Abstract: Telecenter is a place where communities can access computers, the Internet, and other digital technologies to enable them to gather information, create, learn, and communicate with others. However, previous studies found that sustainability issues related to economic, political and institutional, social and technology is one of the major problem faced by the telecenter. Based on that problem this research is planning to design a possible solution on rural telecenters sustainability with the support of business intelligence (BI). The empirical study will be conducted through qualitative and quantitative method including interviews and observations with a range of stakeholders including ministry officers, telecenters managers and operators. Result from the data collection will be analyzed using causal modeling approach of SEM SmartPLS for the validity. The expected finding from this research is the Business Intelligent Requirement Model as a guild for sustainability of the rural telecenters.
Abstract: This research involves the design and analysis of pinch-based water/wastewater networks to minimize water utility in the petrochemical and petroleum industries. A study has been done on Tehran Oil Refinery to analyze feasibilities of regeneration, reuse and recycling of water network. COD is considered as a single key contaminant. Amount of freshwater was reduced about 149m3/h (43.8%) regarding COD. Re-design (or retrofitting) of water allocation in the networks was undertaken. The results were analyzed through graphical method and mathematical programming technique which clearly demonstrated that amount of required water would be determined by mass transfer of COD.
Abstract: In this paper the problem of buckling of plates on foundation of finite length and with different side support is studied.
The Finite Strip Method is used as tool for the analysis. This method uses finite strip elastic, foundation, and geometric matrices to build the assembly matrices for the whole structure, then after introducing boundary conditions at supports, the resulting reduced matrices is transformed into a standard Eigenvalue-Eigenvector problem. The solution of this problem will enable the determination of the buckling load, the associated buckling modes and the buckling wave length.
To carry out the buckling analysis starting from the elastic, foundation, and geometric stiffness matrices for each strip a computer program FORTRAN list is developed.
Since stiffness matrices are function of wave length of buckling, the computer program used an iteration procedure to find the critical buckling stress for each value of foundation modulus and for each boundary condition.
The results showed the use of elastic medium to support plates subject to axial load increase a great deal the buckling load, the results found are very close with those obtained by other analytical methods and experimental work.
The results also showed that foundation compensates the effect of the weakness of some types of constraint of side support and maximum benefit found for plate with one side simply supported the other free.
Abstract: In chaos synchronization, the main goal is to design such controller(s) that synchronizes the states of master and slave system asymptotically globally. This paper studied and investigated the synchronization problem of two identical Chen, and identical Tigan chaotic systems and two non-identical Chen and Tigan chaotic systems using Non-linear active control algorithm. In this study, based on Lyapunov stability theory and using non-linear active control algorithm, it has been shown that the proposed schemes have excellent transient performance using only two nonlinear controllers and have shown analytically as well as graphically that synchronization is asymptotically globally stable.
Abstract: This study investigates theoretical model of tourist intention in the context of mobile tourism guide. The research model consists of three constructs: mobile design quality, innovation characteristics, and intention to use mobile tourism guide. In order to investigate the effects of determinants and examine the relationships, partial least squares is employed for data analysis and research model development. The results show that mobile design quality and innovation quality significantly impact on tourists’ intention to use mobile tourism guide. Furthermore, mobile design quality has a strong influence on innovation characteristics, and cannot be the moderator on the relationship between innovation characteristics and tourists’ intention to use mobile tourism guide. Our findings propose theoretical model for mobile research and provide an important guideline for developing mobile application.
Abstract: Red blood cells (RBCs) are among the most
commonly and intensively studied type of blood cells in cell biology.
Anemia is a lack of RBCs is characterized by its level compared to
the normal hemoglobin level. In this study, a system based image
processing methodology was developed to localize and extract RBCs
from microscopic images. Also, the machine learning approach is
adopted to classify the localized anemic RBCs images. Several
textural and geometrical features are calculated for each extracted
RBCs. The training set of features was analyzed using principal
component analysis (PCA). With the proposed method, RBCs were
isolated in 4.3secondsfrom an image containing 18 to 27 cells. The
reasons behind using PCA are its low computation complexity and
suitability to find the most discriminating features which can lead to
accurate classification decisions. Our classifier algorithm yielded
accuracy rates of 100%, 99.99%, and 96.50% for K-nearest neighbor
(K-NN) algorithm, support vector machine (SVM), and neural
network RBFNN, respectively. Classification was evaluated in highly
sensitivity, specificity, and kappa statistical parameters. In
conclusion, the classification results were obtained within short time
period, and the results became better when PCA was used.
Abstract: This article aims to assess the level of basic knowledge of statutory employment rights at the workplace as prescribed by the Malaysian Employment Act 1955. The statutory employment rights comprises of a variety of individual employment rights such as protections of wages, statutory right to the general standard of working time, statutory right to rest day, public holidays, annual leave and sick leave as well as female employee’s statutory right to paid maternity leave. A field survey was carried out to collect data by using self-administered questionnaires from Human Resource (HR) practitioners in the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The results reveal that the level of basic knowledge of legislated employment rights varies between different types of statutory rights from high level to low level.
Abstract: The stiffness of the workpiece is very important to reduce the errors in manufacturing process. The high stiffness of the workpiece can be achieved by optimal positioning of fixture elements in the fixture. The minimization of the sum of the nodal deflection normal to the surface is used as objective function in previous research. The deflection in other direction has been neglected. The 3-2-1 fixturing principle is not valid for metal sheets due to its flexible nature. We propose a new fixture layout optimization method N-3-2-1 for metal sheets that uses the strain energy of the finite elements. This method combines the genetic algorithm and finite element analysis. The objective function in this method is to minimize the sum of all the element strain energy. By using the concept of element strain energy, the deformations in all the directions have been considered. Strain energy and stiffness are inversely proportional to each other. So, lower the value of strain energy, higher will be the stiffness. Two different kinds of case studies are presented. The case studies are solved for both objective functions; element strain energy and nodal deflection. The result are compared to verify the propose method.
Abstract: This study presents a new method for detecting the
cutting tool wear based on the measured cutting force signals using
the regression model and I-kaz method. The detection of tool wear
was done automatically using the in-house developed regression
model and 3D graphic presentation of I-kaz 3D coefficient during
machining process. The machining tests were carried out on a CNC
turning machine Colchester Master Tornado T4 in dry cutting
condition, and Kistler 9255B dynamometer was used to measure the
cutting force signals, which then stored and displayed in the DasyLab
software. The progression of the cutting tool flank wear land (VB)
was indicated by the amount of the cutting force generated. Later, the
I-kaz was used to analyze all the cutting force signals from beginning
of the cut until the rejection stage of the cutting tool. Results of the IKaz
analysis were represented by various characteristic of I-kaz 3D
coefficient and 3D graphic presentation. The I-kaz 3D coefficient
number decreases when the tool wear increases. This method can be
used for real time tool wear monitoring.
Abstract: According to the increasing utilization in power system, the transmission lines and power plants often operate in stability boundary and system probably lose its stable condition by over loading or occurring disturbance. According to the reasons that are mentioned, the prediction and recognition of voltage instability in power system has particular importance and it makes the network security stronger.This paper, by considering of power system contingencies based on the effects of them on Mega Watt Margin (MWM) and maximum loading point is focused in order to analyse the static voltage stability using continuation power flow method. The study has been carried out on IEEE 14-Bus Test System using Matlab and Psat softwares and results are presented.
Abstract: The objective of this study was to determine the
effects of garlic oil (Allium sativa), turmeric powder (Curcuma longa
Linn) and Monensin on Total apparent digestibility of nutrients in
Baloochi lambs. The experiment was designed as a 4 x 4 Latin square
using 4 ruminally baloochi lambs with 4 treatments in four 28-d
periods. Treatments were control (no additive), garlic oil (0. 4 g/d),
monensin (0. 2 g/d) and turmeric powder (20 g/d). Total apparent
digestibility's (% of intake) of organic matter (OM), dry matter (DM),
crud protein (CP), ether extract(EE), non fiber carbohydrate (NFC),
acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) in the
total tract were not influenced by addition of either additives.
Abstract: This paper highlights the controversial socioscientific
issues and their misconceptions in Nigeria as well as in some other
low literate societies around the world. It states the relevance of the
issues or problems in Nigeria, which might be neutral or absent in
other countries. The need to understand the issues and how such an
understanding can contribute to the achievement of the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs) is also being discussed. The paper
concludes by suggesting the responsibilities of science teachers to
remove the misconceptions surrounding the socioscientific issues.
Abstract: The steady coupled dissipative layers, called
Marangoni mixed convection boundary layers, in the presence of a
magnetic field and solute concentration that are formed along the
surface of two immiscible fluids with uniform suction or injection
effects is examined. The similarity boundary layer equations are
solved numerically using the Runge-Kutta Fehlberg with shooting
technique. The Marangoni, buoyancy and external pressure gradient
effects that are generated in mixed convection boundary layer flow
are assessed. The velocity, temperature and concentration boundary
layers thickness decrease with the increase of the magnetic field
strength and the injection to suction. For buoyancy-opposed flow, the
Marangoni mixed convection parameter enhances the velocity
boundary layer but decreases the temperature and concentration
boundary layers. However, for the buoyancy-assisted flow, the
Marangoni mixed convection parameter decelerates the velocity but
increases the temperature and concentration boundary layers.
Abstract: The Mobile IP Standard has been developed to support mobility over the Internet. This standard contains several drawbacks as in the cases where packets are routed via sub-optimal paths and significant amount of signaling messages is generated due to the home registration procedure which keeps the network aware of the current location of the mobile nodes. Recently, a dynamic hierarchical mobility management strategy for mobile IP networks (DHMIP) has been proposed to reduce home registrations costs. However, this strategy induces a packet delivery delay and increases the risk of packet loss. In this paper, we propose an enhanced version of the dynamic hierarchical strategy that reduces the packet delivery delay and minimizes the risk of packet loss. Preliminary results obtained from simulations are promising. They show that the enhanced version outperforms the original dynamic hierarchical mobility management strategy version.
Abstract: This paper studies the effect of time delay on stability
of mutualism population model with limited resources for both
species. First, the stability of the model without time delay is
analyzed. The model is then improved by considering a time delay in
the mechanism of the growth rate of the population. We analyze the
effect of time delay on the stability of the stable equilibrium point.
Result showed that the time delay can induce instability of the stable
equilibrium point, bifurcation and stability switches.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to examine the inter
relationships among various leadership branding constructs of
entrepreneurs in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). We
employ a quantitative structural equation modeling through a new
leadership branding engagement model comprises constructs of
leader-s or entrepreneur-s personality, branding practice and
customer engagement. The results confirm that there are significant
relationships between the three constructs and the major fit indices
indicate that the data fits the proposed model. The findings provide
insights and fill in the literature gaps on statistically validated
representation of leadership branding for SMEs across new economic
regions of Malaysia that may implicate other economic zones with
similar situations. This study extends the establishment of a
leadership branding engagement model with a new mechanism of
using leaders- personality as a predictor to branding practice and
customer engagement performance.
Abstract: A new and cost effective RP-HPLC method was
developed and validated for simultaneous analysis of non steroidal
anti inflammatory dugs Diclofenac sodium (DFS), Flurbiprofen
(FLP) and an opioid analgesic Tramadol (TMD) in advanced drug
delivery systems (Liposome and Microcapsules), marketed brands
and human plasma. Isocratic system was employed for the flow of
mobile phase consisting of 10 mM sodium dihydrogen phosphate
buffer and acetonitrile in molar ratio of 67: 33 with adjusted pH of
3.2. The stationary phase was hypersil ODS column (C18, 250×4.6
mm i.d., 5 μm) with controlled temperature of 30 C°. DFS in
liposomes, microcapsules and marketed drug products was
determined in range of 99.76-99.84%. FLP and TMD in
microcapsules and brands formulation were 99.78 - 99.94 % and
99.80 - 99.82 %, respectively. Single step liquid-liquid extraction
procedure using combination of acetonitrile and trichloroacetic acid
(TCA) as protein precipitating agent was employed. The detection
limits (at S/N ratio 3) of quality control solutions and plasma samples
were 10, 20, and 20 ng/ml for DFS, FLP and TMD, respectively.
The Assay was acceptable in linear dynamic range. All other
validation parameters were found in limits of FDA and ICH method
validation guidelines. The proposed method is sensitive, accurate and
precise and could be applicable for routine analysis in
pharmaceutical industry as well as in human plasma samples for
bioequivalence and pharmacokinetics studies.
Abstract: A new approach to predict the 3D structures of proteins by combining the knowledge-based method and Molecular Dynamics Simulation is presented on the chicken villin headpiece subdomain (HP-36). Comparative modeling is employed as the knowledge-based method to predict the core region (Ala9-Asn28) of the protein while the remaining residues are built as extended regions (Met1-Lys8; Leu29-Phe36) which then further refined using Molecular Dynamics Simulation for 120 ns. Since the core region is built based on a high sequence identity to the template (65%) resulting in RMSD of 1.39 Å from the native, it is believed that this well-developed core region can act as a 'nucleation center' for subsequent rapid downhill folding. Results also demonstrate that the formation of the non-native contact which tends to hamper folding rate can be avoided. The best 3D model that exhibits most of the native characteristics is identified using clustering method which then further ranked based on the conformational free energies. It is found that the backbone RMSD of the best model compared to the NMR-MDavg is 1.01 Å and 3.53 Å, for the core region and the complete protein, respectively. In addition to this, the conformational free energy of the best model is lower by 5.85 kcal/mol as compared to the NMR-MDavg. This structure prediction protocol is shown to be effective in predicting the 3D structure of small globular protein with a considerable accuracy in much shorter time compared to the conventional Molecular Dynamics simulation alone.
Abstract: Cities expansion, urban travels increase, the
technology development, the automobile price cheapen, and the
families' income ascending cause the considerable increase in
automobile numbers of the city. This fact has led to the traffic
creation and the automobile parking site shortage in the city. Also in
Esfahan metropolis, the parking lots shortage has been the great
problem of this town; in addition, in designing and constructing of
the parking sites the traditional methods are utilized which do not
have a reasonable and optimized usage of the valuable urban lands. In
this article, by introducing the prefabricate mechanized parking
system which is inexpensive, simple and quick, and occupies very
small space, therefore provides the high content of parking site for
the cities, we can eliminate the parking space shortage difficulty of
the cities. The achieved results of this research represent that an
optimized utilization of the existent urban spaces for parking site
construction has not been accomplished. By employing the new
parking site technologies such as mechanization categorized parking
sites and the capacity prefabricate mechanized of each parking space
have become 8 multiples; in this case, the valuable urban lands can
be used in an optimized way.
Abstract: The primary aim of the e-government applications is
the fast citizen service and the accomplishment of governmental
functions. This paper discusses the knowledge management for egovernment
development in the needs and role. The paper focused
on analyzing the advantages of using knowledge management by
using the existing IT technologies to maximize the government
functions efficiency. The proposed new approach of providing
government services is based on using Knowledge management as a
part of e-government system.
