Abstract: Air conditioning systems of houses consume large
quantity of electricity. To reducing energy consumption for air
conditioning purposes it is becoming attractive the use of evaporative
cooling air conditioning which is less energy consuming compared to
air chillers. But, it is obvious that higher energy efficiency of
evaporative cooling is not enough to judge whether evaporative
cooling economically is competitive with other types of cooling
systems. To proving the higher energy efficiency and cost
effectiveness of the evaporative cooling competitive analysis of
various types of cooling system should be accomplished. For noted
purpose optimization mathematical model for each system should be
composed based on system approach analysis. In this paper different
types of evaporative cooling-heating systems are discussed and
methods for increasing their energy efficiency and as well as
determining of their design parameters are developed. The
optimization mathematical models for each of them are composed
with help of which least specific costs for each of them are reviled.
The comparison of specific costs proved that the most efficient and
cost effective is considered the “direct evaporating" system if it is
applicable for given climatic conditions. Next more universal and
applicable for many climatic conditions system providing least cost
of heating and cooling is considered the “direct evaporating" system.
Abstract: Globalization and therefore increasing tight competition among companies, have resulted to increase the importance of making well-timed decision. Devising and employing effective strategies, that are flexible and adaptive to changing market, stand a greater chance of being effective in the long-term. In other side, a clear focus on managing the entire product lifecycle has emerged as critical areas for investment. Therefore, applying wellorganized tools to employ past experience in new case, helps to make proper and managerial decisions. Case based reasoning (CBR) is based on a means of solving a new problem by using or adapting solutions to old problems. In this paper, an adapted CBR model with k-nearest neighbor (K-NN) is employed to provide suggestions for better decision making which are adopted for a given product in the middle of life phase. The set of solutions are weighted by CBR in the principle of group decision making. Wrapper approach of genetic algorithm is employed to generate optimal feature subsets. The dataset of the department store, including various products which are collected among two years, have been used. K-fold approach is used to evaluate the classification accuracy rate. Empirical results are compared with classical case based reasoning algorithm which has no special process for feature selection, CBR-PCA algorithm based on filter approach feature selection, and Artificial Neural Network. The results indicate that the predictive performance of the model, compare with two CBR algorithms, in specific case is more effective.
Abstract: The success of IT-projects concerning the
implementation of business application Software is strongly
depending upon the application of an efficient requirements
management, to understand the business requirements and to realize
them in the IT. But in fact, the Potentials of the requirements
management are not fully exhausted by small and medium sized
enterprises (SME) of the IT sector. To work out recommendations for
action and furthermore a possible solution, allowing a better exhaust
of potentials, it shall be examined in a scientific research project,
which problems occur out of which causes. In the same place, the
storage of knowledge from the requirements management, and its
later reuse are important, to achieve sustainable improvements of the
competitive of the IT-SMEs. Requirements Engineering is one of the
most important topics in Product Management for Software to
achieve the goal of optimizing the success of the software product.
Abstract: Photo-crosslinked rice starch-based biodegradable
films were prepared by casting film-solution on leveled trays and
ultra violet (UV) irradiation was applied for 10 minute. The effect of
the content (3%, 6% and 9 wt. %)of photosensitiser (sodium
benzoate) on mechanical properties, water vapor permeability (WVP)
and structural properties of rice starch films were investigated. The
tensile strength increased while elongation at break and water
resistance properties of rice starch films decreased with addition and
increasing content of photosensitiser. The % crystallinity of rice
starch films were decreased when the content of photosensitiser
increased and UV were applied. The results showed that the
carboxylate group band of sodium benzoate was found in the FTIR
spectrum of rice starch films and found that incorporation of 6% of
photosensitiser into the films showed a higher absorption band of
resulted films. This result pointed out the highest interaction between
starch molecules was occurred.
Abstract: The gases generated in oil filled transformers can be
used for qualitative determination of incipient faults. The Dissolved
Gas Analysis has been widely used by utilities throughout the world
as the primarily diagnostic tool for transformer maintenance. In this
paper, various Artificial Intelligence Techniques that have been used
by the researchers in the past have been reviewed, some conclusions
have been drawn and a sequential hybrid system has been proposed.
The synergy of ANN and FIS can be a good solution for reliable
results for predicting faults because one should not rely on a single
technology when dealing with real–life applications.
Abstract: The aim of this research is to determine how preservice Turkish teachers perceive themselves in terms of problem solving skills. Students attending Department of Turkish Language Teaching of Gazi University Education Faculty in 2005-2006 academic year constitute the study group (n= 270) of this research in which survey model was utilized. Data were obtained by Problem Solving Inventory developed by Heppner & Peterson and Personal Information Form. Within the settings of this research, Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale was found as .87. Besides, reliability coefficient obtained by split-half technique which splits odd and even numbered items of the scale was found as r=.81 (Split- Half Reliability). The findings of the research revealed that preservice Turkish teachers were sufficiently qualified on the subject of problem solving skills and statistical significance was found in favor of male candidates in terms of “gender" variable. According to the “grade" variable, statistical significance was found in favor of 4th graders.
Abstract: The construction of a civil structure inside a urban
area inevitably modifies the outdoor microclimate at the building
site. Wind speed, wind direction, air pollution, driving rain, radiation
and daylight are some of the main physical aspects that are subjected
to the major changes. The quantitative amount of these modifications
depends on the shape, size and orientation of the building and on its
interaction with the surrounding environment. The flow field over a
flat roof model building has been numerically investigated in order to
determine two-dimensional CFD guidelines for the calculation of the
turbulent flow over a structure immersed in an atmospheric boundary
layer. To this purpose, a complete validation campaign has been
performed through a systematic comparison of numerical simulations
with wind tunnel experimental data.Several turbulence models and
spatial node distributions have been tested for five different vertical
positions, respectively from the upstream leading edge to the
downstream bottom edge of the analyzed model. Flow field
characteristics in the neighborhood of the building model have been
numerically investigated, allowing a quantification of the capabilities
of the CFD code to predict the flow separation and the extension of
the recirculation regions. The proposed calculations have allowed the
development of a preliminary procedure to be used as a guidance in
selecting the appropriate grid configuration and corresponding
turbulence model for the prediction of the flow field over a twodimensional
roof architecture dominated by flow separation.
Abstract: In recent years, the number of natural disasters in Laos has a trend to increase, especially the disaster of flood. To make a flood plan risk management in the future, it is necessary to understand and analyze the characteristics of the rainfall and Mekong River level data. To reduce the damage, this paper presents the flood risk analysis in Luangprabang and Vientiane, the prefecture of Laos. In detail, the relationship between the rainfall and the Mekong River level has evaluated and appropriate countermeasure for flood was discussed.
Abstract: The morphology, mineralogical and chemical
composition of a low-grade nickel ore from Mpumalanga, South
Africa, were studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray
diffraction (XRD) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF), respectively. The
ore was subjected to atmospheric agitation leaching using sulphuric
acid to investigate the effects of acid concentration, leaching
temperature, leaching time and particle size on extraction of nickel
and cobalt. Analyses results indicated the ore to be a saprolitic nickel
laterite belonging to the serpentine group of minerals. Sulphuric acid
was found to be able to extract nickel from the ore. Increased acid
concentration and temperature only produced low amounts of nickel
but improved cobalt extraction. As high as 77.44% Ni was achieved
when leaching a -106+75μm fraction with 4.0M acid concentration at
25oC. The kinetics of nickel leaching from the saprolitic ore were
studied and the activation energy was determined to be 18.16kJ/mol.
This indicated that nickel leaching reaction was diffusion controlled.
Abstract: The intrusion detection problem has been frequently studied, but intrusion detection methods are often based on a single point of view, which always limits the results. In this paper, we introduce a new intrusion detection model based on the combination of different current methods. First we use a notion of distance to unify the different methods. Second we combine these methods using the Pearson correlation coefficients, which measure the relationship between two methods, and we obtain a combined distance. If the combined distance is greater than a predetermined threshold, an intrusion is detected. We have implemented and tested the combination model with two different public data sets: the data set of masquerade detection collected by Schonlau & al., and the data set of program behaviors from the University of New Mexico. The results of the experiments prove that the combination model has better performances.
Abstract: In this paper, fully developed flow and heat transfer of
viscoelastic materials in curved ducts with square cross section under
constant heat flux have been investigated. Here, staggered mesh is
used as computational grids and flow and heat transfer parameters
have been allocated in this mesh with marker and cell method.
Numerical solution of governing equations has being performed with
FTCS finite difference method. Furthermore, Criminale-Eriksen-
Filbey (CEF) constitutive equation has being used as viscoelastic
model. CEF constitutive equation is a suitable model for studying
steady shear flow of viscoelastic materials which is able to model
both effects of the first and second normal stress differences. Here, it
is shown that the first and second normal stresses differences have
noticeable and inverse effect on secondary flows intensity and mean
Nusselt number which is the main novelty of current research.
Abstract: Potatoes are a good source of carotenoids, which are lipophilic compounds synthesized in plastids from isoprenoids. The aim of this research was to determine the content of carotenoids in relationship with the colour of organically and conventionally cultivated potato genotypes before and after period of storage. In cooperation with the State Priekuli Plant Breeding Institute (Latvia), six potato genotypes were studied: 'Agrie dzeltenie', 'Prelma', 'Imanta', 'S-03135-10', 'S-99108-8' and 'S-01063-5'. All the genotypes were cultivated under three different conditions: organically and conventionally (two conditions). The content of carotenoids was determined by using spectrophotometer and the colour – L*a*b* system. The results of current research show that after the period of storage, carotenoid amount has increased and in conventionally cultivated potatoes it varies from 228.514 to 552.434 μg 100 g-1 while in organically cultivated potato genotypes – from 45.485 to 662.699 μg 100 g-1 FW. Colour of potato flesh was changing during storage.
Abstract: A property is persistent if for any many-sorted term rewriting system , has the property if and only if term rewriting system , which results from by omitting its sort information, has the property. Zantema showed that termination is persistent for term rewriting systems without collapsing or duplicating rules. In this paper, we show that the Zantema's result can be extended to term rewriting systems on ordered sorts, i.e., termination is persistent for term rewriting systems on ordered sorts without collapsing, decreasing or duplicating rules. Furthermore we give the example as application of this result. Also we obtain that completeness is persistent for this class of term rewriting systems.
Abstract: This paper reports a new pattern recognition approach for face recognition. The biological model of light receptors - cones and rods in human eyes and the way they are associated with pattern vision in human vision forms the basis of this approach. The functional model is simulated using CWD and WPD. The paper also discusses the experiments performed for face recognition using the features extracted from images in the AT & T face database. Artificial Neural Network and k- Nearest Neighbour classifier algorithms are employed for the recognition purpose. A feature vector is formed for each of the face images in the database and recognition accuracies are computed and compared using the classifiers. Simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms traditional way of feature extraction methods prevailing for pattern recognition in terms of recognition accuracy for face images with pose and illumination variations.
Abstract: Ground-source heat pumps achieve higher efficiencies
than conventional air-source heat pumps because they exchange heat
with the ground that is cooler in summer and hotter in winter than the
air environment. Earth heat exchangers are essential parts of the
ground-source heat pumps and the accurate prediction of their
performance is of fundamental importance. This paper presents the
development and validation of a numerical model through an
incompressible fluid flow, for the simulation of energy and
temperature changes in and around a U-tube borehole heat
exchanger. The FlexPDE software is used to solve the resulting
simultaneous equations that model the heat exchanger. The validated
model (through a comparison with experimental data) is then used to
extract conclusions on how various parameters like the U-tube
diameter, the variation of the ground thermal conductivity and
specific heat and the borehole filling material affect the temperature
of the fluid.
Abstract: Phytases are acid phosphatase enzymes, which
efficiently cleave phosphate moieties from phytic acid, thereby
generating myo-inositol and inorganic phosphate. Thirty four
isolates of endophytic fungi to produce of phytases were isolated
from leaf, stem and root fragments of soybean. Screening of 34
isolates of endophytic fungi identified the phytases produced by
Rhizoctonia sp. and Fusarium verticillioides . The phytase
production were the best induced by phytic acid and rice bran
compared the others inducer in submerged fermentation medium
used. The phytase produced by both Rhizoctonia sp. and F.
verticillioides have pH optimum at 4.0 and 5.0 respectively. The
characterization of phytase from Fusarium verticillioides showed that
temperature optimum was 500C and stability until 600C, the pH
optimum 5.0 and pH stability was 2.5 – 6.0, and substrate specificity
were rice bran>soybean meal>corn> coconut cake, respectively.
Abstract: Artificial Immune System is applied as a Heuristic
Algorithm for decades. Nevertheless, many of these applications
took advantage of the benefit of this algorithm but seldom proposed
approaches for enhancing the efficiency. In this paper, a
Self-evolving Artificial Immune System is proposed via developing
the T and B cell in Immune System and built a self-evolving
mechanism for the complexities of different problems. In this
research, it focuses on enhancing the efficiency of Clonal selection
which is responsible for producing Affinities to resist the invading of
Antigens. T and B cell are the main mechanisms for Clonal
Selection to produce different combinations of Antibodies.
Therefore, the development of T and B cell will influence the
efficiency of Clonal Selection for searching better solution.
Furthermore, for better cooperation of the two cells, a co-evolutional
strategy is applied to coordinate for more effective productions of
Antibodies. This work finally adopts Flow-shop scheduling
instances in OR-library to validate the proposed algorithm.
Abstract: In this work, we consider a deterministic model for
the transmission of leptospirosis which is currently spreading in the
Thai population. The SIR model which incorporates the features of
this disease is applied to the epidemiological data in Thailand. It is
seen that the numerical solutions of the SIR equations are in good
agreement with real empirical data. Further improvements are
discussed.
Abstract: In the age of global communications, heterogeneous
networks are seen to be the best choice of strategy to ensure continuous and uninterruptible services. This will allow mobile
terminal to stay in connection even they are migrating into different segment coverage through the handoff process. With the increase of
teletraffic demands in mobile cellular system, hierarchical cellular systems have been adopted extensively for more efficient channel
utilization and better QoS (Quality of Service). This paper presents a
bidirectional call overflow scheme between two layers of microcells and macrocells, where handoffs are decided by the velocity of mobile
making the call. To ensure that handoff calls are given higher priorities, it is assumed that guard channels are assigned in both
macrocells and microcells. A hysteresis value introduced in mobile velocity is used to allow mobile roam in the same cell if its velocity
changes back within the set threshold values. By doing this the number of handoffs is reduced thereby reducing the processing overhead and enhancing the quality of service to the end user.
Abstract: This paper made an attempt to investigate the problem associated with enhancement of emulsions of light crude oil-water recovery in an oil field of Algerian Sahara. Measurements were taken through experiments using RheoStress (RS600). Factors such as shear rate, temperature and light oil concentration on the viscosity behavior were considered. Experimental measurements were performed in terms of shear stress–shear rate, yield stress and flow index on mixture of light crude oil–water. The rheological behavior of emulsion showed Non-Newtonian shear thinning behavior (Herschel-Bulkley). The experiments done in the laboratory showed the stability of some water in light crude oil emulsions form during consolidate oil recovery process. To break the emulsion using additives may involve higher cost and could be very expensive. Therefore, further research should be directed to find solution of these problems that have been encountered.
