Abstract: Current image-based individual human recognition
methods, such as fingerprints, face, or iris biometric modalities
generally require a cooperative subject, views from certain aspects,
and physical contact or close proximity. These methods cannot
reliably recognize non-cooperating individuals at a distance in the
real world under changing environmental conditions. Gait, which
concerns recognizing individuals by the way they walk, is a relatively
new biometric without these disadvantages. The inherent gait
characteristic of an individual makes it irreplaceable and useful in
visual surveillance.
In this paper, an efficient gait recognition system for human
identification by extracting two features namely width vector of
the binary silhouette and the MPEG-7-based region-based shape
descriptors is proposed. In the proposed method, foreground objects
i.e., human and other moving objects are extracted by estimating
background information by a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and
subsequently, median filtering operation is performed for removing
noises in the background subtracted image. A moving target classification
algorithm is used to separate human being (i.e., pedestrian)
from other foreground objects (viz., vehicles). Shape and boundary
information is used in the moving target classification algorithm.
Subsequently, width vector of the outer contour of binary silhouette
and the MPEG-7 Angular Radial Transform coefficients are taken as
the feature vector. Next, the Principal Component Analysis (PCA)
is applied to the selected feature vector to reduce its dimensionality.
These extracted feature vectors are used to train an Hidden Markov
Model (HMM) for identification of some individuals. The proposed
system is evaluated using some gait sequences and the experimental
results show the efficacy of the proposed algorithm.
Abstract: Fuel and oxidant gas delivery plate, or fuel cell
plate, is a key component of a Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM)
fuel cell. To manufacture low-cost and high performance fuel cell
plates, advanced computer modeling and finite element structure
analysis are used as virtual prototyping tools for the optimization
of the plates at the early design stage. The present study examines
thermal stress analysis of the fuel cell plates that are produced
using a patented, low-cost fuel cell plate production technique
based on screen-printing. Design optimization is applied to
minimize the maximum stress within the plate, subject to strain
constraint with both geometry and material parameters as design
variables. The study reveals the characteristics of the printed
plates, and provides guidelines for the structure and material design
of the fuel cell plate.
Abstract: In this paper an effective approach for segmenting
human skin regions in images taken at different environment is
proposed. The proposed method uses a color distance map that is
flexible enough to reliably detect the skin regions even if the
illumination conditions of the image vary. Local image conditions is
also focused, which help the technique to adaptively detect differently
illuminated skin regions of an image. Moreover, usage of local
information also helps the skin detection process to get rid of picking
up much noisy pixels.
Abstract: Business transformation initiatives are required by
any organization to jump from its normal mode of operation to the
one that is suitable for the change in the environment such as
competitive pressures, regulatory requirements, changes in labor
market, etc., or internal such as changes in strategy/vision, changes in
the capability, change in the management, etc. Recent advances in
information technology in automating the business processes have
the potential to transform an organization to provide it with a
sustained competitive advantage. Process constitutes the skeleton of
a business. Thus, for a business to exist and compete well, it is
essential for the skeleton to be robust and agile. This paper details
“transformation" from a business perspective, methodologies to bring
about an effective transformation, process-based transformation, and
the role of services computing in this. Further, it details the benefits
that could be achieved through services computing.
Abstract: Parsing is important in Linguistics and Natural
Language Processing to understand the syntax and semantics of a
natural language grammar. Parsing natural language text is
challenging because of the problems like ambiguity and inefficiency.
Also the interpretation of natural language text depends on context
based techniques. A probabilistic component is essential to resolve
ambiguity in both syntax and semantics thereby increasing accuracy
and efficiency of the parser. Tamil language has some inherent
features which are more challenging. In order to obtain the solutions,
lexicalized and statistical approach is to be applied in the parsing
with the aid of a language model. Statistical models mainly focus on
semantics of the language which are suitable for large vocabulary
tasks where as structural methods focus on syntax which models
small vocabulary tasks. A statistical language model based on Trigram
for Tamil language with medium vocabulary of 5000 words has
been built. Though statistical parsing gives better performance
through tri-gram probabilities and large vocabulary size, it has some
disadvantages like focus on semantics rather than syntax, lack of
support in free ordering of words and long term relationship. To
overcome the disadvantages a structural component is to be
incorporated in statistical language models which leads to the
implementation of hybrid language models. This paper has attempted
to build phrase structured hybrid language model which resolves
above mentioned disadvantages. In the development of hybrid
language model, new part of speech tag set for Tamil language has
been developed with more than 500 tags which have the wider
coverage. A phrase structured Treebank has been developed with 326
Tamil sentences which covers more than 5000 words. A hybrid
language model has been trained with the phrase structured Treebank
using immediate head parsing technique. Lexicalized and statistical
parser which employs this hybrid language model and immediate
head parsing technique gives better results than pure grammar and
trigram based model.
Abstract: Grid environments include aggregation of
geographical distributed resources. Grid is put forward in three types
of computational, data and storage. This paper presents a research on
data grid. Data grid is used for covering and securing accessibility to
data from among many heterogeneous sources. Users are not worry
on the place where data is located in it, provided that, they should get
access to the data. Metadata is used for getting access to data in data
grid. Presently, application metadata catalogue and SRB middle-ware
package are used in data grids for management of metadata. At this
paper, possibility of updating, streamlining and searching is provided
simultaneously and rapidly through classified table of preserving
metadata and conversion of each table to numerous tables.
Meanwhile, with regard to the specific application, the most
appropriate and best division is set and determined. Concurrency of
implementation of some of requests and execution of pipeline is
adaptability as a result of this technique.
Abstract: When a high DC voltage is applied to a capacitor with
strongly asymmetrical electrodes, it generates a mechanical force that
affects the whole capacitor. This is caused by the motion of ions generated around the smaller of the two electrodes and their subsequent interaction with the surrounding medium. If one of the electrodes is heated, it changes the conditions around the capacitor
and influences the process of ionisation, thus changing the value of the generated force. This paper describes these changes and gives
reasons behind them. Further the experimental results are given as proof of the ionic mechanism of the phenomenon.
Abstract: Due to the non-linear characteristics of photovoltaic
(PV) array, PV systems typically are equipped with the capability of
maximum power point tracking (MPPT) feature. Moreover, in the
case of PV array under partially shaded conditions, hotspot problem
will occur which could damage the PV cells. Partial shading causes
multiple peaks in the P-V characteristic curves. This paper presents a
hybrid algorithm of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and
Artificial Neural Network (ANN) MPPT algorithm for the detection
of global peak among the multiple peaks in order to extract the true
maximum energy from PV panel. The PV system consists of PV
array, dc-dc boost converter controlled by the proposed MPPT
algorithm and a resistive load. The system was simulated using
MATLAB/Simulink package. The simulation results show that the
proposed algorithm performs well to detect the true global peak
power. The results of the simulations are analyzed and discussed.
Abstract: The distributions of stresses and deflection in
rectangular isotropic and orthotropic plates with central
circular hole under transverse static loading have been studied
using finite element method. The aim of author is to analyze
the effect of D/A ratio (where D is hole diameter and A is plate
width) upon stress concentration factor (SCF) and deflection
in isotropic and orthotropic plates under transverse static
loading. The D/A ratio is varied from 0.01 to 0.9. The analysis
is done for plates of isotropic and two different orthotropic
materials. The results are obtained for three different boundary
conditions. The variations of SCF and deflection with respect
to D/A ratio are presented in graphical form and discussed.
The finite element formulation is carried out in the analysis
section of the ANSYS package.
Abstract: During this day a considerable amount of Leachate is produced with high amounts of organic material and nutrients needed plants. This study has done in order to scrutinize the effect of Leachate compost on the pH, EC and organic matter percentage in the form of statistical Factorial plan through randomizing block design with three main and two minor treatments and also three replications during three six month periods. Major treatments include N: Irrigation with the region-s well water as a control, I: Frequent irrigation with well water and Leachate, C: Mixing Leachate and water well (25 percent leachate + 75 percent ordinary well water) and secondary treatments, include DI: surface drip irrigation and SDI: sub surface drip irrigation. Results of this study indicated significant differences between treatments and also there were mixing up with the control treatment in the reduction of pH, increasing soluble salts and also increasing the organic matter percentage. This increase is proportional to the amount of added Leachate and in the treatment also proportional to higher mixture of frequent treatment. Therefore, since creating an acidic pH increases the ability to absorb some nutrient elements such as phosphorus, iron, zinc, copper and manganese are increased and the other hand, organic materials also improve many physical and chemical properties of soil are used in Leachate trash Consider health issues as refined in the green belts around cities as a liquid fertilizer recommended.
Abstract: In recent years, everything is trending toward digitalization
and with the rapid development of the Internet technologies,
digital media needs to be transmitted conveniently over the network.
Attacks, misuse or unauthorized access of information is of great
concern today which makes the protection of documents through
digital media a priority problem. This urges us to devise new data
hiding techniques to protect and secure the data of vital significance.
In this respect, steganography often comes to the fore as a tool for
hiding information. Steganography is a process that involves hiding
a message in an appropriate carrier like image or audio. It is of
Greek origin and means "covered or hidden writing". The goal of
steganography is covert communication. Here the carrier can be sent
to a receiver without any one except the authenticated receiver only
knows existence of the information. Considerable amount of work
has been carried out by different researchers on steganography. In this
work the authors propose a novel Steganographic method for hiding
information within the spatial domain of the gray scale image. The
proposed approach works by selecting the embedding pixels using
some mathematical function and then finds the 8 neighborhood of
the each selected pixel and map each bit of the secret message in
each of the neighbor pixel coordinate position in a specified manner.
Before embedding a checking has been done to find out whether the
selected pixel or its neighbor lies at the boundary of the image or not.
This solution is independent of the nature of the data to be hidden
and produces a stego image with minimum degradation.
Abstract: We propose a fast and robust hierarchical face detection system which finds and localizes face images with a cascade of classifiers. Three modules contribute to the efficiency of our detector. First, heterogeneous feature descriptors are exploited to enrich feature types and feature numbers for face representation. Second, a PSO-Adaboost algorithm is proposed to efficiently select discriminative features from a large pool of available features and reinforce them into the final ensemble classifier. Compared with the standard exhaustive Adaboost for feature selection, the new PSOAdaboost algorithm reduces the training time up to 20 times. Finally, a three-stage hierarchical classifier framework is developed for rapid background removal. In particular, candidate face regions are detected more quickly by using a large size window in the first stage. Nonlinear SVM classifiers are used instead of decision stump functions in the last stage to remove those remaining complex nonface patterns that can not be rejected in the previous two stages. Experimental results show our detector achieves superior performance on the CMU+MIT frontal face dataset.
Abstract: This paper presents a new data oriented model of image. Then a representation of it, ADBT, is introduced. The ability of ADBT is clustering, segmentation, measuring similarity of images etc, with desired precision and corresponding speed.
Abstract: Color constancy algorithms are generally based on the
simplified assumption about the spectral distribution or the reflection
attributes of the scene surface. However, in reality, these assumptions
are too restrictive. The methodology is proposed to extend existing
algorithm to applying color constancy locally to image patches rather
than globally to the entire images.
In this paper, a method based on low-level image features using
superpixels is proposed. Superpixel segmentation partition an image
into regions that are approximately uniform in size and shape. Instead
of using entire pixel set for estimating the illuminant, only superpixels
with the most valuable information are used. Based on large scale
experiments on real-world scenes, it can be derived that the estimation
is more accurate using superpixels than when using the entire image.
Abstract: The present paper proposes high performance nonlinear
force controllers for a servopneumatic real-time fatigue test
machine. A CompactRIO® controller was used, being fully
programmed using LabVIEW language. Fuzzy logic control
algorithms were evaluated to tune the integral and derivative
components in the development of hybrid controllers, namely a FLC
P and a hybrid FLC PID real-time-based controllers. Their
behaviours were described by using state diagrams. The main
contribution is to ensure a smooth transition between control states,
avoiding discrete transitions in controller outputs. Steady-state errors
lower than 1.5 N were reached, without retuning the controllers.
Good results were also obtained for sinusoidal tracking tasks from
1/¤Ç to 8/¤Ç Hz.
Abstract: In this paper, a modified CCCII is presented. We have used a current mirror with low supply voltage. This circuit is operated at low supply voltage of ±1V. Tspice simulations for TSMC 0.18μm CMOS Technology has shown that the current and voltage bandwidth are respectively 3.34GHz and 4.37GHz, and parasitic resistance at port X has a value of 169.320 for a control current of 120μA. In order to realize this circuit, we have implemented in this first step a universal current mode filter where the frequency can reach the 134.58MHz. In the second step, we have implemented two simulated inductors: one floating and the other grounded. These two inductors are operated in high frequency and variable depending on bias current I0. Finally, we have used the two last inductors respectively to implement two sinusoidal oscillators domains of frequencies respectively: [470MHz, 692MHz], and [358MHz, 572MHz] for bias currents I0 [80μA, 350μA].
Abstract: The present study was designed to test the influence
of intrinsic ICT-motivation, perceived usefulness and ease of use on
business students- willingness to use a particular software package. A
questionnaire was completed by 196 business students in Norway.
We found that 34% of the variance in the students- willingness to use
the software could be explained by the three proposed antecedents.
Intrinsic ICT-motivation seems to be the most important predictor of
students- satisfaction willingness to use the software package.
Abstract: In this paper we propose a novel approach for
searching eCommerce products using a mobile phone, illustrated by a
prototype eCoMobile. This approach aims to globalize the mobile
search by integrating the concept of user multilinguism into it. To
show that, we particularly deal with English and Arabic languages.
Indeed the mobile user can formulate his query on a commercial
product in either language (English/Arabic). The description of his
information need on commercial products relies on the ontology that
represents the conceptualization of the product catalogue knowledge
domain defined in both English and Arabic languages. A query
expressed on a mobile device client defines the concept that
corresponds to the name of the product followed by a set of pairs
(property, value) specifying the characteristics of the product. Once a
query is submitted it is then communicated to the server side which
analyses it and in its turn performs an http request to an eCommerce
application server (like Amazon). This latter responds by returning
an XML file representing a set of elements where each element
defines an item of the searched product with its specific
characteristics. The XML file is analyzed on the server side and then
items are displayed on the mobile device client along with its
relevant characteristics in the chosen language.
Abstract: In this study a clustering technique has been implemented which is K-Means like with hierarchical initial set (HKM). The goal of this study is to prove that clustering document sets do enhancement precision on information retrieval systems, since it was proved by Bellot & El-Beze on French language. A comparison is made between the traditional information retrieval system and the clustered one. Also the effect of increasing number of clusters on precision is studied. The indexing technique is Term Frequency * Inverse Document Frequency (TF * IDF). It has been found that the effect of Hierarchical K-Means Like clustering (HKM) with 3 clusters over 242 Arabic abstract documents from the Saudi Arabian National Computer Conference has significant results compared with traditional information retrieval system without clustering. Additionally it has been found that it is not necessary to increase the number of clusters to improve precision more.
