Abstract: In this paper we present semantic assistant agent
(SAA), an open source digital library agent which takes user query
for finding information in the digital library and takes resources-
metadata and stores it semantically. SAA uses Semantic Web to
improve browsing and searching for resources in digital library. All
metadata stored in the library are available in RDF format for
querying and processing by SemanSreach which is a part of SAA
architecture. The architecture includes a generic RDF-based model
that represents relationships among objects and their components.
Queries against these relationships are supported by an RDF triple
store.
Abstract: Group-III nitride material as particularly AlxGa1-xN is
one of promising optoelectronic materials to require for shortwavelength
devices. To achieve the high-quality AlxGa1-xN films for
a high performance of such devices, AlN-nucleation layers are the
important factor. To improve the AlN-nucleation layers with a
variation of Ga-addition, XRD measurements were conducted to
analyze the crystalline quality of the subsequent Al0.1Ga0.9N with the
minimum ω-FWHMs of (0002) and (10-10) reflections of 425 arcsec
and 750 arcsec, respectively. SEM and AFM measurements were
performed to observe the surface morphology and TEM
measurements to identify the microstructures and orientations.
Results showed that the optimized Ga-atoms in the Al(Ga)Nnucleation
layers improved the surface diffusion to form moreuniform
crystallites in structure and size, better alignment of each
crystallite, and better homogeneity of island distribution. This, hence,
improves the orientation of epilayers on the Si-surface and finally
improves the crystalline quality and reduces the residual strain of
subsequent Al0.1Ga0.9N layers.
Abstract: The back propagation algorithm calculates the weight
changes of artificial neural networks, and a common approach is to
use a training algorithm consisting of a learning rate and a
momentum factor. The major drawbacks of above learning algorithm
are the problems of local minima and slow convergence speeds. The
addition of an extra term, called a proportional factor reduces the
convergence of the back propagation algorithm. We have applied the
three term back propagation to multiplicative neural network
learning. The algorithm is tested on XOR and parity problem and
compared with the standard back propagation training algorithm.
Abstract: For more than 120 years, gold mining formed the
backbone the South Africa-s economy. The consequence of mine
closure was observed in large-scale land degradation and widespread
pollution of surface water and groundwater. This paper investigates
the feasibility of using natural zeolite in removing heavy metals
contaminating the Wonderfonteinspruit Catchment Area (WCA), a
water stream with high levels of heavy metals and radionuclide
pollution. Batch experiments were conducted to study the adsorption
behavior of natural zeolite with respect to Fe2+, Mn2+, Ni2+, and Zn2+.
The data was analysed using the Langmuir and Freudlich isotherms.
Langmuir was found to correlate the adsorption of Fe2+, Mn2+, Ni2+,
and Zn2+ better, with the adsorption capacity of 11.9 mg/g, 1.2 mg/g,
1.3 mg/g, and 14.7 mg/g, respectively. Two kinetic models namely,
pseudo-first order and pseudo second order were also tested to fit the
data. Pseudo-second order equation was found to be the best fit for
the adsorption of heavy metals by natural zeolite. Zeolite
functionalization with humic acid increased its uptake ability.
Abstract: This paper is a continuation of our daily energy peak load forecasting approach using our modified network which is part of the recurrent networks family and is called feed forward and feed back multi context artificial neural network (FFFB-MCANN). The inputs to the network were exogenous variables such as the previous and current change in the weather components, the previous and current status of the day and endogenous variables such as the past change in the loads. Endogenous variable such as the current change in the loads were used on the network output. Experiment shows that using endogenous and exogenous variables as inputs to the FFFBMCANN rather than either exogenous or endogenous variables as inputs to the same network produces better results. Experiments show that using the change in variables such as weather components and the change in the past load as inputs to the FFFB-MCANN rather than the absolute values for the weather components and past load as inputs to the same network has a dramatic impact and produce better accuracy.
Abstract: Using mobile Internet access technologies and eservices,
various economic agents can efficiently offer their products
or services to a large number of clients. With the support of mobile
communications networks, the clients can have access to e-services,
anywhere and anytime. This is a base to establish a convergence of
technological and financial interests of mobile operators, software
developers, mobile terminals producers and e-content providers. In
this paper, a client server system is presented, using 3G, EDGE,
mobile terminals, for Stock Exchange e-services access.
Abstract: Quantum computation using qubits made of two component Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) is analyzed. We construct a general framework for quantum algorithms to be executed using the collective states of the BECs. The use of BECs allows for an increase of energy scales via bosonic enhancement, resulting in two qubit gate operations that can be performed at a time reduced by a factor of N, where N is the number of bosons per qubit. We illustrate the scheme by an application to Deutsch-s and Grover-s algorithms, and discuss possible experimental implementations. Decoherence effects are analyzed under both general conditions and for the experimental implementation proposed.
Abstract: The study of a real function of two real variables can be supported by visualization using a Computer Algebra System (CAS). One type of constraints of the system is due to the algorithms implemented, yielding continuous approximations of the given function by interpolation. This often masks discontinuities of the function and can provide strange plots, not compatible with the mathematics. In recent years, point based geometry has gained increasing attention as an alternative surface representation, both for efficient rendering and for flexible geometry processing of complex surfaces. In this paper we present different artifacts created by mesh surfaces near discontinuities and propose a point based method that controls and reduces these artifacts. A least squares penalty method for an automatic generation of the mesh that controls the behavior of the chosen function is presented. The special feature of this method is the ability to improve the accuracy of the surface visualization near a set of interior points where the function may be discontinuous. The present method is formulated as a minimax problem and the non uniform mesh is generated using an iterative algorithm. Results show that for large poorly conditioned matrices, the new algorithm gives more accurate results than the classical preconditioned conjugate algorithm.
Abstract: Modeling of the dynamic behavior and motion are
renewed interest in the improved tractive performance of an
intelligent air-cushion tracked vehicle (IACTV). This paper presents
a new dynamical model for the forces on the developed small scale
intelligent air-cushion tracked vehicle moving over swamp peat. The
air cushion system partially supports the 25 % of vehicle total weight
in order to make the vehicle ground contact pressure 7 kN/m2. As the
air-cushion support system can adjust automatically on the terrain, so
the vehicle can move over the terrain without any risks. The springdamper
system is used with the vehicle body to control the aircushion
support system on any undulating terrain by making the
system sinusoidal form. Experiments have been carried out to
investigate the relationships among tractive efficiency, slippage,
traction coefficient, load distribution ratio, tractive effort, motion
resistance and power consumption in given terrain conditions.
Experiment and simulation results show that air-cushion system
improves the vehicle performance by keeping traction coefficient of
71% and tractive efficiency of 62% and the developed model can
meet the demand of transport efficiency with the optimal power
consumption.
Abstract: This paper addresses the problem of the partial state
feedback stabilization of a class of nonlinear systems. In order to
stabilization this class systems, the especial place of this paper is
to reverse designing the state feedback control law from the method
of judging system stability with the center manifold theory. First of
all, the center manifold theory is applied to discuss the stabilization
sufficient condition and design the stabilizing state control laws for a
class of nonlinear. Secondly, the problem of partial stabilization for a
class of plane nonlinear system is discuss using the lyapunov second
method and the center manifold theory. Thirdly, we investigate specially
the problem of the stabilization for a class of homogenous plane
nonlinear systems, a class of nonlinear with dual-zero eigenvalues and
a class of nonlinear with zero-center using the method of lyapunov
function with homogenous derivative, specifically. At the end of this
paper, some examples and simulation results are given show that the
approach of this paper to this class of nonlinear system is effective
and convenient.
Abstract: In order to evaluation the effects of soil organic
matter and biofertilizer on chickpea quality and biological
nitrogen fixation, field experiments were carried out in 2007
and 2008 growing seasons. In this research the effects of
different strategies for soil fertilization were investigated on
grain yield and yield component, minerals, organic compounds
and cooking time of chickpea. Experimental units were
arranged in split-split plots based on randomized complete
blocks with three replications. Main plots consisted of (G1):
establishing a mixed vegetation of Vicia panunica and
Hordeum vulgare and (G2): control, as green manure levels.
Also, five strategies for obtaining the base fertilizer
requirement including (N1): 20 t.ha-1 farmyard manure; (N2):
10 t.ha-1 compost; (N3): 75 kg.ha-1 triple super phosphate;
(N4): 10 t.ha-1 farmyard manure + 5 t.ha-1 compost and (N5):
10 t.ha-1 farmyard manure + 5 t.ha-1 compost + 50 kg.ha-1
triple super phosphate were considered in sub plots.
Furthermoree four levels of biofertilizers consisted of (B1):
Bacillus lentus + Pseudomonas putida; (B2): Trichoderma
harzianum; (B3): Bacillus lentus + Pseudomonas putida +
Trichoderma harzianum; and (B4): control (without
biofertilizers) were arranged in sub-sub plots. Results showed
that integrating biofertilizers (B3) and green manure (G1)
produced the highest grain yield. The highest amounts of yield
were obtained in G1×N5 interaction. Comparison of all 2-way
and 3-way interactions showed that G1N5B3 was determined
as the superior treatment. Significant increasing of N, P2O5,
K2O, Fe and Mg content in leaves and grains emphasized on
superiority of mentioned treatment because each one of these
nutrients has an approved role in chlorophyll synthesis and
photosynthesis abilities of the crops. The combined application
of compost, farmyard manure and chemical phosphorus (N5)
in addition to having the highest yield, had the best grain
quality due to high protein, starch and total sugar contents, low
crude fiber and reduced cooking time.
Abstract: Based on Rayleigh beam theory, the sub-impacts of a
free-free beam struck horizontally by a round-nosed rigid mass is
simulated by the finite difference method and the impact-separation
conditions. In order to obtain the sub-impact force, a uniaxial
compression elastic-plastic contact model is employed to analyze the
local deformation field on contact zone. It is found that the horizontal
impact is a complicated process including the elastic plastic
sub-impacts in sequence. There are two sub-zones of sub-impact. In
addition, it found that the elastic energy of the free-free beam is more
suitable for the Poisson collision hypothesis to explain compression
and recovery processes.
Abstract: In this paper, a nonlinear delay population model is investigated. Choosing the delay as a bifurcation parameter, we demonstrate that Hopf bifurcation will occur when the delay exceeds a critical value. Global existence of bifurcating periodic solutions is established. Numerical simulations supporting the theoretical findings are included.
Abstract: The Inter feeder Power Flow Regulator (IFPFR)
proposed in this paper consists of several voltage source inverters
with common dc bus; each inverter is connected in series with one of
different independent distribution feeders in the power system. This
paper is concerned with how to transfer power between the feeders for
load sharing purpose. The power controller of each inverter injects
the power (for sending feeder) or absorbs the power (for receiving
feeder) via injecting suitable voltage; this voltage injection is
simulated by voltage drop across series virtual impedance, the
impedance value is selected to achieve the concept of power exchange
between the feeders without perturbing the load voltage magnitude of
each feeder. In this paper a new control scheme for load sharing using
IFPFR is proposed.
Abstract: In this paper, we consider the problem of logic simplification for a special class of logic functions, namely complementary Boolean functions (CBF), targeting low power implementation using static CMOS logic style. The functions are uniquely characterized by the presence of terms, where for a canonical binary 2-tuple, D(mj) ∪ D(mk) = { } and therefore, we have | D(mj) ∪ D(mk) | = 0 [19]. Similarly, D(Mj) ∪ D(Mk) = { } and hence | D(Mj) ∪ D(Mk) | = 0. Here, 'mk' and 'Mk' represent a minterm and maxterm respectively. We compare the circuits minimized with our proposed method with those corresponding to factored Reed-Muller (f-RM) form, factored Pseudo Kronecker Reed-Muller (f-PKRM) form, and factored Generalized Reed-Muller (f-GRM) form. We have opted for algebraic factorization of the Reed-Muller (RM) form and its different variants, using the factorization rules of [1], as it is simple and requires much less CPU execution time compared to Boolean factorization operations. This technique has enabled us to greatly reduce the literal count as well as the gate count needed for such RM realizations, which are generally prone to consuming more cells and subsequently more power consumption. However, this leads to a drawback in terms of the design-for-test attribute associated with the various RM forms. Though we still preserve the definition of those forms viz. realizing such functionality with only select types of logic gates (AND gate and XOR gate), the structural integrity of the logic levels is not preserved. This would consequently alter the testability properties of such circuits i.e. it may increase/decrease/maintain the same number of test input vectors needed for their exhaustive testability, subsequently affecting their generalized test vector computation. We do not consider the issue of design-for-testability here, but, instead focus on the power consumption of the final logic implementation, after realization with a conventional CMOS process technology (0.35 micron TSMC process). The quality of the resulting circuits evaluated on the basis of an established cost metric viz., power consumption, demonstrate average savings by 26.79% for the samples considered in this work, besides reduction in number of gates and input literals by 39.66% and 12.98% respectively, in comparison with other factored RM forms.
Abstract: This policy participation action research explores the
roles of Thai government units during its 2010 fiscal year on how to
create value added to recycling business in the central part of
Thailand. The research aims to a) study how the government plays a
role to support the business, and its problems and obstacles on
supporting the business, b) to design a strategic action – short,
medium, and long term plans -- to create value added to the recycling
business, particularly in local full-loop companies/organizations
licensed by Wongpanit Waste Separation Plant as well as those
licensed by the Department of Provincial Administration. Mixed
method research design, i.e., a combination of quantitative and
qualitative methods is utilized in the present study in both data
collection and analysis procedures. Quantitative data was analyzed
by frequency, percent value, mean scores, and standard deviation,
and aimed to note trend and generalizations. Qualitative data was
collected via semi-structured interviews/focus group interviews to
explore in-depth views of the operators. The sampling included 1,079
operators in eight provinces in the central part of Thailand.
Abstract: In the present work we report a gram negative
bacterial isolate, from soil of a dye industry, with promising
biorefining and bioremediation potential. This isolate (GBS.5) could
utilize carbazole (nitrogen containing polycyclic aromatic
hydrocarbon) as the sole source of nitrogen and carbon and utilize
almost 98% of 3mM carbazole in 100 hours. The specific activity of
our GBS.5 isolate for carbazole degradation at 30°C and pH 7.0 was
found to be 11.36 μmol/min/g dry cell weight as compared to 10.4
μmol/min/g dry cell weight, the highest reported specific activity till
date. The presence of car genes (the genes involved in
denitrogenation of carbazole) was confirmed through PCR
amplification.
Abstract: In turning hardened steel, polycrystalline cubic boron
nitride (cBN) compacts are widely used, due to their higher hardness
and higher thermal conductivity. However, in milling hardened steel,
fracture of cBN cutting tools readily occurs because they have poor
fracture toughness. Therefore, coated cemented carbide tools, which
have good fracture toughness and wear resistance, are generally
widely used. In this study, hardened steel (ASTM D2, JIS SKD11,
60HRC) was milled with three physical vapor deposition
(PVD)-coated cemented carbide end mill cutters in order to determine
effective tool materials for cutting hardened steel at high cutting
speeds. The coating films used were (Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si)N and
(Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si,Al)N coating films. (Ti,W,Si,Al)N is a new type of
coating film. The inner layer of the (Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si)N and
(Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si,Al)N coating system is (Ti,W)N coating film, and
the outer layer is (Ti,W,Si)N and (Ti,W,Si,Al)N coating films,
respectively. Furthermore, commercial (Ti,Al)N-based coating film
was also used. The following results were obtained: (1) In milling
hardened steel at a cutting speed of 3.33 m/s, the tool wear width of the
(Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si,Al)N-coated tool was smaller than that of the
(Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si)N-coated tool. And, compared with the commercial
(Ti,Al)N, the tool wear width of the (Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si,Al)N-coated
tool was smaller than that of the (Ti,Al)N-coated tool. (2) The tool
wear of the (Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si,Al)N-coated tool increased with an
increase in cutting speed. (3) The (Ti,W)N/(Ti,W,Si,Al)N-coated
cemented carbide was an effective tool material for high-speed cutting
below a cutting speed of 3.33 m/s.

Abstract: Spatial trends are one of the valuable patterns in geo
databases. They play an important role in data analysis and
knowledge discovery from spatial data. A spatial trend is a regular
change of one or more non spatial attributes when spatially moving
away from a start object. Spatial trend detection is a graph search
problem therefore heuristic methods can be good solution. Artificial
immune system (AIS) is a special method for searching and
optimizing. AIS is a novel evolutionary paradigm inspired by the
biological immune system. The models based on immune system
principles, such as the clonal selection theory, the immune network
model or the negative selection algorithm, have been finding
increasing applications in fields of science and engineering.
In this paper, we develop a novel immunological algorithm based
on clonal selection algorithm (CSA) for spatial trend detection. We
are created neighborhood graph and neighborhood path, then select
spatial trends that their affinity is high for antibody. In an
evolutionary process with artificial immune algorithm, affinity of
low trends is increased with mutation until stop condition is satisfied.
