Abstract: Locality Sensitive Hashing (LSH) is one of the most
promising techniques for solving nearest neighbour search problem in
high dimensional space. Euclidean LSH is the most popular variation
of LSH that has been successfully applied in many multimedia
applications. However, the Euclidean LSH presents limitations that
affect structure and query performances. The main limitation of the
Euclidean LSH is the large memory consumption. In order to achieve
a good accuracy, a large number of hash tables is required. In this
paper, we propose a new hashing algorithm to overcome the storage
space problem and improve query time, while keeping a good
accuracy as similar to that achieved by the original Euclidean LSH.
The Experimental results on a real large-scale dataset show that the
proposed approach achieves good performances and consumes less
memory than the Euclidean LSH.
Abstract: This paper covers various aspects of film piracy over the Internet. In order to successfully deal with this matter, it is needed to recognize motivational factors related to film piracy. Thus, this study discusses group factors that could motivate individuals to engage in pirate activities. Furthermore, the paper discusses the theoretical effect on box office revenues and explains it on a proposed scheme of solutions for decreasing revenues. The article also maps the scheme of incentive motivational anti-piracy campaigns. Moreover, the paper proposes the preliminary scheme for system dynamic modeling of the Internet film piracy. Scheme is developed as a model of behaviors, influences and relations among the elements pertaining to the Internet film piracy.
Abstract: Market segmentation is one of the most
fundamental strategic marketing concepts. The better the
segment which is chosen for targeting by a particular
organisation, the more successful the organisation is assumed to
be in the marketplace. Also higher education institutions have to
improve their marketing tools for attracting foreign students,
particularly when demanding tuition fees. This contribution
aims at demonstrating the proper usage of the cluster analysis
for segmentation (represented by students' willingness to study
abroad) and also, based on large international survey, offers
some practical marketing implications.
Abstract: Ti-6Al-4V alloy has demonstrated a high strength to
weight ratio as well as good properties at high temperature. The
successful application of the alloy in some important areas depends
on suitable joining techniques. Friction welding has many
advantageous features to be chosen for joining Titanium alloys. The
present work investigates the feasibility of producing similar metal
joints of this Titanium alloy by rotary friction welding method. The
joints are produced at three different speeds and the performances of
the welded joints are evaluated by conducting microstructure studies,
Vickers Hardness and tensile tests at the joints. It is found that the
weld joints produced are sound and the ductile fractures in the tensile
weld specimens occur at locations away from the welded joints. It is
also found that a rotational speed of 1500 RPM can produce a very
good weld, with other parameters kept constant.
Abstract: Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) have been used successfully in many scientific, industrial and business domains as a method for extracting knowledge from vast amounts of data. However the use of ANN techniques in the sporting domain has been limited. In professional sport, data is stored on many aspects of teams, games, training and players. Sporting organisations have begun to realise that there is a wealth of untapped knowledge contained in the data and there is great interest in techniques to utilise this data. This study will use player data from the elite Australian Football League (AFL) competition to train and test ANNs with the aim to predict the onset of injuries. The results demonstrate that an accuracy of 82.9% was achieved by the ANNs’ predictions across all examples with 94.5% of all injuries correctly predicted. These initial findings suggest that ANNs may have the potential to assist sporting clubs in the prediction of injuries.
Abstract: In recent years, “Bottom-up Planning Approach" has been widely accepted and expanded from planning theorists. Citizen participation becomes more important in decision-making in informal settlements. Many of previous projects and strategies due to ignorance of citizen participation, have been failed facing with informal settlements and in some cases lead physical expansion of these neighbourhoods. According to recent experiences, the new participatory approach was in somehow successful. This paper focuses on local experiences in Iran. A considerable amount of people live in informal settlements in Iran. With the previous methods, the government could not solve the problems of these settlements. It is time to examine new methods such as empowerment of the local citizens and involve them to solve the current physical, social, and economic problems. The paper aims to address the previous and new strategies facing with informal settlements, the conditions under which citizens could be involved in planning process, limits and potentials of this process, the main actors and issues and finally motivations that are able to promote citizen participation. Documentary studies, observation, interview and questionnaire have been used to achieve the above mentioned objectives. Nearly 80 percent of responder in Saadi Community are ready to participate in regularising their neighbourhoods, if pre-conditions of citizen involvement are being provided. These pre-conditions include kind of problem and its severity, the importance of issue, existence of a short-term solution, etc. Moreover, confirmation of dweller-s ownership can promote the citizen engagement in participatory projects.
Abstract: We consider here the subsonic impinging jet
representing the flow field of a vertical take-off aircraft or the initial
stage of rocket launching. Implicit Large-Eddy Simulation (ILES) is
used to calculate the time-dependent flow field and the radiate sound
pressure associated with jet impinging. With proper boundary
treatments and high-order numerical scheme, the near field sound
pressure is successfully obtained. Results are presented for both a
rectangular as well a circular jet.
Abstract: Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCMs) have successfully
been applied in numerous domains to show relations between
essential components. In some FCM, there are more nodes, which
related to each other and more nodes means more complex in system
behaviors and analysis. In this paper, a novel learning method used to
construct FCMs based on historical data and by using data mining
and DEMATEL method, a new method defined to reduce nodes
number. This method cluster nodes in FCM based on their cause and
effect behaviors.
Abstract: This paper presents a robust proportionalderivative
(PD) based cerebellar model articulation
controller (CMAC) for vertical take-off and landing flight
control systems. Successful on-line training and recalling
process of CMAC accompanying the PD controller is
developed. The advantage of the proposed method is mainly
the robust tracking performance against aerodynamic
parametric variation and external wind gust. The
effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is validated through
the application of a vertical takeoff and landing aircraft
control system.
Abstract: In this article the influence of higher frequency effects
in addition to a special damper design on the electrical behavior of a
synchronous generator main exciter machine is investigated. On the
one hand these machines are often highly stressed by harmonics from
the bridge rectifier thus facing additional eddy current losses. On the
other hand the switching may cause the excitation of dangerous
voltage peaks in resonant circuits formed by the diodes of the
rectifier and the commutation reactance of the machine. Therefore
modern rotating exciters are treated like synchronous generators
usually modeled with a second order equivalent circuit. Hence the
well known Standstill Frequency Response Test (SSFR) method is
applied to a test machine in order to determine parameters for the
simulation. With these results it is clearly shown that higher
frequencies have a strong impact on the conventional equivalent
circuit model. Because of increasing field displacement effects in the
stranded armature winding the sub-transient reactance is even smaller
than the armature leakage at high frequencies. As a matter of fact this
prevents the algorithm to find an equivalent scheme. This issue is
finally solved using Laplace transfer functions fully describing the
transient behavior at the model ports.
Abstract: This paper presents an integrated model that
automatically measures the change of rivers, damage area of bridge
surroundings, and change of vegetation. The proposed model is on the
basis of a neurofuzzy mechanism enhanced by SOM optimization
algorithm, and also includes three functions to deal with river imagery.
High resolution imagery from FORMOSAT-2 satellite taken before
and after the invasion period is adopted. By randomly selecting a
bridge out of 129 destroyed bridges, the recognition results show that
the average width has increased 66%. The ruined segment of the
bridge is located exactly at the most scour region. The vegetation
coverage has also reduced to nearly 90% of the original. The results
yielded from the proposed model demonstrate a pinpoint accuracy rate
at 99.94%. This study brings up a successful tool not only for
large-scale damage assessment but for precise measurement to
disasters.
Abstract: Human genome is not only the evolutionary
summation of all advantageous events, but also houses lesions of
deleterious foot prints. A single gene mutation sometimes may
express multiple consequences in numerous tissues and a linear
relationship of the genotype and the phenotype may often be obscure.
ß Thalassemia minor, a transfusion independent mild anaemia,
coupled with environment among other factors may articulate into
phenotypic pleotropy with Hypocholesterolemia, Vitamin D
deficiency, Tissue hypoxia, Hyper-parathyroidism and Psychological
alterations. Occurrence of Pancreatic insufficiency, resultant
steatorrhoea, Vitamin-D (25-OH) deficiency (13.86 ngm/ml) with
Hypocholesterolemia (85mg/dl) in a 30 years old male ß Thal-minor
patient (Hemoglobin 11mg/dl with Fetal Hemoglobin 2.10%, Hb A2
4.60% and Hb Adult 84.80% and altered Hemogram) with increased
Para thyroid hormone (62 pg/ml) & moderate Serum Ca+2
(9.5mg/ml) indicate towards a cascade of phenotypic pleotropy
where the ß Thalassemia mutation ,be it in the 5’ cap site of the
mRNA , differential splicing etc in heterozygous state is effecting
several metabolic pathways. Compensatory extramedulary
hematopoiesis may not coped up well with the stressful life style of
the young individual and increased erythropoietic stress with high
demand for cholesterol for RBC membrane synthesis may have
resulted in Hypocholesterolemia.Oxidative stress and tissue hypoxia
may have caused the pancreatic insufficiency, leading to Vitamin D
deficiency. This may in turn have caused the secondary
hyperparathyroidism to sustain serum Calcium level. Irritability and
stress intolerance of the patient was a cumulative effect of the vicious
cycle of metabolic compromises. From these findings we propose
that the metabolic deficiencies in the ß Thalassemia mutations may
be considered as the phenotypic display of the pleotropy to explain
the genetic epidemiology.
According to the recommendations from the NIH Workshop on
Gene-Environment Interplay in Common Complex Diseases: Forging
an Integrative Model, study design of observations should be
informed by gene-environment hypotheses and results of a study
(genetic diseases) should be published to inform future hypotheses.
Variety of approaches is needed to capture data on all possible
aspects, each of which is likely to contribute to the etiology of
disease. Speakers also agreed that there is a need for development of
new statistical methods and measurement tools to appraise
information that may be missed out by conventional method where
large sample size is needed to segregate considerable effect.
A meta analytic cohort study in future may bring about significant

Abstract: The objective of this paper is twofold: (1) discuss and

Abstract: The physical methods for RNA secondary structure prediction are time consuming and expensive, thus methods for computational prediction will be a proper alternative. Various algorithms have been used for RNA structure prediction including dynamic programming and metaheuristic algorithms. Musician's behaviorinspired harmony search is a recently developed metaheuristic algorithm which has been successful in a wide variety of complex optimization problems. This paper proposes a harmony search algorithm (HSRNAFold) to find RNA secondary structure with minimum free energy and similar to the native structure. HSRNAFold is compared with dynamic programming benchmark mfold and metaheuristic algorithms (RnaPredict, SetPSO and HelixPSO). The results showed that HSRNAFold is comparable to mfold and better than metaheuristics in finding the minimum free energies and the number of correct base pairs.
Abstract: Three similar negative differential resistance (NDR)
profiles with both high peak to valley current density ratio (PVCDR)
value and high peak current density (PCD) value in unity resonant
tunneling electronic circuit (RTEC) element is developed in this paper.
The PCD values and valley current density (VCD) values of the three
NDR curves are all about 3.5 A and 0.8 A, respectively. All PV values
of NDR curves are 0.40 V, 0.82 V, and 1.35 V, respectively. The VV
values are 0.61 V, 1.07 V, and 1.69 V, respectively. All PVCDR
values reach about 4.4 in three NDR curves. The PCD value of 3.5 A
in triple PVCDR RTEC element is better than other resonant
tunneling devices (RTD) elements. The high PVCDR value is
concluded the lower VCD value about 0.8 A. The low VCD value is
achieved by suitable selection of resistors in triple PVCDR RTEC
element. The low PV value less than 1.35 V possesses low power
dispersion in triple PVCDR RTEC element. The designed multiple
value logical level (MVLL) system using triple PVCDR RTEC
element provides equidistant logical level. The logical levels of
MVLL system are about 0.2 V, 0.8 V, 1.5 V, and 2.2 V from low
voltage to high voltage and then 2.2 V, 1.3 V, 0.8 V, and 0.2 V from
high voltage back to low voltage in half cycle of sinusoid wave. The
output level of four levels MVLL system is represented in 0.3 V, 1.1 V,
1.7 V, and 2.6 V, which satisfies the NMP condition of traditional
two-bit system. The remarkable logical characteristic of improved
MVLL system with paralleled capacitor are with four significant
stable logical levels about 220 mV, 223 mV, 228 mV, and 230 mV.
The stability and articulation of logical levels of improved MVLL
system are outstanding. The average holding time of improved MVLL
system is approximately 0.14 μs. The holding time of improved
MVLL system is fourfold than of basic MVLL system. The function of
additional capacitor in the improved MVLL system is successfully
discovered.
Abstract: In the meat processing industry the substitution of
meat with non-meat ingredients is considered an important strategy
for reducing overall production costs. The main purpose of the
current research was to evaluate differences in physical-chemical
composition of cooked sausage with different legumes additions.
Peas (Pisum sativum), beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) and lentil (Lens
culinaris) were used in preparation of sausages. The legumes at
proportion of 20% of the total weight of meat were added in
sausages. The whole ingredients were mixed, filled into casing,
compressed, cooked and cooled. After storage the samples were
sensory evaluated. The sensory evaluation was carried out using the
nine point hedonic scale and line scale. Sausages without legumes
flour was used as control sample. The main conclusion of the current
research the legumes flour can be successfully used for cooked
sausages production.
Abstract: In the article the experience of principle new
technology development of ethnopsychological experiment on the
basis of using other virtual independent experimental variables is
presented. It is shown that ethnic prejudices are the result of forming
and development of specific semantic barriers, arising up in the
conditions of interethnic co-operation and people-s communication.

Abstract: The improvement of irrigation systems in the Nile
Delta is one of the most important attempts in Egypt to implement
more effective irrigation technology by improving the existing
irrigation networks. Demand delivery system in the existing irrigation
network is using of mechanical gates structures to automatically
divert water from one portion of an agricultural field to another in the
desired amount and sequence. This paper discusses evaluating main
irrigation networks system under the government managed before
and after improvement systems in the Nile Delta. The overall results
indicate that policy of using the demand delivery concept through
irrigation networks is successful by improving water delivery
performance among them than the rotation delivery concept that used
before. It is provided fair share of water delivery among irrigation
districts and available water in the end of irrigation network,
although this system located in an end of irrigation networks in the
Nile Delta.
Abstract: An ordered porous antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) film was successfully prepared using a simple coating process with colloidal templates. The facile production was effective when a combination of 16-nm ATO (as a model of an inorganic nanoparticle) and polystyrene (PS) spheres (as a model of the template) weresimply coated to produce a composite ATO/PS film. Heat treatment was then used to remove the PS and produce the porous film. The porous film with a spherical pore shape and a highly ordered porous structure could be obtained. A potential way for the control of pore size could be also achieved by changing initial template size. The theoretical explanation and mechanism of porous formation were also added, which would be important for the scaling-up prediction and estimation.
Abstract: Principally, plants grown in soilless culture may be
attacked by the same pests and diseases as cultivated traditionally in
soil. The most destructive phytopathogens are fungi, such as
Phythium, Phytophthora and Fusarium, followed by viruses, bacteria
and nematodes. We investigated effect of carbon nanotube filters on
disease management of soilless culture. Tomato seedlings transplant
in plastic pots filled with a soilless media of vermiculite. The crop
irrigated and fertilized using a hydroponic nutrient solution. We used
carbon nanotube filters for nutrient solution disinfection. Our results
show that carbon nanotube filtration significantly reduces pathogens
on tomato plants. Fungal elimination (Fusarium oxysporum and
Pythium spp.) was usually successful at about 96 to 99.9% all over
the cultural season. It is seem that in tomato soilless culture,
nanofiltration constitutes a reliable method that allows control of the
development of diseases caused by pathogenic fungi
