Abstract: In this paper we will consider the most known ratios
control schemes ((L/D, V/B),(L/D,V/F), Ryskamp-s, and
(D/(L+D),V/B)) for binary distillation column and we compare them
in the basis of interactions and disturbance propagation. The models
for these configurations are deuced using mathematical
transformations taking the energy balance structure (LV) as a base
model. The dynamic relative magnitude criterion (DRMC) is used to
assess the interactions. The results show that the introduction of
ratios in controlling the column tends to minimize the degree of
interactions between the loops.
Abstract: Hexapod Machine Tool (HMT) is a parallel robot
mostly based on Stewart platform. Identification of kinematic
parameters of HMT is an important step of calibration procedure. In
this paper an algorithm is presented for identifying the kinematic
parameters of HMT using inverse kinematics error model. Based on
this algorithm, the calibration procedure is simulated. Measurement
configurations with maximum observability are decided as the first
step of this algorithm for a robust calibration. The errors occurring in
various configurations are illustrated graphically. It has been shown
that the boundaries of the workspace should be searched for the
maximum observability of errors. The importance of using
configurations with sufficient observability in calibrating hexapod
machine tools is verified by trial calibration with two different
groups of randomly selected configurations. One group is selected to
have sufficient observability and the other is in disregard of the
observability criterion. Simulation results confirm the validity of the
proposed identification algorithm.
Abstract: Simulations of magnetic microstructure in elliptical
Permalloy elements used for controlled motion of magnetic particles
are discussed. The saturating field of the elliptical elements was
studied with respect to lateral dimensions for one-vortex, cross-tie,
diamond and double-diamond states as initial zero-field domain
configurations. With aspect ratio of 1:3 the short axis was varied
from 125 nm to 1000 nm, whereas the thickness was kept constant at
50 nm.
Abstract: Color printing proceeds with multiple halftone
separations overlay. Because of separation overlay misalignment in
printing, the percentage of different primary color combination may
vary and it will result in color shift. In traditional printing procedure
with AM halftone, every separation has different screening angle to
make the superposition pattern in a random style, which will reduce
the color shift. To evaluate the color shift of printing with hybrid
halftoning, we simulate printing procedure with halftone images
overlay and calculate the color difference between expected color and
color in different overlay misalignment configurations. The color
difference for hybrid halftone and AM halftone is very close. So the
color shift for hybrid halftone is acceptable with current color printing
procedure.
Abstract: The modified Claus process is commonly used in oil
refining and gas processing to recover sulfur and destroy
contaminants formed in upstream processing. A Claus furnace feed
containing a relatively low concentration of H2S may be incapable of
producing a stable flame. Also, incomplete combustion of
hydrocarbons in the feed can lead to deterioration of the catalyst in
the reactors due to soot or carbon deposition. Therefore, special
consideration is necessary to achieve the appropriate overall sulfur
recovery. In this paper, some configurations available to treat lean
acid gas streams are described and the most appropriate ones are
studied to overcome low H2S concentration problems. As a result,
overall sulfur recovery is investigated for feed preheating and hot gas
configurations.
Abstract: In intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
treatment planning, beam angles are usually preselected on the basis of
experience and intuition. Therefore, getting an appropriate beam
configuration needs a very long time. Based on the present situation,
the paper puts forward beam orientation optimization using ant colony
optimization (ACO). We use ant colony optimization to select the
beam configurations, after getting the beam configuration using
Conjugate Gradient (CG) algorithm to optimize the intensity profiles.
Combining with the information of the effect of pencil beam, we can
get the global optimal solution accelerating. In order to verify the
feasibility of the presented method, a simulated and clinical case was
tested, compared with dose-volume histogram and isodose line
between target area and organ at risk. The results showed that the
effect was improved after optimizing beam configurations. The
optimization approach could make treatment planning meet clinical
requirements more efficiently, so it had extensive application
perspective.
Abstract: In this work, we analyze the deformation of surface
waves in shallow flows conditions, propagating in a channel of
slowly varying cross-section. Based on a singular perturbation
technique, the main purpose is to predict the motion of waves by
using a dimensionless formulation of the governing equations,
considering that the longitudinal variation of the transversal section
obey a power-law distribution. We show that the spatial distribution
of the waves in the varying cross-section is a function of a kinematic
parameter,κ , and two geometrical parameters εh
and w ε . The above
spatial behavior of the surface elevation is modeled by an ordinary
differential equation. The use of single formulas to model the varying
cross sections or transitions considered in this work can be a useful
approximation to natural or artificial geometrical configurations.
Abstract: This paper presents a numerical analysis of the
performance of a five-bladed Darrieus vertical-axis water turbine,
based on the NACA 0025 blade profile, for both bare and shrouded
configurations. A complete campaign of 2-D simulations, performed
for several values of tip speed ratio and based on RANS unsteady
calculations, has been performed to obtain the rotor torque and power
curves. Also the effect of a NACA-shaped central hydrofoil has been
investigated, with the aim of evaluating the impact of a solid
blockage on the performance of the shrouded rotor configuration.
The beneficial effect of the shroud on rotor overall performances
has clearly been evidenced, while the adoption of the central
hydrofoil has proved to be detrimental, being the resulting flow slow
down (due to the presence of the obstacle) much higher with respect
to the flow acceleration (due to the solid blockage effect).
Abstract: In the past years, the world has witnessed significant work in the field of Manufacturing. Special efforts have been made in the implementation of new technologies, management and control systems, among many others which have all evolved the field. Closely following all this, due to the scope of new projects and the need of turning the existing flexible ideas into more autonomous and intelligent ones, i.e.: moving toward a more intelligent manufacturing, the present paper emerges with the main aim of contributing to the analysis and a few customization issues of a new iCIM 3000 system at the IPSAM. In this process, special emphasis in made on the material flow problem. For this, besides offering a description and analysis of the system and its main parts, also some tips on how to define other possible alternative material flow scenarios and a partial analysis of the combinatorial nature of the problem are offered as well. All this is done with the intentions of relating it with the use of simulation tools, for which these have been briefly addressed with a special focus on the Witness simulation package. For a better comprehension, the previous elements are supported by a few figures and expressions which would help obtaining necessary data. Such data and others will be used in the future, when simulating the scenarios in the search of the best material flow configurations.
Abstract: Lately, significant work in the area of Intelligent
Manufacturing has become public and mainly applied within the
frame of industrial purposes. Special efforts have been made in the
implementation of new technologies, management and control
systems, among many others which have all evolved the field. Aware
of all this and due to the scope of new projects and the need of
turning the existing flexible ideas into more autonomous and
intelligent ones, i.e.: Intelligent Manufacturing, the present paper
emerges with the main aim of contributing to the design and analysis
of the material flow in either systems, cells or work stations under
this new “intelligent" denomination. For this, besides offering a
conceptual basis in some of the key points to be taken into account
and some general principles to consider in the design and analysis of
the material flow, also some tips on how to define other possible
alternative material flow scenarios and a classification of the states a

the intentions of relating it with the use of simulation tools, for which
these have been briefly addressed with a special focus on the Witness
simulation package. For a better comprehension, the previous
elements are supported by a detailed layout, other figures and a few
expressions which could help obtaining necessary data. Such data and
others will be used in the future, when simulating the scenarios in the
search of the best material flow configurations.
Abstract: This paper presents a new approach for busbar protection with stable operation of current transformer during saturation, using fuzzy neuro and symmetrical components theory. This technique uses symmetrical components of current signals to learn the hidden relationship existing in the input patterns. Simulation studies are preformed and the influence of changing system parameters such as inception fault and source impedance is studied. Details of the design procedure and the results of performance studies with the proposed relay are given in the paper. An analysis of the performance of the proposed technique during ct saturation conditions is presented. The performance of the technique was investigated for a variety of operating conditions and for several busbar configurations. Data generated by EMTDC simulations of model power systems were used in the investigations. The results indicate that the proposed technique is stable during ct saturation conditions.
