatial, temporal and spatio-temporal knowledge. We validated our propositions in the genetic regulatory network of the Aarbidosis thaliana flower
