Abstract: A brushless DC motor with integrated drive circuit for air management system is presented. Using magnetic equivalent circuit model a basic design of the motor is determined, and specific configurations are inspected thanks to finite element analysis. In order to reduce an unbalanced magnetic force in an axial direction, induced forces between a stator core and a permanent magnet are calculated with respect to the relative positions of them. For the high efficiency, and high power density, BLDC motor and drive are developed. Also vibration mode and eccentricity of a rotor are considered at the rated and maximum rotational speed Through the experimental results, a validity of the simulated one is confirmed.
Abstract: In this research study, an intelligent detection system
to support medical diagnosis and detection of abnormal lesions by
processing endoscopic images is presented. The images used in this
study have been obtained using the M2A Swallowable Imaging
Capsule - a patented, video color-imaging disposable capsule.
Schemes have been developed to extract texture features from the
fuzzy texture spectra in the chromatic and achromatic domains for a
selected region of interest from each color component histogram of
endoscopic images. The implementation of an advanced fuzzy
inference neural network which combines fuzzy systems and
artificial neural networks and the concept of fusion of multiple
classifiers dedicated to specific feature parameters have been also
adopted in this paper. The achieved high detection accuracy of the
proposed system has provided thus an indication that such intelligent
schemes could be used as a supplementary diagnostic tool in
endoscopy.
Abstract: A state of the art Speaker Identification (SI) system
requires a robust feature extraction unit followed by a speaker
modeling scheme for generalized representation of these features.
Over the years, Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC)
modeled on the human auditory system has been used as a standard
acoustic feature set for speech related applications. On a recent
contribution by authors, it has been shown that the Inverted Mel-
Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (IMFCC) is useful feature set for
SI, which contains complementary information present in high
frequency region. This paper introduces the Gaussian shaped filter
(GF) while calculating MFCC and IMFCC in place of typical
triangular shaped bins. The objective is to introduce a higher
amount of correlation between subband outputs. The performances
of both MFCC & IMFCC improve with GF over conventional
triangular filter (TF) based implementation, individually as well as
in combination. With GMM as speaker modeling paradigm, the
performances of proposed GF based MFCC and IMFCC in
individual and fused mode have been verified in two standard
databases YOHO, (Microphone Speech) and POLYCOST
(Telephone Speech) each of which has more than 130 speakers.
Abstract: This paper focuses on the Mega-Sub Controlled
Structure Systems (MSCSS) performances and characteristics
regarding the new control principle contained in MSCSS subjected to
strong earthquake excitations. The adopted control scheme consists of
modulated sub-structures where the control action is achieved by
viscous dampers and sub-structure own configuration. The
elastic-plastic time history analysis under severe earthquake excitation
is analyzed base on the Finite Element Analysis Method (FEAM), and
some comparison results are also given in this paper. The result shows
that the MSCSS systems can remarkably reduce vibrations effects
more than the mega-sub structure (MSS). The study illustrates that the
improved MSCSS presents good seismic resistance ability even at 1.2g
and can absorb seismic energy in the structure, thus imply that
structural members cross section can be reduce and achieve to good
economic characteristics. Furthermore, the elasto-plastic analysis
demonstrates that the MSCSS is accurate enough regarding
international building evaluation and design codes. This paper also
shows that the elasto-plastic dynamic analysis method is a reasonable
and reliable analysis method for structures subjected to strong
earthquake excitations and that the computed results are more precise.
Abstract: Graph has become increasingly important in modeling
complicated structures and schemaless data such as proteins, chemical
compounds, and XML documents. Given a graph query, it is desirable
to retrieve graphs quickly from a large database via graph-based
indices. Different from the existing methods, our approach, called
VFM (Vertex to Frequent Feature Mapping), makes use of vertices
and decision features as the basic indexing feature. VFM constructs
two mappings between vertices and frequent features to answer graph
queries. The VFM approach not only provides an elegant solution to
the graph indexing problem, but also demonstrates how database
indexing and query processing can benefit from data mining,
especially frequent pattern mining. The results show that the proposed
method not only avoids the enumeration method of getting subgraphs
of query graph, but also effectively reduces the subgraph isomorphism
tests between the query graph and graphs in candidate answer set in
verification stage.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a supervised method for
color image classification based on a multilevel sigmoidal neural
network (MSNN) model. In this method, images are classified into
five categories, i.e., “Car", “Building", “Mountain", “Farm" and
“Coast". This classification is performed without any segmentation
processes. To verify the learning capabilities of the proposed method,
we compare our MSNN model with the traditional Sigmoidal Neural
Network (SNN) model. Results of comparison have shown that the
MSNN model performs better than the traditional SNN model in the
context of training run time and classification rate. Both color
moments and multi-level wavelets decomposition technique are used
to extract features from images. The proposed method has been
tested on a variety of real and synthetic images.
Abstract: A manufacturing feature can be defined simply as a
geometric shape and its manufacturing information to create the shape.
In a feature-based process planning system, feature library that
consists of pre-defined manufacturing features and the manufacturing
information to create the shape of the features, plays an important role
in the extraction of manufacturing features with their proper
manufacturing information. However, to manage the manufacturing
information flexibly, it is important to build a feature library that can
be easily modified. In this paper, the implementation of Semantic Wiki
for the development of the feature library is proposed.
Abstract: Image coding based on clustering provides immediate
access to targeted features of interest in a high quality decoded
image. This approach is useful for intelligent devices, as well as for
multimedia content-based description standards. The result of image
clustering cannot be precise in some positions especially on pixels
with edge information which produce ambiguity among the clusters.
Even with a good enhancement operator based on PDE, the quality of
the decoded image will highly depend on the clustering process. In
this paper, we introduce an ambiguity cluster in image coding to
represent pixels with vagueness properties. The presence of such
cluster allows preserving some details inherent to edges as well for
uncertain pixels. It will also be very useful during the decoding phase
in which an anisotropic diffusion operator, such as Perona-Malik,
enhances the quality of the restored image. This work also offers a
comparative study to demonstrate the effectiveness of a fuzzy
clustering technique in detecting the ambiguity cluster without losing
lot of the essential image information. Several experiments have been
carried out to demonstrate the usefulness of ambiguity concept in
image compression. The coding results and the performance of the
proposed algorithms are discussed in terms of the peak signal-tonoise
ratio and the quantity of ambiguous pixels.
Abstract: In this paper, the feasibility study of using a hybrid
system of ground heat exchangers (GHE) and direct evaporative
cooling system in arid weather condition has been performed. The
model is applied for Yazd and Kerman, two cities with arid weather
condition in Iran. The system composed of three sections: Ground-
Coupled-Circuit (GCC), Direct Evaporative Cooler (DEC) and
Cooling Coil Unite (CCU). The GCC provides the necessary precooling
for DEC. The GCC includes four vertical GHE which are
designed in series configuration. Simulation results show that
hybridization of GCC and DEC could provide comfort condition
whereas DEC alone did not. Based on the results the cooling
effectiveness of a hybrid system is more than unity. Thus, this novel
hybrid system could decrease the air temperature below the ambient
wet-bulb temperature. This environmentally clean and energy
efficient system can be considered as an alternative to the mechanical
vapor compression systems.
Abstract: We here propose improved version of elastic graph matching (EGM) as a face detector, called the multi-scale EGM (MS-EGM). In this improvement, Gabor wavelet-based pyramid reduces computational complexity for the feature representation often used in the conventional EGM, but preserving a critical amount of information about an image. The MS-EGM gives us higher detection performance than Viola-Jones object detection algorithm of the AdaBoost Haar-like feature cascade. We also show rapid detection speeds of the MS-EGM, comparable to the Viola-Jones method. We find fruitful benefits in the MS-EGM, in terms of topological feature representation for a face.
Abstract: The proof of concept experiments were conducted to
determine the feasibility of using small amounts of Dissolved
Sulphur (DS) from the gaseous phase to precipitate platinum ions in
chloride media. Two sets of precipitation experiments were
performed in which the source of sulphur atoms was either a
thiosulphate solution (Na2S2O3) or a sulphur dioxide gas (SO2). In
liquid-liquid (L-L) system, complete precipitation of Pt was achieved
at small dosages of Na2S2O3 (0.01 – 1.0 M) in a time interval of 3-5
minutes. On the basis of this result, gas absorption tests were carried
out mainly to achieve sulphur solubility equivalent to 0.018 M. The
idea that huge amounts of precious metals could be recovered
selectively from their dilute solutions by utilizing the waste SO2
streams at low pressure seemed attractive from the economic and
environmental point of views. Therefore, mass transfer characteristics
of SO2 gas associated with reactive absorption across the gas-liquid
(G-L) interface were evaluated under different conditions of pressure
(0.5 – 2 bar), solution temperature ranges from 20 – 50 oC and acid
strength (1 – 4 M, HCl). This paper concludes with information about
selective precipitation of Pt in the presence of cations (Fe2+, Co2+,
and Cr3+) in a CSTR and recommendation to scale up laboratory data
to industrial pilot scale operations.
Abstract: This work focuses on the remediation of polycyclic
aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)-contaminated soil via Fenton
treatment coupled with novel chelating agent (CA). The feasibility of
chelated modified Fenton (MF) treatment to promote PAH oxidation
in artificially contaminated soils was investigated in laboratory scale
batch experiments at natural pH. The effects of adding inorganic and
organic CA are discussed. Experiments using different iron catalyst
to CA ratios were conducted, resulting in hydrogen peroxide: soil:
iron: CA weight ratios that varied from 0.049: 1: 0.072: 0.008 to
0.049: 1: 0.072: 0.067. The results revealed that (1) inorganic CA
could provide much higher PAH removal efficiency and (2) most of
the proposed CAs were more efficient than commonly utilised CAs
even at mild ratio. This work highlights the potential of novel
chelating agents in maintaining a suitable environment throughout
the Fenton treatment, particularly in soils with high buffer capacity.
Abstract: This paper proposes new hybrid approaches for face
recognition. Gabor wavelets representation of face images is an
effective approach for both facial action recognition and face
identification. Perform dimensionality reduction and linear
discriminate analysis on the down sampled Gabor wavelet faces can
increase the discriminate ability. Nearest feature space is extended to
various similarity measures. In our experiments, proposed Gabor
wavelet faces combined with extended neural net feature space
classifier shows very good performance, which can achieve 93 %
maximum correct recognition rate on ORL data set without any preprocessing
step.
Abstract: The feasibility of employing solar radiation for
enhanced Fenton process in degradation of combined chlorpyrifos,
cypermethrin and chlorothalonil pesticides was examined. The effect
of various operating conditions of the process on biodegradability
improvement and mineralization of the pesticides were also
evaluated. The optimum operating conditions for treatment of
aqueous solution containing 100, 50 and 250 mg L-1 chlorpyrifos
cypermethrin and chlorothalonil, respectively were observed to be
H2O2/COD molar ratio 2, H2O2/Fe2+ molar ratio 25 and pH 3. Under
the optimum operating conditions, complete degradation of the
pesticides occurred in 1 min. Biodegradability (BOD5/COD)
increased from zero to 0.36 in 60 min, and COD and TOC removal
were 74.19 and 58.32%, respectively in 60 min. Due to
mineralization of organic carbon, decrease in ammonia-nitrogen from
22 to 4.3 mg L-1 and increase in nitrate from 0.7 to 18.1 mg L-1 in
60 min were recorded. The study indicated that solar photo-Fenton
process can be used for pretreatment of chlorpyrifos, cypermethrin
and chlorothalonil pesticides in aqueous solution for further
biological treatment.

mentioned goals.
Abstract: This paper presents an algorithm which extends the rapidly-exploring random tree (RRT) framework to deal with change of the task environments. This algorithm called the Retrieval RRT Strategy (RRS) combines a support vector machine (SVM) and RRT and plans the robot motion in the presence of the change of the surrounding environment. This algorithm consists of two levels. At the first level, the SVM is built and selects a proper path from the bank of RRTs for a given environment. At the second level, a real path is planned by the RRT planners for the given environment. The suggested method is applied to the control of KUKA™,, a commercial 6 DOF robot manipulator, and its feasibility and efficiency are demonstrated via the cosimulatation of MatLab™, and RecurDyn™,.
Abstract: This paper describes the design and results of FROID,
an outbound intrusion detection system built with agent technology
and supported by an attacker-centric ontology. The prototype
features a misuse-based detection mechanism that identifies remote
attack tools in execution. Misuse signatures composed of attributes
selected through entropy analysis of outgoing traffic streams and
process runtime data are derived from execution variants of attack
programs. The core of the architecture is a mesh of self-contained
detection cells organized non-hierarchically that group agents in a
functional fashion. The experiments show performance gains when
the ontology is enabled as well as an increase in accuracy achieved
when correlation cells combine detection evidence received from
independent detection cells.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a morphing method by which face color images can be freely transformed. The main focus of this work is the transformation of one face image to another. This method is fully automatic in that it can morph two face images by automatically detecting all the control points necessary to perform the morph. A face detection neural network, edge detection and medium filters are employed to detect the face position and features. Five control points, for both the source and target images, are then extracted based on the facial features. Triangulation method is then used to match and warp the source image to the target image using the control points. Finally color interpolation is done using a color Gaussian model that calculates the color for each particular frame depending on the number of frames used. A real coded Genetic algorithm is used in both the image warping and color blending steps to assist in step size decisions and speed up the morphing. This method results in ''very smooth'' morphs and is fast to process.
Abstract: A green design for assembly model is presented to
integrate design evaluation and assembly and disassembly sequence
planning by evaluating the three activities in one integrated model. For
an assembled product, an assembly sequence planning model is
required for assembling the product at the start of the product life cycle.
A disassembly sequence planning model is needed for disassembling
the product at the end. In a green product life cycle, it is important to
plan how a product can be disassembled, reused, or recycled, before
the product is actually assembled and produced. Given a product
requirement, there may be several design alternative cases to design
the same product. In the different design cases, the assembly and
disassembly sequences for producing the product can be different. In
this research, a new model is presented to concurrently evaluate the
design and plan the assembly and disassembly sequences. First, the
components are represented by using graph based models. Next, a
particle swarm optimization (PSO) method with a new encoding
scheme is developed. In the new PSO encoding scheme, a particle is
represented by a position matrix defining an assembly sequence and a
disassembly sequence. The assembly and disassembly sequences can
be simultaneously planned with an objective of minimizing the total of
assembly costs and disassembly costs. The test results show that the
presented method is feasible and efficient for solving the integrated
design evaluation and assembly and disassembly sequence planning
problem. An example product is implemented and illustrated in this
paper.
