Abstract: In this paper, Exp-function method is used for some exact solitary solutions of the generalized Pochhammer-Chree equation. It has been shown that the Exp-function method, with the help of symbolic computation, provides a very effective and powerful mathematical tool for solving nonlinear partial differential equations. As a result, some exact solitary solutions are obtained. It is shown that the Exp-function method is direct, effective, succinct and can be used for many other nonlinear partial differential equations.
Abstract: This study, focusing on the importance of encouraging
outdoor activities for children, aims to propose and implement a
Web-GIS based outdoor education program for elementary schools,
which will then be evaluated by users. Specifically, for the purpose of
improved outdoor activities in the elementary school education, the
outdoor education program, with chiefly using the Web-GIS that
provides a good information provision and sharing tool, is proposed
and implemented before being evaluated by users. Conclusions of the
study boil down to:
(1) An eight-staged outdoor education program based on the Web-GIS
was proposed for a “second school" of an elementary school that
was then implemented before being evaluated by users (teachers,
instructors, students, and their parents).
(2) The program generally received a good evaluation, while a lot of
students and their parents evaluated negatively for the degree of
discovery and for the degree of interest, respectively, in the
questionnaire survey of students and their parents conducted after
the “second school". The surveys clearly show that an issue to be
solved, from the viewpoint of teachers in particular, is the
establishment of the GIS that will easily represent teaching materials
developed by teachers and of Web-GIS, and improved significance
of the use of GIS and Web-GIS for their widespread.

Abstract: Transportation authorities need to provide the services
and facilities that are critical to every country-s well-being and
development. Management of the road network is becoming
increasingly challenging as demands increase and resources are
limited. Public sector institutions are integrating performance
information into budgeting, managing and reporting via
implementing performance measurement systems. In the face of
growing challenges, performance measurement of road networks is
attracting growing interest in many countries. The large scale of
public investments makes the maintenance and development of road
networks an area where such systems are an important assessment
tool. Transportation agencies have been using performance
measurement and modeling as part of pavement and bridge
management systems. Recently the focus has been on extending the
process to applications in road construction and maintenance
systems, operations and safety programs, and administrative
structures and procedures. To eliminate failure and dysfunctional
consequences the importance of obtaining objective data and
implementing evaluation instrument where necessary is presented in
this paper
Abstract: Nitrogen loss from irrigated cropland, particularly
sandy soils, significantly contributes to nitrate (NO3
-) levels in
surface and groundwaters. Thus, it is of great interest to use
inexpensive natural products that can increase the fertilizer efficiency
and decrease nitrate leaching. In this study, the ability of natural
Iranian zeolite clinoptilolite (Cp) and surfactant modified zeolite
clinoptilolite (SMZ) to remove NH4
+ and NO3
-, respectively, from
aqueous solutions was determined. The feasibility of using Cp and
SMZ as soil amendment to reduce nitrate leaching from soil using
lysimeters was also investigated. Zeolite showed 10.23% to 88.42%
NH4
+ removal efficiency over a wide range of initial NH4
+
concentrations. Nitrate removal efficiency by SMZ was 32.26% to
82.26%. Field study results showed that Cp and SMZ significantly (p
< 0.05) reduced leachate NO3-N concentration compared to control.
There was no significant difference between maximum and mean
leachate NO3-N concentration of SMZ lysimeters and those of Cp
lysimeters.
Abstract: In this paper, an automatic control system design
based on Integral Squared Error (ISE) parameter optimization
technique has been implemented on longitudinal flight dynamics of
an UAV. It has been aimed to minimize the error function between
the reference signal and the output of the plant. In the following
parts, objective function has been defined with respect to error
dynamics. An unconstrained optimization problem has been solved
analytically by using necessary and sufficient conditions of
optimality, optimum PID parameters have been obtained and
implemented in control system dynamics.
Abstract: The present research focus on the processing of mullite-based ceramics from oil refinery industrial wastes and byproducts of agricultural industry and on the investigating of silane modified surface of ceramics. Two waste products were used as initial material – waste aluminum oxide and waste rice husk. The burning - out additives used were waste rise husk. It is known that the oxide ceramics surface is hydrophilic due to the presence of – OH groups in it. The nature of ceramic surface regarding permeation of water and hydrocarbons can be changed by further treatment with silanes. The samples were studied mainly by X-ray analysis, FT-IR absorbance measurements and microscopic analysis. The X-ray analyses showed the phase composition depends on the firing temperature and on the purity of the starting alumina. Two kind of silanes were used for the transformation of surface from hydrophilic to hydrophobic – trimethoxymethylsilane (TMMS) and trimethylclorsilane (TMCS).
Abstract: A bird strike can cause damage to stationary and
rotating aircraft engine parts, especially the engine fan. This paper
presents a bird strike simulated by blocking four stator blade
passages. It includes the numerical results of the unsteady lowfrequency
aerodynamic forces and the aeroelastic behaviour caused
by a non-symmetric upstream flow affecting the first two rotor blade
stages in the axial-compressor of a jet engine. The obtained results
show that disturbances in the engine inlet strongly influence the level
of unsteady forces acting on the rotor blades. With a partially
blocked inlet the whole spectrum of low-frequency harmonics is
observed. Such harmonics can lead to rotor blade damage. The lowfrequency
amplitudes are higher in the first stage rotor blades than in
the second stage. In both rotor blades stages flutter appeared as a
result of bird strike.
Abstract: This paper presents an online method that learns the
corresponding points of an object from un-annotated grayscale images
containing instances of the object. In the first image being
processed, an ensemble of node points is automatically selected
which is matched in the subsequent images. A Bayesian posterior
distribution for the locations of the nodes in the images is formed.
The likelihood is formed from Gabor responses and the prior assumes
the mean shape of the node ensemble to be similar in a translation
and scale free space. An association model is applied for separating
the object nodes and background nodes. The posterior distribution is
sampled with Sequential Monte Carlo method. The matched object
nodes are inferred to be the corresponding points of the object
instances. The results show that our system matches the object nodes
as accurately as other methods that train the model with annotated
training images.
Abstract: A multimedia presentation system refers to the integration of a multimedia database with a presentation manager which has the functionality of content selection, organization and playout of multimedia presentations. It requires high performance of involved system components. Starting from multimedia information capture until the presentation delivery, high performance tools are required for accessing, manipulating, storing and retrieving these segments, for transferring and delivering them in a presentation terminal according to a playout order. The organization of presentations is a complex task in that the display order of presentation contents (in time and space) must be specified. A multimedia presentation contains audio, video, images and text media types. The critical decisions for presentation construction include what the contents are, how the contents are organized, and once the decision is made on the organization of the contents of the presentation, it must be conveyed to the end user in the correct organizational order and in a timely fashion. This paper introduces a framework for specification of multimedia presentations and describes the design of sample presentations using this framework from a multimedia database.
Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of preexercise glycerol hyperhydration on endurance performance in a heat chamber designed to simulate the World Championship Distance (WCD) duathlon (10km run, 40km ride, 5 km run). Duathlons are often performed in hot and humid conditions and as a result hydration is a major issue. Glycerol enhances the body’s capacity for fluid retention by inducing hyperhydration, which is theorized to improve thermoregulatory and cardiovascular responses, and thereby improve performance. Six well-trained athletes completed the testing protocol in a heat chamber at the La Trobe University Exercise Physiology Laboratory. Each testing session was approximately 4.5 hours in duration (2 hours of pre-exercise glycerol hyper-hydration followed by approximately 2.5 hours of exercise). The results showed an increased water retention pre-exercise and an improved overall performance of 2.04% was achieved by subjects ingesting the glycerol solution.
Abstract: Lightweight ceramic materials in the form of bricks
and blocks are widely used in modern construction. They may be
obtained by adding of rice husk, rye straw, etc, as porous forming
materials. Rice husk is a major by-product of the rice milling
industry. Its utilization as a valuable product has always been a
problem. Various technologies for utilization of rice husk through
biological and thermochemical conversion are being developed.
The purpose of this work is to develop lightweight ceramic
materials with clay matrix and filler of rice husk and examine their
main physicomechanical properties. The results obtained allow to
suppose that the materials synthesized on the basis of waste materials
can be used as lightweight materials for construction purpose.
Abstract: The shelf life of fish was extended using disinfection
properties of ozone. For this purpose, Trout specimens were exposed
to ozone in the aqueous media for two hours and their microbial
growth and biochemical properties were measured over time.
Microbial growth of ozone treated fish was significantly slower than
control sample, resulting in lower counts of bacteria. According to
the biochemical tests; ozone treatment had no negative effects on fat,
protein and humidity of fish. Peroxide and TVN (Total Volatile
Nitrogen) measurements showed that treatment by ozone increased
the trout shelf life from 4 days to 6 days. According to the sensory
analysis, no changes were observed in color or flavor of the ozone
treated trout.
Abstract: A procedural-animation-based approach which rapidly
synthesize the adaptive locomotion for quadruped characters that they
can walk or run in any directions on an uneven terrain within a
dynamic environment was proposed. We devise practical motion
models of the quadruped animals for adapting to a varied terrain in a
real-time manner. While synthesizing locomotion, we choose the
corresponding motion models by means of the footstep prediction of
the current state in the dynamic environment, adjust the key-frames of
the motion models relying on the terrain-s attributes, calculate the
collision-free legs- trajectories, and interpolate the key-frames
according to the legs- trajectories. Finally, we apply dynamic time
warping to each part of motion for seamlessly concatenating all desired
transition motions to complete the whole locomotion. We reduce the
time cost of producing the locomotion and takes virtual characters to
fit in with dynamic environments no matter when the environments are
changed by users.
Abstract: Tritium activity concentration in Danube river water
in Serbia has been determinate using a liquid scintillation counter
Quantulus 1220. During December 2010, water samples were taken
along the entire course of Danube through Serbia, from Hungarian-
Serbian to Romanian-Serbian border. This investigation is very
important because of the nearness of nuclear reactor Paks in
Hungary. Sample preparation was performed by standard test method
using Optiphase HiSafe 3 scintillation cocktail. We used a rapid
method for the preparation of environmental samples, without
electrolytic enrichment.
Abstract: For today-s and future wireless communications applications,
more and more data traffic has to be transmitted with
growing speed and quality demands. The analog front-end of any
mobile device has to cope with very hard specifications regardless
which transmission standard has to be supported. State-of-the-art
analog front-end implementations are reaching the limit of technical
feasibility. For that reason, alternative front-end architectures could
support a continuing development of mobile communications e.g.,
six-port-based front-ends [1], [2].
In this article we propose an analog front-end with high intermediate
frequency and which utilizes additive mixing instead
of multiplicative mixing. The system architecture is presented and
several spurious effects as well as their influence on the system
dimensioning are discussed. Furthermore, several issues concerning
the technical feasibility are provided and some simulation results
are discussed which show the principle functionality of the proposed
superposition heterodyne receiver.
Abstract: High building constructions are increasing in south
beaches of the Caspian Sea because of tourist attractions and limitation of residential areas. According to saturated alluvial fields transfer of load from high structures to the soil by piles is inevitable.
In spite of most of these piles are under compression forces, tension piles are used in special conditions. Few studies have been conducted
because of the limited use of these piles. Tension capacity of openended pipe piles in full scale was tested in this study. The length of the bored piles was 420 up to 480 cm and all were in 120 cm
diameter. The results of testing 7 piles were compared with the results of relations given by researches.
Abstract: In recent years, an increased competition and lower profit margins have necessitated a focus on improving the performance of the product development process, an area that traditionally have been excluded from detailed steering and evaluation. A systematic improvement requires a good understanding of the current performance, wherefore the interest for product development performance measurement has increased dramatically. This paper presents a case study that evaluates the performance of the product development performance measurement system used in a Swedish company that is a part of a global corporate group. The study is based on internal documentation and eighteen in-depth interviews with stakeholders involved in the product development process. The results from the case study includes a description of what metrics that are in use, how these are employed, and its affect on the quality of the performance measurement system. Especially, the importance of having a well-defined process proved to have a major impact on the quality of the performance measurement system in this particular case.
Abstract: This paper contributes to the debate on the proximate
causes of climate change. Also, it discusses the impact of the global
temperature increases since the beginning of the twentieth century
and the effectiveness of climate change models in isolating the
primary cause (anthropogenic influences or natural variability in
temperature) of the observed temperature increases that occurred
within this period. The paper argues that if climate scientist and
policymakers ignore the anthropogenic influence (greenhouse gases)
on global warming on the pretense of lack of agreement among
various climate models and their inability to account for all the
necessary factors of global warming at all levels the current efforts of
greenhouse emissions control and global warming as a whole could
be exacerbated.
Abstract: Production of biogas from bakery waste was enhanced
by additional bacterial cell. This study was divided into 2 steps. First
step, grease waste from bakery industry-s grease trap was initially
degraded by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The concentration of byproduct,
especially glycerol, was determined and found that glycerol
concentration increased from 12.83% to 48.10%. Secondary step, 3
biodigesters were set up in 3 different substrates: non-degraded waste
as substrate in first biodigester, degraded waste as substrate in
secondary biodigester, and degraded waste mixed with swine manure
in ratio 1:1 as substrate in third biodigester. The highest
concentration of biogas was found in third biodigester that was
44.33% of methane and 63.71% of carbon dioxide. The lower
concentration at 24.90% of methane and 18.98% of carbon dioxide
was exhibited in secondary biodigester whereas the lowest was found
in non-degraded waste biodigester. It was demonstrated that the
biogas production was greatly increased with the initial grease waste
degradation by Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
