Abstract: Phase locked loops (PLL) and delay locked loops (DLL) play an important role in establishing coherent references (phase of carrier and symbol timing) in digital communication systems. Fully digital receiver including digital carrier synchronizer and symbol timing synchronizer fulfils the conditions for universal multi-mode communication receiver with option of symbol rate setting over several digit places and long-term stability of requirement parameters. Afterwards it is necessary to realize PLL and DLL in synchronizer in digital form and to approach to these subsystems as a discrete representation of analog template. Analysis of discrete phase locked loop (DPLL) or discrete delay locked loop (DDLL) and technique to determine their characteristics based on analog (continuous-time) template is performed in this posed paper. There are derived transmission response and error function for 1st order discrete locked loop and resulting equations and graphical representations for 2nd order one. It is shown that the spectrum translation due to sampling takes effect at frequency characteristics computing for specific values of loop parameters.
Abstract: Coagulation of water involves the use of coagulating
agents to bring the suspended matter in the raw water together for
settling and the filtration stage. Present study is aimed to examine the
effects of aluminum sulfate as coagulant in conjunction with Moringa
Oleifera Coagulant Protein as coagulant aid on turbidity, hardness,
and bacteria in turbid water. A conventional jar test apparatus was
employed for the tests. The best removal was observed at a pH of 7
to 7.5 for all turbidities. Turbidity removal efficiency was resulted
between % 80 to % 99 by Moringa Oleifera Coagulant Protein as
coagulant aid. Dosage of coagulant and coagulant aid decreased with
increasing turbidity. In addition, Moringa Oleifera Coagulant Protein
significantly has reduced the required dosage of primary coagulant.
Residual Al+3 in treated water were less than 0.2 mg/l and meets the
environmental protection agency guidelines. The results showed that
turbidity reduction of % 85.9- % 98 paralleled by a primary
Escherichia coli reduction of 1-3 log units (99.2 – 99.97%) was
obtained within the first 1 to 2 h of treatment. In conclusions,
Moringa Oleifera Coagulant Protein as coagulant aid can be used for
drinking water treatment without the risk of organic or nutrient
release. We demonstrated that optimal design method is an efficient
approach for optimization of coagulation-flocculation process and
appropriate for raw water treatment.
Abstract: The importance of nurturing, accumulating, and efficiently deploying knowledge resources through formal structures and organisational mechanisms is well understood. Recent trends in knowledge management (KM) highlight that the effective creation and transfer of knowledge can also rely upon extra-organisational channels, such as, informal networks. The perception exists that the role of informal networks in knowledge creation and performance has been underestimated in the organisational context. Literature indicates that many managers fail to comprehend and successfully exploit the potential role of informal networks to create value for their organisations. This paper investigates: 1) whether managers share work-specific knowledge with informal contacts within and outside organisational boundaries; and 2) what do they think is the importance of this knowledge collaboration in their learning and work outcomes.
Abstract: The traditional method for essential oil extraction from agarwood (Aquilaria Crassna) is to soak it in water and follow with hydrodistillation. The effect of various agarwood pretreatments: ethanol, acid, alkaline, enzymes, and ultrasound, and the effect of subcritical water extraction(SWE) was studied to compare with the traditional method. The major compositions of agarwood oil from hydrodistillation were aroma compounds as follow: aristol-9-en-8- one (21.53%), selina-3, 7(11)-diene (12.96%), τ-himachalene (9.28%), β-guaiene (5.79%), hexadecanoic acid (4.90%) and guaia- 3,9-diene (4.21%). Whereas agarwood oil from pretreatments with ethanol and ultrasound, and SWE got fatty acid compounds. Extraction of agarwood oil using these pretreatments could improve the agarwood oil yields up to 2 times that of the traditional method. The components of the pretreated sample with diluted acid (H2SO4) at pH 4 gave quite similar results as the traditional method. Therefore, the enhancement of essential oil from agarwood depends on requirement of type of extracted oil that involved extraction methods.
Abstract: Coal fly ash (CFA) generated by coal-based thermal
power plants is mainly composed of quartz, mullite, and unburned
carbon. In this study, the effect of unburned carbon on CFA toward
its adsorption capacity was investigated. CFA with various carbon
content was obtained by refluxing it with sulfuric acid having various
concentration at various temperature and reflux time, by heating at
400-800°C, and by sieving into 100-mesh in particle size. To
evaluate the effect of unburned carbon on CFA toward its adsorption
capacity, adsorption of methyl violet solution with treated CFA was
carried out. The research shows that unburned carbon leads to
adsorption capacity decrease. The highest adsorption capacity of
treated CFA was found 5.73 x 10-4mol.g-1.
Abstract: In many industries, control charts is one of the most
frequently used tools for quality management. Hotelling-s T2 is used
widely in multivariate control chart. However, it has little defect when
detecting small or medium process shifts. The use of supplementary
sensitizing rules can improve the performance of detection. This study
applied sensitizing rules for Hotelling-s T2 control chart to improve the
performance of detection. Support vector machines (SVM) classifier
to identify the characteristic or group of characteristics that are
responsible for the signal and to classify the magnitude of the mean
shifts. The experimental results demonstrate that the support vector
machines (SVM) classifier can effectively identify the characteristic
or group of characteristics that caused the process mean shifts and the
magnitude of the shifts.
Abstract: Process-oriented software development is a new
software development paradigm in which software design is modeled
by a business process which is in turn translated into a process
execution language for execution. The building blocks of this
paradigm are software units that are composed together to work
according to the flow of the business process. This new paradigm
still exhibits the characteristic of the applications built with the
traditional software component technology. This paper discusses an
approach to apply a traditional technique for software component
fabrication to the design of process-oriented software units, called
process components. These process components result from
decomposing a business process of a particular application domain
into subprocesses, and these process components can be reused to
design the business processes of other application domains. The
decomposition considers five managerial goals, namely cost
effectiveness, ease of assembly, customization, reusability, and
maintainability. The paper presents how to design or decompose
process components from a business process model and measure
some technical features of the design that would affect the
managerial goals. A comparison between the measurement values
from different designs can tell which process component design is
more appropriate for the managerial goals that have been set. The
proposed approach can be applied in Web Services environment
which accommodates process-oriented software development.
Abstract: The threshold voltage and capacitance voltage characteristics of ultra-thin Silicon-on-Insulator MOSFET are greatly influenced by the thickness and doping concentration of the silicon film. In this work, the capacitance voltage characteristics and threshold voltage of the device have been analyzed with quantum mechanical effects using the Self-Consistent model. Reduction of channel thickness and adding doping impurities cause an increase in the threshold voltage. Moreover, the temperature effects cause a significant amount of threshold voltage shift. The temperature dependence of threshold voltage has also been observed with Self- Consistent approach which are well supported from experimental performance of practical devices.
Abstract: The analytical solution of functionally graded
piezoelectric hollow cylinder which is under radial electric potential
and non-axisymmetric thermo-mechanical loads, are presented in this
paper. Using complex Fourier series and estimation of power law for
variations of material characterizations through the thickness, the
electro thermo mechanical behavior of the FGPM cylinder is
obtained. The stress and displacement distributions and the effect of
electric potential field on the cylinder behavior are also presented and
some applicable results are offered at the end of the paper.
Abstract: Residues are produced in all stages of human activities
in terms of composition and volume which vary according to
consumption practices and to production methods. Forms of
significant harm to the environment are associated to volume of
generated material as well as to improper disposal of solid wastes,
whose negative effects are noticed more frequently in the long term.
The solution to this problem constitutes a challenge to the
government, industry and society, because they involve economic,
social, environmental and, especially, awareness of the population in
general. The main concerns are focused on the impact it can have on
human health and on the environment (soil, water, air and sights).
The hazardous waste produced mainly by industry, are particularly
worrisome because, when improperly managed, they become a
serious threat to the environment. In view of this issue, this study
aimed to evaluate the management system of solid waste of a coprocessing
industrial waste company, to propose improvements to the
rejects generation management in a specific step of the Blending
production process.
Abstract: The development and extension of large cities induced
a need for shallow tunnel in soft ground of building areas. Estimation
of ground settlement caused by the tunnel excavation is important
engineering point. In this paper, prediction of surface subsidence
caused by tunneling in one section of seventh line of Tehran subway
is considered. On the basis of studied geotechnical conditions of the
region, tunnel with the length of 26.9km has been excavated applying
a mechanized method using an EPB-TBM with a diameter of 9.14m.
In this regard, settlement is estimated utilizing both analytical and
numerical finite element method. The numerical method shows that
the value of settlement in this section is 5cm. Besides, the analytical
consequences (Bobet and Loganathan-Polous) are 5.29 and 12.36cm,
respectively. According to results of this study, due tosaturation of
this section, there are good agreement between Bobet and numerical
methods. Therefore, tunneling processes in this section needs a
special consolidation measurement and support system before the
passage of tunnel boring machine.
Abstract: This paper presents a formant-tracking linear prediction
(FTLP) model for speech processing in noise. The main focus of this
work is the detection of formant trajectory based on Hidden Markov
Models (HMM), for improved formant estimation in noise. The
approach proposed in this paper provides a systematic framework for
modelling and utilization of a time- sequence of peaks which satisfies
continuity constraints on parameter; the within peaks are modelled
by the LP parameters. The formant tracking LP model estimation
is composed of three stages: (1) a pre-cleaning multi-band spectral
subtraction stage to reduce the effect of residue noise on formants
(2) estimation stage where an initial estimate of the LP model of
speech for each frame is obtained (3) a formant classification using
probability models of formants and Viterbi-decoders. The evaluation
results for the estimation of the formant tracking LP model tested
in Gaussian white noise background, demonstrate that the proposed
combination of the initial noise reduction stage with formant tracking
and LPC variable order analysis, results in a significant reduction in
errors and distortions. The performance was evaluated with noisy
natual vowels extracted from international french and English vocabulary
speech signals at SNR value of 10dB. In each case, the
estimated formants are compared to reference formants.
Abstract: Plastic waste is a big issue in Thailand, but the amount of recycled plastic in Thailand is still low due to the high investment and operating cost. Hence, the rest of plastic waste are burnt to destroy or sent to the landfills. In order to be financial viable, an effective reverse logistics infrastructure is required to support the product recovery activities. However, there is a conflict between reducing the cost and raising environmental protection level. The purpose of this study is to build a goal programming (GP) so that it can be used to help analyze the proper planning of the Thailand-s plastic recycling system that involves multiple objectives. This study considers three objectives; reducing total cost, increasing the amount of plastic recovery, and raising the desired plastic materials in recycling process. The results from two priority structures show that it is necessary to raise the total cost budget in order to achieve targets on amount of recycled plastic and desired plastic materials.
Abstract: Training neural networks to capture an intrinsic
property of a large volume of high dimensional data is a difficult
task, as the training process is computationally expensive. Input
attributes should be carefully selected to keep the dimensionality of
input vectors relatively small.
Technical indexes commonly used for stock market prediction
using neural networks are investigated to determine its effectiveness
as inputs. The feed forward neural network of Levenberg-Marquardt
algorithm is applied to perform one step ahead forecasting of
NASDAQ and Dow stock prices.
Abstract: Air emissions from waste treatment plants often
consist of a combination of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
and odors. Hydrogen sulfide is one of the major odorous gases
present in the waste emissions coming from municipal wastewater
treatment facilities. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is odorous, highly toxic
and flammable. Exposure to lower concentrations can result in eye
irritation, a sore throat and cough, shortness of breath, and fluid in
the lungs. Biofiltration has become a widely accepted technology for
treating air streams containing H2S. When compared with other nonbiological
technologies, biofilter is more cost-effective for treating large
volumes of air containing low concentrations of biodegradable compounds.
Optimization of biofilter media is essential for many reasons such as:
providing a higher surface area for biofilm growth, low pressure drop,
physical stability, and good moisture retention. In this work, a novel
biofilter media is developed and tested at a pumping station of a
municipality located in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The
media is found to be very effective (>99%) in removing H2S
concentrations that are expected in pumping stations under steady
state and shock loading conditions.
Abstract: This work presents a matched field processing (MFP)
algorithm based on Dopplerlet transform for estimating the motion
parameters of a sound source moving along a straight line and with a
constant speed by using a piecewise strategy, which can significantly
reduce the computational burden. Monte Carlo simulation results and
an experimental result are presented to verify the effectiveness of the
algorithm advocated.
Abstract: In this paper a new method for increasing the speed of
SAGCM-APD is proposed. Utilizing carrier rate equations in
different regions of the structure, a circuit model for the structure is
obtained. In this research, in addition to frequency response, the
effect of added new charge layer on some transient parameters like
slew-rate, rising and falling times have been considered. Finally, by
trading-off among some physical parameters such as different layers
widths and droppings, a noticeable decrease in breakdown voltage
has been achieved. The results of simulation, illustrate some features
of proposed structure improvement in comparison with conventional
SAGCM-APD structures.
Abstract: In composting process, N high-organic wastes loss the
great part of its nitrogen as ammonia; therefore, using compost
amendments can promote the quality of compost due to the decrease
in ammonia volatilization. With regard to the effect of pH on
composting, microorganisms- activity and ammonia volatilization,
sulfuric acid and alkaline wastewater of paper mill (as liming agent
with Ca and Mg ions) were used as compost amendments. Study
results indicated that these amendments are suitable for reclamation
of compost quality properties. These held nitrogen in compost caused
to reduce C/N ratio. Both amendments had a significant effect on
total nitrogen, but it should be used sulfuric acid in fewer amounts
(20 ml/kg fresh organic wastes); and the more amounts of acid is not
proposed.

Abstract: The objective of this work is to investigate the
turbulent reacting flow in a three dimensional combustor with
emphasis on the effect of inlet swirl flow through a numerical
simulation. Flow field is analyzed using the SIMPLE method which is
known as stable as well as accurate in the combustion modeling, and
the finite volume method is adopted in solving the radiative transfer
equation. In this work, the thermal and flow characteristics in a three
dimensional combustor by changing parameters such as equivalence
ratio and inlet swirl angle have investigated. As the equivalence ratio
increases, which means that more fuel is supplied due to a larger inlet
fuel velocity, the flame temperature increases and the location of
maximum temperature has moved towards downstream. In the mean
while, the existence of inlet swirl velocity makes the fuel and
combustion air more completely mixed and burnt in short distance.
Therefore, the locations of the maximum reaction rate and temperature
were shifted to forward direction compared with the case of no swirl.
