Abstract: In this work, biohydrogen production via dark
fermentation from alcohol wastewater using upflow anaerobic sludge
blanket reactors (UASB) with a working volume of 4 L was
investigated to find the optimum conditions for a maximum hydrogen
yield. The system was operated at different COD loading rates (23,
31, 46 and 62 kg/m3d) at mesophilic temperature (37 ºC) and pH 5.5.
The seed sludge was pretreated before being fed to the UASB system
by boiling at 95 ºC for 15 min. When the system was operated under
the optimum COD loading rate of 46 kg/m3d, it provided the
hydrogen content of 27%, hydrogen yield of 125.1 ml H2/g COD
removed and 95.1 ml H2/g COD applied, hydrogen production rate of
18 l/d, specific hydrogen production rate of 1080 ml H2/g MLVSS d
and 1430 ml H2/ L d, and COD removal of 24%.
Abstract: The flow filed around a flatted-roof compound has
been investigated by means of 2D and 3D numerical simulations. A
constant wind velocity profile, based both on the maximum reference
wind speed in the building site (peak gust speed worked out for a 50-
year return period) and on the local roughness coefficient, has been
simulated in order to determine the wind-induced loads on top of the
roof. After determining the influence of the incoming wind directions
on the induced roof loads, a 2D analysis of the most severe load
condition has been performed, achieving a numerical quantification
of the expected wind-induced forces on the PV panels on top of the
roof.
Abstract: In this work a visual and reactive contour following
behaviour is learned by reinforcement. With artificial vision the
environment is perceived in 3D, and it is possible to avoid obstacles
that are invisible to other sensors that are more common in mobile
robotics. Reinforcement learning reduces the need for intervention in
behaviour design, and simplifies its adjustment to the environment,
the robot and the task. In order to facilitate its generalisation to other
behaviours and to reduce the role of the designer, we propose a
regular image-based codification of states. Even though this is much
more difficult, our implementation converges and is robust. Results
are presented with a Pioneer 2 AT on a Gazebo 3D simulator.
Abstract: A new hybrid method to realise high-precision
distortion determination for optical ultra-precision 3D measurement
systems based on stereo cameras using active light projection is
introduced. It consists of two phases: the basic distortion
determination and the refinement. The refinement phase of the
procedure uses a plane surface and projected fringe patterns as
calibration tools to determine simultaneously the distortion of both
cameras within an iterative procedure. The new technique may be
performed in the state of the device “ready for measurement" which
avoids errors by a later adjustment. A considerable reduction of
distortion errors is achieved and leads to considerable improvements
of the accuracy of 3D measurements, especially in the precise
measurement of smooth surfaces.
Abstract: The use of 3D computer-aided design (CAD) models
to support construction project planning has been increasing in the
previous year. 3D CAD models reveal more planning ideas by
visually showing the construction site environment in different stages
of the construction process. Using 3D CAD models together with
scheduling software to prepare construction plan can identify errors
in process sequence and spatial arrangement, which is vital to the
success of a construction project. A number of 4D (3D plus time)
CAD tools has been developed and utilized in different construction
projects due to the awareness of their importance. Virtual prototyping
extends the idea of 4D CAD by integrating more features for
simulating real construction process. Virtual prototyping originates
from the manufacturing industry where production of products such
as cars and airplanes are virtually simulated in computer before they
are built in the factory. Virtual prototyping integrates 3D CAD,
simulation engine, analysis tools (like structural analysis and
collision detection), and knowledgebase to streamline the whole
product design and production process. In this paper, we present the
application of a virtual prototyping software which has been used in
a few construction projects in Hong Kong to support construction
project planning. Specifically, the paper presents an implementation
of virtual prototyping in a residential building project in Hong Kong.
The applicability, difficulties and benefits of construction virtual
prototyping are examined based on this project.
Abstract: This article deals with the numerical simulation of the
floor heating convector in 3D. Presented convector can operate in
two modes – cooling mode and heating mode. This initial numerical
simulation is focused on cooling mode of the convector. Models with
different temperature of the fins are compared and three various
shapes of the fins are examined as well. The objective of the work is
to predict air flow and heat transfer inside convector for further
optimalization of these devices. For the numerical simulation was
used commercial software Ansys Fluent.
Abstract: The paper presents a novel method for the 3D shaping
of different materials using a high-pressure abrasive water jet and a
flat target image. For steering movement process of the jet a principle
similar to raster image way of record and readout was used.
However, respective colors of pixel of such a bitmap are connected
with adequate jet feed rate that causes erosion of material with
adequate depth. Thanks to that innovation, one can observe spatial
imaging of the object. Theoretical basis as well as spatial model of
material shaping and experimental stand including steering program
are presented in. There are also presented methodic and some
experimental erosion results as well as practical example of object-s
bas-relief made of metal.
Abstract: In the last years numerous applications of Human-
Computer Interaction have exploited the capabilities of Time-of-
Flight cameras for achieving more and more comfortable and precise
interactions. In particular, gesture recognition is one of the most active
fields. This work presents a new method for interacting with a virtual
object in a 3D space. Our approach is based on the fusion of depth
data, supplied by a ToF camera, with color information, supplied
by a HD webcam. The hand detection procedure does not require
any learning phase and is able to concurrently manage gestures of
two hands. The system is robust to the presence in the scene of
other objects or people, thanks to the use of the Kalman filter for
maintaining the tracking of the hands.
Abstract: Dynamic of phytoplankton blooms in the Baltic Sea
has been analyzed applying the numerical ecosystem model 3D
CEMBS. The model consists of the hydrodynamic model (POP,
version 2.1) and the ice model (CICE, version 4.0), which are
imposed by the atmospheric data model (DATM7). The 3D
model has an ecosystem module, activated in 2012 in the operational
mode. The ecosystem model consists of 11 main variables: biomass
of small-size phytoplankton and large-size phytoplankton
and cyanobacteria, zooplankton biomass, dissolved and molecular
detritus, dissolved oxygen concentration, as well as concentrations of
nutrients, including: nitrates, ammonia, phosphates and silicates. The
3D-CEMBS model is an effective tool for solving problems related to
phytoplankton blooms dynamic in the Baltic Sea
Abstract: The electrolyte stirring method of anodization etching
process for manufacturing porous silicon (PS) is reported in this work.
Two experimental setups of nature air stirring (PS-ASM) and
electrolyte stirring (PS-ESM) are employed to clarify the influence of
stirring mechanisms on electrochemical etching process. Compared to
traditional fabrication without any stirring apparatus (PS-TM), a large
plateau region of PS surface structure is obtained from samples with
both stirring methods by the 3D-profiler measurement. Moreover, the
light emission response is also improved by both proposed electrolyte
stirring methods due to the cycling force in electrolyte could
effectively enhance etch-carrier distribution while the electrochemical
etching process is made. According to the analysis of statistical
calculation of photoluminescence (PL) intensity, lower standard
deviations are obtained from PS-samples with studied stirring methods,
i.e. the uniformity of PL-intensity is effectively improved. The
calculated deviations of PL-intensity are 93.2, 74.5 and 64,
respectively, for PS-TM, PS-ASM and PS-ESM.
Abstract: Among all mechanical joining processes, welding has
been employed for its advantage in design flexibility, cost saving,
reduced overall weight and enhanced structural performance.
However, for structures made of relatively thin components, welding
can introduce significant buckling distortion which causes loss of
dimensional control, structural integrity and increased fabrication
costs. Different parameters can affect buckling behavior of welded
thin structures such as, heat input, welding sequence, dimension of
structure. In this work, a 3-D thermo elastic-viscoplastic finite
element analysis technique is applied to evaluate the effect of shell
dimensions on buckling behavior and entropy generation of welded
thin shells. Also, in the present work, the approximated longitudinal
transient stresses which produced in each time step, is applied to the
3D-eigenvalue analysis to ratify predicted buckling time and
corresponding eigenmode. Besides, the possibility of buckling
prediction by entropy generation at each time is investigated and it is
found that one can predict time of buckling with drawing entropy
generation versus out of plane deformation. The results of finite
element analysis show that the length, span and thickness of welded
thin shells affect the number of local buckling, mode shape of global
buckling and post-buckling behavior of welded thin shells.
Abstract: With the development of ubiquitous computing,
current user interaction approaches with keyboard, mouse and pen
are not sufficient. Due to the limitation of these devices the useable
command set is also limited. Direct use of hands as an input device is
an attractive method for providing natural Human Computer
Interaction which has evolved from text-based interfaces through 2D
graphical-based interfaces, multimedia-supported interfaces, to fully
fledged multi-participant Virtual Environment (VE) systems.
Imagine the human-computer interaction of the future: A 3Dapplication
where you can move and rotate objects simply by moving
and rotating your hand - all without touching any input device. In this
paper a review of vision based hand gesture recognition is presented.
The existing approaches are categorized into 3D model based
approaches and appearance based approaches, highlighting their
advantages and shortcomings and identifying the open issues.
Abstract: In this work a dual laser triangulation system is presented for fast building of 2.5D textured models of objects within a production line. This scanner is designed to produce data suitable for 3D completeness inspection algorithms. For this purpose two laser projectors have been used in order to considerably reduce the problem of occlusions in the camera movement direction. Results of reconstruction of electronic boards are presented, together with a comparison with a commercial system.
Abstract: Due to the three- dimensional flow pattern interacting with bed material, the process of local scour around bridge piers is complex. Modeling 3D flow field and scour hole evolution around a bridge pier is more feasible nowadays because the computational cost and computational time have significantly decreased. In order to evaluate local flow and scouring around a bridge pier, a completely three-dimensional numerical model, SSIIM program, was used. The model solves 3-D Navier-Stokes equations and a bed load conservation equation. The model was applied to simulate local flow and scouring around a bridge pier in a large natural river with four piers. Computation for 1 day of flood condition was carried out to predict the maximum local scour depth. The results show that the SSIIM program can be used efficiently for simulating the scouring in natural rivers. The results also showed that among the various turbulence models, the k-ω model gives more reasonable results.
Abstract: Real-time hand tracking is a challenging task in many
computer vision applications such as gesture recognition. This paper
proposes a robust method for hand tracking in a complex environment
using Mean-shift analysis and Kalman filter in conjunction with 3D
depth map. The depth information solve the overlapping problem
between hands and face, which is obtained by passive stereo measuring
based on cross correlation and the known calibration data of
the cameras. Mean-shift analysis uses the gradient of Bhattacharyya
coefficient as a similarity function to derive the candidate of the hand
that is most similar to a given hand target model. And then, Kalman
filter is used to estimate the position of the hand target. The results
of hand tracking, tested on various video sequences, are robust to
changes in shape as well as partial occlusion.
Abstract: Increasing the demand for effectively use of the
production facility requires the tools for sharing the manufacturing
facility through remote operation of the machining process. This
research introduces the methodology of machining technology for
direct remote operation of networked milling machine. The
integrated tools with virtual simulation, remote desktop protocol and
Setup Free Attachment for remote operation of milling process are
proposed. Accessing and monitoring of machining operation is
performed by remote desktop interface and 3D virtual simulations.
Capability of remote operation is supported by an auto setup
attachment with a reconfigurable pin type setup free technology
installed on the table of CNC milling machine to perform unattended
machining process. The system is designed using a computer server
and connected to a PC based controlled CNC machine for real time
monitoring. A client will access the server through internet
communication and virtually simulate the machine activity. The
result has been presented that combination between real time virtual
simulation and remote desktop tool is enabling to operate all machine
tool functions and as well as workpiece setup..
Abstract: It is important to give input information without other device in AR system. One solution is using hand for augmented reality application. Many researchers have proposed different solutions for hand interface in augmented reality. Analyze Histogram and connecting factor is can be example for that. Various Direction searching is one of robust way to recognition hand but it takes too much calculating time. And background should be distinguished with skin color. This paper proposes a hand tracking method to control the 3D object in augmented reality using depth device and skin color. Also in this work discussed relationship between several markers, which is based on relationship between camera and marker. One marker used for displaying virtual object and three markers for detecting hand gesture and manipulating the virtual object.
Abstract: This paper presents the results of enhancing images from a left and right stereo pair in order to increase the resolution of a 3D representation of a scene generated from that same pair. A new neural network structure known as a Self Delaying Dynamic Network (SDN) has been used to perform the enhancement. The advantage of SDNs over existing techniques such as bicubic interpolation is their ability to cope with motion and noise effects. SDNs are used to generate two high resolution images, one based on frames taken from the left view of the subject, and one based on the frames from the right. This new high resolution stereo pair is then processed by a disparity map generator. The disparity map generated is compared to two other disparity maps generated from the same scene. The first is a map generated from an original high resolution stereo pair and the second is a map generated using a stereo pair which has been enhanced using bicubic interpolation. The maps generated using the SDN enhanced pairs match more closely the target maps. The addition of extra noise into the input images is less problematic for the SDN system which is still able to out perform bicubic interpolation.
Abstract: The aeration process via injectors is used to combat
the lack of oxygen in lakes due to eutrophication. A 3D numerical
simulation of the resulting flow using a simplified model is presented.
In order to generate the best dynamic in the fluid with respect to
the aeration purpose, the optimization of the injectors location is
considered. We propose to adapt to this problem the topological
sensitivity analysis method which gives the variation of a criterion
with respect to the creation of a small hole in the domain. The main
idea is to derive the topological sensitivity analysis of the physical
model with respect to the insertion of an injector in the fluid flow
domain. We propose in this work a topological optimization algorithm
based on the studied asymptotic expansion. Finally we present some
numerical results, showing the efficiency of our approach
Abstract: As the Computed Tomography(CT) requires normally
hundreds of projections to reconstruct the image, patients are exposed
to more X-ray energy, which may cause side effects such as cancer.
Even when the variability of the particles in the object is very less,
Computed Tomography requires many projections for good quality
reconstruction. In this paper, less variability of the particles in an
object has been exploited to obtain good quality reconstruction.
Though the reconstructed image and the original image have same
projections, in general, they need not be the same. In addition
to projections, if a priori information about the image is known,
it is possible to obtain good quality reconstructed image. In this
paper, it has been shown by experimental results why conventional
algorithms fail to reconstruct from a few projections, and an efficient
polynomial time algorithm has been given to reconstruct a bi-level
image from its projections along row and column, and a known sub
image of unknown image with smoothness constraints by reducing the
reconstruction problem to integral max flow problem. This paper also
discusses the necessary and sufficient conditions for uniqueness and
extension of 2D-bi-level image reconstruction to 3D-bi-level image
reconstruction.
